Bro neil is a horrible writer when I was in college and taking writing classes one of the things most bad amateur writers try to make is a pulp fiction esk out of order story like looper with Ryan Johnson and they never work like ever, like h they almost always suck and when I played last of us 2 that’s how i felt the whole time was shocked how the story felt like something you’d see on a amateur author website. The only reason why this story telling works in pulp fiction is because it’s episodic story telling of short stories thrown together. There is so much wrong with last of us 2 besides the way of story telling but telling the story in order would’ve helped greatly because there is literally no reason to tell the story out of order at all.

Seems like they initially intended the Dark Ones to have a bigger role in the story and have the little one from last light guiding you on your journey and for you to meet again at the end of the game and find what happened to them but for whatever reason the devs cut most if it (maybe to make the game more stand alone) but left hints in for series vets

I still find my self going back to play the game and sometimes I skip the cutscene when I’m not feeling it and just enjoy the scenes and gameplay since they did such and awesome job with it. The story just had a case of rushed and not finished story with too many writers and Covid 19 syndrome.
