Hi Carl, do you know anyone that makes a similar low work boot to the Rolling Dubs Trio, Coupen boot? Unfortunately they don't make my size(13). Thanks again for the great video, I loved Standard and Strange
I live in the city and got my hands on one of cockpit's A-2 MIL-SPEC leather jacket; I get so many compliments on it! It fits very well, they don't do S,M,L, or XL, they fit you by suit size. It fits like a glove. it really does take a while to break in, but it absolutely is worth it. it definitely is a jacket that will last a lifetime
I feel so lucky I found this channel. I been looking for content like this for a long time. Great video I love how you go into almost every detail and talk about the fabrics and a brief history of the brand.
Neil is right, many stores in this space make me feel like I am being judged. I recently went to their Oakland store and the sales associate was very helpful, never rushed me and let me try on multiple things. Bought a pair of JL boots and a shirt. Great shop.
Love NYC , So nice seeing places I recognise. Some lovely gear as well pal , hope you are having a great time on the run up to Christmas and you and the family have a merry Christmas.
Great video! My only problem is if I were to go into a store like Standard and Strange I would be tempted to spend way too much money. Amazing clothing in there. I hope you do more videos like this.
Thank you for this change of pace. I enjoyed the little bit of backstory on the brands with fill-in covering material choices and, in some cases, the creation of them along with the detailing.
I actually live in New York. I have to check these places out. Btw, I saw that you on instagram that you follow hoffman boots. I absolutely love my 16 inch all leather powerlines. They're really the best kept secret of Pacific North West boot making.
Having owned (and still have them) numerous Avirex jackets/coats over the years, I always thought Cockpit USA was a knockoff! Now I know better. Great Video Carl...loved it!
Great show, I visited Avirex back in the early 80’s I was blown away and owned several jackets. This was before the Japanese took the market to a whole other level.
merry christmas i just bought the cockpit usa a2 battleworn jacket nice jacket i am now at the cockpit usa a2 goatskin mustang i take a small the jacket is out of stock keep up the good work
This really takes me back. I never made it to Cockpit somehow, but before I was a trailworker and then a dry stone worker and sawyer, I was a cartoonist with an interest in menswear living in NYC right at the apex of that revival. I was a Put This On and Die Workwear OG, and I made trips out to see places like Moulded Shoe and French Garment Cleaners, and several I can't remember the names of properly. I bought and resoled my first pair of Aldens, which made me totally unafraid when I bought my first pair of White's while living in the city, and had them resoled for my first year of trail work after moving back to Maine. I still cut in White's. Learning about construction and maintainance from the menswear world meant I was able to maintain my wilderness gear well, and help my teammates to do the same. Cockpit and Standard and Strange both still have the energy I remember from that time.
When I saw Albert’s post on IG I was really hoping you recorded and made a video. More explorations like this! I live in the middle of nowhere basically and miss out on the cool stores like S&S and Self Edge
Damn man, this video was awesome!!! I love these kind of videos. I would love to see you make another series called "Travelin with Carl" or something like that lol..i love your content,I learn so much from your videos...can't wait to see what's next!!!
Been waiting for this video to drop since I heard you’re going to the city with Carl. Once the vlog video quality is on par with your in studio video quality and sound, you’re unbeatable
For me Carl, this is the best video you’ve put out. Followed you for a while now because I respect your knowledge base. Let’s have some more like this if you can. Thank you.
That cossack jacket you have there is incredible! I cant believe it is not made by Himel. He usually has that good of an eye to make something like it. Just stunning and the fit is insane. I hope there will be video on it
Carl, awesome man... please more of this, I enjoyed every minute.. I'm a fanatic on Japanese clothes and boots and I love you're exploring some of these brands... no better wardrobe full of US and Japan made stuff.. cheers buddy.
i used to be one of those dudes that thought it mattered where it was manufactured. As long as people put out the word that its quality and its tested and approved by everyone idgaf where its from. those y-2 jackets looked really good!
I was lucky to buy the Alpine Para jacket years ago both in nylon and leather. The nylon got stolen. Unfortunately I missed the leather reissue couple of years ago. My absolute favorite jacket.
I stumbled on Cockpit USA after being burned by another brand and I think they are fantastic. Not exactly cheap, but a far lower price point than many comparable brands. Highest quality materials and very fashionable inventory.
Hey Carl. I finally got around to watching this video and was thoroughly impressed. What a great shop and an amazing selection. I'd like to hear your thoughts on Sylvester Stallone's plaid jacket from the movie Cliff Hangar. It caught my eye a few years ago after watching it for the umpteenth time. It's unique and I think worthy of mass production. Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication. I look forward to seeing more videos on jackets.
Hello.I saw this video and was very impressed with the skill in the yor work. since I have experience in the field of leather sewing I would like to visit you as soon as possible . thank you.
That was a fun watch, Carl. Thank you very much. I live vicariously through you. I found myself wondering about prices, especially on pieces like that giant coat in the first store. Did you take anything home from those stores? If so, I hope it shows in future videos. Ha, I just found your included links! You're the man. Thanks for fixing my "wondering".
Thanks for great content love your videos I have one question that’s been on my mind for awhile : What do you fashionable people wear at home relaxing ?
A couple years ago i bought an n1 deck jacket from them. All the button holes were frayed. More like slits than proper button holes. From their catalog, "USN N1 Jacket showcases superior quality in its craftsmenship." So much for USA made! Ended up giving it away.

Absolutely great video. The only caveat is that I've got an irresistible urge to buy everything in both stores!

I’ve read that book that was mentioned in the video - knowing that’s were the name came from for the store makes it infinitely cooler lol
Y2 Leather has the nicest Indigo Leather i have ever seen.
It was beautiful and heartbreaking when it didn’t fit!!! 😫

I stumbled on Cockpit USA after being burned by another brand and I think they are fantastic. Not exactly cheap, but a far lower price point than many comparable brands. Highest quality materials and very fashionable inventory.
I agree. They have a very attractive price point for what you get.

A lot of cool stuff in this video. Also really like the green jacket Carl walks in with (need to shorten that shirt underneath tho).

GREAT VIDEO Carl. I’m new to your channel, and just subscribed. Keep up the great work!
Thanks and welcome!
More of these!
The Freenote wool jacket is from all wool. Its a proper blend with a lot of other stuff in there
They should carry Wool & Prince tees... the only tees I've been wearing for years
That vest jacket is sick!
Good work.
Thanks for great content love your videos
I have one question that’s been on my mind for awhile :
What do you fashionable people wear at home relaxing ?
As always awesome content!! What green jacket with leather trim are you wearing? It’s beautiful!!
You do more videos like this!!
How I never heard of cockpit USA is beyond me. If my leather patriot coat ever arrives and I hate it I’m getting a cockpit jacket!
Dude right?? I feel bad it took be this long to check them out!
5:00 you look like Matthew Henson 😂
@13:15 what is a “locally sourced horsehide from china”?🤔
I would assume its sourced in the same area as the workshop in China. Though I'm not really sure either.
Carl, what is the green jacket you’re wearing?
Beautiful jackets!
I like the green with brown leather accented jacket that Carl wears. What brand and model is it please?
Carl u go to NYC and u don’t visit Schott? They have a new store & it’s awesome.
This made me feel like I was at the store. Cool video.
Yeah dude! Just having a good time with you virtually hanging out. 🙂
Damn, i want to upgrade my wardrobe right now!
Looking like Bane with that Parka 😎
Bane Carl 4:52 lol..
