When I was growing up, I was a big New Wave fan and then - very suddenly - a big hard rock & heavy metal fan, until I just gave in to eclecticism. One of the bands I listened to most - and still listen to to this day - was Thin Lizzy. Phil is very underrated as a bass player. I’m always impressed by people who can sing over interesting bass lines (like Phil, Geddy, Jack Bruce, Paul McCartney and Tina Weymouth). So glad to hear all your good news, Troy. Keep on keeping on!

Congratulations on getting your mom back home and working out your work schedule. One of the best schedules I ever worked was six hours a day, seven days a week, 6 pm to midnight. It was like having every day off... I got all of my errands done easily during the day when most people were at work. It was a joy. Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak - a great many splendid songs on there... Emerald comes to mind... I'm thinking about doing a cover of that one some day. yada yada yada ...

What? I just bought two more vintage Kodak Zi8's to have as back ups. Actually, this camera does film in 1080p but it tightens the shot, so I'd have to move everything around to reframe it and I'm not doing that.

Life seems to go on, despite our best efforts sometimes. I was able to play with my 3rd great grandson yesterday. He’s such an awesome lil dude already. Life is good and I can see it balanced again. I still have not purchased a Bass, found out 3 days before Christmas I am being sued, so not sure how that will work out. Keep up the good work, I too get along with women better than men, you are not alone. I'm glad you like it. As I may have mentioned, I bought it primarily based on its looks and am happy with how it plays and sounds, for the most part. I hope things go as smoothy as they can with the lawsuit and that it is decided in your favor. Does the entity suing you have to reimburse you for your expenses if he/she/they loses the case? I am being sued for a previous loan that I defaulted on, because I accepted a full time position and was making $8 more from the contract company than the new company would start me at. I called the original lender and they refused to work with me. the loan was written off by the original lender and then the balance was sold to some investment company. My son and I have the same first and last name and they served him with the court summons. I can make a reply but the court requires a $225 fee, which seems strange just to reply to the suit. Still trying to figure out what I will do, praying for guidance. Bummed out about it.
The Hipshot bridge replacement for the Tbird is solid- made all the difference on mine! You should check it out. Great treatment of this classic, Troy!
I did have one put on this bass but, to be honest, the stock bridge was set up great when I got it. And I’m not at all a fan of two or three point bridges.
Whatever it is, you've done a brilliant job to polish the Bass Lines on this classic; of course, full credit to Phil, despite his sloppy ways. However, it does give us a new perspective on these songs and how we looked at it then and how we look at it now ( 40 plus years later ). Phil of course, had a duel role ( if not, a multiple one ) to play; coupled with the pressures of stardom, addiction and all that crap.
Hey Troy. Great to hear your situation from before Xmas has improved, that your mum is doing Ok and that your job situation seems tenable. You can tell in your demeanor. Love this song. Love the song Jailbreak too.
Great playing as always Troy. A deceptively complex arrangement, thanks for opening up the analysis on the isolated bass. I don't believe anyone should take any offence from your observations, they are obviously made with the greatest of respect. I have great admiration for any bass player who can also sing over lines like this live. It's nice to see your work in preparing these videos, this is what I'm like when I'm working on your covers, going over bits, slowing them down, watching and listening. Glad to hear positive news on the domestic front and that life is regaining a better balance for you. Thanks for the words!
Thank you. I agree, there was much more going on than I'd imagined before I sat down to learn it. Absolutely, my comments were made with the highest degree of respect. This was recorded in a different time, where it was about the feel and capturing the best possible take... before click tracks and quantizing every beat/note. I'm often surprised at how "raw" some of the isolated tracks I've listened to sound, especially when they sound like gold within the mix. As I mentioned, some of the live recordings of Phil playing and singing this song actually sound much better. He leaves out some of the subtle nuances in the playing in order to focus on the vocals and it achieves a much tighter sound and feel. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, Andy.

He definitely simplified the bass part in concert and probably sang and played in 2 separate tracks on the recording.

Life seems to go on, despite our best efforts sometimes. I was able to play with my 3rd great grandson yesterday. He’s such an awesome lil dude already. Life is good and I can see it balanced again. Best wishes

I still have not purchased a Bass, found out 3 days before Christmas I am being sued, so not sure how that will work out. I hope things go as smoothy as they can with the lawsuit and that it is decided in your favor. Does the entity suing you have to reimburse you for your expenses if he/she/they loses the case?

I am being sued for a previous loan that I defaulted on, because I accepted a full time position and was making $8 more from the contract company than the new company would start me at. I called the original lender and they refused to work with me. the loan was written off by the original lender and then the balance was sold to some investment company. My son and I have the same first and last name and they served him with the court summons. I can make a reply but the court requires a $225 fee, which seems strange just to reply to the suit. Still trying to figure out what I will do, praying for guidance. Bummed out about it.

I am mailing letters to both the attorney and the courthouse tomorrow, found legal help, see what the response is.

I did have one put on this bass but, to be honest, the stock bridge was set up great when I got it. And I’m not at all a fan of two or three point bridges.

Whatever it is, you've done a brilliant job to polish the Bass Lines on this classic; of course, full credit to Phil, despite his sloppy ways. However, it does give us a new perspective on these songs and how we looked at it then and how we look at it now ( 40 plus years later ). Phil of course, had a duel role ( if not, a multiple one ) to play; coupled with the pressures of stardom, addiction and all that crap.

Nice bass.... in the 1980's I had a Hammer blitz Bass that looked and sounded very similar. It had the old school Seymore Duncan Bassline pickups.

I don't believe anyone should take any offence from your observations, they are obviously made with the greatest of respect. I have great admiration for any bass player who can also sing over lines like this live. Thank you. I agree, there was much more going on than I'd imagined before I sat down to learn it. Absolutely, my comments were made with the highest degree of respect. This was recorded in a different time, where it was about the feel and capturing the best possible take... before click tracks and quantizing every beat/note. I'm often surprised at how "raw" some of the isolated tracks I've listened to sound, especially when they sound like gold within the mix. As I mentioned, some of the live recordings of Phil playing and singing this song actually sound much better. He leaves out some of the subtle nuances in the playing in order to focus on the vocals and it achieves a much tighter sound and feel. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, Andy.
