Those brainless sneakerhead for some reason got their grasp on this “Japanese grandpa shoes” just like how they did with NB.
Gorpcore never really left? It has evolved, fffpostal service, hamcus, kody Philips, you’re right it’s more of a 2.0 but it still exists, it’s been adopted into more mainstream streetwear imo.
I think NBs dying is a hot take. I still get compliments with my Stray Rats 580s which came out two years ago. Even walking around Tokyo of all places, I still got looks! Maybe a specific trend within (the dad-shoes perhaps?) is dying. But the brand itself will always be a timeless staple in my wardrobe.
In a GenXer. I graduated from Air Force 1s in 1982; New Balance in 1991 (I actually used them to run in); and Sambas in the early 2000s. Today, I wear Jack Purcells and Allen Edmonds suede sneakers homage to low cut Chuck Taylors. Yeah, I’m your Daddy! 😊
i think that new balance is not as popular but i feel like it isn't dead its more so the sambas are taking over like i am still wearing my 530s and 9030s i love them the chunkiness i love i just think dress how you like
First time I've herd "Adidas has the crown right now". I guess it's just my personal taste, but I never found adidas as exciting as their competitors. The gazelle and the samba is part of what I like to call the "timeless" model/silhouette. Versitile, cheap, and readily available shoes that anyone can wear. Every brand has their timeless shoe, Nike- AJ1s, AFs, and Maxs. Adidas - Gazelle, Samba, Stan Smith. NB - 1906s, 1991s, 2002s, + R ver.
Adidas doesn’t have the crown they fu**ed up letting Kanye go they’ll never have a movement like that again nobody ever lined up for an adidas sneaker now do they have classic sneakers yes but not enough to be considered long and consistent competition for the other brands when ye was there Nike felt the sting now it’s all over
i love consuming fashion insight from someone who knows what they're talking about, because it helps me forecast my wardrobe so i can stock up on things i like that may disappear. I'm in my 30s, i have never been on trend - except accidentally. also, thanks for referencing to your post-sneaker video - I'll give it a watch.
I'm really happy that Jordans are not treated like a gold rush for greasy resellers anymore. Now people that genuinely like them can get them. I expected Jordan 11 Space Jam lows to be impossible to get, but they are going for almost retail in resell sites, I'm thinking of getting a pair or waiting for the Jordan 11 Columbia.
Personally, as an amateur dancer, I love parachute pants and other type of baloon fit loose thin material trousers because they're just really comfortable. And good looking in my opinion. Although, the trend died like year ago? Or even more. The only thing i see kids and peers rocking is baggy jeans, literally nothing else. Everybody wears just washed baggy jeans. Where are those tech-y, cargo parachute baloon pants? WHERE DID THEY GO
NB will never die bro dead ass they have drip and subtle drip also some out there color waves and some amazing collaborations im slightly biased because I only own NB shoes lmao but they’re amazing! I think they’re not afraid to experiment which is what the show culture needs
if you don’t mind me asking, where did you get that varsity jacket you are wearing in the video?? I saw it ages ago on instagram but lost the brand 🥺🥺🥺
I think it’s cool to also take in consideration of today’s economy where less households and individuals have the excess cash to support collecting sneakers, profitability has seen a decline in reselling as keeping large inventory of sneakers which has higher retail price than before are much more costly for the sellers as well. Less demand, less profit, -> sneaker industry shrinking.
Still loving the MIUSA + UK New Balance releases. The 990v6 is a really comfortable daily driver too. As for gorpcore, it’s been interesting lately see some environmentally friendly brands and designers moving towards DWR coatings that aren’t bad for the environment like GORETEX apparently is. I think sustainability-minded gorpcore is the next wave, personally. Stuff like how Parley back in the day was big on reclaimed ocean plastic being recycled for those Ultraboosts but on a wider scale.
I feel like with regards to gorp core, a lot of people still keep the pieces but they're being styled more casually or they're only breaking them out when the weather calls for it. Some people just replaced the rain jackets with faded leather jackets altogether.
tbh we just haven't had as many cool sneakers bangers like we used to. If you compare year by year - the game changing designs/designers are scarce these days
Interesting how Gazelle and Samba are “back” for me, an Old Head, OG, from the East Coast, from the generation that INVENTED shoe culture. Samba and Gazelle ~ we had them, New Balance, in Baltimore, DC, Philly will ALWAYS be go to and to have in the closet…. Prior to Nike being Nike, Adidas were the street/hood/ shoe of choice… Shell Toes, Forum, the Adidas top ten… prior to Nike dropping the AF1 (a shoe which Baltimore help to save Nike as a brand ~ look it up, Nike has even said this, this isn’t a personal anecdote ~ Nike simply wasn’t Nike, Jordan’s, Dunks helped popularize the brand and make Nike a global brand. Air Max and the numerous innovations in Basketball shoes in the late 80’s and early 90’s were a boom to show culture… Especially to my generation… but we also wore various brands, in addition to New Balance, a staple shoe, or different brands of Adidas, a staple shoe, we introduced Timberland, Rockport Boots, Gortex (NorthFace, Eddie Bauer) hell, we even wore Salomon brand hiking shoes, back in the early 90’s… I had two pair… we wore Fila (the original Italian brand with the ultra soft leather, unlike the Americanized version of the shoes) Ellessee, Reebok, Cole Haan, Saucony… WE MADE THE BRANDS fly, popular throughout the entire culture… I can even remember how the Foamposites trend took off after the shoes didn’t initially sell well, I remember buying my first pair, on sale months after their original release… only because “NO ONE” was really buying them, until Nike began selling the Penny, and the original Foamposites were consider his “first shoe” …. I just remember Arizona rocking them in the Final Four that season, and how they didn’t match the uniforms… lol, idk why i remember that, but that’s was indicative of the culture, our style dictated the trends, now it’s like the Brands keep “selling” the new generations on what’s popular and trendy, on what “WE” made popular and trendy… It’s remarkable that the past few generations haven’t created any real new “sneakers” or introduced them into the game. They have their own mark, with the Vans, and Croc, slide on culture… Salute. But the “it” shoes are old shoes~ Gazelle, Samba, have been around since I was an adolescent in the 80’s !!!! I can remember how my then young sons didn’t like them, now they all own a pair or two… lol same with New Balance ~ kept telling them you can’t be from Baltimore and not like New Balance, it’s almost religious… However Under Armour is the new brand of choice in Baltimore, Under Armour everything. Yeah, I can remember when the shoe game was regional as well…. Part of the reason why certain types of shoes never caught on in certain places and never “blew up”~ My homie from California always told me that they sold New Balance in Costco in California (he wasn’t lying… I saw it first hand on one of my visits out west). Why Mike Boots haven’t been a staple outside of the Northeast, various forms of ACG etc. I’m not sure if shoe culture, or fashion trends are dying, but what I know is, that there’s nothing new under the sun, and trends, will come and go, and what was once popular will become popular once again~ all it takes now is for an influencer to wear it, and BOOM it’s popular again ~ same with hairstyles, it’s only so much you can do, and it is just history repeating itself ~ and new generations discover it, and claim it as their own.
I've been a big NB fan since 2013 and I am so happy the hype fell off. Being able to buy multiple made in USA pairs at the outlets for 40% off feels unreal. Even back then you'd be lucky to find that. Good content.
surprised headphones died out ...still the number one trend i will continuously do, fell in love w it immediately and still love it a lot as someone who loves accessories lol
I lowkey feel like trends kinda died off in this generation with everything being so saturated. Like what’s is popular anymore? I think the next trend will be everyone doing their own thing & I like it
I think new balances are still very trendy. Sambas are more seen now because of how much they cost. But NB are still doing very well. As far as sneaker culture goes it’s harder to be a reseller nowadays with most Jordan’s being 220+. People barley want to pay that. A lot of people classify it as Nike killing resellers but really they are killing the consumer also. Those shoes cost way too much nowadays
The underwear as pants seems to have evolved into the micro shorts trend. Boxer shorts, worn both as shorts, and seen peeking out at the top of a pair of loose pants, has also become more trendy, though I haven’t seen that one in real life yet, just online.
Adidas samba was the most popular shoe for 2023 but new balance had the highest sales in 2023. Those 9060s are comfy but I like the relax comfy feel of the 998( just a personal favorite) Good video!!
Grew up not being able to afford Nike/Jordan etc so always gravitated towards NBs. Then they become super popular as I got older and I couldn't justify the pricing. So glad they're becoming niche again and I can finally wear my favorite sneakers
What a great video! Although, I must say that the underwear as an everyday garment isn’t necessarily a new one because 70 odd years ago, the feelings we have about people wearing underwear as outerwear was a common feeling when people wore t-shirts as everyday garments. It’s crazy how our definitions of underwear change enough that eventually they are no longer taboo.
I am happy I got an Arcy in like 2021 or so. I do not wear it as my holy grail anymore as I did back then. I just use it for when it rains dogs and cats and when I am too lazy to throw on a fit. The design is great and the functionality is top tier. This made me realize how important quality in combination with design is to me. Arcy is my go to brand for anything outdoors related now.
Great to hear you ended having a positive outcome outta the trend. I bet that a lot of people did not go that way and instead rarely if ever use their shells, which are made to be used outdoors.
I dont pay attention to trends, i wear what i want. The pic of the New Balance brought me in though as i love all my NB nseakers, and always will thanks very much, couldnt care less if theyre "dead" according to whoever. x
New balance is still on top rn the only people rocking sambas are fashion kids and tik tokers. Nobody that actually cares about sneakers would say they’re the top brand by any means. rn their popularity is at an all time low since the introduction of boost back in like 2016. I’d agree with you on pretty much everything else though.
5:15 On the subject of the spectacle of clothing, I think social media has made that especially pervasive. While there has always been clothing that secured wearability for artistic aesthetic, these days, fashion is increasingly ok with building clothes whose sole purposes is to look dope on the gram. I feel like this is more pervasive in women’s fashion but I’ve noticed it in all facets of fashion. Trendy clothing is built less for motion and more for a still moment captured in time. Drape and beauty with movement, wearability, and utility helps make items timeless. Edit: I welcome the current iteration of sneaker culture dying. This year will be the one I finally cop a pair of 1s and the ALD 550s 🙏🏾 😂
I just wanna say, Gorpcore is definitely relavant for different audience now. Corporate NYC workers. I think of it as the modern suit. As one myself I see others like me wearing Patagonia, Arcteryx and the like. My personal reasoning is that it is the perfect commuter clothing because if I’m on the train or whatever a Arcteryx Delta or Patagonia Better Sweater will keep me warm enough but not enough to sweat. If you’ve taken NJ Transit or the Subway you would know what I meant. One minute it feels cold as hell, then the next it feels like a rainforest. God forbid there’s some rain and I forget my umbrella, the delta will keep me somewhat covered. So IMO there’s a definite use case for Gorpcore in cityscapes, and I get it.
I still wear gorpcore when it rains or snow, or when going out hiking. I never hopped on the arcteryx hype though. I've been rocking ACG since the Nike Lab days.
Do people even like what they buy if they stop wearing shit because it's not popular anymore? People need to buy what they like instead of being caught up in the hype. There's a reason why the 3 piece suit will never go out of style

When it comes to hype it’s not really Samba or Adidas at the moment, it’s freakin Asics!
I think trend chasing is for people with no personal identity or character of their own .. a follower. Be unique and be creative.
Yup. Who cares what other people are wearing
Who follows trends? buy what you like and who cares what others think.
My grandmother wears new balance tennis shoes when she goes to 24 hour fitness… It must be good cuz nana knows best.
Love your vids bro
What jacket are you wearing? Love it
I'm really happy that Jordans are not treated like a gold rush for greasy resellers anymore. Now people that genuinely like them can get them. I expected Jordan 11 Space Jam lows to be impossible to get, but they are going for almost retail in resell sites, I'm thinking of getting a pair or waiting for the Jordan 11 Columbia.
New Balance is still going strong in 2024
Personally, as an amateur dancer, I love parachute pants and other type of baloon fit loose thin material trousers because they're just really comfortable. And good looking in my opinion. Although, the trend died like year ago? Or even more. The only thing i see kids and peers rocking is baggy jeans, literally nothing else. Everybody wears just washed baggy jeans. Where are those tech-y, cargo parachute baloon pants? WHERE DID THEY GO
Also hi from a fellow amateur dancer
NB will never die bro dead ass they have drip and subtle drip also some out there color waves and some amazing collaborations im slightly biased because I only own NB shoes lmao but they’re amazing! I think they’re not afraid to experiment which is what the show culture needs
if you don’t mind me asking, where did you get that varsity jacket you are wearing in the video?? I saw it ages ago on instagram but lost the brand 🥺🥺🥺
Dunno if you ever found it, but it's from a brand called Somar
I think it’s cool to also take in consideration of today’s economy where less households and individuals have the excess cash to support collecting sneakers, profitability has seen a decline in reselling as keeping large inventory of sneakers which has higher retail price than before are much more costly for the sellers as well. Less demand, less profit, -> sneaker industry shrinking.
new balance still holds a special place in my heart!
Love the mic fr PVVV
I make my own trends, and wear what I think looks good, idc if its outdated or weird or whatever else. Following trends is for followers
tbh we just haven't had as many cool sneakers bangers like we used to. If you compare year by year - the game changing designs/designers are scarce these days
They kept releasing tons of colorways for many models and the sneaker market got saturated, companies focused on quantity instead of quality
gorpcore will forever be in my heart
Could make a video about accessories? Hats, scarfs , jewelry, gadgets ,bags etc.
Prior to Nike being Nike, Adidas were the street/hood/ shoe of choice…
Shell Toes, Forum, the Adidas top ten… prior to Nike dropping the AF1 (a shoe which Baltimore help to save Nike as a brand ~ look it up, Nike has even said this, this isn’t a personal anecdote ~ Nike simply wasn’t Nike, Jordan’s, Dunks helped popularize the brand and make Nike a global brand. Air Max and the numerous innovations in Basketball shoes in the late 80’s and early 90’s were a boom to show culture…
Especially to my generation… but we also wore various brands, in addition to New Balance, a staple shoe, or different brands of Adidas, a staple shoe, we introduced Timberland, Rockport Boots, Gortex (NorthFace, Eddie Bauer) hell, we even wore Salomon brand hiking shoes, back in the early 90’s… I had two pair… we wore Fila (the original Italian brand with the ultra soft leather, unlike the Americanized version of the shoes) Ellessee, Reebok, Cole Haan, Saucony… WE MADE THE BRANDS fly, popular throughout the entire culture…
I can even remember how the Foamposites trend took off after the shoes didn’t initially sell well, I remember buying my first pair, on sale months after their original release… only because “NO ONE” was really buying them, until Nike began selling the Penny, and the original Foamposites were consider his “first shoe” …. I just remember Arizona rocking them in the Final Four that season, and how they didn’t match the uniforms… lol, idk why i remember that, but that’s was indicative of the culture, our style dictated the trends, now it’s like the Brands keep “selling” the new generations on what’s popular and trendy, on what “WE” made popular and trendy…
It’s remarkable that the past few generations haven’t created any real new “sneakers” or introduced them into the game.
They have their own mark, with the Vans, and Croc, slide on culture… Salute. But the “it” shoes are old shoes~ Gazelle, Samba, have been around since I was an adolescent in the 80’s !!!!
I can remember how my then young sons didn’t like them, now they all own a pair or two… lol same with New Balance ~ kept telling them you can’t be from Baltimore and not like New Balance, it’s almost religious…
However Under Armour is the new brand of choice in Baltimore, Under Armour everything.
Good analysis my guy 👍
Gorpcore didn’t die it’s fucking summer who’s wearing a arc in 90 degree weather
#PPV the hand held mic creates a different vibe and I’m here for it 😌🤙🏼
i was waiting for your vid the whole week
love them
I've been a big NB fan since 2013 and I am so happy the hype fell off.
It’s a GREAT day when Drew uploads 🫶🏼🙏🏼
Adidas samba was the most popular shoe for 2023 but new balance had the highest sales in 2023. Those 9060s are comfy but I like the relax comfy feel of the 998( just a personal favorite) Good video!!
I definitely still judge people if they wear Balenciaga.
Just wondering if the Salehe crocs do not enter into the gorpcore label. enjoyed your video a lot
Outside of the big rubber boots none of these things are new and none of them are going anywhere.
Adidas samba was the popular shoe in ‘90s high school! I actually skated in them😂
That Somar Varsity is nice. I'm going to pick one up soon. The double breast looks proper 👌
That jacket though! That’s a very unique piece!
Gorp ain’t dead, it’s summer time. No ones wearing that shit in the summer
I still Wear gorp Core / hiking Core and in germany it stays not old fashioned
I've seen a lot of people wearing the NBs 9060
❤❤❤❤❤
Does anyone know where drews jacket from?
1906 are selling like hot cakes. I don't know how it's dying out 😅
Where did u get your jacket from ? It's fire
I think new balance is still poppin tbh , I think they’re a good overall year round brand that can always be worn
Love your jacket. Where can I get one?
i think nb shoes ain't gonna die in this decade
new balances are wayy more comfortable than nike
By the way, thank you for doing this. I didn’t even know these arc teryx coats were that nice. I’m getting one now.
New Balance? I’m from Virginia and Maryland.
New balance has always been cool
Somar jacket is SICK!! Little review or pickups vid👀Nice vid too!
whats that style of jacket called? double brested varsity goes hard!
the best way to avoid having to worry about, or keep track of trends is by watching and controlling what you consume (content)
.
How has NB died? I see way more of them than Adidas shoes around.
7:15 That's the thing. Fashion is super subjective, and everyone has their own style and taste in fashion. Great video man, keep it up 👍
New Balance is to DC, what Tims are to NYC....it's a regional staple to us. It's a trend to the rest of y'all.
