Everytime grog has grabbed Pike, I imagine him running by her, as she is running, grabbing her by the collar and lifting her, and as grog runs, pike keeps running in the air, moving those little feet as fast as she can
Okay, but consider: he picks up Pike as they're running and then tucks her under his arm like a football, occasionally using her as a gnome battering ram since she has that awesome mace.
@@BornAScout But wait. What if he just throws her on his shoulders and then she could just dump healing into Grog TF2 style? EDIT: Percy should just put straps on Pikes armor and Grog can wear her like a backpack!
46:10 Sam's mug has the 'boyfriend looking at other girl' meme. The girlfriend is 'People of Vasselheim', looking judgily at the boyfriend, labeled 'Vox Machina', who is checking out the other girl, labeled 'long rest'.
Vax: “I’m not that stealthy.” I mean technically the party should believe this… The party has only ever seen his failed stealths. Every successful roll has entirely removed him from history. 😂
C2 spoilers I mean in fairness it was an accident, he was minding his business, trying to make a nice little warlock then all of a sudden a cleric spell shot out of her and Artie was like... Wtf?
When as a DM you know at least three bards that just polymorphed pigs into winged pigs so they could convince some powerful royalty to surrender their kingdoms because they said they'd do it when "pigs fly". Credit to the one bard who did it for the sake of taking over the kingdom for herself, rather than the other two who did it for some other ruler so it would prevent or end a war.
honestly with 20charisma a bard with expertise can get a +17 to persuasion considering a 30 is considerd nearly impossible pretty easy to get that jeah XD
One of the reasons bards have a stereotypical reputation for seducing Dragons and Big Bads is because they actually have the buffs needed to clear all the ridiculous skill checks necessary to do such a thing
I really love how scanlan was flippant and glib all throughout all the negotiation with artagan but then as soon as the others left turned serious and compassionate and ultimately couldn't watch. That was a really nice touch.
I mean at an int of 15 she beats out pike and vex and grog and beats out scanalin up through lvl 17 only Percy and Vax (by one point) are a higher int So she shouldn't be that "dumb"
Stats should never determine personality, they are for mechanical purposes. Unless of course you really want them to if they’re exceptionally low or high, but even Grog-tier intelligence shouldn’t pigeonhole your character into a room temperature IQ. Same with any other stats.
@@brilobox2 Yes but they should be used as guidelines. DM shouldn't allow an int 18/wis 16 character that speaks in "me hit baddie with stik" sentences.
Started playimg DND recently, before watching CR (it's been a hell of a binge) and had no idea what I was doing regarding stat attribution. My intelligence is pretty good, but my wisdom is awful and, due to my inexperience, I made some hilariously bad decisions in my first few sessions. Enough that my catchphrase became, "I'm smart, not wise. There's a difference." I felt very seen when Keylith said that.
Bro this whole episode im just wondering how they are gonna get a long rest in before the fight, cause if they dont they are so dead ajd then they came up with this GENIUS idea. Almost makes up for the 20min of "planning"
@@joes6507 I don't think they talked before the episode. There was no way to predict how many enemies they would encounter on their way to Vecna and how many spells and abilities each of them would spend.
I love that whenever they were holding hands to planeshift, Ashley was holding her hands up to the camera to join in Idk it was just wholesome. Love her. Love all of them.
I will say though: when Vax was getting strangled, didn’t they establish earlier in that Vax didn’t need to breathe? Like when they were going to the Anvil?
I just realized something when Matt said "Always Grog with the intelligent weapons"... That sword, as well as Craven's Edge, are both probably smarter than Grog. So two SWORDS are probably smarter than Grog. Poor, dumb goliath...I love it.
Omg I never realised the sad reality of Grogs weapon collection, now I'm glad he has that endless Jug it makes up for when his weapons are mean to him he can console himself with a drink, pour oil on the weapons an threaten to set them on fire😂❤
Matt was describing the sound of the orb moving past the stealthed group and just as he started, a lawn mower went by my window and ended with him as well lmfao
@@jefferyoneill1 guess that's why he wanted that threshold crest. For a moment I entertained the idea that he becomes the traveler in the next campaign. I haven't actually started it SO NO SPOILERS PLEASE. A video about Jester was simply my introduction to Critical Role for which I'm super grateful so it's just a wild speculation. Would be cool though.
They came up with so many plans that have holes in them as they fail to cover angles. Etherealness, for example, which shunts you out of physical objects with a penalty of force damage and that's before getting the lay of the land. Where's the nearest open space? They sure as hell didn't know. Then the teleportation orb and earth glide combo. Except it has the same problem as the sword they're trying to retrieve. You could get around that by merging it into Keyleth's earth elemental form but then she wouldn't have been able to activate it. Both things might have worked but they'd have relied on the pocket that they didn't know was there. Frustrating discussion from start to finish. TTRPGs are rife with analysis paralysis and imperfect solutions but that was hard to watch. Sorry for shanghaing your comment to vent and rant but ugh!
@@MorinehtarTheBlue Yeah, but they don't really enjoy playing by the rules as they enjoy having fun more. Their plans had holes but atleast they were creative about it.
This discussion is rough to watch. First they didn't inform Sam of an actual plan with the annihilation orb. He's very random on his actions unless told specifically what to do. And when given something by a DM it's a clue your supposed to use it. But every option they had in mind was being 60 feet away but they kept the stay within 60 feet through the entire time.
Exactly. People complain all the time about how they never have plans etc, but like Travis pointed out here, usually when they do have a plan it never matters as it always goes wrong lol.
I like that with everyone frazzled over Vax's weird death Tal still had the presence of mind to ask "Was this food offered freely?" Fey are not cute fairies, you don't eat or drink anything unless they give it to you free of charge.
@@Smooth.Operator. I have no idea if it's a reference, I just really love Tal's delivery. He's goofing with one of his best friends, it's a nonsense line but perfectly Percy. And howdy, Pullout King!
Vecna to Vax: "Ah, I can see you now! Tell me where your friends are!!!" Vax IMMEDIATELY after: "Keyleth, stay underground! Vex went to the ethereal plane and is near you. I'm going to head back to where all the others are hidden!!!" Lesson: Don't hire Liam as a partner in an actual heist - He'd call the cops and tell them everything while thinking he's helping.
To be fair, should Vecna really be able to locate Vax when he is rolling 40 on stealth. With this kind of stealth, forget sensing, Vax would still be invisible standing out in the open in front of the actual body.
@@Ailieorz In previous episodes, the ruling on this was they had to be verbalize to be able to use the earrings. They were essentially walkie-talkies. I guess Matt either changed his mind or let it slide in this episode.

Been bingeing these, and can only think of how funny having Grog with both Craven Edge and Kas. That would have been hilarious to watch two swords argue over his negative intelligence

Was never stated that he did scry into the mansion. He knew of Vax's location, and was able to get a general location of where Vax 'disappeared' due to entering the Mansion. Same with when Keyleth last entered. All that was left was to instruct Delilah and Sylas to go out and deal with the matter. I imagine with detect magic, that's how Delilah was able to pinpoint the Mansion. 3:03:50 Matt is likely rolling for if the searching yields results, as just after that calculation he dispels the Mansion. @@slackerhobo

Ethereal Plane is a different plane and can't be scried into from the Prime, much like the mansion. Liam had the right plan all along. Admittedly I haven't seen how this turns out yet, but I'm guessing he was pretty spot on with the assumption that the sword probably wasn't buried too deeply and you could pop out of the Ethereal into a safe-ish place and just dig a few feet to retrieve the sword. Would have been satisfying to see the oil of etherealness being put to such smart and effective use.
@2:26:08, last time Key'leth and Vexhalia separated from the rest of the group they allied themselves with a Mindflayer, this time they're searching for an ancient sword last wielded by a Vampire Lord who cut off the Hand and removed the Eye of Vecna. Yeah, this'll go well :)
I will forever love Vax's stupidly high Stealth checks and the ensuing snarky comments are always so damn funny. Also, I love when they get meta with improvisational acting references. Sam does it the most. His "Nice object work" comments crack me up. There was one in - I think - Heredity and Hats, and "strong character choices, stick with them 100%" was the one from this episode. It's a joke that I know is meant to entertain his co-stars, but they are so great for those of us who do improv as a hobby.
When Sam transformed Scalan into the dead robed guy, he starts to limp. And comments something like "make strong choices and commit" I feel like he would be a wealth of knowledge to work along side with.
Vax? Who's Vax? Oh, you must mean Vex. Yeah, she's pretty stealthy now. I think she's a twin, but I don't think we've ever seen him/her on the show........

*SPOILERS FOR THE EPISODE* Imagine Vax trying to explain to the Raven Queen why he just died. "Oh yeah, this fey guy wanted to choke me until I died as part of this thing..."
The end of the episode may be one of the darkest and weirdest things I've seen in D&D and I've sat through all of Liam's One-Shots! So that's saying something.
Too many items. He has the Gauntlets, a weapon, and the belt of dwarven kind. Unless I recall incorrectly, Matt only lets them have 3 magical items. Now...Liam might fudge that a little bit, since he's got a belt, the armour, the boots, and three magic daggers.
I always wondered how Vax got around that. But yeah, Grog would have to unattune to something. And I know Travis is not going to lose that beard, so the belt is probably out of the question. Did he have to attune to the Boots of Feral leaping?
PaxIesus Not all magic items require attunement. While Vax does possess a lot of magic items, they are minor magic items that don't require attunement, like his belt Simon. Also the boots of feral leaping don't require attunement.
SPOILER ALERT. Travis hiding his head inside his shirt saying "I'll be in here." Travis muttering "Say it. Say it!" to Matt as they all hold their breath. Laura with her hand on Travis' cheek. ALL WAITING... BAMF! They all scream, laugh & pass out. LOL! I love Critical Role.
I fucking LOVE that Matt decided to show us the more macabre side of Artagan in this episode, doubly so at the rest of the group's reaction to it :D. Everyone always has these fanciful ideas about fae and faeries, believing them to be the cutesy, happy, good creatures of Disney and the like. Far from it, the Fair Folk are *fucking terrifying.* They're not called "the Fair Folk" just because they're beautiful or because they're decent entities, they're called that because you want to placate them by giving them a nice, flattering title so that they don't... I dunno, replace your baby with a changeling, blight your lands and make your cattle either barren or give birth to mutilated offspring, make you dance until your feet bleed, turn you into a tree with your mind still intact? And even the ones who help you will do so in an ill-defined way. Like genies, they're really good at twisting words and telling half-truths, just like Percival said. Are you barren and want a child? They'll give you one, but you didn't specify that it had to be alive or human, and now you're in-debted to them. Want to spin straw into gold? Sure, but they'll ask for your firstborn as payment. Taken as their lover of your own accord? Make sure that you served their every whim right when they ask without a second's hesitation or they'll take that as disobedience, kill you, and then go right onto the next lover, not even remembering you. The whims of a fae are as ever-shifting as the seasons, and Artagan is no exception.
IAMTHENATEHAWK Actually, the dancing was done at the last campsite of Sorudun the Happy. The Theatre is what Keyleth, Vex, Vax, Pike, and Tary all went to see during the course of the one year timeskip. Which could've ended very badly, as Percy explained they'd managed to witness a performance by the Royal Troupe of the Unseelie Court, and if they'd been caught, they might've never been heard from again.
... add to it the camera-man choosing the right moment to zoom in on Matt's face (namely just after saying that Artagan wanted to strangle Vax to death), high-lighting the sinister facial expression that Matt had just added to the awesomeness of this interaction!
crazytaru, No problem ^_^. The Fey are one of my favorite fantasy species/races, to be honest. So alien and unsettling, yet oddly jovial and fun. Not gods yet not mortal, neither evil nor good but more forces of nature after a fasion. They're just so incredibly intriguing for some strange reason. Another tabletop RPG you might want to check out for more of the darker sides of the Fae is *Changeling: The Lost* by Onxy Path/White Wolf Publishing, which deals with the titular characters- i.e. changelings, humans that were kidnapped by a True Fae and taken to their realm in Arcadia- and how they adapt after having escaped from their imprisonment and what living in that entity's world and being warped by their whims for so long has done to them, both physically and mentally.

Would Vax have actually died from that? I was under the impression he didn't need to breath anymore, so shouldn't he have just been standing there with an awkward silence while being choked to no real effect?
Still he should've detailed it a bit more in my opinion. Not needing to breathe means he doesn't need oxygen, so even the loss of bloodflow to the brain would not affect him, how did any of the players not notice that??? o.O
The Voracity I think it was more of a voluntary thing. Due to the whole "I'll sacrifice myself" thing the Raven Queen made his body able to be affected by that so he could further their objective of defeating Vecna. That was my take on it anyway.
@@TheFleeingPhoenix but why? It's to get oxygen to it. So if your brain(and the rest of your body) doesn't need oxygen, blood doesnt technically have to get there.
I remember him being fairly confident at that time he became a triceratops and thrashed that one building by himself, set the place on fire, fleed onto the rooftop and jumped out of the building with the assistance of Bigby's Hand before fleeing.

They come up with an astounding number of plans that involve being more than 60 feet away from Vex's magic ring

(While Talesin enjoys snacks)
I noticed he didn't physically act out the strangling.... maybe feeling a little discomfort with role-playing that one, can't blame him
He just got shy, he was into it until the players started to talk about it.
Liam's character makes me nuts. A few times since episode 103, you can see friction blooming between them as player and DM.
@@mattlowderMaybe you can, I don't.
@@mattlowder yea I don't see it either. If anything Matt has been more Impatient with all the players in general. Probably eager to move on to the next campaign. I can't blame him. At this point the characters are so God tier the odds have to be stacked impossibly high against them.

Ive lost the ability to discern whether that's Liam playing Vax or just Liam being Liam, but maybe also at this point he doesnt know either, but he's been thinking solely about his own feelings for too many episodes now 🤦♀️🤦♀️
I feel really bad for Trinket at this point. He spends at least half his life in an empty stone room looking out a window alone. Free Trinket!
The way those magical items normal work is there's no conciousness inside it. Basically it's like death till you're summoned, that's always depressed me cause things summoned that way would go from fight to fight instantly from their perspective
@@jmarriottc But what about when Grog was inside it during the battle royale? He was able to smash his way out of it.
@@jmarriottc Vex makes a point to keep him out during downtimes, and even out in the open sometimes. I think my favorite part of this is watching Matt as they're all talking about how to get the sword, and NONE OF THEM REMEMBERING THEY HAVE TO BE 60 FEET OF THE RING
Didn't they have that conversation twice? And then Vex blinked out and left the plane with the ring anyways
@@jordanwolfe607 oh lord I just got to that part... Vex literally left Keyleth and Vax vulnerable after all that discussion... xD

Oh man, I play a level 13 Barbarian. And with haste, it is insane! I totally wish I could see Grog hasted. That would be awesome!
Marcelino Ceniceros grog should honestly have the boots of haste, he would get the most use out of it
Too many items.
I'm pretty sure he didn't have to attune the Boots of Feral Leaping, which was why Grog was so excited about them...but I don't recall.
PaxIesus Not all magic items require attunement. While Vax does possess a lot of magic items, they are minor magic items that don't require attunement, like his belt Simon. Also the boots of feral leaping don't require attunement.

@@AnniesMelody Thank you for the timestamp.
Major Shirow "make you dance until your feet bleed" is very relevant to their previous adventures in the feywild
Stay away from the theatre
This episode and especially this comment have made rethink some aspects of my own games. Thanks for the perceptive.
crazytaru, No problem ^_^.

No matter how many times I watch I'm always astounded at the fact I just watch basically 3 hours of talking about doing stuff without thinking about it. Crazy
It is so easy to notice even though she is on a cam that Ashley really wants to be there with everybody.
4:02:00 when Marisha forgot that speaking to the internet is like making a deal with a creature from the Feywild.
Holy shit! LMAO When Travis whispered back to the blade I cried laughing, this was one of my favorite episodes of Grog! xD
Matt looks like Boromir...
"One does not simply walk into Thomara"
and we all know how that went down :/
You
Nairo Camilo Can't even begin to tell you how much he looks nothing like Sean Bean.
As a Latin American saying goes, "they look alike, in the white of their eyes and the black of their asscracks." That's all that's similar there.
Chancellor Paulpatine Ok.

Sam reminding me again that these people are fans. The Explorer reveal to Liam and Sam from Tal last episode was so much love of pop culture and sci fi.
The picture on the bottoms of Sam's tankard though.
Spoiler:
Love how they are using Feywild as their safe haven, when going back and forth can severely shift time so that they come back at a WAY different time.
It's like the top 10 worst options.
When you have an Archfey ally that can control the altered time, it is no longer a stupid idea. This was a clutch move on their end. Big brain time!
Would Vax have actually died from that? I was under the impression he didn't need to breath anymore, so shouldn't he have just been standing there with an awkward silence while being choked to no real effect?
The Voracity that is an arch fay he could of broke his neck
Still he should've detailed it a bit more in my opinion. Not needing to breathe means he doesn't need oxygen, so even the loss of bloodflow to the brain would not affect him, how did any of the players not notice that??? o.O
The Voracity I think it was more of a voluntary thing. Due to the whole "I'll sacrifice myself" thing the Raven Queen made his body able to be affected by that so he could further their objective of defeating Vecna. That was my take on it anyway.
blood needs to travel to your brain. Dingus.
@@TheFleeingPhoenix but why? It's to get oxygen to it. So if your brain(and the rest of your body) doesn't need oxygen, blood doesnt technically have to get there.
It’s going to be an absolutely wild ride to hear Billy Boyd to be Garmelie in the animated series!
gonna be even wilder watching the choke out animated 😂
WHAT THATLL BE SO COOL
Commenting before the actual event, I really want the Raven Queen to yell at him for abusing the gift in such a weird way. lol
It's not abuse if they get a good deal in return I guess hahaha
Sam says "This is going to be terrible," then proceeds to KILL ITI wonder what something he thinks is going to be GOOD sounds like
+Jake Harris It would be a masterpiece!!! 😉
I remember him being fairly confident at that time he became a triceratops and thrashed that one building by himself, set the place on fire, fleed onto the rooftop and jumped out of the building with the assistance of Bigby's Hand before fleeing. So I suppose you could say, when he's confident, he sees a plan to perfect completion? Which is pretty amazing for D&D. lol
@@GeeGe. you forgot the "throwing a Goliath from the building" part

Bloody hell, that zoom into Matt's face on strangling scene. :D Soo creepy and soo much fun. :D
