I was surprised to see that it was Harmony Dust Grillo in the video. I was a big fan of her ex-husband’s work in high school and college and had never heard her testimony before. What a great way to take negative life experiences as an inspiration to help others.
The fact that you went through everything that you did, you still have so much confidence and respect when you speak. You are a great role model of how to overcome even the toughest situations that tried to break you. Some people can never move on in life and waste it all away. Because of your story I will try to live every day as if theres no tomorrow
I wish I could hug her 13 year old self. Thank you for letting me see your side of things because me like many others only judge girls like you. Not anymore. Thank you for sharing your story!
Some women strip because they want to earn some extra money and take care of themselves. Some women strip because they have no other choice. No matter what the situation is,we are not in the position to judge sex workers because of their profession.
Catherine Garavito I totally agree with you, "liberal" feminists always come with that phrase, and they don't think about the real problem... *Why a women should be exposing herself like a piece of meat for men's entertainment? That's totally sad and wrong.*
Lidya Wayne but strippers legit don't make that much cash sorry to burst your bubble but...this would pretty much ruin your own reputation and future generations
A you say sex work is wrong but I bet you 20 bucks you watch porn. Its not wrong. Its a way of making money. Maybe some women like the attention. Maybe others just need the quick cash. You have to seriously respect your body if youre going to work in a field where you are constantly naked or near naked. I guess we gotta shame people who model for artists too, then. They have no shame! Undressing so people can get in basic anatomy drawing! No respect!
I'm proud of you for getting yourself out of such a hurtful existence. You must be so strong to have gone through what you have and now you're helping others. Did you ever speak to your mother again? Did she ever get clean? I can't believe nobody helped you and your brother. Are you and your brother close? Do you have a youtube channel? It seems like your name finally matches your life. Good for you :)
My mom and I are still in touch. I have forgiven her. My brother is doing great! We are still close. And you can check out our youtube channel at th-cam.com/users/treasuresxgirls :)
I’m sorry for what you went through💔 I’ve had a hard life too and I’m working on leaving. I suffer from depression, I’m very broken. You’re story is inspiring☀️
Voices like this get buried under the louder and more privileged voices of 'sex work is SO empowering'. That's not the reality for most women. Thank you for this video. Moving and so necessary
Exactly, it's infuriating. If a woman likes her work, that's great! But they act like a woman sharing her story of abuse is an offense to them, and kind of illustrates how blinded they are by their own privilege.
That's because sex work that you're forced into, metaphorically or physically, isn't sex work. It's sex trafficking. Don't speak for us. - a sex worker
Rips and Rants Sex trafficking is horrible- forced sex work like she went through is HORRID. Sex work when it’s voluntary like it is/was for you is just trashy, immoral, and idiotic.
Rips and Rants - You can't be metaphorically forced into sex work. You can choose to go into it out of circumstances or out of your own occupational fulfillment. But videos like these allow us to see a fuller picture of the sex industry. You might not have a broken background as she does, but many women in the sex industry do. It shouldn't be a glorified option because it lends these women to being further abused, emotionally and physically.
Am I the only one shook at buzzfeed publishing a video with someone giving so much credit to God or??? I mean, not to make it about me but thank you for the representation lol. Also SUCH a good and timely video.
dont troll buzzfeed for the content they post.. really. i get why people do that but, just stop and take a look at content like this and just forget about the rest. Mad respect Buzzfeed. thank you
Buzzfeed is laughable. Their “journalists” all contradict each other, they’ll publish literally anything and on many occasions have been found to be misinformed. Hey, as long as it’s someone who’s disabled, a minority, or LGBTQ+, they can have a job there. They matter more than everyone else and their opinion is worth 10x more.
Regardless of Harmony's story, do NOT shame people in the sex industry whether they wanted to join or not. Whether they had a "choice" or not. Women can do as they please with their bodies and are allowed to get their grind however they see fit. Some women in the sex industry came from rather healthy, supportive households.
This video gave no mention to shaming sex industry workers. She is reaching out a hand of compassion because she knows about the inner workings of the business. And she mentioned that as a worker, no matter how liberated you feel, there are still going to be customers that reach out and violate you without permission. The sex industry may be blissful for a season, but like a soda in the heat, a life can quickly lose the substance that made it full of life. So please, reconsider what Harmony is trying to say. She isn't creating a stereotype for strippers, just sharing her story and basing her outreaching on scientific research and statistics.
Jennifer Sheppard Jennifer Sheppard sis you completely missed the point of my comment. i wrote something for all the people in the comment section disrespecting sex workers as a whole. i blatantly stated “regardless of harmony’s story...”. you’re coming for the wrong person here, i understood the message of the video in its entirety.
This is a really powerful message. I honestly think that religion isn't a bad thing. I think it gave her a purpose to live and a reason why she is valuable. Sometimes you don't have someone to talk to but you have your faith and religion and it helps you look to the bright side of life. I don't think she would be where she is without that new aspect of her life. She is very brave. It's a hard story to tell.
I agree 100%. It’s really unfair to just bash religion or religious individuals, because you never know how exactly they got there. Sure, you have your people who were raised with their set of beliefs, but there’s still plenty who have gone through many struggles and need to be involved with God. I’ve met all sorts of people, just in my school’s church, who, for one reason or another, NEEDED to be there: Even one or two of our own teachers. Point being: don’t bash anyone’s motivation for getting themself out of a bad situation. The important thing is that they have found help, support, and the knowledge that they CAN help themselves.
Amethyst OpalStar // You don't think she would be where she is today if it wasn't for her religion? You need to give the girl more credit. She did this all on her own. God or Jesus or whoever did nothing for her. SHE did it ALL on her OWN.
I was raised in a conservative household and this is an eye opener for me. I think by making videos such as this the lady has reached out to a lot of women who are trapped in the sex industry. There is a choice and there is a way out regardless of how hopeless the situation may be. I hope that all women out there knows they are beautiful, special and loved. Don't be afraid to dream big.
bleh usually they’d be the type to encourage or try to normalize stuff like stripping, I never thought they’d have someone of faith come on here to condemn it lol
I wouldn't say she was condemning it, I think her message essentially boiled down to, "There's more to women in the sex industry than meets the eye, and many of them aren't there because they want to be." Though I do understand why it came off as condemning.
So many of my male friends argue that strippers love their jobs and that they choose these jobs because it's easy money. I hope this helps remind people that not every girl in the sex industry is empowered.
reuben mathew to be honest a lot of the dislikes are probably coming from sex workers. This video perpetuates the narrative that this is what it's like for all sex workers and gives people a reason to try and sanction our jobs or take our rights away because it's "dangerous"
honestly i hate when people like you ask these types of questions. like OBVIOUSLY EVERY SINGLE BIG TH-camR WILL GET A MF DISLIKE! wether its sad, happy, IT DOESNT MATTER
Vicky ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ Sorry I didn't mean to post a generic comment. I genuinely don't get it. Ok sure some sex workers may disagree but the point of this video is to have respect for women and to realise that there are real people with actual lives behind every person working in the sex industry. Why would you dislike something like that?
I'mSmarterThanYou actually I'm glad you said this, I wasn't sure how to feel about the video, I ended up liking it, but I couldn't help feeling like this only perpetuates that all dancers are victims. Not all of us are
Honestly, this video made me cry. Im so happy that she found love in God because she deserves the love God gives her and she honestly is a truly good person for sharing the love. She’s brave and courageous and amazing.
What a brave woman! She deserves all the good things that is happening in her life now. She was faced with adversity and yet she never gave up. Bless her heart!

I’m not religious and I really dislike religion actually. But stories like this make me happy and glad that religion exists for people who need some sort of guidance
Anna Smith thank you💕 So many haters in this comment section talking about how this is B.S because she mentioned God. Like he helped her, that's all that matters. Whether he's real or an idea, he helped in a way and she's going better. That's what's important.
A lot of black kids grow up in similar environments, yet when they react similarly they're criticized and judged... I've heard of the pizza places not delivering after a certain time though (it's because the delivery man gets robbed)

cecedoll88 out of all the occupations in the world you picked to be a stripper?
I remember reading her autobiography and wow! This lady went through a lot. I’m so glad she found God.

I was surprised to see that it was Harmony Dust Grillo in the video. I was a big fan of her ex-husband’s work in high school and college and had never heard her testimony before. What a great way to take negative life experiences as an inspiration to help others.
What was his work?
Crucis119 He’s a hip hop artist. He’s still making stuff, but I haven’t listened to his more recent work.
wow..
For the record, he wasn’t the abusive guy she was referring to. The name Dust came from that marriage.
Wow....
She was gorgeous when she was younger. She still is but when I saw the pics I was like "wow"
Colette Walker I know right! she's aged well.
Colette Walker yupp
The fact that you went through everything that you did, you still have so much confidence and respect when you speak. You are a great role model of how to overcome even the toughest situations that tried to break you. Some people can never move on in life and waste it all away. Because of your story I will try to live every day as if theres no tomorrow
Who else would read a book about this?
Nah, but I'd watch the movie.
She wrote one. It is in the description.
asseater007 Me that would be inspiring
asseater007 Nice pic and name.
Me I would love to read a book with this story , I love to read
I wish I could hug her 13 year old self.
Thank you for letting me see your side of things because me like many others only judge girls like you. Not anymore.
Thank you for sharing your story!
Some women strip because they want to earn some extra money and take care of themselves. Some women strip because they have no other choice. No matter what the situation is,we are not in the position to judge sex workers because of their profession.
Lidya Wayne "earn" you mean more like be exploited. No one should have to share their body to "earn" money
Catherine Garavito I totally agree with you, "liberal" feminists always come with that phrase, and they don't think about the real problem... *Why a women should be exposing herself like a piece of meat for men's entertainment? That's totally sad and wrong.*
👏👏👏
Lidya Wayne but strippers legit don't make that much cash sorry to burst your bubble but...this would pretty much ruin your own reputation and future generations
A you say sex work is wrong but I bet you 20 bucks you watch porn. Its not wrong. Its a way of making money. Maybe some women like the attention. Maybe others just need the quick cash. You have to seriously respect your body if youre going to work in a field where you are constantly naked or near naked. I guess we gotta shame people who model for artists too, then. They have no shame! Undressing so people can get in basic anatomy drawing! No respect!
I been in your shoes my darling. And finding my light too. Hard life and we still got through. My sister 🙌🏾! You made it
I'm proud of you for getting yourself out of such a hurtful existence.
Treasures omg thank you for replying, I didn't think that you would and it's awesome to know all of this

Slendergirl89 20
Completely out of context but she is one of the most beautiful woman i have ever seen. Especially her old photos, she is gorgeous
Deniz Gül right!! At least she has took care of herself through everything and she is beautiful
breezy cook ikr
Ikr i was thinking the same thing. So sad she had to go through that though
Shes a 6 at most lol
BQNG look how she looked like when she was younger 2:00
She was and is so pretty. From the inside and the outside. God bless you, keep doing what you doing.
Am I the only one shook at buzzfeed publishing a video with someone giving so much credit to God or??? I mean, not to make it about me but thank you for the representation lol.
Also SUCH a good and timely video.
Well, if she thinks God got her out of this one then let her. There's nothing wrong with her believing that
Yes.Yes you are
lol yeah because god really need representation in one of the most religious countries in the world. moron!
I was surprised too.
"Everyone thinks the sex industry is glamorous and empowering" I don't know anyone who's ever thought that lol
MITCHELL WIGGS I think those people who think that are on drugs
We hear that a lot lately, just watch pornstar interviews ect
I hate the industry, it's messed up and disgusting and very very wrong.
xpapillondenuitx heyy thank u 🤗🤗
Maybe glamorous but..empowering? I don't think that was the right word...
What we actually want to see from Buzzfeed
A. G. Yes! Seriously
dont troll buzzfeed for the content they post.. really. i get why people do that but, just stop and take a look at content like this and just forget about the rest. Mad respect Buzzfeed.
thank you
Narain Gokul buzzfeed is cancer
Buzzfeed is laughable. Their “journalists” all contradict each other, they’ll publish literally anything and on many occasions have been found to be misinformed. Hey, as long as it’s someone who’s disabled, a minority, or LGBTQ+, they can have a job there. They matter more than everyone else and their opinion is worth 10x more.
ArsenicLemonade then why are you here
the thumbnail title was a little bit dizzy, but it was a great story, i don't know why people disliked this video
Narain Gokul Sometimes they post good content, but most of them are just *TRASH*
Regardless of Harmony's story, do NOT shame people in the sex industry whether they wanted to join or not. Whether they had a "choice" or not. Women can do as they please with their bodies and are allowed to get their grind however they see fit. Some women in the sex industry came from rather healthy, supportive households.
True and same goes to drug addicts and some criminals.
Storm Break yup!
Ah well dang girl. You go!
Holy cow I was not expecting this from Buzzfeed. Well done Buzzfeed. Well done Harmony. Thanks for sharing with us!
Carrie Lynn Cos she's white?
Uh no... cause Buzzfeed posts clickbait garbage all the time and this was genuinely good. Oh wait - I see your profile pic. Carry on troll.
Carrie Lynn It was an honest question not a troll. Actually.
Halapecia shaniqua / Why tf would you assume it’s about race? Tf is your problem just assuming like that?
Halapecia shaniqua jeez stop trying to make everything about race!
This made me cry! She’s so beautiful and I’m glad her life turned out beautifully at the end.
1:58 off topic but *holy crap* she’s goals
Halns 1 ikr
Lol she is rlly pretty tbh
yuck
She's probs 13 in that photo you creep.
If I were a lesbian.....
She’s found her purpose. Extraordinary women. Bless you ❤️
This is a really powerful message. It's a hard story to tell.
religion is fine, it becomes a problem when it starts infiltrating politics and school
Mind Flowers
It's not religion it's god that helped her through her struggles
I was raised in a conservative household and this is an eye opener for me. I think by making videos such as this the lady has reached out to a lot of women who are trapped in the sex industry. There is a choice and there is a way out regardless of how hopeless the situation may be. I hope that all women out there knows they are beautiful, special and loved. Don't be afraid to dream big.
What does being raised in a conservative household have to do with the rest and of this comment.
He is suggesting that his upbringing didn't expose him to this issue
1:59 oh my god she was honestly so beautiful, she looks like she could be a model
Her face is... Something else.
I like how she said mother's boyfriend and not dad or stepdad
This poor girl! But still so strong!! Wow for telling people about this! So inspiring!
Never thought I’d see buzzfeed do a video like this
They have tons lol
bleh usually they’d be the type to encourage or try to normalize stuff like stripping, I never thought they’d have someone of faith come on here to condemn it lol
I wouldn't say she was condemning it, I think her message essentially boiled down to, "There's more to women in the sex industry than meets the eye, and many of them aren't there because they want to be."
Though I do understand why it came off as condemning.
Beautiful testimony. Im glad she escaped. May this open doors of freedom for victims of human trafficking.😢
So many of my male friends argue that strippers love their jobs and that they choose these jobs because it's easy money. I hope this helps remind people that not every girl in the sex industry is empowered.
Wow i didnt expect this to be so touching. you go, girl
it's brittany >> in a heartbeat (you Profile picture)
"You go girl"😂😂
Does anyone else not understand what goes through people's heads when they dislike videos like this??
reuben mathew to be honest a lot of the dislikes are probably coming from sex workers.
I'mSmarterThanYou I see your point
I'mSmarterThanYou actually I'm glad you said this, I wasn't sure how to feel about the video, I ended up liking it, but I couldn't help feeling like this only perpetuates that all dancers are victims. Not all of us are
Wow you are an amazing, strong, beautiful woman! Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.
My pleasure!

Honestly, this video made me cry. Im so happy that she found love in God because she deserves the love God gives her and she honestly is a truly good person for sharing the love. She’s brave and courageous and amazing.

Stories like this make me value the life I’ve been given so much more.

I've heard of the pizza places not delivering after a certain time though (it's because the delivery man gets robbed)
sweets3445 how does race have to do with wealth?

Miguel Ramirez because the cops are scared too, don’t forget they are people too with family’s to go home to..
That is very true, but if she was black I’m sure she would get the same reception ...At least I hope that is...
I'm glad she found her way to get through all of this and didn't lose hope. such a strong and beautiful woman.❤
