I stil have this guy from like 12 years ago as a kid. I was always too scared to paint him and he sits in a bag with one painted leg. A really good reminder to myself that if you're too scared to do something it'll pass you by.
Im repainting my entire army becouse I wasn't very good at first. This channel gave me the confidence and know-how to repaint later as I improve. Paint that guy! You both deserve it.
I almost had a heart attack when you sprayed all that brown on the miniature. The final look ended up being better than it seemed earlier. Very well done
I have to admit that I was worried when I saw the full coverage of the brown wash. I know you removed a good amount. It looks absolutely dope on the bone/scroll things. But you were able to bring out enough brightness so that it works on the armor as well. Nice job Casey!
Love the old metal sculpts. Something about the hand sculpt brings a level character that is sometimes missing from the newer plastic minis. Great job as always. That reminds me that I have a old metal Terminator Chaplin just sitting there doing nothing.
I apply it and then once the major excess putty is gone you can take an old brush with some water on it to smooth it out. A finger works better but if you can't reach then a brush will do. Alternatively, and more correctly, a silicon rubber shaper will do even better, but I can't find my set right now lol, I literally have looked and somehow lost like 4 of them...
I think I have one or two of these I don't remember... I just rescued an old kitbash set I had of chaos marines that used legs from the old Warhammer chaos warriors (I guess not too different than the current ones). I made them into a legionaires kill team but just need to see what colors to go with.
Actually yeah. I've been wanting to get a setup for a while, but it's not a small investment compared to a sonic cleaner. Someday though. In the meantime Broadsword Wargaming did a video about 5 years ago on sandblasting, totally awesome! th-cam.com/video/XYs7raCn9vk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=If0QUCxdM46PzZcf
I misunderstood when you explained your new stripping method on Paint Bravely. I thought you meant: soak first and clean in the ultrasonic filled with water later afterwards (missed the step where you put the mini in the jar and the jar in the ultrasonic cleaner). I gave what I thought was your new method a try and can report that that works very nicely as well. The process is slower, but no solvent gets near the ultrasonic cleaner (although I am not that worried about that) and the water gets dirty with paint instead of the stripping flued (which I do see as a nice advantage).
Good repaint, like the new base and color identity. Also loving the Magenta shoulder. My personal take is that you pushed the grim dark a bit too much with the brown wash by spraying it on. Kinda makes it look too dirty and for a chaplain this is pushing it for not having his armor properly cared for but once again this is my take.
He's looking good! I've been painting a lot of Cryx (Warmachine) lately, so I'm perfecting how to highlight black because, well, there's a lot a lot of black cloth in their color scheme. And I've gotten used to working on plastic and resin minis enough lately that I'm not looking forward to drilling and pinning my metal Cryx minis in the future...*groan*
Going from plastic to metal can be so frustrating, those Warmachine metal minis are beefy! Funny enough I have my eye on an older army on eBay, could be fun to paint some of those in the near future :)
Lovely work! I'm assuming you went with a gloss varnish as it allows the oil washes to run better and not hang on the textures a matte or even satin varnish would leave. Might be worth mentioning?
So cool! What an awesome job. Seeing you prime a metal mini by airbrush though, I gotta ask, what airbrush primers have you found that work well for metal? All the ones I tried have a tendency to bead up and it's very frustrating.
Thanks! I used Army Painter in this video, I've got a fresh bottle of that right now, but I've used Stynlrez and Vallejo in the past. As long as they dry and get a couple of solid coats its usually fine, and the coats of varnish help. As far as the beading, that could be a few things. There could be something on the models that just needs to be scrubbed off with some soapy water before priming. I buff mine with a dremel generally, that seems to help, although I don't tend to have any issues with primer on metal. Could be whatever you are thinning it down with to go into the airbrush, it might be thinner than it needs to be. Take some primer with a paint brush and see if it beads up on the model that way. If not then it might be how thin the mix is. It could also be water in your compressor getting through and making it too thin and it just slides around on the model. It's hard to say really, but eliminating one piece at a time should get you there! I hope you figure it out!
I use the brush that came with my dremel originally. It's probably stainless steel, but it has always seemed soft enough not to damage anything. If you wanted to be on the safer side you could always look into brass wire brushes for a dremel, those are much softer, though I haven't tried them. The dremel I have is the Dremel Stylo+. Hope that helps :)

@@eBayMiniatureRescues for me it was super tough.. Nevermind about converting, that's just because you did some at my fav. Vid "the green knight". Hope your doing well and Thx for that paintjob 😊
Really looking forward to getting some warrior priests. I’d bashed one out of a stormcast mini for Mordheim but he looks a bit big. I’m using Cities of Sigmar cavalry with old bits added as my knights at the moment and I think I’ll keep those as is though
Really enjoyed how this one came out.. The all over enamel scared me that it was gonna be too grimy but I think the finished look is excellent. Trust the process..
I would have definitely kept the bright blue on the seals. Stood out much more and was a better contrast chromatically against the gold, and in terms of tone against the black. I'm kind of tired of grim dark, I'm very much in the mood for more old-school schemes that weren't afraid of brighter colors, and this would have been a good opportunity.
Your painting skills are up to their usual high standards but your colour choices are not. You have a Chaplain in Space Wolf armour. An elite of the elites who can't keep his armour clean. I am sure he would be a fine example to the rank and file, if they don't kill him for heresy. Black armour is black and if you want tints then darker tints are the way to go. A midnight blue for example. I have seen that done really well on black armour. The lighter blue grey you used just changed the colour of the armour. But, irrespective of all this, it is just my opinion and perhaps I am stuck in the past where black was black and now grey is the new black.
I have this exact dude that I've just found after 10ish years yesterday hahaha, unfortunately my childish self thought itbwould be a good idea to remove the head and haphazardly glue in a normal space marine head 🥲

Very true, sometimes you just have to paint bravely and get in there or it won't get done. Plus, there's always acetone.

Your ear for music is a cut above, i always appreciate the tracks you use for both being generic enough, but legitimately good and not cheezy
Thanks :)
Casey calls this tabletop standard……… dude is unreal. This is better than something I would enter into a painting competition

Love it. I got the same model a decade ago and he has led many deepstrike assaults
love your content dude, VERY nice work, as usual!!!
11:05 hit me with those hard flashbacks of the "XD Rawr" rap.
Another great rescue with an up to date paint scheme that pays homage to the original
Juan Diaz sculpts were always some of the best. Newer, all digital, models just lack the soul of the old hand sculpted minis.
This chaplain is one of my model holy grails
It's such a good model, I've seen them on eBay for as low as $25, could be worse for a single 40k model these days.
You're becoming an amazing painter. Is cool to watch
That chaplain turned out super clean man, good job!
Thanks man :)
I always love when you do 40k stuff
Every time you added another layer my mind was blown…again. Incredible! Thank you for sharing!
I could see this being a great way to paint the new Inner-Circle style dark angels (Companions, Lion El Jonson, etc).
Yeah that dark green with the enamels would look great :)
Love the old metal sculpts. Something about the hand sculpt brings a level character that is sometimes missing from the newer plastic minis. Great job as always. That reminds me that I have a old metal Terminator Chaplin just sitting there doing nothing.
This one turned out great! Kept the spirit of the original scheme too. Very well done sir.
Im the original owner and approve that it kept the choices and spirit of my paintjob... It was a Hawk-Lords Chaplain back then ;)
I seen you applying the milliput and I thought it was a paintbrush. I was like hey now what's going on here? This is a new technique

I love this model. Itll always be what I think of with chaplains.

With the metal/pewter models you can solder the joints together if you’re careful.
I don't know if I can trust myself lol, but that's a great idea if you are good at that sort of thing.

I like to make a paste with baking soda and rubbing alcohol. Just abrasive enough to scrub and rinses easily.
Nice and grim, while retaining some rich intensity

I think the brown might have been a bit too heavy. He looks like he crawled through a sewer pipe.
He could have...a really big Terminator-sized one.
