There’s definitely no ‘should look like’, ‘tabletop’ is such a widely used term, and I think encompasses a use range of standards from basic flat colours to something relatively detailed in some areas. For me I just me they’re not ‘box art’ standard.
that turquoise and red Khemri scheme really pops, I'd like to do a different city when I pick these up but its hard to envision a scheme that would suit them so well.
Fantastic as always. I just want to say that I have really appreciated your choice to do tinted mummy-wraps. It not a choice I would have thought tom make before this but the contrast it adds, while still working the turqoise, is excellent.
Oh you should absolutely play your favourites, and there’s plenty of stunning new models to use from AOS if you needed them as well. There’s a certain amount of irony that some of the ‘legacy factions’ may only get a basic get you by list, but will have a more modern range of miniatures.
As always a very lovely paint job and also very clear steps how you achieved it. I will be rewatching these many times when the TK minis come out 😀 EBay rescues are an excellent way to get hold of these minis but definitely they can come with a bit of extra work to either clean up mold lines or paint jobs. Sometimes mind you it can be very favourable as either the poses or conversions are really nice and some have been painted to a high standard. Recently I’ve been picking up metal Bretonnians men at arms and also foot knights and a unit of 22 metal armoured skeletons which I have always wanted more of
@@MiniatureRealms there is certainly a lot more chainmail on the older men at arms although quite a few also have surcoats like the plastic ones do. I suspect they are noticeably smaller than the current plastics? They do have a different feel to them I’m thinking of getting the plastic knights when they are released and I would love to field metal infantry…possibly some of the plastic infantry too as they will be considerably more accessible in a few more months at least There are some lovely looking proxy minis done in metal by Blacktree…men of Averaign I believe they are called.
@@MiniatureRealms Nice! I have 3 of the old wood elf battalion boxes that have been sitting in my hobby cave for years that will finally see the light of day!
absolutley loving your painting videos for the old world! Im wondering, do you give the whole model a coat of varnish afterwards? ive never used weathering pigments before but im under the impression that you need a varnish after to seal everything in? Ive always been worried about sealing my minis as i once use a matt varnish and the mini looked so flat afterwards
Thank you. I’m with you completely on varnishing, and try to avoid it as a final stage for the same reasons. Where I do I tended to airbrush varnish, and nearly always before metals. Anyway, a little more relevant to your question. For dry pigment powders you can fix them, there are some very good products to do so, however I believe that also spoils that final look. As 99% of the way I use powders is just on the bases and feet, it’s amazing what you can get away with. Not only does the powder mostly just go into all the gaps in the base texture etc, but it’s also in places that you just don’t really handle (most people pick up minis by the edges of the base, or heads and shoulders of minis). Because of this I don’t fix it, as I want to keep the look, and I really don’t have any issues. Now for other kinds of models like tanks etc, that can be different in many cases, but in terms of bases on models like this, I never do.
Thank you so much! That's super helpful. I'm going to try using pigments now 😁. Loving your videos. Your dwarf army is a masterpiece. Do you have an email? I would love to show you my bretonnian force so far 😊
My contact details are all in the video description, so social media, email etc. There’s a link to the channels Discord as well, another great place to share your progress. But I’d love to see what you’re up whichever way you choose 🙂
Do you prefer the skeleton horde or the aggaros dunes wash all over the base? I noticed your tutorials are slightly different from each other, the medium with skeleton horde in this one, and without the medium on the troops, as well as the base washing over the sand texture you use different colors in the different videos. Love your videos, I wish you'd do a necrosphinx one or necropolis knights!
To be honest the weathering powers on the base do so much of the work that any sepia(ish) wash would work, but on its own I think the Aggaros Dunes is probably slightly better. As for the medium or not, I find in many cases water works just as well with contrast paint, it’s hard to tell the difference. The kind of water in your own area can make results vary I guess, so it is probably worth testing. Thank you, I love making the videos. As it stands I don’t own those models, but I’m sure I will add them when I cycle back round to finishing off my own TK. 🙂
I’m not sure if there is an ‘official’ solution suggested in the assembly instructions, but there are lots of extra bits on the sprues that you could easy make one skellie stand out from the rest.
I don’t think they will, the Bretonnia release announcement was a big giveaway. All the old stuff back, some new characters in plastic and resin (including that bone dragon), and maybe another plastic kit in the way the Brets got the foot knights.
Most beautiful and impressive chariot, cracking job!!
Thank you 😊
Another gorgeous Tomb king model yet again, great job mate 👍
Thank you 🙂
Wow, beautiful!!
Thank you 😊
Looking awesome buddy.
Cheers mate 🙂
Good stuff
Thank you 🙂
Tabletop tomb king's chariot... sure.
Amazing!
Thank you 😊
Just started printing off my tomb kings army starting with Settra, im going with a chariot mounted army so this video has been helpful. Thanks stu
Thank you for watching, and best of luck with getting your army painted 🙂
Thank you very much, very useful with the old world boxes that come right now.
Thank you 😊
Nicely done Stuart!!
Thank you Andrew 🙂
That is a really good standard, thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Thank you 😊
Here me thinking that the the minis I've painted were Tabletop ready, this has blown my mind as to what tabletop ready should look like
There’s definitely no ‘should look like’, ‘tabletop’ is such a widely used term, and I think encompasses a use range of standards from basic flat colours to something relatively detailed in some areas. For me I just me they’re not ‘box art’ standard.
I’m working on my vampire counts for now, but these tomb kings are filling my head with ideas… next up is my Skaven… then several others 😅
😂 I know that feeling well, I’m already planning my Empire army for when these are done. 😅
This was a really awesome breakdown. Well down man
Thank you 😊

Yeah I went for the easy eye catching one, there’s definitely some nice alternatives in the 8th edition TK book.

Looks great as usual.

Excellent paint job but nasty collision with that rock incoming
There will be bones everywhere 😂, and thank you 🙂
Fantastic Tutorial!
Cheers Matt 😊
beatifully done.
wouldnt want to ride over that ruin part with a chariot though, ouch XD
you probably wouldnt care if you are a skelly, i guess :P
There’s going to be bones everywhere 😆
…and thank you 😊
I am repainting my old lizardmen! Currently painting a stegadon. know they aren’t a main army for the game but they are my favorite

I’ve very nearly bought some of those old men at arms myself, but decided they don’t quite fit the aesthetic I’m after now.

@Svengar yep I think they will be a bit smaller than the plastics, the ‘current’ ones are 6th Ed; so definite scale creep by then.
So cool.
Thank you
Any chances on a wood elf painting tutorial? I want to bring back the wood elf vs beastmen grudges of old!
Both Wood Elf and Beastmen are on my list 🙂

I’m wondering, how to you glue the riders into the chariot once they’ve been painted?
Just a small drop of superglue

@@MiniatureRealms Thank you for the reply! Keep up the great content
Nice but your chariot left wheel is going to explode against that rock debris in 1.2 second i guess xD
😂 There will be bones everywhere
the black lotus you are using for the bandages looks blue. how is that ?
That’s the nature of the spectrum of black, some tend towards the grey and even brown tones, others the more blue spectrum.
I'm curious. Did you actually cut out the slots in the base to stick the horses on? Seemed the easier and logical thing to do with my chariots.
These were all eBay rescues from before the release, so I think the slots were pre-cut. Either way works though.
is the Caribbean turquoise thinned with water or medium?
I thinned it with water.
50/50?
@tylerford1752 Only a drop in this instance, it’s pretty close to the consistency you need it.
How do you represent the champion of the chariots?
I’m not sure if there is an ‘official’ solution suggested in the assembly instructions, but there are lots of extra bits on the sprues that you could easy make one skellie stand out from the rest.
@@MiniatureRealms 😄 and how YOU do it?
@morcar8991 I’ve only got a unit of 3 for now, and one has a banner, that would represent the chariot with the champion.
I guess you are betting on them not updating these horses
