I saw jouney twice with the new singer, and he sounded just as good as steve, Every on ese said the same. So Id have to disagree with you, and Ive seen Jouney 3 times with steve in the band too,
li agree Noone is replaceable. And others can try to sing like him but noone can sound jiust like lhim. First of all Steve has soulful singing and he holds the notes like no other Both of the two that replaced him can sing in his tone to them but they dont have his dept of soul sounds and Arnel that was the last one to tour with Journey to replace him was too choppy on his songs.. NOONE Sounds just like Steve if you grew up listening to Journey since they had Steve Perry! And I dont even have to look you can tell by listening I totally agree! He s a one and only.. Just look in his eyes you see his soul it tells how he feels
Disagree. Steve is one of a kind. Some people can sound like someone else but he sang it, but even more, he wrote it and created it. Everyone else is just karaoke
That is such an interesting way to put that, follower. You hear certain celebrities comment about selling their souls. And I think that you’re right! Steve wasn’t willing to sell his soul! Very perceptive of you & good call. Steve, you run your own life. You’re doing a fine job.
The most heartbreaking part of this interview is that Steve Perry doesn't believe his own voice is all that good. His voice sent shockwaves through my soul when I was young. God gifted him with a voice no one else will ever have. It penetrates someone's life and digs up the depths of their soul. I am so sorry he lost the love of his life. I hope he realizes how many lives he has touched because of his personal involvement in making beautiful music.
It was Steve Perry’s voice, but it was also his charisma and his presence in the recordings on the stage that helped create Journey past! He is forever ours…💜
OMG....Great interview.......Steve Perry wrote and sang the soundtrack of our lives. I was born in 53 and grew into Journey. Now that 70 is creeping toward me I am so glad that Steve has found his way back to music and sharing it with all of us. I have always loved your voice Steve and the heart and soul you wrote into your songs. It is just a fact that millions of people love and respect you. Thank you for sharing yourself with us. Peace.
One of the best voices ever. And let's not forget the stage presents. This story he relates is really beautiful. I went through 2 yrs of cancer with my wife. And that process can change anyone. And me and wife loved him too. I don't think people can understand that he is inside and we are outside.
THE GREATEST SINGER OF ALL TIME!!! STEVE PERRY'S VOICE IS A GIFT FROM GOD!! It's now 2022 & Steve has come out with some new music!! HOORAY!!!!! I bought the CD as soon as it came out! So nice to hear his voice again!!
Steve Perry’s entrance & exit from Journey are the apex of society...WHY he retreated almost literally killed me internally; although his memory (& his often re-played songs keep me barely alive WITHOUT him). You are my singing stress relief EVERY evening!!!
I couldn’t understand why he stopped singing because to me he had the greatest voice of my formative years. Now I’m older and understand he is a human like the rest of us. There are phases of our lives. Sometimes we have to say goodbye to an awesome part of life because we burn out, a loved one dies or we can’t do what we used to do. I understand him now. Good for him for putting his life first. I can relate. Maybe that’s why he is still with us and enjoying life.
Oh my God, I feel the exact same way as you Pete. Steve's voice & Journey defines my 20's. Forever grateful to Steve & Journey....Be happy & know what an amazing gift you gave to the world. Sincerely, Kerrie Kanda

I'm so thrilled that the most emotive singer I've ever heard is back! Steve Perry is always so humble and down-to earth and never arrogant and/or self centred! Thank you so much Dr Kellie Nash for convincing ''The Voice'' to keep that promise!😀

I have been a AVID fan since first hearing you Steve! So, so sorry for you loss, she sounds like she was a wonderful woman. You will forever live on in the hearts of your fans, no matter how long you live! A true ICON in the music industry! LOVE YOU STEVE. Be well my friend!
There is no mistaking Steve Perry’s voice for another. His was absolutely unique and the emotions he can create in someone when he sings is incredible. There’s only a handful of artists that will do that for me. My daughter says she is moved every time she listens to “Faithfully.”
I'm so ecstatic Steve Perry has resurrected from his 25 year isolation. As an education/social/academic psychologist, I can attest to the catharsis his resurrection will bring to him and his life! His singing is truly iconic and unmatched! Thank you!
His vocal is breathtaking in Wheel in the sky... when it comes on----I always stop and take it in---and am truly awed.... .God blessed Steve Perry---and Steve has always been so humble and respectful of his gift.
When I hear Steve’s voice or any Journey song I’m transported back to high school! There are voices in music that are iconic and instantly recognizable. Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty; Steven Tyler, David Bowie and many more. Those voices stay with us forever.
Steve is absolutely one of the best Rock singers ever. He can sing higher than a lot of women can. Seamless transitions from falsetto to his regular voice.
one of the few singers that have ever made me get goosebumps when they sing. The combination of words and your vocals have helped me and many thru life. Thank you Steve Perry
Steve, Thank you for being such a huge influence in my life Your music and passion for music has ALWAYS been obvious to me. When you sing... you sing w/ your heart and soul. I hope the beautiful music you have created helps YOU heal and brings you peace. In the recent videos you look happy. Love you Steve
Saw Journey with Steve Perry twice back in 1980s-most phenomenal live band performances ever!! EVER!!!!! Steve was the voice of that great band-and as amazing as their music was recorded-it was even more astounding how great they were live. Unlike so many bands and singers that sound great on a record or on the radio-Journey and Steve Perry sounded even better live. Steve Perry is by far the greatest Rock Ballad singer of all time-and I feel blessed to have heard and witnessed his performances with Journey. Those were important days in my life and always will be. I am a Steve Perry and Journey fan for life-and I have shared the joy from their music with my kids and grandkids-who also love it.
Really awesome to hear he's back into music again! He sounds like the guy you wish famous people are in "real life". Such a genuine sounding person. I just hope he's happy doing whatever he does and if that means more of his music for us, even better!
I was lucky enough to see Journey with Steve in 1981 and 1983. Great shows and yes he was a great singer for sure. Journey was a part of the soundtrack of my youth along with Van Halen, Rush, Judas Priest, Kiss, Motley Crue etc, etc. I could go on and on. I saw all those bands in concert back in the early and mid 1980's. If you're my age (59) you also remember the tickets back then were around 10 dollars! Wow! I sure do miss them days back then.
I do remember I will be 59 in 2 mos, right you are I have guys in their late twenty's early 30 same man I wish I would never grown up with cell phones or computers that must have been cool I said yep you could see a concert for 10 bucks my 1st show that I've seen a bunch of bands in California jam 2 and 1978 Aerosmith Mahogany Rush Bob Welch Ted Nugent Foreigner etc my ticket was $8.75 Is bless the old days.
Man I wish my kids had some of the concert experiences I had. We went to see everyone without even thinking about the price. It’s sickening what some bands charge for tickets now. The average price for a ticket to Kiss’s farewell tour is $170. We spent our own money back then too. There’s no way kids now could do that. Sadly.
I wish he knew how much the millions and millions of people , the fans of all ages and stages of life how he has touched our hearts and lives with first the MAN that he is second HIS MOST BEAUTIFUL voice I have ever heard and who is today , tomarrow and until GOD ALMIGHTY ends this EARTH. Third the COMPASSION you bring in " THE VOICE " YOU SING WITH . STEVE IS NOT A FLY BY NIGHT THING. YOU HAVE BROUGHT PEOPLE TOGETHER IN GOOD , IN BAD , AND THE UGLY, YOUR SONGS ARE WITHOUT WORDS , WE LOVE STEVE PERRY , YOU HAVE LEFT FOR A WHILE BUT YOU ARE BACK AND ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS.
Oh he knows oh yes he does he knows and he loves us all as well.. he did it all for us after all.. 1980s will forever live in Infamy as the greatest american decade to have ever been or ever will be the good the bad and the ugly and we were all beautiful
I saw Journey at least a dozen times when Steve was the frontman. I will never forget exactly where I was when I first heard, "Wheel in the Sky". I was mezmerized by Steve's voice! Steve Perry IS Journey and when he left the band, I NEVER went and won't go to another Journey concert!! I absolutely LOVE his voice and always will! Rock on Steve!!!
"My passion for music had left me, it just was gone, so I felt empty." Interesting, how we go through emotions and stages in our lives. Tons of inspiration still impressed on his songs and fans will remain.
I always enjoy listening to Steve Perry interviews cause he is very entertaining, but also he answers the questions with real sincerity & always makes you want to hear more from him!! And I just want all the radio stations to PLAY his "new music" on the radio on a regular basis, cause we fans LOVE Steve Perry & his new music!!!!!!!
Steve has the voice of an ArchAngel. His music has literally changed the World and made it a better place. Neal’s skills on the Guitar 🎸 also have just as much power as Steve’s Voice. You can take either by themselves and without the other and you still have a masterpiece. But together,,,,, a miracle
Another person that has a powerful voice I don't know if he's still sings with his band or not is Ric Florian of white heart! He's got some powerful vocals as well!
No one's life is easy....I can imagine how devastating his loss was and I'm sure making the choice to leave music was difficult for him when he did that too. I love how humble he is and how he enjoys the simple things of life....but I am selfish and I am thrilled he's feeding us his wonderful voice in songs again. Thank you Steve Perry and God Bless you and keep enjoying the realness of life as you are a true treasure!
I would listen to this man sing the Dictionary. Such an amazing voice. I realize they replaced him with someone who can mimic him pretty well, but it is NOT THE SAME. When Steve left, Journey ended. Such an Amazing talent, I miss his voice. ❤❤❤
I am so happy he is out and about and enjoying music again. I will definitely see him in concert if he tours for Traces. I have preordered his album like a kid at Christmas time. I was never able to see this vocal phenomenon live back in the 80s. He is one in a million!
Angela LuvsGodnCountry Interesting you used the term one in 1 million. I think you’ll enjoy reading this. We are all glad Steve is back. Let me know how you like it? m.box.com/shared_item/https%3A%2F%2Fapp.box.com%2Fs%2F18d0yxkbohz87a3xfvoc/view/13969231993
That article “1 in a Million “ is a really in depth look into Mr. Perry. It explains a lot of him without emotion, but as a living being, I want him just how he is.
Steve Perry and his music has gotten me through a lot of heartache, his voice is phenomenal . Journey is the band they are because of Steve Perry and his voice. Love, love, love Steve Perry.
THE GREATEST VOICE IN ALL OF ROCK. EVER. It would be incredibly selfish to hope to ever hear another voice like this in my lifetime. But thanks be to God we got this one. Truly humbling in its power and inspiration.
Journey was one of my brother’s favorite songs who died of leukemia in 2016. We played Faithfully at his funeral. Tears come to my eyes every time I hear that song.
The two albums of June 1978 that I played the most were Some Girls snd Infinity However, I was at the Stones Show in 'Chicago 78..you ALMOST blew the Stones off the stage, but not quite.
I also just have to echo the sentiment that Steve Perry is one of the best voices - probably of the 20th century - and all those people he listed that impacted him... he's impacted just as many, if not more. He's an incredibly humble man. We missed you... but I can also understand... I'm terribly sorry for your loss, Steve (if you ever read any of these posts).
There is an old country song that says all that glitters isn’t gold. My life maybe simple or boring to many people, but having peace, contentment and joy in my life and in my heart is such a great, great blessings. Be well all.
Omg I loved all his genuine responses. Like so many, Ive missed Steve Perry so much and am beyond heartened that he’s back. Everything Pete is saying...the best voice in music history...how the impact his voice had on us (brilliant response)..thanking him for everything he did. 💯 But I hear every. single. thing Steve is saying. Steve, for 40 years I've been majorly in love with you, you are so beautiful, voice like an angel! Dear, dear Steve, I wish you all love and blessings and so much happiness, you deserve it! All 💘😻💜💛!
I’d like to thank Steve Perry for the song Don’t Stop Believing. I played that song over and over again while I ran away from home at 14 to find a better life…on the run from abuse ..I’m 52. I’m safe now, married with a dog, children are grown , living very well and I made it. Thank you for the inspiration my friend. I did find that better life.
Dear Steve, you have NEVER, EVER HAVE LEFT MY ❤💙💜 AND YOU NEVER WILL! YOUR VOICE IS THAT OF AN ANGEL AS ARE YOUR LOOKS AND HUMILITY! I WILL 💘 YOU ALWAYS, FOREVER! BLESSINGS!
I love how he always gives credit to Arnel. If you just listen to him you think just as good as Perry. But if you listen to Arnel then listen to Steve, you hear the difference.
I would really like to hear about the Trial by Fire time and Steve's hip replacement surgery and leaving Journey permanently back in 1997-1998. What I really would like is for Steve Perry to write and autobiography.
I think all his fans wish he would write about his life, but I don't think he's going to do it. I had heard him in a prior interview address this question and he said that he wouldn't like to gossip. However, I wish he looked at it a different way, as part of the cultural history of those years and of rock & roll.
I am 57 years old, Steve Perry and Journey was a big part of my growing up years and beyond. Listening to him now brings back fond memories of friends and lovers I had back then. Thank you Steve for sharing your God given talents with the rest of us!
Though he's always been open with us, it's refreshing, especially in these times, to listen to Steve and hear him speak eloquently and freely about what has led him to make the decisions he has made. His humility is something rare now. He's still very much that kid that grew up on farm land near that little town in the middle of the agricultural bowl in the near center of our beautiful California. And how centered and grounded he proves to be after all these years. Thank you Pete for sharing Steve with us via your program. We appreciate the fine way you spoke with Steve that allowed him to open up.

I'm so thrilled that the most emotive singer I've ever heard is back! Steve Perry is always so humble and down-to earth and never arrogant and/or self centred! Thank you so much Dr Kellie Nash for convincing ''The Voice'' to keep that promise!😀
Thank you Lisa, I did not know about this great interview, so happy you told me about it. You knew I wouldn't want to miss any interview with Steve Perry!!

Yes I agree
I hung on every word. What a sincere and engaging man. He’s inspiring.
Steve Perry wants the same things that we all want. So happy to hear that he’s very normal. It makes me respect him more. Great guy!
Such a HUMBLE guy! WOW! He really didn't think his voice had the kind of effect on people that his musical heroes had on him? WOW! Steve you effected millions of people with your voice and songs! I have been a AVID fan since first hearing you Steve! So, so sorry for you loss, she sounds like she was a wonderful woman. You will forever live on in the hearts of your fans, no matter how long you live! A true ICON in the music industry! LOVE YOU STEVE. Be well my friend!
Steve Perry is the ultimate singer, so damn powerful with his words! A legend and he doesn't know it. Unbelievable that Steve doesn't realize that.
He does, he also realizes there’s more to life than money and fame.
He is a decent person. A. diamond in the rough.
Love Steve Perry! Foolish Heart is one of my favorites! Such a distinctive and moving voice...and what a humble guy! ♥️
Wow, he is so humble and sweet. Now I know why I always loved him so much. He captivated me with his voice.
You got a man crush , Hermia ?
There is no mistaking Steve Perry’s voice for another. His was absolutely unique and the emotions he can create in someone when he sings is incredible. There’s only a handful of artists that will do that for me. My daughter says she is moved every time she listens to “Faithfully.”
I'm so ecstatic Steve Perry has resurrected from his 25 year isolation. As an education/social/academic psychologist, I can attest to the catharsis his resurrection will bring to him and his life! His singing is truly iconic and unmatched! Thank you!
Great voice!! My favorite song is separate ways. Fit a time in my life
@@teresagray1477 I love “separate ways” 🥰
I've had "Wheel In The Sky" and his voice in my head this whole interview...it was the first Journey song I heard.
Great song ..great guitar solo too
His vocal is breathtaking in Wheel in the sky...
when it comes on----I always stop and take it in---and am truly awed....
.God blessed Steve Perry---and Steve has always been so humble and respectful of his gift.
Love this guy’s humility and exceptional voice. ❤️❤️
He's no Chris Cornell.
@@TheKitchenerLeslie thankfully
Apples to oranges. Journey isn’t the same as soundgarden
@@godzillasimpson8357 My gay uncle HATES Soundgarden. LOVES Journey.
@@jtmindc Why? People still care about Cornell and he's dead. This guy not so much.
Steve you UNDERESTIMATE YOURSELF! You ARE a star. Don’t stop believing in yourself. From a neighbor in Visalia.
The best voice ever, I love him.
Man he has No Idea his Gift. Noone like him. Miss him up there
Stevie is the most humbled man ... he deserves to find love again ♥️♥️♥️
I'm here waiting! ❤❤
one of the few singers that have ever made me get goosebumps when they sing.
You certainly are blessed for getting to see them live twice. Unfortunately I never got to see them. People who have are so fortunate.
Yes saw them twice and they were definitely the best! Feeling grateful to have been able to see them twice! ❤
Really awesome to hear he's back into music again! He sounds like the guy you wish famous people are in "real life". Such a genuine sounding person. I just hope he's happy doing whatever he does and if that means more of his music for us, even better!
Steve Perry is the best vocalist !!! And I'm still in my early 20's :-)
Obviously You have good taste😁
One of the best for sure
I think Mickey Thomas is equal if not better
If you love Steve Perry, listen to Sam Cooke. Steve Perry did.
Uea me to im still I'm my 20s too for about 30 years wink 😉
Sadly.
@@Boethius411 Gee, surprised Gene Simmons would settle for so little…
10 bucks, smh. Keeping tacking on zeroes now, man. 🤣🤑😅
He knows. He's just so modest.
HE'S GENIUS VOCALIST, he loves too hard like most of us,but he truly is a gift to the world, sing it, STEVE while you have the power, god bless
I totally agree There will never be another Steve Perry such a totally awesome singer so talented
The sincerity really comes through. Very real.
Some of the best songs ever, Steve. Don't sweat it bro. You did it.
Steve Perry interviews as he sings from the soul. Love his passion. Love him.
Neal Schon has a cd and YT channel
Then go listen to Steve Perry's music & don't listen to Journey Band anymore, simple as that.
To the new singers credit he considers Steve Perry his idol.
If I had my choice between Steven Tyler and Steve Perry I would take Steve Perry hands down his voice is the best

When I think "voice of an angel", particularly in the context of a rock or pop singer, I immediately think of Steve Perry.
Something most people don't know ...Steve Perry is a very charitable man, who gives alot of his time to those in need.
The two albums of June 1978 that I played the most were Some Girls snd Infinity
However, I was at the Stones Show in 'Chicago 78..you ALMOST blew the Stones off the stage, but not quite.
This is such a great thread! You are so loved by your fans Steve, including me! I listen to you all day long,! ❤❤❤❤
I've played guitar for 35 years and I am always following the music. But when Steve sings, I listen!!! You're the greatest brother 💯❤️
I enjoyed the hell out of that interview. Thank you for not asking a question and then talk over the guest when they're trying to answer it.
Beautifully said. WE LOVE YOU STEEEEVE!!!!!!!
Steve Perry what a great singer and a great guy .I still listen to his music today
I so glad you are back Steve Perry!! Please don't ever leave us again. God gave you such a blessing with that voice and song writing. Love you always! 😇
Come on Jan, get a grip.
Steve, for 40 years I've been majorly in love with you, you are so beautiful, voice like an angel! Dear, dear Steve, I wish you all love and blessings and so much happiness, you deserve it! All 💘😻💜💛!
It HAS been a long time comin! Thank God Steve is back! Great interview.
BLESSINGS!
His voice touched the hearts and souls of an entire generation
I love how he always gives credit to Arnel. If you just listen to him you think just as good as Perry. But if you listen to Arnel then listen to Steve, you hear the difference.
Love Steve Perry, his voice is awesome and listen to all your music. Sorry to hear about your lose 😥🙏❤️
I listen to you all the time you are the best of all of journey 😘
Steve Perry definitely has the best voice. How can he not know that? It sends chills through my spine.
I have a picture of Steve, front row at Busch Stadium singing to me and I think about that moment many times. Miss you.
Great host, great interview.
I never tire of listening to Steve Perry.
I am 57 years old, Steve Perry and Journey was a big part of my growing up years and beyond. Listening to him now brings back fond memories of friends and lovers I had back then. Thank you Steve for sharing your God given talents with the rest of us!
Love watching people react today to Steve's voice. No other voice like his. Live you Steve!!!
He'll always have the most beautiful spirit.
Simply an all around good down to earth person with a fantastic voice. Got to love Steve Perry.
