best way is to apply a little heat using a hairdryer, then get a length of dental floss and pull each badge off by working the floss behind each one. After this, simply use tar spot remover on the adhesive, then buff off and polish, worked a charm for me, and cost very little.
I used water, dental floss, heat gun, and WD-40. Steps: Poured water Heated the emblem Used floss to wedge it out Used WD40 to get off super sticky residue Took 2 mins and 0 damage on my 2012 Black Accord
Thanks for the tutorial. Just de-badged my vehicle. Used cheap $9.00 hair dryer from walmart, fishing line, face mask, clean cloths and 3M general purpose adhesive cleaner as said in your video. Was able to pick up all supplies in Walmart which made it that much easier. Took 40 minutes to take off 1 sticker, two emblems, and 2 plastic pieces from the side of my motorcycle. Guess since the bike was so new, the adhesive left just rolled off. Used only a dab of 3M to clean up area. THANK YOU!!
i just used fishing line to remove the logo and then soaked the area with goo gone, let it set in, used a paint scraper to chisel off the glue, then rubbed the remained stuff of with a towel and goo gone. it looks clean and really turned out nice, just like your method
Thanks RTL !! I was done in about 15 min. It worked great. I used WD-40 instead of the 3m cleaner just because I already had it at the house. Just a little soap & water after and I'm good to go. Cheers !!
I noticed you had Goo Gone and was wondering where, when and if it was used. Great video, it's cool that so many projects on a vehicle use fishing line.
Sand paper really helps get the adhesive off. You have to move it in circular motion & push deep. I got great results and complements every day :) thank me later!
Thanks for the video, worked great. My truck is new so I didn't need to use any heat. The fishing line and adhesive remover worked perfect. The process only cost me $2.50, for the fishing line. I already had some Goo Gone so I used that.
Watched your video -- a couple comments. Heat gun on low, remove the lettering. Then before any adhesive remover, use the heat gun again to soften the foam that holds the lettering on. Use your thumb to roll up the foam and remove 90% of it while soft. Now soak the remnants in adhesive remover.... let it work and re-wet it again.... then take a square edge non metal tool (I used a small printed circuit board, but a credit card plastic would be best) and gently work away the last 10% of the foam.
Very Nice video! I see lots of these with boring people who can't speak in front of the cam, doesn't seem to be a problem you have ;) I'll try it tonight
Thanks for the video. My truck is kinda new so I didn't even have to use my wife's dryer, I was able to just use the fishing line to remove the badging. The adhesive come off with some Goo Gone that I already had. I only spent $2.50 on the fishing line. Thanks for your help.
I have a quick question, hope you can help. I want to repaint my badges black, but painting them while on the car creates drips and smudges. I know how to take them off now, is there an easy way to get them back on? Any specific adhesives I could use?
It just so happens while rebuilding a 2G Mitsubishi Eclipse I 'accidentally' removed all the badges while replacing body parts. Not sure whether I ought to get replacements or let it be 'incognito'. What you think?
Dont know where in the world you are but here in the uk you could use some Autoglym SRP which is like a slightly abrasive polish, rub some on using abit of elbow grease, then buff off using a soft cloth, or could try WD-40 (spray can oil) again if your not in the uk you might not know what the above products are, could use something similar though
in the beginning of the video you showed 'goo be gone' can you strictly use that? I'm doing my mazda and don't have a heat gun so I'm using all kinds of alternatives lol
i found this video somewhat useful but not exactly what i was looking for. see, i have a 1999 chevy silverado 1500 and the badge i would look to remove is the CHEVROLET written across the tailgate as well as the dealer's mark. both are held on with adhesives. it looks more like a sticker than an emblem though so i was wondering if the same technique would work
Do not use a heat gun, fishing line will do the job and you can peal the 3m off without using any heavy chemicals. When you're done wax it really good in that spot and you're good to go. This is a good video if you have access to a heat gun and heavy chemicals and want to use them on your paint. Just wanted to throw my two cents in for another option.
I have a 2008 Ram Hemi and it doesn't have 1500, it just has RAM, and I was wanting to get fender flares and move the HEMI badge underneath the RAM badge. How would I go about that?
General practice that all should know: If you use ANY mineral spirits or thinners whatsoever, make sure to lay out the soaked rags on a drying rack outside! Ever heard of spontaneous combustion; well, that'll happen if you don't
wayyyyy too much effort on this, I just finished doing it on my Subaru and took like 20 minutes and it looks mint...... i used a hair dryer on the letters for like 15-20 seconds, used fishing line and as close to the LETTERS as possible, once the letters were off just pick a corner of the letter from the adhesive and roll it off following the letter.. once your done spray with goo gone let sit for a few and wash it off, voila!
@MTLKEBEK dude, no way, I have a 2007 ford ranger sport 4x2, and are your emblems just above the "ranger" tag? Mine look like they have two screws in them, but they are just adhesive, I'm removing mine in the summer using this method.
OK, Ive tried Goo Gone and a heat gun on my boat, decals warm up and come off quite easy... the adhesive residue is another story. Hope the 3m remover works better than the goo gone!!! trying it tomorrow.
I try with goo gone because Im too cheap to buy another can of residue remover. It does work, but goo gone takes a while to soak in to the adhesive plus it doesnt soak well with thick adhesive so you will need to trim a little bit before applying goo gone again
Michael Ropchak agreed goo gone didnt work worth shit for me ..and also stripped the finish off ...now i need to wax the shit out of the areas i used it on ...get 3m people
Cool, I've been needing to do this for a while, I got too many people wanting me to race me in my WRX Wagon. So, I need to get the "WRX" emblem removed real soon.
Great Vid! I have a question though, If I wanted to remove the emblems with this process then re-apply the emblems to my truck how would I do that? I was planning on painting my emblems then reattaching them, so what supplies would you recommend to make sure they stick on as good as the factory adhesive?
thanks to your video now I can take the emblems off my 06 nissan altima. would this process also work on dealership patch/sticker too? and what kind of soap?
Having done this on my own cars over the years I can say the following...DONT use a heatgun... Some boiling water will do just as well if not better and won't mess your paint. Once hot... Put some petrol on with a cloth... Let us soak a few mins...some more hot water... Get the badge off by peeling...don't need sharp tools... Once off...remove the excess adhesive using hot water and then attack again with the petrol...done in 30mins... Tools needed...1) quarter a cup of petroll...2) kettle 3)cloth and some patience. Once you have it all removed.... Go over with a little polish....then wash your whole car as normal and appy some wax or what not... Done.
iiownswagg nah bro...just some straight petrol... As you don't really have it in contact with the paint for long...it doesn't damage it at all... Easy job..especially on a warm day! :)
You kidding me? i just de-badged my BMW 1 Series using dental floss and a cup of microwaved water, and it went out clean as dandelion heads, this is just ridiculous
My vehicle is an 04, wouldn't the paint under the emblem have a fresher color sinse the rest of the car has been kinda faded by the sun? My suv is black if that makes a difference.
This vehicle i bought recently, it was from florida ,which is why i was concerned about the difference in color. Looks well taken care of but i wont kno for sure till i debadge it i guess . Just didnt want a darker spot where the badges were.
Theres a quicker way to remove the left over adhesive, use a caramel wheel it takes off the double sided tape but does not damage the paint!! I use that method all the time andcive been in the Body repair trade for over 20 years now!

I used water, dental floss, heat gun, and WD-40.

Poured water
Heated the emblem
Used floss to wedge it out
Used WD40 to get off super sticky residue
Took 2 mins and 0 damage on my 2012 Black Accord
Thanks for the tip bud, I'll try this today.
Oh, so WD40 works well for the residue?
nice one WD40 on my fucking chips mate
I think you should keep the badge and remove the truck is it the same process ?
hahahahaha
leeeel
Noice!
i would keep both seperetly
I think so. I think it's more difficult.
Thanks for the tutorial. Just de-badged my vehicle. Used cheap $9.00 hair dryer from walmart, fishing line, face mask, clean cloths and 3M general purpose adhesive cleaner as said in your video. Use olive oil to remove adhesive. Cheaper, non-toxic and you can use it to cook...
Thank you that actually worked!
Make sure to wax any surface that was contacted by the adhesive remover. Should have been mentioned in the video...
It was
i just used fishing line to remove the logo and then soaked the area with goo gone, let it set in, used a paint scraper to chisel off the glue, then rubbed the remained stuff of with a towel and goo gone. it looks clean and really turned out nice, just like your method
Good video and excellent directions (especially the safety tips). Well done, sir.
What's up cousin! Lmao.
One of the best "how to" garage videos ever.
Thanks RTL !! I was done in about 15 min. It worked great. I used WD-40 instead of the 3m cleaner just because I already had it at the house. Just a little soap & water after and I'm good to go. Cheers !!

Sand paper really helps get the adhesive off. You have to move it in circular motion & push deep. I got great results and complements every day :) thank me later!
didnt work but i can now see thru my panel like a real trucker
+DrankSippaTxx thank you it really showed me the true colors to my car
yeah sand your paint off. great idea
Informative video. Liked your presentation - laidback, non-condescending, and patient.
Paint stripper really helps on left over adhesive
Just did it to my 2010 Chevy Silverado today, worked like a charm. I appreciate it.
Thanks for the video, worked great. My truck is new so I didn't need to use any heat. The fishing line and adhesive remover worked perfect. The process only cost me $2.50, for the fishing line. I already had some Goo Gone so I used that.

I should’ve watched this before I took a knife to it
Thank you ! Doing this on my Golf MK3 in the morning!!
Thanks for the video. My truck is kinda new so I didn't even have to use my wife's dryer, I was able to just use the fishing line to remove the badging. The adhesive come off with some Goo Gone that I already had. I only spent $2.50 on the fishing line. Thanks for your help.
Will there be shadowing left behind in the paint where the badges were?
Is there a go to adhesive for re-badging a vehicle if needed with the same ones? That adhesive is jacked
What gear ratio is your truck running with those tires?
i saw goo gone in the start of the video can I use that as a replacement for the adhesive remover??
Your videos are very carefully done and precise, no "half-ass" jobs, subscribed :)
@ajg366 Both were used during the staging of this video, 3m adhesive required less elbow grease. Thanks for the response
I have a 2007 Chevy Tahoe and I wanting to remove the rear bowtie. How do I know if it is held on by adhesive?
Does this work on the hood emblem on the plastic chrome grille?
Initially the how to request was to use goo gone. It however did not break down the adhesive as well as the 3m material.
nice video, thanks! I see "Goo Gone" in the reflection of the truck's paint hehe!
@davidtorres813 can you see a difference in the paint? i have a 97 too and i want to do this but i dont want the outline of the letters to show.
I have a 2002 ram 1500,how much will the paint color differnce show ? Mine is also red
I have a quick question, hope you can help. I want to repaint my badges black, but painting them while on the car creates drips and smudges. I know how to take them off now, is there an easy way to get them back on? Any specific adhesives I could use?
gracias por el consejo, me fue de mucha ayuda.
desde GUATEMALA un saludo y gracias.
does the heat gun damage the paint, and if not, what is the time allowed before it does
Quick question. I want to remove a badge from a BMW 535i at a junk yard and stick it onto mine. What glue/adhesive would you reccomend
Engine De-creaser works well on any surface and removes any type of blue residue
It just so happens while rebuilding a 2G Mitsubishi Eclipse I 'accidentally' removed all the badges while replacing body parts. Not sure whether I ought to get replacements or let it be 'incognito'. What you think?
Definitely going to do this to my new Duramax soon. Thanks for the video, been wondering how this is done for months now.
@Downsey284 since he said to leave the heat gun on low, a hair drier on the hot setting should be close enough.
i used a box cutter and muscle. I got em off but there is a lil glue residue left and it ticks me off.
I used a blow dryer, fishing line, and goo gone. Worked great.
what are the guages you have on the a pillar?
what do you do if you can still see the logo in the paint where the sun faded it
Dont know where in the world you are but here in the uk you could use some Autoglym SRP which is like a slightly abrasive polish, rub some on using abit of elbow grease, then buff off using a soft cloth, or could try WD-40 (spray can oil) again if your not in the uk you might not know what the above products are, could use something similar though

Hairdryer, Catgut and a finger. did the whole 5 letters in about 10 mins. Nice and easy as long as you stick to one letter at a time!
anyone know of a good place to find out if any given vehicle, by make and model, has adhesive on the main emblem or if it will have the holes?
Do not use a heat gun, fishing line will do the job and you can peal the 3m off without using any heavy chemicals. When you're done wax it really good in that spot and you're good to go. This is a good video if you have access to a heat gun and heavy chemicals and want to use them on your paint. Just wanted to throw my two cents in for another option.
Okay so my A On my titan fell off my truck when I was washing it. How can I make it stick back on? And there was no adhesive on my truck
I have a 2008 Ram Hemi and it doesn't have 1500, it just has RAM, and I was wanting to get fender flares and move the HEMI badge underneath the RAM badge. How would I go about that?
is that the same for the deck lid?
General practice that all should know: If you use ANY mineral spirits or thinners whatsoever, make sure to lay out the soaked rags on a drying rack outside! Ever heard of spontaneous combustion; well, that'll happen if you don't
oh 2009 how i missed you.
that default text lmao
wayyyyy too much effort on this, I just finished doing it on my Subaru and took like 20 minutes and it looks mint...... i used a hair dryer on the letters for like 15-20 seconds, used fishing line and as close to the LETTERS as possible, once the letters were off just pick a corner of the letter from the adhesive and roll it off following the letter.. once your done spray with goo gone let sit for a few and wash it off, voila!

Good video, thanks. But isn't that a "forward slash" in the rtl web address?
I just got a 1994 Acura Integra, I'm kinda scared to do this myself. Can you get this professionally done?
OK, Ive tried Goo Gone and a heat gun on my boat, decals warm up and come off quite easy... the adhesive residue is another story. Hope the 3m remover works better than the goo gone!!! trying it tomorrow.

what if i want to take the badge off paint it and put it back on? what glue do i use?
so you use adhesive to romove the gum and after its gone use goo gone?
Great Vid! I have a question though, If I wanted to remove the emblems with this process then re-apply the emblems to my truck how would I do that? thanks to your video now I can take the emblems off my 06 nissan altima. would this process also work on dealership patch/sticker too? and what kind of soap?
where can i buy that 3M adhesive cleaner?
Can you use the same letters once they have been taken off? If so, what adhesive do i use ?
Does anyone know if the badges on a 2007 ford ranger are adhesives? I don't want to take of the badge and be stuck with two holes.
im trying to do this to my lincoln but it has holes. how would I fill them properly?
Having done this on my own cars over the years I can say the following...DONT use a heatgun... Some boiling water will do just as well if not better and won't mess your paint. Once hot... Are you talking about petroleum jell ?
iiownswagg nah bro...just some straight petrol... As you don't really have it in contact with the paint for long...it doesn't damage it at all... Easy job..especially on a warm day! :)
Where can I get 3m general purpose cleaner?
I'm pooping while typing this comment
im pooping while replying to yours
RU in your car?
Woahhhhh same
Me too!!!
I second that! 😛
why would you want to take off a emblem, if you drive a merc would you take the emblem off ??? and how would you put it back on ???
you can still see where the logos were on my car. how do i get rid of that
if you do that, won't there be 2 open holes there from where the prongs were? won't this potentially let water/moisture in your trunk (or hood)?
Hey i noticed you got clearance lamps on your 1500. Any tips on installing them? I wanna do the same to mine.
I'm trying to remove a badge from one car and transfer to any another one,how can I get them to re-stick?please help..
Great video, just what I was looking for, thanks!
You kidding me? i just de-badged my BMW 1 Series using dental floss and a cup of microwaved water, and it went out clean as dandelion heads, this is just ridiculous
+Fernando Rosas so it didn't affect the paint??
no, not at all
I'm interested in trying your method. I have black paint, did you use anything else?
no, i have black paint as well
+Fernando Rosas time set on microwave?
where can I get lighted emblems just like the one you just removed
thanks bro. used floss and 3M adhesive remover on a nissan altima worked like a charm
@poglepig2102 WD-40 is a good adhesive remover?
@poglepig2102 so no adhesive?
Just didnt want a darker spot where the badges were.
chris hill you can always debadge one letter and see how the paint looks. If it looks odd, just glue that one letter back on.
Black is really hard to fade but bubble or under badge peel easy easy easy
very nice professional video. It was helpful for a noob to modding! Thank you man!!!
won't the heat from the heat gun damage the paint?
@Skaterrocker842
Except that a G35 is a Nissan Skyline... just badged infinity in the USDM.
How I stick the badge back on? Because I have a Nissan Pathfinder and I want to get rid of "FINDER" and stick back the "ER" to make it say "PATHER".
@damianosRC buff with what nd polish with what
do they sale adhesive remover at walmart?? =D
@bsl3216 They Usually don't have holes under them unless there Plug in Badges
How about 4x4 stickers on the box?
Then finish with a rag and more adhesive remover, follow up with clear coat polish applied per mfgr's directions.
So, when do you use the googone?
You ever remove the emblem off the tailgate ?
Going to do this is my vehicle. Thanks for the video! Definitely subscribing!
Will this work on my 2008 Mercedes C230?
any one know if 05 f150 fender emblem are held by holes or just adhesive???
Theres a quicker way to remove the left over adhesive, use a caramel wheel it takes off the double sided tape but does not damage the paint!! I use that method all the time andcive been in the Body repair trade for over 20 years now!
