    Cockpit USA IS the current official supplier of the leather A-2 jacket for the U.S. Air Force.
    Products in this video:
    -Cockpit USA N-2B: rebrand.ly/zniamvo
    -Cockpit USA N-3B: rebrand.ly/u53iytn
    -Cockpit USA MA-1: rebrand.ly/ugzgfrb

      My A-2 is not from this company, there are several based on DoD requisitions.
      Second, as a C-17A pilot who went to Tule AB, Greenland, I did not have an N-2B. The DoD issues a Gore Tex parka. The DoD nylon flight jackets have also moved away from Nomex satin.

    I still have my N-3B parka from the US Army. It’s still the warmest jacket I own. I need it out here in Montana it’s -45 this morning without the wind chill.

    This video has perfect timing. I ended up finding a 1980s Alpha Industries N-2B bomber jacket in the closet couple weeks ago. It wasn’t surplus. It was made in the US and I guess was made for the general public since it’s missing any of the contract labels (at least I think; I can’t seem to find any). It was all black, barely used condition. Got it dry cleaned and is now part of the rotation!

    Great video, as always. That is a jacket that I was unfamiliar with. Now I'm considering adding one to my rotation. I'm surprised they went with Primaloft. The US military rejected Primaloft because it was too fragile. Climashield is usually a better choice for me.

    I remember being issued an N2B in the early 80's in addition to my M65, as the quartermaster was out of N3Bs in my size. Best jacket I've ever owned - even my ice fishing gear isn't as good. I really loved the pass-through pockets and wish more companies included them. I still have my M65, just haven't fit into it in years. Maybe try that one next?

    • @mwirth187
      @mwirth187 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They still issued a type of these around 2006 when I was stationed in Korea. It was cotton so as long as it was too cold for snow to melt, it was great. I still have my BDU m65 field jacket BTW and occasionally wear it to walk the dog. Cheers!

    I prefer 3m thinsulate because it’s easier to wash and it’s less bulky. I’ve seen a Uniqlo bomber jacket with those sleeves but I think it’s too keep your wrists secure as possible. That quilted liner is apparently call an onion quilt and it’s odd design is to keep the lining in place. The rope on the buttons I’ve do know they were made earlier with cotton but later a nylon blend. The fur trim is a little interesting because when it comes to nb3 or m51 or other parkas with fur trims in general they used mainly wolves fur because the fur does not get soaked by the snow and was super effective at insulation but expensive to and they would use racoon or fox fur then fake fur as later on the army didn’t see the point of using that stuff anymore.

    I wonder if that wrist cuff feature is functional? Maybe to give a spot of relief to more easily pull the cuff back to look at your watch? I know those ribbed cuffs that are stitched all the way around can be a bear when you want to look at your watch.

    For the cutback on the sleeve cuffs. Arcteryx jackets use something similar on some of their elastic cuffs such as the Atom LT. I find it helps the sleeve expand a little easier than if it was a typical cuff sewn in a circle

    I’ve worn an N-2B in wintertime for around 20 years. Have owned several in NYC/LI area and also up in Rochester/Buffalo. Great warm jacket that you can get for $75-150 range online. Be careful of the Asian knockoffs but there are some Euro sellers with. OS U.S. Military ones. The mentioned Cockpit USA also has them. My GF thought ut was a smart winter choice….and she is actually from SIBERIA!!😸

    Question for all "lumber sexuals"
    What types of wristwatches goes with this style?
    IMO stainless steel doesn't mix well with the natural color scheme of the lumber look, but a gold watch is way to fancy.
    I'm currently sporting a black Casio sports watch, but black doesn't really fit either.
    What goes with the nickel and brass hardware on my boots, and belt?

    The only jacket I bought that I never really wore. I'm old and cold now, wish I still had it.
    Actually too warm for almost anything (when I was 30 years old). Very stiff. Never really "broke in".
    Did I say it was warm? The fur was real coyote so it wouldn't allow your frozen breath to accumulate.
    Yes, you looked like an Arctic Explorer when you wore it.

    Can't fault the review except at 4:45 'real-world' conditions. With a temp of 29F (which is -1C) and little to no windchill, honestly, for most of Eastern Canada and some of Eastern US that's a 'warm' winter's day and most guys out here wouldn't bother with more than a sweatshirt when working.
    We need to get some data at -15C to -35C (5F to -30F).

    • @CarlMurawski
      @CarlMurawski  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So, would you expect me to travel to Alberta Canada each time I need to test out a new jacket? That's simply not financially reasonable or even a sensible request. I live in an area with a very high concentration of people, and many whom might consider buying this jacket. Sure, you could consider wearing it in extreme conditions but I wouldnt.
