"Uhhhhh shit i can't do reverse math" "You mean *subtraction* ????????" One of the greatest moments ever, my sides are about to burst from the laughter lol
110 Episodes in and I still LOVE hearing it when Travis thanks and/or compliments Matt for a good game. That is not just friendship, but real respect right there.
Yes, I must say Travis is a DM's perfect player he loves interacting with the world and *never* questions the DM. He's always telling the others, "Don't question God!" XD
@@skullsquad900 I think that this being his first campaign and him stating on talks that he doesnt read the players handbook beyond his character abilities helps with that. Those people that have been playing for a long time and know lore and monsters like the back of their hand that turn out to be rules lawyers seem to be the problem. While Travis is literally in the dark to everything besides his character which aids him in being the player he is.
What I love about this dungeon on a meta level is that it's clearly a reverse dungeon crawl. They fight the boss first, then subsequently find the key that would have unlocked the boss room, then fight progressively easier enemies as they climb further up.
Well the Titan was down for millennia, became a “dungeon,” then got up & walked off. The group should have gone in through the front, not the back door! 🤣
They seem to enjoy themselves so much when they play in that table, everyone close to each other, and Matt standing sometimes giving the true home DM vibe. It feels like they are at home playing. It's awesome to see them in such a good mood. So much love for these guys.

I feel like that would be a lot less effective as slashing damage would be a lot more likely to draw blood for the weapon to drink than the bludgeoning damage a sledge hammer would deal. But I might just be over analysing someone's word play.
Bad Request have.. have you seen the damage a hammer can do? If it's a crow's beak it even has a spike to penetrate armor. Since it's Craven Sledge I assume it's be spiky on the striking face, making drawing blood easy on any matter of enemy
While this was meant as a funny joke. Because craven edge is a magical sentient talking weapon. Basically something close to an artifact I think it could easily change forms depending on what the wielder needed so craven sledge could very much be a point but still mostly doing bludgeoning damage sledge hammer of destruction.
1:10:45 Liam and Travis always have fun messing around out of character and I love it. Travis: We're supposed to go left btw. Liam: Oh that's right Travis: What's right? Both: Left Liam: Right
The world is grey, the mountains old, the forge's fire ashen-cold, no harp is rung, no hammer falls, the Darkness dwells in Durin's halls, a shadow lies upon his tomb, in Moria, in Khazad-dum. But still the sunken stars appear in dark and windless Mirror-mere. There lies his crown, in water deep, 'til Durin wakes again from sleep. I was just getting major Mines of Moria vibes from the whole sequence in the tomb.
This seems to me like one of the most relaxed episodes in a long time. The tensions still there, but I love how it's so much more like a normal D&D session with your mates rather than a tv show.
It's great but the time and effort it takes isn't something they have time to spare for. So I'm often torn here. That being said the stop off to explore should entitle Grog to that time. I'll give him a pass compared to greed.
ScorchHellfire yeah she rlly is fine majority of the time, she really is a strong Druid, any situation is fine because she’s got anything. But still the mess ups wouldn’t make the show the same, it’s a lot more entertaining anyway.
Oh my god I never noticed that. She is great! And you can see Marisha and Taliesin also show they are impressed/amazed at it. Even Sam takes notice. Pretty good for someone who is a lifelong professional voice actor to discover a new vocal talent live for us to see and enjoy! I wouldn't have seen that if you had not mentioned it, Thank you! :D
I keep putting off watching more of this campaign. Whenever I start something long like this, it's new and there's so much to do, but... it's almost over. I know Campaign 2 is on the horizon, and Campaign 3 is taking place even now, but... Vox Machina has my heart. I've laughed, cried, cheered and mourned with them. I've watched with delight as Vex and Percy go from allies to lovers. I've felt the turmoil of Keyleth and Vax's relationship. I've felt and reacted to the drama of this crazy band of lovable idiots as if I'm standing right there with them. I've silently urged our friends through the Underdark, through the Briarwoods, through the conflict against the Chroma Conclave, through the pits of the Hells and now, soon, I'll have to say goodbye. "Everything ends... and it's always sad. But everything begins again, and that's... always happy." -12th Doctor
I've been on this journey since late last year and even though I've stopped so many times because I have to keep up with other things I come back to this no matter what. I can't believe its almost over and still don't know how I'm going to feel about the other campaigns these guys this party are the show and I love these characters like my family🥰
1:45:45 In other news, my favourite sub-plot, Grog Reading, is progressing wonderfully (I do not care if it takes him 5 minutes or 15 minutes, He Is Reading and helping the party by reading! Not that he *needs* to contribute even more than he already does, but he clearly likes it) (and I know Pike can read dwarvish as well and they forgot that and it would've been much faster but lets just say she didn't want to steal his spotlight..)
they really took a short rest while Grog was reading a sentence.. but shit that was *a lot* of long words!! english isn't my first language so idek what "stalwart" means
Some lore says, that this were casters curse by Vecna, so knowing this means that any time your DM throws one of this, you know that Vecna is in the corner. :)
@@alexkerr3868 Divine Smite is alignment-based usually iirc. Not sure about 5e since I haven't played it a lot, but definitely Pathfinder and earlier versions of dnd this is the case.
@@helenslattery4061 i just finished campaign 2 .. i am currently watching the latest episode. gonna feel really weird not watching 2-3 episodes a day…Thursday can’t come soon enough
Y'know, I have watched about half of the one-shots already but because I want as many critical role episodes as I can, I'm gonna watch them all again. ESPECIALLY crash pandas, that episode is the best thing I have ever seen.
I wonder if CritRoleStats has any counters for how many times Liam has descended out of shot after moments of high comedy like Travis's 'I can't do reverse math' at 3:11:14.
So Pike can read dwarf too. I like to think in the cannon of the game she just didn't want to overshadow Grog's new reading ability. She just stood there waiting and watching proudly, knowing all the time exactly what it said.
Matt: "how do i stall these guys so they use up some good spells and let my bad guy get to his destination?" .... .... "I will add trapped empty boxes. that'll get em. "
You'd be amazed how well it actually works on most folks. In one of my games I had a villain's escape tunnel equipped with fake doors and chests that were armed with explosive runes and other nasty traps. The party very nearly TPK'd itself trying to loot the chests, and the villain was successful in escaping. Greed can be wonderfully potent bait when it comes to adventuring parties. ;)
With no annoying creature to lead them, the two halfligs had little chance to get to their destination. But they did, against all odds, and then... Since nobody ripped his finger off, Frodo became a better Sauron than Sauron and killed all things. The End.
More like since nobody ripped his finger off, the Nazgul destroys Frodo and Sauron wins. How the hell a hobbit it's gonna be more powerful than Sauron?
@@Jake007123 The One Ring contains the essence of Sauron and thus can command the Nazgul. Hell it's part of the very nature of the Ring to do that! What it means to be the new Dark Lord is academic. How much of this new being is the weilder and how much Sauron? Though over time Sauron wins out. Something of a much slower process but fairly akin too the biological process of a humanoid becoming an ilithid.
@@MorinehtarTheBlue Frodo had the ring many months already, if not a more than a year. He could no longer resist the temptation, and that's why he didn't destroy it when they were at Mount Doom. Without the final fight with Gollum, Frodo would escape Mount Doom, be inmediately found by the Nazgul, get killed/transformed into a Nazgul, and Sauron would get back in power. This is very obvious, that's why Gollum got saved so many times, so he can be the catalyst for the destruction of the Ring. The book and the movie makes it a point to say so several times. As for the rest people wearing the Ring, who knows. People strong enough would probably resist Sauron for a long time, but the theme is that the Ring (and therefore Sauron) always ends up corrupting the individual to their core.
Matt: "Does anyone speak Dwarven?" The party: Ummmm.... ehhhh........... Grog kind of can? Me, screaming: PIKE. PIKE CAN READ DWARVEN. PIKE CAN DO IT. PIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIKE
Can't wait for Sam's one shot. I kinda hope that all of his player characters have to play different versions of Sam and Sam keeps commenting on how attractive all of them are.
3:38:42 Did anyone catch what Taliesin said? "If you see me topless..."? I can't quite make it out and it sounded funny Edit: Nvm, I got it, he said "If you see me topless, it'll break your camera from how pale I am"
I am very curious to see which of them realizes cell phones have CALCULATORS and if you just punch in the numbers on all your dice rolls, it makes these things incredibly easy. 2 campaigns in, still hasn't happened. And they use DnD Beyond in campaign 2, so it's very impressive nobody's thought of that.
As someone with autism, I despise noise when I’m trying to concentrate. Particularly repetitive or reverberating noise, it always worms into my head no matter what I try.
We have several players with different learning issues. We range from ADD, ADHD, Autism, several with dyslexia, and one hearing impared. It can really be a challenge, but since our players are family, we do what we can. They also range in age from 12 to 68 years old.
This is one of those episodes where you just so appreciate sharing the experience of DnD with CR, because they are so relaxed and everyone is obviously having a good time. It's just a good old dungeon crawl.
vm get told vecna will be near unkillable if he reaches his full potential, which requires a massive act of power. See that he's awoken a giant titan and are marching it towards the oldest city in exandria. Then begin a slow dungeon crawl not leaving any stone unturned and burn a heap of spell slots on their way up the titan.
Sam changing the message under his mug from "Obby shot first" to "Vax shot first" during the break after Vax one-hit killed the Nothic (I presume???). Stroke of genius.
29:00 Vex: "Scanlin, you know your way around dudes anatomy right? What if we had Grog rage on it's prostate, we could probably bring it to it's knees" ... missed opportunities...
If it's an Adamantine Hammer, then RAW (Xanathar's Guide) states every hit with it's a critical. Even if it's not a legendary, adding in the +3 still makes it a formidable weapon.
Keyleth is the embodiment of a "hit or miss" character. She often does a lot of cringey and stupid stuff but when she gets it right she's a real life-saver.
@@Crawler778 100% Agree. Most of the time I'm incredibly frustrated by her actions and cringy RP, but every once in awhile she knocks it out of the park.
Cameron Neveu oh you can't catch up unless you pay for alpha, as alpha has the next three weeks of episodes on it, meaning we're always 4 weeks behind the show
I love how Grog is the tank and takes everyone's damage, including from himself so that they can make a definitive move. i.e. when Keyleth asked if she could fire a fireball at the enemies and encapsulate Grog, Travis was like I'm all good. Such a great player
That moment that you realize that the Dwarven Adamantine Warhammer is a method devised by Matt to drain ONLY Grog's resources, without risking a TPK to the rest of the party. Grog needs to feel the squeeze too, and this way its not because of a dangerous monster that might kill the rest of the party, but only to him.

Little known Critical Role Lore fact: Nott and Jester are really into roleplaying. Sometimes they sit down and disguise themselves as some nerdy as voice actors who play dungeons and dragons.
It's because of his approach to the game. He literally does not care if his character lives or dies. He's just basically "I want to see ALL the crazy shit Matt put in this game!"

I love how Liam just annihilated the next Clarota in one dagger. Then I love how 4 characters with fire damage fail to do absolutely anything with it for multiple rounds against trolls, undead trolls no less. Pike had the dawnmartyr plate which should have dropped fire damage back on any melee attack. I know I'm way late here, but dang, guys
Yeah that was nuts to me how they didn't immediately burn the trolls, especially Marisha with flame hands and Liam with flametongue dagger, that takes no resources Which reminded me that I have no idea what the casters have for cantrips; I don't think I have ever seen Scanlan use an attack cantrip.
If their final battle isn’t mirrored by Grog throwing down with the titan after the titanstone knuckles turn him hundreds of feet tall I will be very disappointed
I had a flash of this cinematic moment. Vassleheim is under siege, the titan is approaching the city. Back to Vox Machina finding the place where the heart of the Titan used to rest. Grog is pulled into the air and begins to glow as his sight suddenly shifts to the eyes of the Titan. The Titan is partially revived and Grog is controlling its body. Grog, as the titan throws Thar Imfala(sp?) To the ground and begins to pummel it while shouting, "STRONGJAW!!!" Cut back to the battle at Vassleheim and the entire council looks on in baffled horror and amusement. "Vox Machina..." one of them whispers.
@@cassandragidney7682 "Grog, as you approach you feel the vibration in the gauntlets start to flair, booooommmmmm flair booooooooooommmmmm flair with each step of the titan you feel the gauntlets flair and they start to glow every step stronger than the last, you feel it get stronger and stronger as you move until the light is illuminating the path flaring with every earthshaking step, you enter and feel the gauntlets start to rise and you with the blood of giants the long descendants of the Titans, start to rise with them, every step they flair till it's almost blinding and the vibration grows ever stronger, you float up to the middle of the room, booooommmmmm flair. Booooooooooommmmmm flair. Boooooooommmmm and instead of a flair you're vision goes dark, everyone around you sees your eyes goes white and your veins surge with strength bulging out, your eyes open, but your not looking upon the cavern, you see far far below, Vasselheim, under siege, and you feel the steps booooooooooommmmmm but the vibrations once emanating from your gauntlets now travels up your leg, you feel the ground below gently snow touched now covered in blood you feel your arms swinging through the air beside you but now there's another pair,, you feel the city upon your back and inside you feel one immensely tiny point of energy, you recognize this feeling, this is a god, an ancient hatred burns inside you long dormant now burns like lava boiling to the surface, you feel the immensity of a gods power this usurper dares challenge your people's claim to the cosmos and now has the gall to use you like a pet, you WONT! stand for it, it may be a god, but you are the mountains. What do you do?"
I love when Sam created Scanlan and asked "Do Bards need to sing to give inspiration?" And Liam and Matt were basically like "Now they do!" ...So much gold from Scanlan. All the C1 characters are kinda archtypes/tropes, but Scanlan is still one hell of a bard!
@@GrayEmbry That's my point. Regurlarly rolling 10 or so higher than the "nearly impossible" DC level is basically getting into the area of doing the impossible. Impossible even for exceptional people, which just goes to show that these people are beyond exceptional. And thus, what would be impossible feats for merely above average mortals become just difficult for them. Hence why I pointed out him being "fate-touched." Because it's that higher level of extraordinary-ness that enables him to go well beyond nearly impossible and do what is effectively impossible for the vast majority of people, even really skilled ones. It actually lends some justification to Keyleth's hubris that led to the goldfish incident. :P
I did 46 yesterday on a History check. Competency in a skill with an Intelligence of 22 -> + 16 to roll. Advantage on a roll from an item and Eidetic Memory spell which gives +10 more. So nat 20 + 16 + 10. Crazy things are possible in DnD if you put everything into one thing
I ordered the first two series of VM's backstory comics, like, literally yesterday and if Amazon isn't lying it'll be here in 3 days and I'm so unreasonably exited, it's not even funny. My mom is into CR too and I'm gonna surprise her with it and I can't wait.
A nice reminder in this one that Percival is an extraordinary human being, but still a human being who's greatest strength is in his tools. Basically Percy is Batman.
>rich family killed >lots of tech with his tinkering tools >lead a city outside of adventuring, was once an adventuring hub >has a hot wife living on golden greed
Well, his tools and his brain, but yeah. Percy's always struck me as a cross between Batman and The Doctor. Batman's backstory with the personality of a young Doctor. His TLOVM design even looks like the Tenth Doctor. On the Batman note, with as much as he uses those Spider Climb boots to get elevated perches, I'm surprised he hasn't tinkered some kind of grapple-hook device to pair with them for quick, safe descents. There've been a few situations where one would have been useful.

He’s the guy who thanks the bus driver when he gets to his stop.
@@gunnerbradley5282 I do that too, it's just good manners

But what if the warhammer is actually Craven Sledge
Oh this is beautiful
I feel like that would be a lot less effective as slashing damage would be a lot more likely to draw blood for the weapon to drink than the bludgeoning damage a sledge hammer would deal. But I might just be over analysing someone's word play.
Bad Request have.. have you seen the damage a hammer can do? If it's a crow's beak it even has a spike to penetrate armor. Since it's Craven Sledge I assume it's be spiky on the striking face, making drawing blood easy on any matter of enemy
Why simply draw blood, when you could splatter it everywhere? Also someone get Milo a cookie, that was well played
While this was meant as a funny joke. Because craven edge is a magical sentient talking weapon. Basically something close to an artifact I think it could easily change forms depending on what the wielder needed so craven sledge could very much be a point but still mostly doing bludgeoning damage sledge hammer of destruction.

There is no pity on this earth that could stay Vax's hand.

Was about to say that it was really really useful and that you're just biased against her then saw you said RAD not bad
I am in fact biased against Keyleth but that moment had me like NICE!
@@MacroAggressor For me a prime example of this is when she went earth elemental then dive bombed the ship.
the coolest and most out of place dungeon crawl ever
Whoa, they edited out the break. That's new...
you'd think they would have thought of that sooner honestly, but Im not mad
I trying to catch up before the next episode (in 45 minutes) I was thinking i could skip the break but no break...
They've had that implemented for a while on Project Alpha, Glad they decided to do the same on here
Cameron Neveu oh you can't catch up unless you pay for alpha, as alpha has the next three weeks of episodes on it, meaning we're always 4 weeks behind the show
honorvirus You can catch up on the G&S website, or on TH-cam through a playlist made by a guy called 'Lotus'.
This is so weird... 5 episodes and I'll have finished campaign 1. It sure was a hell of a ride
Only 5!? Cool almost there.
Travis laughing so hard at the flee market comment that you know it's happened in real life!!
3:10:50 Real life Travis as Grog..."I cannot do reverse math". Real life Sam as Scanlan: "So you mean subtraction?!"
Tarry wanted to do a dungeon crawl.
Why did this make me sad?
hell is kind of a dungeon crawl?
Hell is the ultimate dungeon crawl.
No, the ultimate dungeon crawl is a crawl through a literal dungeon in hell.
Which he did!
He most definitely did a dungeon crawl in Hell. Still waiting for that double cross he wanted to do...
Sam’s “I’ll just shelter in place” line hits different during quarantine 2020 😂😂
Right???
I was thinking the same thing... 😂
I knew somebody was gonna catch that...
JUST watched this week's campaign 2 video this morning, and at that comment I got lost for a sec and had to remember which campaign I was watching
when i heard it and the subsequent giggles, i was like... have i really been in quarantine for years?
I love how Grog is the tank and takes everyone's damage, including from himself so that they can make a definitive move. i.e. when Keyleth asked if she could fire a fireball at the enemies and encapsulate Grog, Travis was like I'm all good. Such a great player
Just dawned on me that Dani Carr went from OG Critter and giveaway winner to house sitting for Matt and Marisha in 2 years.
YES! FINALLY SOMEONE NOTICES!!! THANK YOU!!! :)
She’s also the Critter Liam wants to keep in the 826 LA video they made.

From the description, it appears to have been a Nothic. I can't say he made the wrong call.
The sleep deprivation is strong with the cast in this episode and it’s hilarious
Poor Matt. This episode is herding cats...drunk cats.
To quote campaign II: “it’s absolute fucking chaos„ and I love it
welcome to every session of DnD I DM lol, and I love it.
This is literally every episode, and it's awesome
At least they weren't as drunk as they were in the kraken fight
I knew there was something extra annoying about this episode. I just couldn’t place it
Last couple of episodes Travis' been taking a much more active role when it comes to making decisions. He's mostly done it in character, but 2:18:06?... Aye aye Captain! Grog, your Fjord is showing lol
I think he knows that if he left the group to try, they would take close to 5 sessions to even get close to where they are
2:43:50 Sam uses Nott's voice before she even exists
He's actually done it before, I just don't remember the episode
Laura does the jester voice fairly often
Sam and Laura have been jester and nott for years now, they just didn't know.
Little known Critical Role Lore fact:
Nott and Jester are really into roleplaying. Sometimes they sit down and disguise themselves as some nerdy as voice actors who play dungeons and dragons.
Sam makes play a bard so awesome and intimidating at the same time.
I love how Travis is about it, like idc if this item might be fucking crazy I want to try it. Its great, I love when he gets a hold of items.
It's because of his approach to the game. He literally does not care if his character lives or dies. He's just basically "I want to see ALL the crazy shit Matt put in this game!"
Man, "rocks fall, everybody dies" sure is a valid threat and possibility this episode, isn't it? XD

The backdrop lanterns give Sam cat ears. That is all.
Ahaha, I noticed the same on Liam some episodes ago :D
Good eye my dude.
Yeah critrole tends to forget equipment effects. Like how whisper’s fear effect has not even been mentioned outside of the first time.
@@364dragonrider wow! I completely forgot about that!
@@364dragonrider To be fair, most enemies in D&D are immune to fear effects.

Seriously, Grog and cursed items...
27:24 I love when Travis' real intelligence leaks through Grog. We all know Grog doesn't know what "thousands" means
Grog, as the titan throws Thar Imfala(sp?) To the ground and begins to pummel it while shouting, "STRONGJAW!!!"
Cut back to the battle at Vassleheim and the entire council looks on in baffled horror and amusement. "Vox Machina..." one of them whispers.

Sam Riegel is why I keep coming back to this show.
2:01:44 a DC of 30 is Nearly Impossible. So, basically Vax just did the impossible. Fate-touched, indeed. xD
People seem to forget Vex did the same thing with Ioun
Nearly impossible != impossible. Also, it might be nearly impossible for most people, but some of these characters are rolling 40+ semi-consistently.
Vax- eh half of a book on a humanoid I just killed, whatever.
Caleb- "I will cherish this knowledge and get another holster to cradle it's words"

A nice reminder in this one that Percival is an extraordinary human being, but still a human being who's greatest strength is in his tools. Basically Percy is Batman.
>rich family killed
>lots of tech with his tinkering tools
>lead a city outside of adventuring, was once an adventuring hub
>has a hot wife living on golden greed
Well, his tools and his brain, but yeah. Percy's always struck me as a cross between Batman and The Doctor. Batman's backstory with the personality of a young Doctor. His TLOVM design even looks like the Tenth Doctor.
On the Batman note, with as much as he uses those Spider Climb boots to get elevated perches, I'm surprised he hasn't tinkered some kind of grapple-hook device to pair with them for quick, safe descents. There've been a few situations where one would have been useful.
From the beginning of the campaign their short rest went from 1 hour as per RAW to 45 minutes, to 30 minutes to 20-15 minutes xD
Grog reads so much in this episode, it's really funny
The most incredible thing about Critical Role is that Matt can withstand his urge to talk about Akira every once in a while. Hombre loves that movie.
