Thanks so much! Had my 2nd class earlier today and I knew something was off compared to how the others were doing it. Mistake number 2 was me. Awesome now I can practice proper shrimping and do better on the warm up next class.
It's been a long time since I grappled. A good video like this is great for re-learning or refining a pretty fundamental movement. Thank you for posting
Amazing video! I just started training BJJ an was having an awkward time with these an now I see the little mistakes I have been making. Thanks for the advice coach
I love me some fundamentals. Been off the mat for a while now, finding your vids really help my solo drills and keeps my head on the mat even if my body isn't. Any more apps planned with Rob Biernacki? His teaching style really clicks with me. Mucho Thanks For Your Hard Work
How much do I owe you for this info.😁 I went to my first bjj training three days ago and had no clue what I was doing and had 0 help at $150 a month. I am subscribing to your channel. Thanks Stephan!👍✌
Nothing wrong with the video. Great tips as always and I always tell my students to check out your stuff if they want solid videos on the basics. It's just my hate for the word "shrimping" for what I call a "hip escape" lol. Since in Portuguese they say: "fuga de quadril" which literally means, escaping the hips. People always say shrimping and I'm like, no! It's a hip escape not a shrimp! 🍤 There, got that off my chest 😁
Never heard it called fuga de quadril, always camarão both for training and when someone is giving advice while rolling. Hip escape (fuga de quadril) is used a lot in english, so I find it kinda weird it was named shrimping here, but not in portuguese.
Hey I'm trying to learn portuguese. It would be really useful if you made a list of the most common terms in bjj in portuguese - and their english translation!
Hi Stephan. A little doubt. When i roll with big guys and they are inside my guard, they usually cross choke me. That doesn't suppose to be, but they use brute force to grip and cross choke. They just grip and use arm strength to finish. What can I do to avoid that? how do i release force with my legs and hips?
Hi there, it sounds like you're keeping your guard closed? If so, you have two main options... open your guard and armbar them, or open your guard, shrimp away (using the movement in the video above) and get your feet on their hips. It'll be much harder for them to do that from within your open guard!
Is the first one really a common mistake? I can't really say that I have an extensive experience of grappling, I mainly train MMA. But whenever we have a grappling pass, and we shrimp as a warmup, I never see people shrimping on the wrong side. To me it just feels completely unnatural to do that, and quite hard actually. Great video though.
sitting on the toilet watching how to shrimp. your the man kesting
I hope you get off the toilet before practicing
Don't tell alex how to live his life. lol

Great video though.
I finally have about 10 hours into BJJ and doing my shrimping at home is why I'm watching this video, doubted I was doing it right.
Wow starting to click! Thank you
This nigga look like John Danaher's brother. John Danaher is the evil twin...great video tho
Never seen a shrimp move like that.
He forgot the 4th reason. I AM FREAKIN EXHAUSTED!!! lol
You realize he's disrespecting the belt by throwing it😐
Belts are a piece of cloth and don’t deserve respect.
It’s so humiliating.

I'll go kill myself now
Congrats! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
