I actually have another Metro video coming out today about railguns, hopefully I can play through Sam's DLC and find something interesting to talk about after my test next Monday. Just out of curiosity, does Sam's DLC have anything to do with dark ones?
@@bigc500playz3 bummer, this video had a HUGE spike in views today so I thought there might be dark ones in the DLC. Guess its just people searching for Metro on YT then lol
I wonder if they also let that opening for artyom to find that signal in the beginning of the game because what else would let him hear anything if the jammer was up?
Ther's a dark one in the main menu if you wait for the counter to show "2033" you wil see a dark one showing you some through the window and disapiring.
As for "the green stuff": the primary Antiseptic substance distributed and used in the Soviet Union (and now, all ex Soviet Union countries) is a green paste that is called Zelonka- that literally translates as "[female] green thing" (zeloney=green). If you don't like the name, blame it on the Russian language.
When you get the bad ending and your on the train and you see bourbon is it just me that rolled my eyes and said: ' Well this is definitely the bad ending I'm in hell'
@@saucytendies Their presence isn't purely cosmetic or for easter egg purposes imo due to the several moments when you can see them and also the fact that you see them exactly in that one mission and in that particular moment. Frankly i thought, and still think to an extent, that the kid you find in that city was a dark one. Especially in the ending bit where you guys are driving to find the train, and you and miller are mega dying despite all your protection and special suits, yet this kiddo just chillin there like “what radiation?”
When you're going through the train in the dead city and Miller says "he doesn't feel so well" I found it weird that the ghosts by the bodies were all kids...
@@saucytendies I went back and watched the final shot of them overlooking the lake and millers resting place. The kid is still standing there with the other little girl on the left.
Just finished the game, and man, I had no idea there were actually Dark Ones in Dead City! On the other hand I found it way too convenient how that last vision of Anna had Artyom enter and crash that elevator which led him directly to the medicine. Makes so much sense now xD Man, I love these games so much!
This makes so much sense, I totally forgot about the Dark Ones conversion of radiation. Subscribed and keep up the videos. Also think you can do a video on Khan.
Just finished Exodus, didn't find the easter eggs though. Here's a theory: if the dark ones did help Artyom in the dead city and they were the group from Moscow then they may have been wary of him as he did destroy their home in Moscow in 2033, but still helped him as he saved the little one in Last Light.
Yeah I'm hoping there is some "law" against interacting with humans in the dark one society so the little one was breaking the rules to help or something like that! Also def go back through the dead city on easy so you can see some of them!
I thought they were still Metro because I liked being on the surface, but yeah they were VERY different feeling from the original games. Still fun though!
There is another dark one in the last level. You're looking for the medication and there is a barred off dark hallway. Switch your night vision on and the small dark one appears. You can't see it any other way.
Just finished the game! Love this theory so much! Makes so much sense that Artyom found the green stuff even though his mind and body basically resembled a scrambled egg, and that Miller found Artyom. Love it! Thanks man!!!
@@saucytendies I haven't! I don't have the time. I did watch videos about the Dark Ones though from the previous games but still know very little about them
Not knowing anything about the dark ones, every vision he has of Anna I interpreted more as a near death experience type of situation. They say when you are about to die, you see those you love. So considering that, his mind was producing those visions of her to keep him pressing forward and fighting for her. Love is one of the strongest human emotions and it's amazing what effects it can have on our behavior. The dark ones theory is definitely viable but I just wanted to present my opinion from the perspective of not knowing anything about the dark ones previous to playing through this game.
The Dark Ones are thelepathic beings, they can interact with dreams and hallucinations (and maybe with energy and time and space to some sort of level), in previous games they used those things to guide Artyon and even intervining directly in the events to put thins in favor for Artyon, besides it seems that is a small Dark One, similar to the Last Light one, maybe he wanted to help Artyon to return the favor or maybe the Dark Ones forgive humans about what they did bacause Last Light is about forgivenes and the Good Ending is canon so maybe they still try to help them and guiding Artyon is the best hope for humans. But i see that you're not wrong i think that the Dark Ones used Anna to inspire Artyon to keep moving and also every time that Anna appears is presicily in moments where Artyon doesn't know where to go and momentes where he's about give up.
Thanks man! I really appreciate it! If you're into movie/gaming news and reviews you might consider subscribing! I might be doing more discussion videos like too this since I had a lot of fun making it.
Hey there, just finished the last chapter and here is another hint: When you sneak around the blind Gorillas you have regular hallucinations and stuff. If you listen closely you can hear a very distorted voice telling you: "We are helping you... We are helping youuuuu" it's kinda hard to hear over all the noise going on. I played the game in german so it might have been a bit more audible that way. Also: in the last room with the 2 Gorillas (and the glass shards on the ground) you can see the gorillas holding their heads in agony (I believe its right after you charged the electrical thingy on the wall) . Must be the Dark Ones assisting with telepathic Psi stuff :)
YOU made me think: would those gorilas holding its heads atack artyon or the dark ones will hold the Ground? Cause i saw that they were kind of "too easy" but without play i just threw molotvs into ll of them, not giving chance to see if sometimes they would no attack.
I think kirill (the boy) is a dark one, he was acting kinda weird and when you find him first time there was strange radio noises coming from him. I think he is the dark one living in that city and there are no actual human survivors
Well he had a Radio with him in the Backpack. You even contact the Aurora with it. So this explains the Radio. And then there is the DLC of the Two Conoles.
1:47 They gave it a "better" name. We were never exposed to the actual name, but you can see the short name for it on the bottles, "Ze", i think. Its called "green stuff", only by locals, 20 years after war, of course there is no school anymore and such so people are degrading in knowledge. Thats why the lazy name.
It's actually a reference to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brilliant_green_(dye) which is informally called "Zelenka" in Russian and was a very common antiseptic in Soviet Union.
I have some insight as to why the dark ones didn’t help Artyom directly in finding the medicine. Think of it this way, does a mother help her baby learn to walk , or does she leave it to learn on its own. Of course she lets the baby learn for itself since he needs to rise to the challenge in order to conquer further obstacles in its life. The dark ones are similar in a way, they care for Artyom and they understand that they must show him the path to his salvation but ultimately Artyom needs to be the one to walk that path so he can become stronger and achieve his goals.
I don't think your analogy makes much sense - if you are teaching your kid how to swim, you encourage them to learn for themselves. But when you see your kid drowning, you do everything in your power to rescue them, because you know they will die otherwise. In this situation, Artyom is drowning in lethal radiation and a Dark One would definitely sense him slowly dying. Sorry, but your mother/baby analogy just doesn't work here, unless you think of the Dark Ones as sadistic "parents", which I strongly don't believe is the case, since they are neve shown to have such emotional concepts like anger, wrath, cruelty and revenge.
@@simonaspalovis1204 The Dark Ones are an extremely young race/species, they have also been shown to be incredibly naive. IIRC There was a comparison made between humans and dark ones where the dark ones say they want to communicate with humans, to become friends with them so that they can help one another, the dark ones can traverse the hot zones safely for humans and humans can teach the dark ones how to build, how to read, how to treat themselves with medicine, etc. The dark ones look at humanity as children do adults, the difference here is that the dark ones know they are more capable of surviving the harsh world that's left over after the Great War of 2013, but that they don't want to go through hundreds or thousands of years of development to be able to build something that will outlast them, like humans did. This is all reflected when Artyom and the little dark one traverse the surface on their way to the Red Square location, the little dark one asks lots of questions about humans 'before', often pointing out signs or advertisements, asking about them, even putting clothes he finds on to be more like the people he's so fascinated by.
Simonas Palovis Hello , after some thought I have constructed my counter argument for your comment. I would first like to highlight how your main argument against my theory is that since the dark ones didn’t help artyom when he was “drowning” in radiation right after defeating the “gorilla” mutant with the medicine in hand my theory would be incorrect. In fact the only reason he survived was due to miller finding artyom and giving him the last of his anti radiation medication or “the green stuff”. However I would argue that it’s this exact interaction that proves me right. My evidence for this? First and fore most The biggest piece of evidence is that when Miller takes artyom into the vehicle and is driving him towards the railroad to meet with the others he says quote “ No sleeping soldier! No sleeping now, I did find you after all, Don’t know how. Stay with me artyom” It’s that piece of speech right there that proves that the dark ones did indeed help artyom right at the last moment Think about it, Novorbrisk is a large city. How would Miller just have happened to come across artyom in the middle of that snowstorm and a limited time to do so. Also the other piece of evidence is that it’s already known that the dark ones possess telepathy to a degree, it’s my guess that one or more used this ability to indirectly communicate the knowledge of artyoms whereabouts to Miller who was the only one who could get artyom out and had the last dose of anti ration medication. I would argue that what I said is correct since as you said a mother wouldn’t just let her child drown right in front of her. The dark ones knew that the act of telepathically communicating to Miller artyoms whereabouts was the very last step for artyom and the others to reach there salvation.
@@Bigginzz I'm not trying to deny the fact that Artyom and Miller were helped by the Dark Ones - I think they definitely were. What I'm trying to say is that their care for Miller and Artyom was not the same like that of a mother and a child. It's more akin to finding a wounded animal caught in a bear trap in a forest - you take pity on it, so you help him out of the trap, but you don't do much else. The fact is, even if the Dark Ones helped Miller and Artyom, they kept their distance away from them as if they were incredibly cautious of them.
I just finished tmetro exodus and what I could tell is that artyom and the dark ones are connected somehow. Everytime I make a good decision in the game you could see a white flash and hear a voice. I think that's a dark one voice through the entire game.
Of course, they are, didn't you play last light? Artyom was the first human they made contact with and the first they tried to desensitize in order to communicate with.
The likelyhood of Artyom finding a freezer in this huge city is not that small, because he knows that the medicine is supposed to be in a freezer in a specific building, which means that this excludes the other buildings in the city. However, finding a freezer with medicine still in it, which medicine hasn't been stolen or expired and gone bad after 22 years seems a lot less likely.
Great video, man. I saw the little one on the rooftop, I was really hoping for some kind of encounter but thinking back, I really like how they did it. It explains the hallucinations when you and Miller go further into the Metro. I assumed it was drugs of some kind messing with you ( I even went equipped my gas mask when it started ) but once I saw the little dark one it made sense he was guiding you and Miller. Also, it explains the random flashback you have as a solider in the tank. Great game, I like this theory, too. Both left me wanting more :)
I had the same initial thought!! I didn't even think about the dark ones until I saw the one on the rooftop and thats what made me look into everything and ultimately make the video lol
An interesting observation I made when I replayed the game was that if you point your cross hairs right before the dark on the roof vanishes, they turn green. The same if you point your weapon to any ally in the game. I don't think that would further prove this theory (as much as I believe in it as well) substantially compared to others I've seen. But it's definitely worth noting.
@@saucytendies I also think it further establishes that the dark one is in fact there (at least from a game development aspect in the code as there is an entity there), the dark one isn't just some little easter egg that I've seen others claim.
@@potatoesmashymash5836 yeah I agree, I think since ive made this video people have also found a few more dark ones in the dead city beyond the three places I could find.
In a nutshell, the dark ones have always tried to protect artyom because as a child a dark one saved him from a mutant in the botanical gardens as a child, they adopted him because they saw him as a chance for peace, as the dark ones never wanted war. Throughout the games the dark ones subtlety shifted events to give artyom help.
Myabe this is coming late, maybe someone already said it, but in one of the buildings of Novosibirsk, there's what's looks like a small cinema hall with chairs, skeletons and a working projector; interacting with it will start a presentation abouth the "Green Stuff" where it explains how it works and on what degree based on subject condition; but it's not all, in the presentation there's also the real name of the "Green Stuff" and it's actually a real headacke, so people living in Novosibirsk's Metro came up with the name "Green Stuff".
The dark ones did not directly interact with him because they are trying to avoid the blind ones who are likely their enemy. Both the blind ones and the dark ones have psychic powers so that would make it hard for the dark ones to both directly guide Artyom and avoid or do psychic combat with the blind ones who may be just as powerful. It could also be there are not as many dark ones in that area and due to being out numbered by blind ones they are being more covert.
After the little dark one found artyom he was able to communicate with other humans in a day "dream". If you see on last light when you get to Polis, the little one brings you and khan to it, and khan was able to hear it's and artyom's thoughts Edit: and they only make certain adults that didn't get contact with the dark ones when they were young, that makes them crazy. Artyom says on his diary that maybe the reason why the dark ones make people crazy is because adults have a much harder shell and a brain already hardened up
Somewhere in the dead city, there's a stroller next to a door (I think there are some collectibles in side). The stroller contains what looks like a small dark one taking a nap. You can see it breathing if you look close.
Just finished the game tonight and I can't believe I totally forgot about the dark ones! Luckily stumbled upon your video to remind me of it. I don't usually comment but thanks for a good in-depth analysis! I'm subbing so keep up the good work!
This green stuff in Russian version is called “Zelyonka” which basically means “green stuff”, so it is a pretty accurate translation:) Btw, zelyonka (brilliant green) is an antiseptic
Yes! The previous games are much closer to this level. More linear with supernatural and creepy vibes. You can get the first two games remastered as a bundle with Metro Redux if you liked that level the most.
I played exodus first and it never crossed my mind that there was obviously games before that bc of the relationships between the characters. I'm doing a re run of the entire series and just finished 2033 and I say this theory while looking up a explanation video on the ending. I was always curious how the hell artyom found that meditation while high off his ass on radiation because I'm thinking "there's no way that he just stumbled upon the right area with the right medicine. There's no way other then for plot." Then I learned about this theory that a dark one helped him and that makes alot more since.
You blew my mind! Makes total sense. When you come right out of the metro and see the first blind one. He clearly knows Artyom's around by psychically communicating things to him. Interestingly he says "What is this?" but he obviously knows what humans are because of OSCOM. I think since The Blind Ones can communicate with Artyom it's safe to say the Dark Ones could communicate with the Blind Ones. Right after he says that he starts walking in the other direction from Artyom, so it makes sense to me our Dark One friends could be communicating with The Blind Ones to throw them off our trail. Also when the tank flashback happens we know that same Blind One is only a few hundred feet away in that tunnel. I think that Dark One was stalling us so we didn't run right into the Blind One there. And again a Blind One will say "What noise? What thing?" maybe just communicating with another Blind One that heard you, or maybe a Dark One trying to lead them away. So many possibilities.
The Dead City level is actually my favorite out of Exodus together with the Moscow chapter - they both felt like OG Metro levels with their dark tunnels and destroyed cities. I liked the semi-open world to especially the Volga level out of all 3 but it didnt felt that much like the classic Metro games and more like the Russian Fallout simply because the Dark Metro stations were missing. I think for the next Metro game (which is confirmed and according to some more reliable Game Journalist leak already very progressed) they shoudlnt abadon the Semi-Open World formula completly but combine more with classic Metro levels/settings - i would love to have a Semi-Open World inside the Metro where you can visit different stations freely through linear Tunnel paths and paths at the surface. And like Artyom said in the good ending - the Colonels and Orders mission isnt over and their home is to big for them alone - so i would love to see Artyom returning to the Metro to reveal the news, fight the invisible Watchers and Hansa and hopefully also the Dark Ones return as the supernatural aspect was always a central creepy part of the games.
Artyom had his first vision after he got out of the worm-part of the level and into the hospital-facility. A lot of these moments happens, after Artyom is in contact with these lights behind the windows, who are radioactive. I would suspect, that these lights were anomalies, not like the electrical anomalies in the Redux-metro games or in the Volga, region, but closer to the anomaly in the first Metro 2033 game. This anomaly was less electrical and were described by Khan like a phenomena with reasons, who are not understood by humans and thereby seem dangerous, but actual helped them against the mutants, because Khan understood the motives of the anomaly. I suspect, that Artyom was in contact with a special old-school variant of these anomalies. They were always close to the areas with shadows, Artyom tend to get more of a resistance to these effects by contact with shadows or things than normal humans (Khan praised this speciality of Artyom) and Artyom was worried sick about Anna. We know by Last Light, that the shadows are a real entity. Ghosts. It would be convincing in my opinion, if these anomalies helped Artyom to find the drugs, because these ghost were picking up his strong despread desire to help this person. Ghosts are connected to desire, like the ghosts of the red place, who were lonely or the confused frighten emotions of the children, that was closly observed by the Last Light-Dark One. The whole story about the Dark Ones was for Artyom always the moral lesson to understand these strange creature. (Khan speech about understanding them, while seeing a green tree in Metro 2033) He sees them in this city, because he tries to understand his hostile radioactive environment and his anomalies, while he is close to death.
3:20 you said a group of them that know artyom is good. The little dark one in Last Light says that all dark ones share memories, so they would know that although he did nuke the nest that he also helped to save them.
I just finished metro Exodus and I loved it I got the good ending I haven't played the other games nor the dlcs for Exodus so I have alot of catching up to do and am a bit confused on who the dark ones are but I hear a fourth metro is in the works rn
To me the model and textures are very good for something supposed to be seen in the distance. I think Artyom was supposed to meet them in this level but was scrapped possibly for the next game or to shorten the already long game.
I have seen a dark one in the Caspian, there is a TV on the edge of the rocks overlooking the slave camp on the middle of the map (Ship in the desert), right side. Its near the place they ambush you when the sand storm starts, after freeing the slaves...
@@saucytendies I have seen it at the end but i taught about it when i was at the mid part of the video and did not want to forget to mention it, that one is my bad XD
In the journey to get the medicine when you get in to the building if you look at the doorway path you can see that a black shadow thing like human just passed looks like this creature to me.
I JUST completed this game (DLC is next as i have the gold edition.) I am very happy to find this video .. this actually makes the game very beautiful. They been helping and guiding artyom. I have completed M-2033 but i did not play last light (its a separate cost and im not sure if i should get redux first.) i am DEEPLY IN LOVE with this realization that they have been pushing to help Artyom this is amazing, that small dark one.
actually you can find a log that says the exact name of the green stuff like its medical designation and it being shipped all over Novosibirsk and some shipments meant for Moscow saying they got cancelled/delayed or what
SaucyTendies Just an idea but if you could explore who or what Khan is I think that would make a good video, I couldn’t really find one that explored that
@@oliverraposo8640 That's a good idea! Right now I'm working on a video comparing Avatar: The Last Airbender with Game of Thrones, but hopefully I get some more free time to work on videos. I haven't posted in forever.
5:00 I actually think its because they knew Artyom was a good guy, but they also knew Artyom was there with the ones who blew their families up (Well it was Artyom but) so they were scared of them, not him.
Your mention of the dark ones not wanting to contact Artyom for fear of hurting him is unfounded. Artyom was suffering radiation poisoning and injuries from fighting watchmen and demons on the way to the top of the Tower in 2033, yet they kept trying to communicate with him through visions and hallucinations that he was misinterpreting as attacks, they were trying to get him to stop. It didn't cause him any harm, Artyom is the only human alive, supposedly, who is capable of safely interacting with the Dark Ones due to him meeting them as a child when he was still developing mentally and wasn't closed off and afraid of them like adults would be. It's very possible that instead, the dark ones didnt want to reveal themselves and clue people in to where they live or at least, places they have been after leaving Moscow, another thing is that the Blind Ones are also psionic mutants, there may have been some measure of threat to openly communicating with Artyom, while those monsters were around.
Really good theory but we know by previous games that Artyom is inmune to the Dark ones influence. So the Dark ones are there, that is clear, but maybe the hallucinations are caused not by them, but by radiation. Maybe just the Dark ones remained neutral and watched if Artyom survived Novosibirsk and all the radiation. But hey thats a really good theory man!
He's not immune, they affect him several times over. He just doesn't go insane like the other humans, which is why they call him immune. He's the only one that can hear them, see the world they do if they allow it, etc. The hallucinations could just ask plausibly be the dark ones, as much as radiation or the blind ones
Correct me if I'm wrong but they didn't come up for a name for "the green stuff" cause it was found after the fallout and not a lot of people were around to really give it a real name? I'm new to the lore behind Metro so cut me some slack, i have the book on its way lol
He probably didnt directly help Artyom because it would distract him from his goal. If he starts taking to and seeking out his dark one buddy then he isnt saving anna
One more fact that when Artyom was going to hospital in Novosibirsk level. If you turn camera to right, the dark one will spawning and walking without know Artyom was behind him
wish there was more spooky sections like the radation house hospital in the volga and in the last level there wasn't many section that used the shadow dead people. (black Ghost things) Also totally agree that the DLC could and hopefully will have something on the dark ones because unless there is another book / game that's the only way we will see more of them :(
Seems like they initially intended the Dark Ones to have a bigger role in the story and have the little one from last light guiding you on your journey and for you to meet again at the end of the game and find what happened to them but for whatever reason the devs cut most if it (maybe to make the game more stand alone) but left hints in for series vets
I saw the dark on on the first rooftop on my first play through, first thing I thought was: Wait wait Wha- WAS THAT A DARK ONE?! I was genuinely surprised and thrilled to see one.
Metro Exodus is a little different from other RPG games. Here your trusty little gun will get stuck at the exact moment you are facing off against a horde of mutants. Your filters will run out when you are in a nuclear waste dump. You will run out of bullets AND crafting materials exactly when you need them the most. And you will end up having to reload thousands of times just to save one extra bullet. And this is precisely why I love it. The Dark Ones especially, I'm on my way to buy the books too! Metro Series is in a word, immersive. And the only game series whose endings made me cry. Manly tears.
Just finished the game today. Never saw a dark one but looking at those supernatural events remind me of them. I also were wishing I could see a dark one helping me directly while inside the building (like taking my arm and pull me like it happened in Metro 2033). It would have made me very happy. Now I know they were there but I would have liked a much more direct approach.
This game is so inspired by half life 2. Those sights of the dark one in real gameplay reminds me of seeing G-Man thoughout the whole game but never being able to reach him and he is always towards where you need to go. Let alone all the gameplay, how we are always in Artyom/Dr Freemans POV, and the whole gritty vibe. Really a good replacement for any Half Life die hard fan. Great game, although the leeches part was a fucking drag…
The librarians were from the first two games, and when you looked then directly in the eye they wouldn’t attack you. The big ones in exodus are called the blind ones and they attack based off hearing!
They are more Darks in this City, on Roof he is tall and grown up. in this section where everything falls down in water, above his head is the little one :O
@@saucytendies neither do i, you just wait on the menu like the continue, new game and other options and if you wait for a while i don't know how long, the dark one appears at the window of the train

But I told myself I was mistaken. Perhaps I am. But such I good game I will replay at some time
I think that an addition to this theory may be the hallucinations related to Anna, in other words I think that the dark ones created these visions to drive Artiem to the cure, e.g. the hallucinations related to the elevators were to encourage Artiem to go down because that's where the cure was and either Anna's visions were more convincing to Artiem than the visions of the dark ones so they chose Anna's visions or they did not wanted to come into direct contact with Artiem.
Theres one through a window in one of the buildings I dont remember where but I looked in a window and it was there. Before u run into the blind ones I think
i will say, in regards to the idea that its a seperate group of Dark ones helping him out, the dark ones have a universal memory, they all have the memories of every dark one, so a seprate group would know who artyom is and know that he is their Chosen one.
The only counter point I have, they wernt just searching the city. The crew were specifically going to the "institute" building which is where the drug is supposed to be.
It was said that artyom and black one could telepathic communicate long distances so the black one never realy separate from you and maby artyom could talk to him to if he'd tried

Thats true! I figured miller gave the kid his green stuff but he could be a dark one!
Nah, he just took the medicine.
@@Ken-tv3ir yeah I thought the kid was a real person who took Miller's medicine.
Just finished the game, and man, I had no idea there were actually Dark Ones in Dead City!
On the other hand I found it way too convenient how that last vision of Anna had Artyom enter and crash that elevator which led him directly to the medicine.
Makes so much sense now xD
Man, I love these games so much!
Same man! I dig your avatar btw
This makes so much sense, I totally forgot about the Dark Ones conversion of radiation. Subscribed and keep up the videos. Also think you can do a video on Khan.
Thanks man that means a lot!! I wish I had more time to make videos, theres tons of stuff to talk about
I played the games in reverse order by accident, so I thought Artyom was just seeing things when I saw the dark one on the roof.
SaucyTendies I'm doing my second run through now to see what else I missed.
@@dirkwheeler7028 Awesome man let me know if you find another dark one I didn't cover in the video!

Yeah thats true good point
I remember getting Metro Exodus for my bday, March 22nd like a few days after release, the Novosibirsk level was the real Metro level for me.
Yeah I thought that too! I wish more of the game had been in a dead city with supernatural stuff like the last two games.
@@saucytendies Yeah, I think that Caspian and Volga and Yamantau were not metro really.
I thought they were still Metro because I liked being on the surface, but yeah they were VERY different feeling from the original games. Still fun though!
@@saucytendies Oh yeah, Definitely, the thing that annoyed me was saving Duke, Damir and Alyosha, that got on my nerves.

There is another dark one in the last level. You're looking for the medication and there is a barred off dark hallway. Switch your night vision on and the small dark one appears. You can't see it any other way.
Very cool
Man i have question it is before you see a blind ones or after you see them
Wow...hold up. Night vision goggles or scope? It straight up took away my night vision goggles in the valley.
Just finished the game! Love this theory so much! Makes so much sense that Artyom found the green stuff even though his mind and body basically resembled a scrambled egg, and that Miller found Artyom. Love it! Thanks man!!!
No problem! Glad you liked it. I think its awesome people are still buying the game bc its really solid. Have you played the first two?
@@saucytendies I haven't! I don't have the time. I did watch videos about the Dark Ones though from the previous games but still know very little about them
If you get more time I highly recommend them! They play more like the dead city level if that was a whole game.
@@saucytendies omg. The dead city level was awesome! Will try!
I really liked the video, great production and excellent thought process. Keep it up, love from Argentina my man!

That's awesome! Nice find!
Nice theory! I didn't notice the radio noise coming from him id have to replay that level
I think you're right. Man there was literally no survivors in the dead city
@Templar Knight u also hear him in the radio before u go to Novosibirsk, hes trying to contact hes father
**Tinfoiling intensifies*
Well he had a Radio with him in the Backpack. You even contact the Aurora with it. So this explains the Radio. And then there is the DLC of the Two Conoles.
1:47 They gave it a "better" name. We were never exposed to the actual name, but you can see the short name for it on the bottles, "Ze", i think. Its called "green stuff", only by locals, 20 years after war, of course there is no school anymore and such so people are degrading in knowledge. Thats why the lazy name.
Yeah it makes sense! We would nickname something like that too.
I like that idea!
Simonas Palovis
Hello , after some thought I have constructed my counter argument for your comment.
First and fore most
The biggest piece of evidence is that when Miller takes artyom into the vehicle and is driving him towards the railroad to meet with the others he says quote “ No sleeping soldier! No sleeping now, I did find you after all, Don’t know how. Stay with me artyom”
It’s that piece of speech right there that proves that the dark ones did indeed help artyom right at the last moment
Think about it, Novorbrisk is a large city.
However, finding a freezer with medicine still in it, which medicine hasn't been stolen or expired and gone bad after 22 years seems a lot less likely.
they say the city is practically dead meaning little to any looting able to take place.
That is really cool! I've never noticed that myself, but they are clearly showing they are friendly with that little detail.
When you are first driving in the city if you look to you right you will see one running along side you
That is awesome! I'm going to have to check that out!!
where exactly
In a nutshell, the dark ones have always tried to protect artyom because as a child a dark one saved him from a mutant in the botanical gardens as a child, they adopted him because they saw him as a chance for peace, as the dark ones never wanted war. Throughout the games the dark ones subtlety shifted events to give artyom help.
I think they kept avoiding him directly because they don't want their presence known, they wanna be hidden from humans.
We just hit 100 subs and I honestly had no idea this video would take off this much! I just wanted to give a BIG thank you to everyone watching!
After the little dark one found artyom he was able to communicate with other humans in a day "dream".
If you see on last light when you get to Polis, the little one brings you and khan to it, and khan was able to hear it's and artyom's thoughts
Edit: and they only make certain adults that didn't get contact with the dark ones when they were young, that makes them crazy. Artyom says on his diary that maybe the reason why the dark ones make people crazy is because adults have a much harder shell and a brain already hardened up
They helped both Miller and Atryom in the dead city level to help find medicine and help find him
Somewhere in the dead city, there's a stroller next to a door (I think there are some collectibles in side). The stroller contains what looks like a small dark one taking a nap. You can see it breathing if you look close.
Thats crazy! I have to look into that
Another stroller I looked into, just contained bones... 10/10 wouldn't look again.
The one i looked into had a small desiccated baby which due to Artyom hallucinating looked like it was breathing.
1:09 okay you got my like
Haha glad someone likes my humor
The blind ones do talk telepathically and artyom can understand them because of his experience with the dark ones in previous time.
In the French translation for Metro 2033 instead of saying "we got rid of the dark ones", Artyom says "we got rid of black people"
Just finished the game tonight and I can't believe I totally forgot about the dark ones! Luckily stumbled upon your video to remind me of it. I don't usually comment but thanks for a good in-depth analysis! I'm subbing so keep up the good work!
Thanks man!! I seriously appreciate it! Anything specific you would want to see me make a video on?
I KNEW i saw something on the rooftop. Right walking up that hill I checked my back and saw something right before i turned my back to it.
The Dark Ones really need to be in the NBA with that wingspan
This green stuff in Russian version is called “Zelyonka” which basically means “green stuff”, so it is a pretty accurate translation:) Btw, zelyonka (brilliant green) is an antiseptic
Oh that's interesting!
This last mission felt so cool and very different than the rest of the game, are the previous metro games similar to this mission?
Yes! The previous games are much closer to this level. More linear with supernatural and creepy vibes. You can get the first two games remastered as a bundle with Metro Redux if you liked that level the most.
@@saucytendies Sweet, I'll be sure to get it, thanks a lot!
just finished the game. good catch! i never caught any of these as its been years since i played the last 2 games. wow.
Also if you don't kill any blind one you will get a good karma flash. It might be a subtle hint that the dark ones are watching you.
Dude, this is mind blowing literally. I never noticed the little dark one at all.
True! Glad you enjoyed it
I can't believe I played and loved this game but never noticed any dark ones.
I knew I seen somebody up on that roof, I just thought is was a aillie up there.
They do look a lot like aliens lol
Finally he’s back from the dead :)
I am! This video took way longer to edit than I expected and I've been playing a little too much Sekiro in my free time lately.
Maybe we will see the Dark Ones at Lake Baikal with Artyom and the gang in the next game

Jesus bless you, also this game kinda like a more modern yet less diverse Stalker
I have seen a dark one in the Caspian, there is a TV on the edge of the rocks overlooking the slave camp on the middle of the map (Ship in the desert), right side. Its near the place they ambush you when the sand storm starts, after freeing the slaves...

In the journey to get the medicine when you get in to the building if you look at the doorway path you can see that a black shadow thing like human just passed looks like this creature to me.
I think that is one of them! Good find man!
I always felt that the Little One and Artyom had a little brother and big brother dynamic.
I have a dark ones theory it goes as follows...
DLC
Seth Anderson DLCCCCCCCCCCC!!!!!!!!!!
I'd be ok with that though. But also I would accept a short pre rendered film.
Very interesting theory!
Very well laid out and hopefully the developers will expand on it in the future
Thank you! I really hope so too, I quite missed them this game
There's a dark one down a hallway in the area where the piano starts playing
actually you can find a log that says the exact name of the green stuff like its medical designation and it being shipped all over Novosibirsk and some shipments meant for Moscow saying they got cancelled/delayed or what
Thats interesting
Something about the way you talk is really engaging
Haha thanks! It helps when I actually like what i'm talking about! This is easily one of the best compliment ive ever gotten!
Thanks man glad you liked the video!
(black Ghost things) Also totally agree that the DLC could and hopefully will have something on the dark ones because unless there is another book / game that's the only way we will see more of them :(
I wish that too, the dead city was by far the best level because it was like the other games.
What is the green stuff and why couldn't they just make more of it?
Inside of the hospital there is one in a dark hallway right down the back behind some metal bars
Me too. I wish they had made a real appearance bc the supernatural stuff is what I personally love about the metro series.
I have redux and exodus and I go in order all the time and I love it beside the library
I actually kinda like the library, its for sure the creepiest part of the game though.
@@saucytendies thats true but the first time I played I was dead
During the boat ride in the dead city if you look up in the tunnel you can see dark ones looking at arytom
The big things in the building are called librarians if I'm not mistaken. It was weird how if you looked at them they still attacked you somewhat.
The librarians were from the first two games, and when you looked then directly in the eye they wouldn’t attack you. The big ones in exodus are called the blind ones and they attack based off hearing!
I really like your theory, very good video, subbed and waiting for more👍
Awesome dude thanks so much! Anything in particular you would want me to cover?
A dark one also appears during the rowboat part, if you look up halfway through it you will see a Dark One watching you.
What’s trippy is it’s not a full grown dark one… that has to be the child from Last Light. What a lil badass.
They are more Darks in this City, on Roof he is tall and grown up. in this section where everything falls down in water, above his head is the little one :O
theyve been working on a new metro since the release of exodus. im excited to see whats next.
Me too! I want to go back and liberate Moscow
@Offworlder1 they announced it on social media or in an interview. You can just Google it to see for yourself
You can also see the dark one by chilling on the menu and the dark one appears at the window
Is that new? I never noticed that!
@@saucytendies neither do i, you just wait on the menu like the continue, new game and other options and if you wait for a while i don't know how long, the dark one appears at the window of the train
@@legalviolater1993 ill have to check that out! Thats a cool little easter egg
wow sharp eyes. I only saw the second one in the game
I assumed the blind ones were giving Artyom the hallucinations but it may be a combination of radiation, the Dark Ones, and the Blind Ones.
That is a cool idea too
I saw him. Didn't realize till now. As I have only played exodus. In the tunnel with miller. The the dead rise but it's just the moles underthem I was looking around moments before that. And saw a dark coloured per move very fast then disappear. I then assumed it was a mole after they jumped out from under the dead. But I remember thinking it was too skinny and wrong shape.
Really great vid with awesome, believable ideas.
Maybe the blind ones dont have telepathic powers but the dark ones created the link for artyom and the blind ones.
It was said that artyom and black one could telepathic communicate long distances so the black one never realy separate from you and maby artyom could talk to him to if he'd tried
