Totally agree. Journey before Steve perry was just another trippy weird band with no direction. I bought the Journey 5 cd set and I hate to say it but their older songs were horrible.(I'm not a spaceman) for example. Steve changed them for the better because they had no growth without him. They were content being a stoner band thinking they were making such deep songs. Just my opinion

If true, then Journey would have faded when Perry went on a decade haitus late 80s. Then when he regrouped, he further delayed their comeback in the 90's. True, Perry got the band on top, but he was solely responsible for its decline. As history proves it, Cain and Schon are the backbone of the band. Perry's contribution to the songs were largely on the lyrics and voice, which can easily done by someone else. Cain and Schon were the creators of the music, that's exclusively God-given talent. If Perry is such a star, he could have made it big as a solo artist, right? In fact his 2-3 solo attempts didn't have the staying power.
Perry made a lot in the 80s, and got a lucrative deal so Schon and Cain can have exclusive right to use the trademark thru Elmo Prod. Funny thing is, Perry, as court records show, endorsed the attempted 2018 coup by Valory and Smith, maybe forgetting that he signed a prior deal in 1998 surrendering his rights to the duo. The old Journey had a very toxic past and now we know who they are. Sorry guys, it appears that your man Steve was a double-dealer.

I totly agree. I bought a 5 cd box set of Journey that had basically every song they recorded throughout their career. Some of the pre-perry songs were so bad. Kind of like hippy trippy " deep" stuff. Look up a Journey song called spaceman. This was before Steve perry. Ugggghhh

Neil was shredding with Carlos Santanna at 16. In the early 70s, prog was king and Journey could have joined that pantheon, but no. It's so much better to abandon musical sensibilities for the almighty pop machine. Journey became just another radio band when they could have been much more. Perry wanted to be the indispensable man and in his fight for control, damned them to state fair hell.

Sad that even with all the success that Journey had Neal still can’t acknowledge without Steve Perry brought with his voice, writing abilities and a true entertainer Journey would have been a has been. Journeys true success comes from the co writing of Perry and Cain and Steve’s voice. Honestly I think they could have found another guitarist. He needs to give both men the create the deserved for writing great hit songs and Steve Perry’s voice range and voice. To bad they didn’t care about Steve’s vocal and emotional state or he might still be with the band.

Schon and Cain make me so mad, arguably the greatest voice in rock and they couldn't be supportive. Just the thought of Cain singing DSB makes me wince, for all the fuss there was about him singing it. The REAL issue wasn't politics, it's don't sing something that you can't.

Yes, Steve Perry made Journey soar to the top, I know Neil has to realize that, he totally changed the whole aspect of the band
And Greg was good with them but he didn't put nothing on the plate to make them incredible, that is until Steve came along, their harmonizing was good, they sounded great together, but I think Greg was jealous of Steve, even though he said he didn't want to tour any longer, he and Neil never really wanted Steve in the band, but all that changed when Herbie Herbert, told them he will be the new frontman,
And then of course his vocals were off the charts he has a unique way of singing if you ever noticed how he would use his hands or put his arm up and cock his head to the side, and with doing all that he did it so effortlessly, the emotion Steve put in to delivering a song moved his audience, which is why he has so many fans that love him, he has a way of conveying the story of the song, you felt like you were in the midst of it not to mention the way he touched your heart and soul , he will always be the best vocal singer of that era, nooo one could match him nor top him ever, and he's still amazing to this day!
Nothing but love and respect for this man, I'm forever his fan, faithfully 😊♥️

Raised On Radio tour (Kansas City) was my first and only Journey concert. Actually my first rock concert, period. Blew my 17-year-old mind (and my girlfriend's). We had both been obsessed with this amazing vocalist and band (hearing them on the radio, and listening to their back catalog on cassette & vinyl) since before we even met each other. So to actually get to go see them, at full concert force - while _still in their lethal prime_ - it was just unbelievable!🔥
Btw, just for the record, it was never an actual "farewell tour". As it turned out, of course, it was indeed the last tour with Perry, sadly. But no one knew that at the time, so it was never billed as a farewell tour. Just wanted to clear that up, for new fans who might not know the history...
It's still the greatest concert experience of my life - and I've seen plenty! Cheers.

But in every interview he does, It's always I did this, I did that, that was my decision, he's too self absorbed for me to take serious sometimes. Journey today continue singing the songs from Steve Perry time with other vocalist. No matter how good the new vocalists can be for me is a like a tribute because is no new relevant material, that trascend. The best material are the old/classic songs with other voice. The new albums from 2000´s have been not huges success like in Steve Perry era. These said the numbers, the charts, the music magazines, the reviews. It's one thing to sing very well, hit the notes, etc. and another is to have that connection capable of transcending time and the musical field. Not all singers will achieve it easily.
