    I measured the temperature of a lungo right after it was made and my Thermapen MK4 gave a reading of 163F.

    I have this same machine and it has been amazing. I've always cleaned the steam wand when requested, I have de-scaled it with Nespresso de-scaler and I have used Nespresso pods. In the past couple of months, it says "attach steam tip". I have replaced the steam tip with a brand new one and the problem still persists. I have also reset the machine, de-scaled it again (despite it not being due) and still nothing. Has anyone else encountered this issue? TIA

    Nice review, thanks! Just wondering: could the ristretto pour going over 1 oz. be due to the fact that the water did not flow thru coffee grinds - or is the grind so fine that it wouldn't make a difference?

    • @michaelerbreviews
      @michaelerbreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know, I was wondering about that myself. The grounds certainly retain a bit of water but I'm not sure if it's that much. In the end I don't think it makes much difference, it was just something I noticed.

    Good review. How do you find keeping the stainless steel clean, fingerprints etc? Would you with steel again or a different finish? Thank you!

    • @michaelerbreviews
      @michaelerbreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find it pretty easy to keep it clean. I use basic window cleaner sprayed on a microfiber cloth. Simple as that. I also will use a spray-on stainless steel cleaner, but not too often since that one is oil based. But it helps reduce fingerprints. I have no regrets with the stainless steel finish and would order it again if for no other reason than iIt matches the rest of our appliances.

    Just a quick question, let’s say if I want to make a latte, should I use the expresso or the lungo capsules? I know the lungo is a long shot of expresso but I was just wondering which would be better.

    • @michaelerbreviews
      @michaelerbreviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      The machine has a settings panel for each drink you want to make. In the case of Cafe Latte, you can adjust the volume of espresso in 5 levels. You can use either an espresso capsule or a Lungo capsule. If you choose a Lungo capsule, you can then adjust the volume being made to a higher amount to make your Latte stronger. If you just use the default volume, then you can use either capsule but it would not suffer if you just used an espresso capsule since it will be using 1.3oz of water which is just about right.

    Hi Michael, I live in the netherlands and we are looking for a new coffeemachine. Before I want to buy I was looking for reviews for this machine and so I found your film. Wenn I look on the internet there are very different reviews, from good to not good. We were in the UK for holiday and there was the same machine and I fel in love. But, the most important, is it a good machine.I was verry verry happy that I found your film, it was really very clear and interesting.
    Yet the main thing: you told in you film that you have the machine for only a couple of weeks…..so know I am very curious…how is it now with the machine? Does it still work and are you still happy with it?? Because in reviews that are not so positive the problems start mostly after 1 year or 1 1/2 year.
    Sorry for my english, I shall be very happy wenn you will, after all this time, answer this message. Thanks!

    I really dig the novelty and convenience of nespresso machines but I feel the coffee and faux foam they crank out is just terrible compared to what is possible and feel appalled when these pods and machines toss around the "espresso" word. I hope to one day see a pod based machine produce a true steam pressurized 9 bar extraction. Great review and good looking machine

    • @michaelerbreviews
      @michaelerbreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would not say that Nespresso Espresso is just terrible. It's not barista level by any means but it is certainly a palatable espresso requiring a push of a button to make and enjoy. As far as faux crema, crema is produced by the heat and pressure of water moving through the ground coffee thus releasing CO2 causing the formation of "crema." How is this faux crema in the original line Nespresso pods? I feel that the freshness of the coffee is the main detraction to any pod or capsule based machine. You just don't really know how fresh the coffee is. Having said all that, I'd recommend someone look at an Automatic Espresso Machine for a better espresso. You control the freshness of the beans and you still have one-button convenience without any wasteful pods or capsules.

    • @fivestar2227
      @fivestar2227 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelerbreviews Nespresso machines and those expensive bean to cup "espresso" machines use air pumps to inject microbubbles into the brewing water in nespresso's case the nitrogen charge also helps but this is producing nothing more than a standard cup of coffee with a layer of air froth aka faux crema. You could dump a cup of coffee into a blender and get the same result as James Hoffman has shown in his Vertuo review video. In order to get that true golden orangish yellow oily co2 based crema to come out you need to apply 195 degrees and 15 bars (218 psi) of pressure through a compressed puck of very fine coffee grounds and all under 30 seconds hence the name espresso (express press). I cant help but get irritated when these gimmicky coffee machines toss the word espresso around at the end of the day it is false advertising that adds confusion to the consumer coffee world.

    • @michaelerbreviews
      @michaelerbreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@fivestar2227 I've seen Hoffman's Vertuo video but the Vertuo is a different beast than the original line method. And since I am not aware of air pumps injecting air into the brewing water, please provide a link to an authoritative source because if that is true, I"d love to know more about it. As we both know true Espresso as a method of brewing coffee that is defined by a process of forcing hot water under pressure through coffee grounds and if method doesn't adhere to the defined process then it isn't true Espresso. People will differ on what defines a true Espresso but it's a bit easier to spot something that is not true Espresso such as using a Moka pot. A Moka pot does not make Espresso, it makes very strong coffee. In any case please provide some links that explain how Nespresso original line machines inject micro bubbles into the brewing water. I'm very curious.

    Great review. I just got one of these as it makes froth much the same as the coffee shops. Earlier machines did not seem to work as well, nor did my separate milk frother.
    Just wondering: Do you use the lungo capsules when making a lungo or just the normal espresso-size capsules? Do you know what the difference is? Is there more coffee in the lungo?
    Thanks so much!

    • @michaelerbreviews
      @michaelerbreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree. The frothing wand on this machine is far superior to the method used in the Gran Lattissima which is my prior Nespresso machine and is more like the "real deal" of a professional espresso machine.

    • @michaelerbreviews
      @michaelerbreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Regarding the differentiation of the capsules, the amount of coffee in each capsule (ristretto, espresso, lungo) is the same... about 5 g. It's the type of coffee inside that is the main difference. If you tried to make a lungo sized drink from a ristretto or espresso capsule it would probably be weaker since more water is being used to make a lungo. Conversely, if you used a lungo capsule to make a ristretto or espresso, you'd not be realizing the full taste spectrum of the capsule since you are only putting a fraction of the amount of water through it.

    I like his way of explaining everything, smooth and descriptive. However, that was not crema, it's just bubbles/air into your coffee. If you pour your regular coffee in a blender, you'll get the same results and even more foam but not crema.

    • @michaelerbreviews
      @michaelerbreviews  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm going to have to disagree with you on this. Nespresso crema is not as good as a crema developed from a dedicated espresso machine. No arguing that. But crema is the result of hot water being forced through freshly ground coffee which releases oils, fats and carbon dioxide creating this wonderful looking, thick, creamy stuff which rises to the top of the espresso as it is being pulled. Freshly ground coffee, the type of bean, the quality of the grind also influences this. Old beans have lost most of their CO2 so crema won't be developed nearly as much if at all, even in a good espresso machine.
      Now normally a double espresso will be made with roughly 18g of freshly ground coffee. A typical Original Nespresso pod has 1/4 to 1/3 that amount of coffee in it. Additionally that coffee is not freshly ground. We don't really even know how fresh it is other than a Best Buy date which really isn't too helpful. So the resulting Nespresso crema is not as rich and creamy. I'ts lighter in color, not as thick, etc. It is crema, it's just not great crema.

    And I'm very confused, in the previous video about "Gran Lattissima" you sey that you have a problem in the milk (you get water instead milk) and a lot people say me that is a great machine, And on this "CREATISTA PLUS" you sey that is very good, when a lot people complain on low quality machine, and not doing a geat frothed milk..
    So I'm very confuse...
    The problem you was have on the Gran Lattissima it was because you not clean the machine after each use? Or happen in any case even if you clean each time use?

      Don't do it. If you're set on a nespresso machine, this is the one to get if you want milk-based coffee drinks

    Is it possible to steam the milk with the steamer pointed outwards? Or do you HAVE to put it down and let it stay. I've worked as a barista and prefer to hold and tilt it as I want

      It is not intended to be used in that way. There is a temperature sensor that would prevent it from working that way anyway.

      Mine comes out at 155-165 degrees. The second one is always higher temp than the first which makes sense since everything inside is warmed up by the first one.

      @@bobbibryant1977 This machine makes an espresso that you can then use to make other drinks. Adding more water to an espresso makes a Lungo. Making a couple Lungos using a couple pods will make what we Americans would call a cup of coffee. A cup of coffee is usually thought of as 8oz. So no, this machine does not make an 8oz cup of coffee, but it will make Lungo.

    Sounds annoyingly loud!

    • @michaelerbreviews
      @michaelerbreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s typical of machines of this type and not as loud as most. To what are you basing the "annoyingly loud" comment of this?
      Compared to a Drip coffee maker, French Press or Pourover, yes this is louder than that, Compared to an Espresso Machine, Keurig or other Nespresso machine, this is on par or not as loud depending on what you are comparing it to.

    Thank you for the video. I just bought one second hand. The only problem I’m having with it is the drawer popping right out it’s like it’s stuck and when it does slowly come out it only comes out a tiny bit. Have yours t suggestions.
    Thank you and again thank you for the upload and your other video.

      17:12 is when I open the drawer. If your drawer is similar, that's normal.
