I bought mine, first generation, for $125 back in 1984. Same color. I still have it. I don't remember another pouch coming with it.

Same here, except I lost track of it after leaving the Army.

I bought one in 1984 while stationed in Panama then if I remember right I took it to the 101st ABN. And your right it was a big heavy knife and cost like a eighty or hundred bucks or so maybe more. We were training national guard up in Michigan and one of them took a liking to it, after the the two week training was over I think I gave it the guard soldier that liked it before going back to Fort Campbell.

That looks to be the original compass.

I still have my buskmaster knife. It has the same compass in one smaller pouch. The two grappling pins fit in the other larger pouch. This knife is made for putting a climbing rope through the end cap hole. Sadly I threw the box and survival kit away decades ago.

,… according to all the Buckmaster fan group pages on Facebook the knife spikes were supposed to be used for an Anchor not a grappling hook. It was so dangerous to use as a grappling hook that it automatically voided the warranty if you used it for that purpose. It was originally designed for the Navy,… it was to double as a small one man Raft Anchor or to anchor a small package from drifting away.

I donʻt remember mine coming with a second pouch or survival kit.

Get some clear plastic sewing machine bobbins. Fill them with different types of cordage and they fit perfectly into the handle.
