Stats show women are far less lonely in older age than men because women have more community around them. I try not to judge too harshly as victims are victims. However, to work in such a demanding role, and then to have your husband give you so little regard must be heartbreaking. Some people can forgive a dalliance, but your partner falling in love with someone else is when I think most people get to the "irrevocably broken" part. Scammers are very good and persuasive with what they do, but just a little bit of cynicism is often enough to stop these things before losses get too great.

For REAL! I used to be a hospice nurse and it is undoubtedly rewarding work, but VERY difficult. In fact, while I was pregnant with my second child, I had a six month old baby come onto my hospice service. It wrecked me. When my son was born, I left my job and never went back into nursing.

When I was in postpartum while still in nursing school there was a baby born without kidneys. Didn't last long, of course. That was one of the big moments that helped me decide that old people are more my speed.

Then he rehooked up on line with a woman he knew in high school. He was in his 70s. He leaves his wife for this woman. Wife filed for divorce and makes sure he can't access her money. The second the new girl finds out he's broke and sick, she dumped him. Then he had the nerve to see if his ex will take him back. She didn't. Guys like this are living in a fantasy land.
