  • Welcome back to the Ocean! In this video I am joined by Malachi, A keen young spearo. We head out of Tairua and are fortunate enough to get amongst some epic diving.
There comes a time in every body's life when they take a step back and see their life for what it really is.
Are you happy with yourself, your relationships and your work? Are you satisfied with what you have achieved, or do you want more?
Recently I reached this point in my own life, I felt hopeless and depressed. I was truly unhappy with the trajectory my life was on. So I did something about it.
Being honest with yourself about your situation is essential, hope and faith in a brighter future is essential, but these will get you absolutely nowhere if you don't boss up and do something about it.
Nobody is coming to save you, your life is in your own hands. Don't despair, your destiny is not predetermined but instead shaped by you. You can change your life, but it will only happen if you take action.
I came to the realization that I had to leave the coromandel, as painful as it was. I needed a new adventure, new opportunities and new faces.
Since moving away to northland my life has improved dramatically. I once again feel a sense of belonging, purpose and determination, all of which I lost towards the end of my time in the Coromandel.
Nowadays I spend my time teaching people how to dive, sharing the oceans beauty and inspiring a sense of awe. I have a job where for the first time in my life, my work is truly appreciated.
But it is not luck, all of these doors opened because I walked up and turned the handle. A giant did not pick me up, drop me in Whangarei and hand me my dream job. My life is not a coincidence, neither is yours, nobody's life is a coincidence. It is a the result of your choices and actions more than anything else.
Make the changes you need to, no body is coming to save you, it is your versus the world. Rise to the challenge.

As always, a great dive watch and some very wise words to boot! All the cliches are simply so true. You've only got one life so you really need to be the master of your own destiny. And as the Little Prince author, Antoine de Saint Exupery, says "A goal without a plan is just a wish". Looking forward to seeing your new adventures resulting from the revised plan. Onwards and upwards!

That is a excellent quote, I will remember that one. Even a great idea is worth little if nothing is done. I'm glad your enjoying the content and anticipating what's to come. The revised plan is working out beautifully so far

Nice one, I am still using a hero seven, just waiting for the hero 11 later this year with a bigger sensor and 120 FPS at 4k. FYI have you tried getting the under water filters for your GO pro, the Red filters correct the white balance and made a huge difference especially undr 10 feet, unfortunatly i didnt secure it properly and lost it. But you certainly get more colour and less that greenish look. Hey and congrats on new Job, you will love the diving up north

Hey Vaughn. I have not tried using physical filters, that is a great idea. The production has been low budget to date but I look to improve the quality. Lenes for the gopros and a drone 🤔. We might be onto something! I'll add them to the shopping list. Always appreciate when contribute ideas, especially ones that could improve the quality of my videos. That you for the comment Vaughn

SO COOL!!! this is the life i want :) Is it dangerous to just jump in the water to dive? Do you even think about sharks because i never really see divers look around and behind them when first jumping in lol IM NEW TO SNORKELING and from the USA ATLANTIC COAST. The Atlantic is so dirty dark and blue but Can i just jump off the boat and dive or are sharks something I should be scared about ? WOULD YOU DO IT? :)

Everytime you enter the ocean is dangerous to an extent. There are things that you can do to mitigate risk. When you dive, where you dive, your behavior and your equipment.
      In the case of sharks
-avoid low light conditions and change of light (sunrise/sunset). This is when sharks are most active and likely to mistake you for a prey item.
-do not show skin, exposed skin looks like wounded flesh underwater. Many shark "attack" videos you can see online feature the main protagonist wearing shorts.
-Dont draw unnecessary attention to yourself. Splashing and struggling against the ocean is the sharks calling card. Be competent and conscious in all of your actions.
Sharks are just a fact of life, you can either accept it or live in fear. Every diver worries about sharks, any who don't are either liars or foolish.
Sharks are not out to get us, if they were... well I definitely wouldn't be here. Sharks are curious but extremely cautious and calculated. Attacks don't usually happen out of no where. When sharks approach they size me up, considering if I am a threat or food. 9/10 the shark leaves, they avoid putting them selves in situations where they could be injured. An injury to a sharks eyes or other sensory organs could be the difference between life and death for it.
TLDR: sharks live in the ocean, you will see them. Sharks are not dumb and don't attack at random. There are things that you can do to reduce the chance of being claimed by the ocean.
There is no use in worrying about sharks, but be aware they are there so don't do silly things. I have seen some sharks but there are likley significantly more that I didn't. And yet I have had no serious problems. Jump off the boat into the Atlantic with not fear but understanding.
The way you described it "dirty dark and blue" sounds irresistible. Would love to experience it one day.
Thanks for the comment, always very enthusiastic when it comes to sharks. 🦈💙
