It was great to get to meet you guys at the con and getting my playmat signed . Special thanks to Phil for helping me find everyone that was in the command zone that was completely unnecessary, but you did it anyway and it was incredibly kind.
Phil is finally in the podcast!!! LET'S GOOOOOO
y'all are now pro level as the camera this year is clean in 60FPS, everyone is in the shot and lapel mics? much improved over past years! maybe someday I'll get a chance to meet you all one year!
Hey, Richard!
It was AMAZING getting to play the Derevi deck with you AND Tomer in Vegas. "The" Joshua G. gets all the credit for it, of course. My only regret was that I couldn't play during Joshua's match with Phil on Sunday! Thanks so much for the shout-out; it makes Joshua and me both so happy.
Sending love to you all,
Richie ❤
The lapel mics are fantastic! I remember previous episodes recorded with the camcorder mics were a bit difficult to listen to. Nice improvement to production!!
It makes me happy to see you all together.
Big thanks to you guys for coming out and jamming so many games. I know it can be tiring to interact with so many strangers but you guys were great to play with and talk to
Would be really cool to listen to an episode where you just talk about your personal EDH decks. Tomer and Crim are pretty vocal about what they have, but I've only got a general idea of playstyles from Phil, Richard, and Seth. Would love to hear more :)
I got to jam a game not only with Phil but also Richard (twise). Honestly one of the highlights to my weekend , thank you guys so much!
I get the set up is for a good camera angle while just using one camera, but with the set up and background I can't get it out of my head that you're all getting ready for your class photo to get taken lol.
haha, yeah it does look like it. think it's the curtain in the back - has that photoshoot vibe to it
Crim's advice for deck building: "Eat your vegetables" (aka play removal)
Crim's advice for Las Vegas: "bring your vegetables"
I love his consistent advice!
Definitely impressed by the upgraded production quality compared to last year’s vegas episode which seemed like it was shot on someone’s cell phone in a hotel room!
I'll toss in my favorite play/start from this weekend:
While playing my Cosima (Mono-Blue Landfall), I did the thing!
1. Myriad Landscape
2. Island > Retraced Image > Island
3. Island > Cosima > W. Bauble
4. Fabled Passage - Double land trigger - then End of player's turn before mine - I cracked my Myriad and copied it with Virtue of Knowledge Adventure
*Resulting in me drawing 5 cards (rather than putting the 6th Voyage counter on) at the end of their turn due to me having 4 additional Islands enter
I was one of the people to die to Kaldra! I couldn’t script it better myself. I was playing Ayara!
Awesome to see all you guys out there shoulder to shoulder with the fans jamming games. The community is very health and very welcoming. Love to see it!
Omg I love this setup with everyone together
Look at all these handsome fellas! Stoked for this one!
Sound quality is great! Big improvement compared to last years lol
Phil got a bucket list item done. He got married in Vegas. It was in a game of commander, and he died, but I think this still counts as a shotgun wedding.
I died by drawing my entire deck, that's a win in my book 🤣
LOVE YOU GUYS, HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!
Hearing the stories of the conventions is always a treat, going to have to make magic con Philly again next year. I was trying to find Seth and crew there because I was getting cards in my cube signed and I really wanted him to sign my maze’s end but found out he left already
I’ll be more ready next time, I have some jank that got me through some bad time that needs signed :)
To be fair, magiccon deck power levels WOULD be high because those people have the money and time to actually travel to vegas for a magic-specific event... OF COURSE they have gaia's, lotus, etc lol
what you described with fast mana, duals, jank, and no board wipes is game knights meta.
I like the normalization of overpowered tools like dank mana and ramp without just using it to abuse tier 0 cards. That way when ancient tomb comes down it can be to ramp to a carnage tyrant in a fun with Dinos deck or whatever compared to if you see it, expect tier 1-0 deck
Yes. The meta outside clash is very different 😂
Lol thanks for the shout-out. I was the mairsil player, and to be fair, the mirror mad phantasm was all luck to mill everything but 2 cards. And lol yeah the second game with the jeweled lotus was fun but I was also the first to die 😅
Much nicer production than the podcast from the hotel room last time. Thanks for that.
Yeah what Tomer said sums up what I would assume is the casual Vegas player; if they can afford to go to Vegas for the weekend then usually these players will also have the budget to invest heavily in their decks.
I love these irl vegas podcasts lol
I wanted to judge at Vegas, but had to withdraw due to health concerns. I look forward to seeing y'all at the next Magic event!
stinks that you had to withdraw, I hope you are all good?
@@colyrne health is definitely improving, I should be 100% by the end of the week
@@JudgeCanada that's great to hear; Here's to you making the next one!
I wasn't at the Con, but I did get to Opposition Agent a Fervent Mastery the other day. That was spectacular.
Such a great video, Seth looking awesome style on point! What a great group =)
48:06 I truly wish I spent more time in the commander free play area. I was hoping to find you guys all weekend and I only saw Tomer and Richard for a brief moment. It's my fault though because I literally sat down for 1 commander game all weekend - it was my first magic con so I was enjoying all the booths and main stage stuff and artist area.
Good to know you guys were just literally jamming games all weekend haha. I know where to find you next time! ❤
50:00 so glad you guys said all this cuz I also didn't want to interrupt you if you were mid game. You guys rock! ❤
"Easier to resolve than Cathar's Crusade..." lmao what a seal of approval 😊
Going to a CON implies a certain level of investment in the game, either in time or money. Of course you're not going to encounter precon level decks. I don't think convention pods are an accurate reflection of the generalized average edh pod.
That's what I was thinking as well. Not only is it a convention, but it's also one in Vegas. There just going to be more money there.
doubly so for a con in a touristy city most people will have to take time off and fly to. it doesn't get much more invested then this is your holiday
I spent all my money on cards caouldnt afford a ticket lol
My massive spec on 1000$ 4 pack magic 30th boxes has financially ruined me so I couldn’t afford to go.
@@CreateWorldsmost genuine honest problem we all probabalu have
Black Lotus did include the Pajama party at no additional cost
As someone with said Universes Beyond deck, it was Great to run it! (I'm SO excited for Princess Bride SL)
For anyone thinking about a Universes Beyond deck...prooobably don't cast Aggravated Assault without a use or plan for it 😅🤣
I’m honestly shocked Richard didn’t already know about Reconnaissance. It seems like a card that’d be in a majority of his white decks.
ABU Duals have gone down *a lot* in price ever since last year. Magic 30th shattered the Reserve List myth for a lot of collectors... who then decided to sell out of Magic, often at vastly deflated prices.
I've found Tundras for ~$150, and Underground Sea is sub $300 in a few places. Still pointlessly expensive, but no longer unobtainable for a lot of people.
I love the hotel curtains.
I'll try to go to the next one. Seems about time I complete the magic journey.
Reconnaissance is great in my Varina, Lich Queen deck.
Reconnaissance was not printed when "damage on the stack" was a thing; that was added in Sixth Edition in the following year. And Reconnaissance was errata'ed at the time so it wouldn't be stupid with damage on the stack.
All my lads in one place!
My gosh the undercut from Seth hot dayum brother.
Richard lowkey drippy with that Rilakkuma swag 🤯👍
Awesome set up!!!
I can’t afford a jeweled lotus let alone to go to vegas, makes sense why you saw so many high powered decks.
I play a deck it has 18 fog effects plus 3 repeatable fogs. It the deck i am known for. I am deciding on if it needs the one ring or not. It would only count as half a fog for me because you can still lose. My 8 year old wants to play her cat deck against Richards bird deck. Next time if Phil there and I come I will bring window Jesus army fan club to get pictures Phil!
If i could afford to go to vegas i probably would also have the money for those blinged out decks
Will magiccon chicago be the same? Is anyone from @MTGGoldfish Podcast coming?
I'm waiting for details, but I would like to go. Chicago isn't that far for me (this is Seth, btw). Unsure about anyone else, I would be surprised if Phil or Richard made it, Crim usually goes to all the MagicCons so I expect he'll be there. Tomer I'm not sure.
If I were to create a card it would be
2 colorless mana 5/1 vanilla creature.
But I originally was thinking nonartifact creature because otherwise affinity would get too powerful.
Black lotus people I believe did have free entry, they just needed to sign up so they would have a person count of how many people actually went.
If your commander is in the graveyard and an opppnent reanimates it, you can send your commander into your command zone right?
53:25 🎉 I heard Rhystic study… and smothering tithe… no ONE RING 💍 talk???? Weird… lol…😊
I am with Tomer, people who are paying to go to magic cons are probably alot more invested in the game then those just showing up to the LGS or playing with their friend group.
Yay!
These guys... have bodies?
54:55 play Nékusaar.
Are any of you guys going to the magic summit in Salt Lake City next month?
I don't think so.
The world needs more Nekusar
Elijah Wood dj's vinyl around town here in Austin quite a bit. He always plays weird stuff though
One time i was out somewhere he was spinning and this drunk couple start getting...wild against the booth and kept making his records skip. He was not pleased haha
1:07 Richard trying his hardest to be a professional while Crim is Crim.
Saff hair style looks so good
I mean the people that can afford tickets to the magic con and a flight probabily have disposable income for flashy powerful cards
Why don't they do Commander Clash Live and Live Goldfish Podcasts at Magic Cons. C'mon WOTC!!
I mean, having "The budget commander" wont help wotc push for expensive products
Do you mean you want WOTC to have Live Commander Clash or you want the MtgGoldfish crew to do a live episode?
Okay one thing I think they fail to realize about MTG Vegas is everyone that goes there for the most part is a high roller when it comes to mtg. If they are spending THOUSANDS of dollars to go to an event they more then likely are willing to put that much into decks. Especially the ones they want to show off.
I think Crim just changed how i feel about losses.
58:04 Tomer is banned from the cast once again, this might turn into a yearly tradition.
ii am shocked that proxis are allowed on a magic convention. Commandfest had an ''official'' ruling that proxies are not allowed. I mean you could use them and nobody would say anything but it was not that open about proxies.
Don't know why yall would be surprised, these MF can afford to pay to go to Vegas. Of course, you will see more expensive cards and no proxies. Lol.
What if the reason they can afford to go to Vegas is because instead of buying cards, they proxy cards? XD
Late game capatlism at its max.
Of course Barney would tell us to eat our vegetables....nice try
Next time I think the go-to podcast seeing arrangement is sitting across from each other. Even tho no one would be facing the camera that's sort of the way ppl do it imo nowadays
It would be an honor to mill out crim
Go figure, people who traveled to an expensive city, for an expensive hobby, to an expensive event, would have expensive cards. Who'd a thunk it.
I'm kind of disappointed that this episode was all about Commander, especially considering that the World Championship was happening at this event, as well as Commander Clash already having an episode about this convention.
aw, everyone got so mad at tomer :(
Seems that EDH is the only thing you play...
Y'all should be sitting around a table, this is toooooooo weird for me
I'll never understand the appeal of commander. It seems to have everything I hate: 3 hour games? People? Yucky. :)
All of you look high af lol
The jetlag was no joke 😅
People who don’t play staples in their decks are just as obnoxious as vegetarians or gym junkies. They just HAVE to find a way to remind you every time they talk. We get it, you’re soooo much better than the rest of us.
tbf, they are a bit better than the rest of us in some regard. having the same 20+ cards in like every single deck is *incredibly* dull in a format which was sort of founded on utilizing underused cards and having casual fun lol it's way more interesting to try to use weird cards where you can and try to help keep commander away from just being standardized...
they probably also remind you for a few reasons - expectation when you're going to play being a huge one, and some pride in having put together something cool I imagine is another one of the big ones... nothin wrong with these things lol let people brag a bit about their weird decks which are never going to average better than your more staple heavy decks.
@@thatepicwizardguy riiiight.. let’s just remind everyone how much better we are all the time lol
And vegetarians and gym junkies are healthy 🤔
We are better
