@@teckreactionsShaun is the keys player next to Cory Henry - the one who got up and took his headphones off during Lingus. He had been ill since April last year and sadly passed away earlier this week. He had 7 Grammy awards to his name. Absolute genius of a musician and by all accounts, a wonderful man who looked after those around him.
I commented on his first two listens, that when he gets to this one he should have in mind that the soloist is the keyboardist who started the first two. Oh well :)
Such a killer track. Twice when I've seen them, this was the closer. Gave the audience a chance to sing along, and Michael also took the opportunity to introduce the band while the poor guitarist kept the ostinato up the whole time. The trumpet soloist was Justin Stanton. On the other tracks you've checked out he was on keys. Talented dude.
Utterly heartbreaking that Shaun Martin has passed away this week. Check his big solo on Thing of Gold, or his amazing talk box work on Bet. RIP Shaun.
Such a beautiful piece. I wish the string section was higher in the mix though, I can barely hear them even though they are visually well represented (I think the video director is in love with the cellist 😅). My suggestion for the next reaction would be “Binky” from the earlier session/record “Ground Up”!
Great reaction as always! Tiny and mostly meaningless correction for the record: the instruments you’re seeing when the brass first enters are flugelhorns, rather than mellophones. The two have a very similar tone quality and appearance, but flugels are typically keyed in Bb like a trumpet, and have the same range as trumpet. Thus, it’s the more common horn for a trumpet player to double on. The mellophone is closer to a French horn, and I believe is usually keyed in Eb for a slightly lower range. They’re most often seen in marching bands, where the front-facing bell is desirable over a French horn, which would be playing to the visiting team. 😁
Last of you inytube... : Have a look on Sina Drums[ Sina jaming with Elvis- Polk S.] / quiet old, but she is a brilliant German- drum maid- not only techniques- but also emotions- she has it ALL!❤
for all of their extremes...from Lingus, the Lalah Hathaway multi-phonics vocal tune, that crazy collab with Jacob Collier, et all - Shofukan is my favorite from a simple, listenability & instrumental songwriting standpoint. Thanks for reviewing. Love the channel brother
Dude! I've really enjoyed going through your reactions to Snarky Puppy, and Dirty Loops before that. It was great to relive again the awe and pure joy I felt when I saw them the first few times myself. You have some great recommendations in the comments for what you could go to next, but my suggestion would be not to go too far from this era for now, and try one of their amazing collabs in the Family Dinner albums, particularly with another musical genius, Jacob Collier. I'd try "Don't You Know", featuring Jacob Collier and Big Ed Lee.
Some ambitious folks have arranged this piece for percussion ensemble and for a cappella vocals, both extraordinary. I’ve seen them perform this live and it is a blast (although as mentioned in another comment, the poor guitarist has to stand there and play that riff for ages). There’s a more recent album called Empire Central that has a track called Trinity that I think you’ll appreciate as a worship drummer because it gets real gospelly at the end of it, but you really can’t go wrong with any Snarky Puppy track.
Oh man, the whole album is great. You've definitely hit the highlights, although Tio Macaco is straight up fun. If you want to break from the album I highly recommend picking up One Hope. It's a blast! Oh, and if features percussion!
But to be real with you, been watching Snarky reaction for years, and after Lignus, Outlier, What About Me, Sleeper, Shofukan the most viewed video reactions is then Snarky Puppy & Metropole Orkest - The Curtain (Official Video) (long one but frikken GREAT, has to be this version, its two out there. Its like reaction to lotr theatrical and not extended), One of the newer releases Trinity). I just love Kite and think it's highly underrated! And also Something feat Hathaway is good for a vocal coach react,
@@teckreactions ;) I love when people dare to use #/b on B/C and E/F. I can be very useful when describing the harmonic context. If an instruction manual says "Use a flat head screwdriver to open the device" it's nice to know if you're supposed to look for a flat head screw or just pry it open.
@@miff227 Haha... ;) You just did that to wake up the microtonality people. I like it. Until they can make up their mind about notation I think your suggestion is fair game.
Rip Shaun martin. Absolute legend
RIP Shaun Martin
Wait. Who is Shaun Martin? What happened?
@@teckreactions His song "The Yellow Jacket" from his album 7 Summers is a divine piano jazz groove (there is a good video on his YT channel).

That bass fill at the end is one of my favorite bass fills ever. Your reaction to it was absolutely perfect.
So good!
The trumpeter who played the solo's name is Justin Stanton and he's equally as accomplished on keyboards as well.

I would recommend the curtain with snarky/ Metropole orchestra . amazing track

RIP Shaun.
This is how I find out?! :( RIP Shaun indeed.
I would love to see you do Snarky Puppy with Jacob Collier "Don't you know:"
Now Outlier and KITE. Please dont jump over Kite! Such a great tune!
You should see there song Trinity. It’s a newer track.
yeah i think Trinity is a great next listen
I second this!

I would finish this session. Every song is good.
Will do
KITE!!!
Woo Hoo!!! Snarky Puppy Friday!! Such a great song. Thanks for making my Friday!!
The snarky puppy rabbit hole goes deep. If you want more, there's their older stuff, family dinner and the metropole orchestra album

You should try the Sylva session. The Curtain is my absolute favorite.
This was awesome! This is a new band for me and the more I hear, the better I like.
One of my favorite tunes on this session

Justin Stanton on the trumpet solo, he also wrote the song Outlier that you reacted to.

Not Mellophones but Flugelhorns
