Yes the videogame industry has a lot of empty statements put out by money grubbing companies, or just companies that want the most secure financial stay. However GF made some masterpieces with their previous installments and had a mostly solid track record.

Yeah, and this whole lying-about-Dexit thing comes on top of the release of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Those were billed as new adventures, but wound up being virtually the same as Sun and Moon.
Game Freak spent my good will with that, and has not earned it back with Sword and Shield. These are the first main line Pokemon games I'm not buying on release since Ruby and Sapphire. Going to wait and see how the games and situation develops over the coming months.

It's one thing to cut content from your IP's creations; no matter what people like me may want that's perfectly legal.It's quite another thing to consistently LIE about content within the product one is selling.
The case may or may not hold any water - I don't have enough knowledge about all the things GameFreak have said or about the law to even guess at how lying over what types of models a video game is using in a mere interview counts - but given the interview's nature as advertising I personally feel it was deceptive and in many places around the world deceptive business practices like lying during advertising can have legal repercussions.
I remember reading an interview back in 2017, before Let's Go was announced, that the Pokemon Company was looking to games like Breath of the Wild for inspiration. I don't remember the article exactly, but the developers were basically saying that moving to the Switch is gonna allow them to do all kinds of crazy stuff. But then Let's Go was announced and they had to clarify that no, these aren't the REAL games, you're gonna have to wait until 2019 for those. And now we're here and people seem to have forgotten about that interview I read two years ago. The actual developers said this! And people are acting like we were expecting too much because we were spoiled from BotW... And to make it worse, they couldn't even give us the same standard game we've been getting for years; instead this game literally has less content then the other versions! And don't even get me started on the Pokemon Home situation, witch is arguably more scummy and not as many people are talking about it.

Didn't read the article myself but I heard things like 'it's gonna be like botw' all over the internet back before they announced swsh. It's sad in hindsight reading comments of people stating their fears and others replying "don't worry, LGPE was just an appetizer, the true mainline games are going to be bigger than ever".

Graphically, “let’s go” is better than Pokémon SWSH. The 3D models might not be as “detailed” but the shading looks noticeably worse, and the Pokémon literally look and feel like they were taken straight out of the 3DS games and I played those A LOT so I KNOW those sprites. Gamefreak LIED

It feels weird being an adult now and having played each Pokémon gen as a kid before Sword and Shield and just now realizing that "Oh... this is where my experience with Pokémon ends." Because if the games truly don't improve and end up like this game from here on out, then Sun and Moon will be my last Pokémon experience. And that just.... disturbs me. It's like you said, it honestly feels like a break up or a divorce: part of my life is gone. However in this case I can still cherish all of the past generations. A lot of them still have plenty of replay-ability.

@@mattwolf7698 they can't really change anything at all, as new changes might make new bugs, plua they nees game testing, and the games gotta be printed, and sent to all over the world, the kids who kept that excuse up are clueless, sad to say a lot of adult kept hanging on that too.
Case in point for how future proofed the models were: Primarina has a higher polygon count than Mario does in Odyssey. Why make models that good for the tiny 3DS screen? They were clearly already good enough. So either they did remake the models for no reason at all, or they didn't and they lied.
Sun and Moon were so compressed to fit within the limitations of the hardware that the entire game suffered visually. It looked like a pixelated mess, especially compared to the gen 6 games. There's no doubt in my mind that those models were meant for the Switch. Which means that every Pokemon is already Switch ready. Which leads us to the simple, sad truth that we all need to acknowledge, because there's no denying it now.
They. Lied.
What's worse, the fact that dataminers have found models for supposedly cut Pokemon leads me to believe that there is a more nefarious reason for all of this: To sell them back to us at a later date as dlc. Seriously, what other possible reason could they have for lying to us so blatantly?

@Melon Sauce That doesn't mean there won't be a "Sword 2 and Shield 2" or a third game in the generation as they are very well known to do. I assume whatever the third game is or the remakes will have closer to the full roster of Pokemon so far.
@@BrigadierGinger Not DLC, but it's inevitable they will release an enhanced version next year and of course they will capitalize on having a complete dex(or just have the removed pokemon while removing the pokemon we currently have
People passing this off as “okay” or “no big deal” are complicit in lazy game design. Game Freak are a lazy, anti consumer developer and people need to stop supporting this kind of behaviour from game devs.
Actually if you compare the new Pokemon and their models you can see a difference to the old ones. The old ones are just standing there being stagnant except for the gen 1 pokemon because of let's go and the new ones the new ones like scorbunny are there hopping around actually doing something except standing there looking left and right every now and then

Yeet 69_420 lmao, the assets for Johto and up are kept server side. The only thing modders can use are the down-res’d versions from the 3ds, and even then, it requires so much time to properly code into the game without crashes, bugs and more. All the whole Nintendo would be hunting down everyone attempting to mess with their IP.

This is what got me. To my understanding, they already had future proofes models back during the 3ds games, but wanted to cut down on the dex to focus on better animations. But watching the gameplay I just dont see those better animations.

I really hope Nintendo doesn't blacklist Arlo or something like that- he's speaking the truth. I'm already mad at GameFreak, we don't need papa Nintendo to blunder as well.
There's a reviewer named vg247 who was given a review copy, and was the only one of 3 of the preliminary reviewers to review the game poorly. In his video about it, he even said to buy used, wait for a sale, or wait for the 3rd version.
Guess what happened? His video was taken down for some reason, and now it's re-uploaded with comments disabled. I know I'm probably just being a conspiracy theorist, but that seems a little strange to me. I hope this isn't some case of corporate douchebaggery.

I've said it before and I'll say it a thousand times more: GameFreak was not prepared for the jump to 3D, and they have been floundering ever since. It's unfortunate because this is their creation, the roots of GameFreak are really a rags-to-riches tale of a bunch of fans pulling together to start something amazing, but they have failed to keep up with expectations. Their creation has outgrown them, and let's face it: Other developers have done far more with this series than they have. I will keep pounding this drum, but Genius Sonority managed more impressive graphics and animations on the Wii, and if nothing else they should be given the chance to at least handle that part. If GameFreak wants to keep control over the mainline series, then they need to at least start outsourcing their weaker departments.
We've settled for mediocrity for years. It's just something we've gotten used to from GameFreak. But this is too much, too brazen and too underhanded. Not only did they release something incredibly subpar, they did so with a heaping load of dishonesty. They DID lie to us, and I sincerely hope that Nintendo drops the hammer on them because unfortunately, it needs to be done.
But its rather humorous. Pokémon Stadium was thing. It was 3D. The pokemon had animations unique to them and all of it started on simple N64. 252 pokemon in Stadium 2. All 3D battles and all of them had unique animations.
It's just a shit game just play something else pokemon is a shit game and it will always be shit.

The announcement of Sword and Shield got me so excited for my first true pokemon home console experience, so much so that I dedicated myself over the course of 3 months or so to collecting every single pokemon in preparation for the new games. I got so nostalgic going back through my old games collecting every pokemon each generation had to offer, even touching my copy of black 2 i picked up for the sake of having a game in that generation but dropped only to enjoy it my second time through. I had finished the Unova national dex and saw the glorious certificate and knew i was getting close, but as I started on X and Y the news that not all pokemon were making it to the switch dropped and i was devastated. All this work, all the memories, all the fun i had catching them all was going to stop at UltraSun and Moon. I was mad at first cause i knew what Gamefreak was capable of from the start, but as the excuses flew out and all the other issues pokemon was facing hit me like a truck, from then it just turned into disappointment knowing Gamefreak was taking a stand that would take pokemon into a direction I never really had to worry about from this series. Gamefreak is becoming just another gaming company except with a history of great games and dedicated fans to fall back on, and thats good enough for them. I was prepared to preorder and follow every piece of info coming out regarding pokemon, but til gamefreak makes some serious changes my adventure with the pokemon games ends at Ultrasun and moon. One of the best series i've had the pleasure to follow sad to go.

@@OmegaChase1002 Problem is they actually planned this DLC even before (read about Isle of Armor interviews). The DLC does seem better, but wonder if you agree that it should at least be in the main game even as a free update. Outside of the Pokemon the areas also seem lacking. I will say though that the free updates with Pokemon may be a response to uproar, but still has a long way to go.
Here is the central problem of the Pokemon series: Pokemon's core gameplay loop is gold. Catching and battling monsters. The battle system is as complex or simple as you want it to be. The roster of Pokemon's diversity and the hidden mechanics behind each creature guarantee variety and enhance replayability. The social features increase longevity and open up real-world possibilities. What this all means is that Pokemon is a series with a really solid foundation. When you have such a solid foundation, an iterative approach to improvement in each installment is best. You have such a good base that you can just slowly make small improvements over time (e.g., adding abilities in Gen 3, phys/spec split in Gen 4, Mega evolutions, Z-moves). But instead of building the foundation stronger with each iteration, GameFreak adds some bricks to it and removes others. This is the source of stagnation. To improve, you either have to make radical changes to the foundation (e.g., Breath of the Wild) or slowly but continuously build on the foundation. GameFreak's problem is that it take neither approach, instead leaving the foundation largely the same but removing as much as they add each time, leaving improvements at a net zero.
This is exactly what's wrong with the series and why it's so sad that it's happening. Pokemon games have great potential but they're just not living up to it.
I wouldn't say megas and Z-moves are foundational improvements.
@@Paddy656 If you consider the battle system part of the foundation, they are enough of a change to the system to qualify I think. As far as how they impact strategy and battle tactics, they are in a similar league with Abilities and the Phys/Spec Split. Now whether you consider them improvements vs negatives is another question. But at least they were additions, not subtractions
This exact same trend happens with CoD. Features like theater mode, zombies, spec ops, heat maps, etc. are rotated around and shuffled from entry to entry.
@@z4nizzle I just think slapping on digivolving and super-moves on top of the battle system doesn't really count. Things like abilities were very base-level and affected the entire battling system and were things you had to constantly account for. Megas and Z-moves are much more situational and affect the battle system from the top-down.
They deserve the criticism and people need to wake up and realize not everyone who is disappointed by SWSH is entitled. Now SOME fans HAVE gone way too far and said disgusting things to developers and even gave death threats, and that kind of behavior isn't okay no matter what side you're on. Still, I'm sick of people saying we're babies for looking at a product and going "no this looks unpolished and broken" and making fun of us instead. We don't do this shit for movie criticism NEARLY as much, I wonder what makes Pokemon different?
This. Sadly, Pokemon is a franchise that is famous for the age of the fanbase and it correlates with their strong feelings of protectionist behavior towards the games. Sadly, blind following and not seeing it as what it is (a product from a grown up company that cares about grown up money) is exactly what is destroying the franchise.

Arlo already addressed this defense in his last video. They aren't Nintendo, but Nintendo is a major shareholder in The Pokemon Company and Pokemon originated as a Nintendo franchise first and foremost. On top of that, it still is the single highest earning media franchise of all time. Nintendo or not, the company has the time and money to polish its games and evidence shows that they just didn't feel like doing it.

So, the issue here is that it IS illegal for companies to produce false PR (unless it is puffery) but this falls under tort law, not criminal law, which means a customer or customer group has to sue the company for it to matter at all. And markets are so large now that boycotts are ultimately a drop in the bucket for games companies, so they have no real power to affect change.

You forget that most of the OG fans of the game have families of their own now since they're in their mid 20's- early 30's. If the parents want to boycott them then that also means their kids won't get copies of the game too, not including the possibility of them buying both copies of the game. So instead of it just being one fan not buying, it's families where 4 or more sales are lost.

Domestic laws apply to international companies doing business in other nations. Additionally, false advertising laws in Japan are actually more strict than those in the United States.
Also, again, they can count on making more than enough money independent of a boycott, because purchasing markets are so large now. Lawsuits are the only credible way to enforce consumer protection laws, and are not frivolous, at least in the United States.
So apparently GF didn't even let their consumers in Japan know about the Dex cuts and they're just learning about it through secondhand/english trailers.. Also another rumor is that the reason there were cuts in the first place was because of an animation importer (or code importer?) they used to transfer the 3ds models to Switch broke down... in order to save face they created the narrative that they wanted to focus on "better animations". All hearsay but its just....it lines up too well.. it hurts..

Based on the datamined wireframes, it looks like a perfect 1-to-1 between Sword and Shield and the 3DS versions. Which means they successfully imported the models over because otherwise there would be at least some minor differences between the 2 if they built it from scratch. I think it's very unlikely that this "importer" only worked for _some_ of the models, not to mention that they supposedly "future proofed" their models, which means they would've saved the source files for easy import in future games.

The last GF I wanted to break my heart was Gamefreak, and for the first time I'm hesitant to buy a Pokemon game. As someone who tolerated the missteps of the last 2 gens this is just becoming ridiculous now. If Gamefreak wants to work on their own original stuff then fine, but it should not be at the expense of Pokemon. This franchise has too much fan respect to become cookie cutter copy & paste quality, and as far as I see it (lie or not) this is a huge stain that threatens to become just that. I'd rather have Pokemon die on its feet doing what it does best rather than walk on its knees to meet corporate trash standards. If this has to be the generation I skip in hopes of a better out come for the future (not that it will make a huge difference in the end) then so be it.

People would forgive the National Dex cut if they improved any of these: Graphics, Storyline, High quality animations, Post Game, Expanding the Wild Area ect. Any of these getting better treatment and more development time would make up for it. It's the fact people can not see where that extra Dev time went into in the game added on to the Dex cut controversy. The fact we have to focus on one is bad a Switch game in 2019 should have all of these or at least multiple of the features I listed. The Switch is not a bad or outdated console either it is just proof the Game Freak team is not ready for a full HD 3D Pokemon adventure.

Pokemon is starting to feel like the NBA and Madden games more and more every year. Just pumping out some low quality, low effort yearly installments that are worse than previous installments.
I remember this one NBA game on the PS2. NBA Streets Vol. 2 or something like that. Even though I don't like sports or sports games, that NBA PS2 game was soo much fun. I loved that game, played it a ton with my cousins. And then I look at the newest installment, and it's so buggy and sloppy looking. I'd rather play NBA on Sega Genesis, that was a good basketball game. And when NBA 2K19 looks worse and less fun than NBA on Sega Genesis, that's when you know two things. 1, you messed up, and 2 that NBA on Genesis is a good video game.

In any other industry, lying about products like this would be literally false advertising and completely illegal, but because it's the game industry no one seems to care and they get away with it ALL THE TIME. If the War Z was able to use literal false advertising in previews, interviews, and even their actual game store page on Steam, as well as all the other crap they pulled, apparently game companies can do whatever they want, legally.
Don't almost all advertisements involve lies. Their product doesn't do what they claim it does like mouth water, or their products don't look as good as they claim it does like fast food, or their products just aren't what they claim it is like vanilla yogurt. That just tastes like yogurt with lots of sugar
Unfortunately there's a legal gray area, it seems, between lies and slight exaggerations. How something looks doesn't seem to be anything the law cares much about, whereas if it doesn't actually contain what it says it contains, that's false advertising because it's something that's specifically stated that it doesn't actually have. You can't really argue taste for something either, as taste is pretty subjective. One person can taste something that another person can entirely miss in a flavor. Then there's the fact that most advertisements that 'exaggerate' their products have some kind of disclaimer saying it's not an actual depiction or something. Sad that that legally works, but that's the way it is I guess.
Not to mention there doesn't seem to be anything that is ever done about false advertising unless someone actually takes a company to court over it and, sadly, most people that end up involved in the consumer side of these things isn't going to actually sue the company because of the costs and time involved, so nothing ever happens.
_Galaxia_ so some of those things are kinda grey areas. Things that are qualitative like how it tastes or looks (in terms of “goodness”) can’t really ever be prosecuted because they’re qualitative. There’s no definitive answer to how “good” vanilla tastes so it’s not possible to say they actually lied. Even with things like it not doing exactly what they said, often at least with things like prescription drugs they’ll use the sharpshooter fallacy to zoom in on statistically significant differences that a product causes that don’t stand up to repeated study, because actually they’re just random variations (in science you accept a result of its more than 95% probably given your model, so if you test it on 20 different things statistically 1 of those should show a significant change). At this point it’s easy to make it a he said she said, with the company claiming that the other study was wrong and the original was right (even if they know it’s BS).
Factual claims about what a company is actually doing may be different though. Those are extremely easy to audit and prove, you can look at what a company was working on and see if they weren’t redoing models, so I feel like that wouldn’t be a difficult thing to prosecute. It depends on Japanese laws about advertising though, since they’re primarily a Japanese company. Idk, it’s all very complicated, but there is something different about the cases you’ve brought up than there is about the factual claims a video gaming company puts out regarding what they have or haven’t done in development

ive heard that an interview with a gamefreak employee came out talking about the bad atmosphere at the company and how the employees are all overworked and theres no passion and their programming methods havent changed much since the 90s and stuff like that, i think the real issue here is the annual tight release dates which made it so they had to cut corners or else someone mightve dropped dead on the clock. idk if its entirely true or not, but it would absolutely make sense. what we should be doing is encouraging gamefreak to take a good long break, hire some new blood, and clean stuff up. get some hot new programming tips from big brother nintendo maybe.

Japan has gotten away pretty Scott free in the crunch crisis, when they have arguably some of the worst crunch culture in the industry (simply am assumption because that culture is *everywhere* in East Asian countries)
Crunch has been going around as a very important subject this year, some studio's have really made their programmers and devs lives hell to get products done on time despite the cost to personel's health of body and mind. i don't know about others but i'd be fine waiting longer on sword and shield being made into a full game of quality then a shat out quick and rushed mess that was made by people that no longer have passion and just get put to work like slaves.
Reminds me of Assassin's Creed. They made some great games, but like all 2000 people eventually got burned out and they ended up taking a bunch of years off, now the games are sick again.
X, and Y's assets where future proofed, and they act as if that never happened it seems they're making any excuse to dance around that, but now its proven fact they're reusing assets.
Either they have been put on a heavy deadline to release the game before holiday season for a hefty quarterly earnings report for investors, or this is a sign they are watering down the series going forward to make it a yearly franchise which is Justin gross.
In definitely currently in the park of it being an investors thing. Some of these are the people who made the first Pokemon, and all the love behind it. I expect that they still care about their franchise, and are just doing what they can. They do need to learn to use their resources more efficiently however, (Terrible PR, having the models show up in every map instead of calling on a single copy, etc.) also we already knew 1 that the model thing was mistranslated (there is a link to a proper translation around here somewhere) and anyone who knows gaming stuff knows that its typically the textures and stuff like that that end up being more space-intensive than the models themselves, which I believe they did make new for the game (might need a fact check) so the models weren't a space thing either

The lie, to me, is icing on the cake. I'm really upset over the fact that they're going against the core values they've established in the Pokémon series so far. Removing Mega Evolution and Z Moves sets a dangerous precedent. What if they removed Pokémon abilities because they think it's too complicated for new players to handle? All of that work on Dynamax could have been on improvements that fans have wanted for years. They don't just ignore fans, they blatantly lie to and insult them.

But it’s turned it into a combination that makes me hate them. If this is what the future holds for the franchise in the franchise needs to crash and burn. And I still have my copy of blue. People that have been playing the games in some cases as long as they have been making them. It’s a sense of betrayal. Especially for the older fans who have been with them since the start and have gone through every generation. And that’s where the anger comes from.

I don't know if Masuda knowingly lied, if he misunderstood or was told false information, or if something got lost in translation. But it's been painfully obvious from the get-go that it had nothing to do with the models and animation. If they had come out and said "Sorry, Masuda misspoke. What he really meant was X." things would've worked a lot better. If they'd just been honest and transparent, it wouldn't have led to such a loss of trust, even if we all still hated the change. But "transparent" isn't in their vocab, apparently. I don't know who is on their PR team but they really, really failed miserably.
I would lay my whole paycheck on the real reason behind this being TIME. You cannot release on an annual schedule and maintain quality. You just can't. Roster bloat is a real problem, and probably the immediate reason why the Dex got culled. It would've needed to be dealt with eventually. But the annual schedule exacerbates it so much. The reason XY's story and ORAS's Delta Episode left so many threads just hanging? Time. The reason USUM was just glorified DLC instead of a proper part 2? Time. Just about every problem Pokemon has suffered since the beginning of gen 6 boils down to a lack of time. Gen 6 was when the hard and fast schedule started.

Yeah basically, I also believe that its less their personal work ethic about the game and just the business side, they are expected to pump one out every year, which just isn't feasible in a realistic standard. Also their less than stellar coding practices aren't helping them. (Having a bunch of the same model across all the maps instead of 1 that is moved around for example)
The problem with that argument is that they DID have time to add the entire roster. PLENTY of time! Because Sun and Moon's models were made specifically for this very reason! Primarina alone has more polygons than Mario does in Odyssey. The whole point of remaking the models for S/M was to future-proof them so they wouldn't run into that problen on future Switch titles. Sun and Moon were basically Switch games that they just compressed to fit on the 3DS. That's why they looked like such hot garbage compared to X/Y and ORAS.

None of the Switch games are made with amazing graphics in mind, but the big titles on the Switch all have an incredible attention to detail and it is easy to tell how much effort was put into them. Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and Smash Ultimate are all great examples of games that Nintendo has put excruciatingly hard work into and it shows because these games have all been massive successes. Game Freak however, is content to put out a game that is, to put it bluntly, mediocre. It's the same old story of a 10 year old using the power of friendship and the legendary Pokémon to take down the crazy evil bad guy. On top of that, GF has become obsessed with adding new gimmicks and Sword & Shield are no exception with Dynamax and Gigantamax. It's crazy because this will be the first time that I've skipped a Pokémon main series game ever. I've played the series since I was 5 years old and started out with Ruby and now I think my time with this series may be over.

Becuse town and SWSH had to have started around the same time with a staff of less than 200 over all employees all of that work and having to make a yearly deadline for some stupid reson is what is killing the series Gamefrek needs to take a break and there time don't release a game for the next few years to make. @@mm-rw3hi Um, no. They've been working on SwSh probably as soon as USUM was released, if not even before. They claim the Let's Go series are going to be mainline games, running alongside the regular games. But pretty much everyone saw LG for what it was: a stop-gap to appease the investors and make money while buying themselves time for SwSh.
Annual release schedules are not sustainable or healthy for any game development studio. Much less for a group as small as Game Freak working on a series as huge as Pokemon. Either they take a lesson from Grandpa Nintendo and learn to tell the money-grubbers to piss off, or greed is going to kill them.
Unfortunately issues like this are common for numerous AAA franchises.

What did everyone think that the models were different in the first trailer when the Pokemon looked exactly the same as before? We don't need a wire frame version to see that they are the same. It has been obvious since the first trailer that had some gameplay with the Pokemon looking exactly the same.
I really don't care about the reuse of models, the models are good, some could do with better color palettes (expecially shiny Pokemon), but the models look good. However, when the animation for double kick is the Pokemon slightly jumping (with without moving) and a picture of a foot hits the opponent, that's stupid.

Many people defend Gamefreak because they don't even know how 3D models work. Even after this people will still say the models were ''remade identically'' and that's why they couldn't ''remake'' every pokemon.
What’s wrong about it is that Gamefreak EXPLICITLY said that they needed to recreate the 3d assets from the ground up due to some kind of import error. This is hard evidence that Gamefreak lied.
The problem is a bunch of blind people decided to believe game freak when they said they had to remake the models in an interview and built an entire story about why game freak couldn’t when they never said anything other than claiming to remake the models. Even though anybody knows how it would be nearly impossible to remake every single model identically to how they were before. The problem is game freak lied and unnecessarily cut pokemon.
Even the crappy animation could be forgivable had they not cut the Dex by over half, say it's for demonstrably false technological reasons and then try and gaslight fans with some assinine "Maybe your Pokemon doesn't like the weather in this game" excuse so they can still trick people into trapping their Pokemon in a dead end glorified PC box.

I was so excited, I legitimately thought this was going to be the best game in the series. Then I found out that this was happening. And that the story was unconvincing. And I realized it’s $20 more. If the cycle holds, the anime is going to be really good this gen.

Sadly for everyone thinking adding the national Dex will fix SW & SH... it won't. The game is garbage. There are a few, A FEW, good features. But they all fail to reach the full potential they could. The wild area, camping, etc. They all feel like there was more to be gotten out of those features. The worst thing, EVEN OVER HAU 2.0 (i.e. Hop), is the layout of the game. Super short routes, NO dungeons, sorry but the two caves and forests are just routes, that's all. The evil team HQ is literally just an elevator ride with a couple stops for battles. The towns are literally barren of anything to do. Just walk in and beat the gym (probably fight Hop before and after plus three to four drawn out generic story beats) and then walk away. The national Dex won't fix this game. It suffers from a fundamentally lazy design. This game is BARE BONES. The game boy advance era games and even GSC had more content and more to do than SW & SH. The national Dex WILL NOT fix this game. This is a game with deeper flaws. And that is a sad thought. I've played this series since RBY, and this hurts to say, but I do not like this game. I love Pokemon, and I love Gamefreak for giving me, like 25 years of great games (mostly). A quarter century, most of my life, Pokemon has been a part of it. It's my childhood in a cartridge, and I love this franchise, maybe more than any other. So it feels wrong to say this, but SW & SH is just... well... its just a bad game. And there is no easy fix for SW & SH.
I pretty much agree with everything you said. I've kind of felt like Pokemon was on the decline since Black and White - and I am sad to say that Sword/Shield has lead me to the realization I may not be a Pokemon fan anymore. I bought both (Sucker for Steelbooks) and...Like I played Sword and haven't bothered with Shield. I did the 25 min of post games and then it was just....doing raids? Super boring repetitive raids? I haven't touched the games in months at this point. I've actually wanted DLC for Pokemon for a while and...I'm not going to get it. The base games were just not good enough for me to want to spend more money on the games when I have so much more I could do. SW/Sh should have been a blow out of all things Pokemon and instead they were a meager stripped down...nothing.
But alas the game sold like gangbusters, and won a ton of awards against more worthy opponents and is a poster child for "Even bad press is good press" so I don't expect much from Pokemon in the future. We'll see what the next installment holds, but it's not something I'm going to be waiting with bated breath for.

for once I'm actually glad that we don't have DP remakes, I'd like to see some actual effort put into those.

I really appreciate that you understand the biggest thing wrong here: Game Freak LIED. The Dex thing was never the true focus. It's the fact that GF harped on about cutting the Dex to "achieve" this or that, and everything else under the sun, and just make an overall better experience. Judging by all the damning evidence that has since been shown by GF themselves, that has leaked, and even revealed by reviewers, it's obvious that they lied about most, if not all, of it. THAT is the problem: THE LIE. Had they not lied, I bet the backlash wouldn't have been as bad as it is.
And a lot of people like to throw the "entitled gamer" card, as if these billion-dollar corporations don't deserve criticism. So many people have zero problems shitting on Activision, Bethesda, and EA for very similar shortcomings and we don't hear so much as a peep from anyone. Why? Because they know these greedy corporations are lying through their teeth. Guess what, TPC hold a franchise that is worth more than anything those other companies have and they can be just as greedy.

All the Pokemon behave the same or in similar ways but games like Pokemon Battle Revolution are good examples of what 3D Pokemon should look like, sure the models may not have looked the best but they had SOMETHING to look at despite that
My biggest problem with these games isn't the cut Pokemon or even the re-used models. New things can still be done with both of those aspects. The games can still be fantastic with those limitations.
But It's the lack of courage and creativity that really annoys me. Every other game series has made leaps and bounds where Pokemon stood still.
Take a revolutionary new step like Mario Sunshine to Galaxy or Skyward Sword to BOTW.
Time-based battles, position-based strategy, usage of the terrain, aiming attacks, I don't care, just make something new and fresh and I'll be interested.

I got the game already and I can tell you, you are spot on. I started with Black White, then XY, Then ORAS, then Sun/Moon and I can tell you Sword and Shield is the exact same shit. They haven't changed or evolved at all in 20 years. I'm mad they got rid of Mega Evolution and just added "Gigantamax" then next game they probably call it something else. What's the point if this only lasts for one game and you never see it again????
Exactly, the series that talk the most about evolution is the only one that never evolves. I still dont understand why we need a transiction to battle for each pokemon battle. The scale of the game is not representative anymore, the world has a huge normal size, so why not only throw the pokemon on the environment and start the battle for example? With a quick camera movement you update the way combat happens in the series, and you dont have a lot of problems of arena scenarios not matching the scenario you actually are, and start a combat is a lot less boring cause you dont need to watch transitions to battle mode all the time... Jesus christ they are too fucking slow.

Yep. Dex cuts with BS excuses, possibly lies, the general lack of quality the leaks have shown.. I just can't give them my money and support this behavior. Make better games or I won't buy them anymore. At first when I saw Sword and Shield I was excited.
Then all the negativity that started spreading around caused me to gradually lose interest.
I didn’t even care about part of the dex being cut at first.
And now this. This hurts me as a Pokémon fan, they just need to spend more time on their games and not lie to us about why they’re cutting Pokémon out of the game.
Edit: In my opinion, I believe that GameFreak should spend more time on developing their games. We get Pokémon games yearly, and they usually have quite a few problems. I would much rather wait 3 years for a new game that I can be excited for, than 1 year for a game that could be incredibly disappointing and cause outrage in the community.
This mentality is essentially the exact reason why they did it. That people would just blindly buy it no matter what they did, but a little to many leaks came out
