    I have a Navara 2.5 diesel 4x4. I had a 2" lift fitted and with 285 - 75 - 16" tyres it's very capable. I live in South Africa where we have a lot of rough trails. It's by no means a rock crawler, but very capable as a overland truck.

    Good evening Donald your truck looks amazing with the new lift one thing that might be a nice add-on it’s is rock silder from Hard core off road there a nice weld together kit that is easy to fab together and make a nice step to get in your vehicle and stuff off the roof rack to check it out when you can and shout out to all dogs off-road for supporting your channel

    Your skidplates are showing ;) I would love it if you make time a few months down the road to report back on the suspension lift. Your videos almost always give me much food for thought - especially the overlanding/camping and multi day excursions.

    My 04 Tundra came stock with those same Bilstein 4600 series shocks. I also have done a 2" lift and replaced the.Bilstein 4600's with Bilstein 5100's. It made such a massive improvement in ride quality!

  • @nita6495

    The efficacy of the lift is succinctly demonstrated by the strategically filmed before and after footages of the lift. Well done, Sir.

    I have to agree with your comments on Koni shocks…I replaced the factory shocks on my 1964 VW Westfalia with Konis back in 1968 and they made a huge difference in the drivability. A huge handling improvement. Used to drive the logging roads around RippleBrook Oregon.

  • @odys3803
    @odys3803 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Now 2 inch body lift, bigger tyres and you're golden. The suspension lift only helps with approach angles. It's not a bad idea to go wider as you go higher with the vehicle.
    Finally someone who sees the road in front of them 😁

    awsome upgrade, youre gonna love it every time youre out. Have you thought about trimmimg the leaf spring bolts? they look like a hang up spot sticking down so far. I feel your pain with all

      I was thinking the same thing. In fact, I was looking at that kit for my Fronty and they offer a u-bolt flip kit for $80. By itself, it's usually $100. I think if I do this kit I'll opt for flipping the ubolts and probably even upgrading to the ADO UCA's for future flexibility. But we'll see what the wallet says when it's time to make the buy. Probably next year or so.

    I think what’s really important here is how the truck feels about the lifts. Some trucks gather more self-confidence, and they feel more competitive. And they certainly feel more attractive to trucks of the opposite sex.

  • @gs98999
    @gs98999 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    With a lift like this the ground clearance doesn't change. The approach/departure angles get better but the diff is still at the same height from the ground. Going from 31" to 33" tires will increase ground clearance by 1". Regardless, body sits higher and that will help most obstacles in the field.

      @@natesv04 Yeah I'm hearing different things about the 9 speed. Some say it has unpredictable shift behaviors. And in some cases not the smoothest experience when comparing to the old school 5 speed. Even saw a new class action involving the 20-21's. I considered trading in my 19 but I had some pause about the new drive train. Plus the seats are lower and they took out the tilt and 8 way power on driver side. I felt its not as comfortable as my 19. They also took out power seat on passenger which was surprising. Allot of reported glitches on the new head unit with freezing screens and issues with car play/android auto etc.. Also they completely knackered the cruise control. I don't see it as reliable as the old old one that it replaced.

    Next time you are near Grants Pass stop at Wheelers Off Road, they may have some off road bump stops that would fit. They can really improve the ride of the truck. Maybe do a U-bolt flip while you're at it. I think the 2" lift with 33's is the sweet spot.

    Re ubolts, Put an extra nut on the thread and then cut the surplus off, As over time you will hit the exposed thread, or it will be full of rust / dirt when next you need to remove. If you can get a longer than normal nut even better still> I run double nuts on all teh exposed bolt ends on my Samaurai, saves a lot of work.. Cheers and keep at it...

    HEY!! Like that xou keep overlanding simple. Truly.
    CONCERNS. The leaf spring U bolts need to be cut down to about a 1/4" from the nut. They are vulnerable to getting bent by obstacles and besides messing up ground clearance they may be un-removable if bent.
    Also, unless I missed it, I didn't see anything about alignment. It's an absolute must.
    Always enjoy your videos and commentary.

      @softroadingthewest  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @HiPlains1
      @HiPlains1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The other way to look at this is the lower bed makes it easier to load things. I will put about 20 bags of pellets in the bed about 5 times a year. You raise that bed 2 inches and that makes that job allot more difficult. The lift is mainly to increase your approach/departure angle. The little bit of clearance increase is mainly from the larger tire. In short, most do the lifts for looks more then anything else. This poster actually is in that small percentage group that benefits from the newer mods. Most will stay on tar sealed roads and like he says, the bilsteins 4600 provide an almost identical ride.

    The gas mileage hit usually comes from the increase in tire size. Once you put on the 33’s you will see a drop in mpg’s.

    • @duncdunc76
      @duncdunc76 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! Of course if he sticks with a tall skinny it might not be too bad. I had some 305/70/R16 Falken Wild Peak AT3s on my Fronty and man it ate the gas. The mileage went from 17 to 19mpgs on a 265/75 down to 12 to 14🤪 of course my truck also has 368,000 miles on it so it's a little long in the tooth lol. I actually pulled the 305s off and put a mild 285/75 Hancook AT tire on because I drive so much for work and the mileage crept back up to 15 to 17mpgs.

    Great review!
    I got and put on the ADO kit on my R51/2010 Pathfinder recently, however at the time I chose the Bilstein kit, as my drives are mostly paved/asphalt roads, highway use; about a 95/5 split with any backcountry type driving. However, after your review, I suspect maybe the Koni kit would have been a more versatile choice, seeing as your encounter with the Koni kit on paved highways to still be better than the stock suspension.
    Wishing you fun through your adventures!
    Cheers!

    • @softroadingthewest
      @softroadingthewest  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On good highways there’s not a noticeable improvement over the Bilsteins, it’s only on rough paved roads (and speed bumps in town) where I feel a difference…my Frontier was very well-mannered on the highway with its original suspension. And from what I’ve gathered, even the Bilstein 5100s are also an improvement over the Bilstein 4600s that come from the factory on the Frontier Pro4x. With 95% pavement driving it sounds like your kit is a good match to your needs.

    Nice review, very comprehensive. Truck looks great and I am sure performs much better. Few questions for you:
    Will the parabolic springs carry a constant load better than a larger leaf pack?
    The U bolts seem to protrude quite far, do you anticipate them possibly getting hung up? (U bolt flip kit?)
    What is the story with the skid plate up front?
    ADO is one of the few who cater to our Frontier, kudos to them. Looking forward to seeing your new suspension perform in future episodes. Keep up the great work.

    • @softroadingthewest
      @softroadingthewest  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my initial conversations with ADO, when they found out that I keep my camp build in place full time (vs unloading, driving around town empty etc) they felt the parabolic was better suited than doing an add-a-leaf. If I understand correctly, the parabolic needs a pretty good load on it and may not be the right choice for someone who uses their truck more traditionally, eg empty most of the time but occasional heavy loads.
      The ASFIR front skid plate is designed to bolt up to and support the stock front bumper - which obviously I don’t have. Since shooting this video, I have modified the mounting bracket and the plate itself to better fit my configuration. Looks much better now, and you’ll see it soon on IG and upcoming videos. 👍🏻
      Edit: oh, the u-bolts. Yeah, I’ll ask about that. They do stick out quite a ways. Maybe I can cut them off.

    Were you able to use stock upper control arms I am trying to lift 2 in. on my 17 p4x and can’t get an answer I really don’t want to change upper control arms but am afraid they may make coil bucket contact

      Stock UCAs, yes. It has been fine. Can’t hurt to upgrade the UCAs while you’ve got everything taken apart, but I have not perceived any problem staying stock.

    With the lift kit that you installed from Alldogs Offroad, did you need to add after market upper control arms as well? Also, is it safe to say that the lift kit gave you move of a factory rake kind of stance instead of a leveled stance? I just bought a 2014 Nissan Frontier Pro-4x and would love to lift it, but I want to keep the factory rake so I can throw a canopy and tent on the box, as apposed to the truck looking leveled. Love your truck and set up by the way, sweet rig!

      I am still running the stock UCAs and (as far as I know) have not had an issue. While it's not a bad idea to replace the UCAs while you're at it (which Alldogs does also make for the Frontier), with this particular combination of springs & shocks, apparently there is juuuuust enough clearance in there.
      The way the rear sits will depend on what rear spring option you go for. The parabolics we decided to go with on my truck are designed to carry a load full time. Without weight in the rear, yes, my truck sits quite raked. Even with the topper build seen in this video, it was still underloaded and sitting raked. If you take a peek at my more recent videos, you'll see the current version of my rig now includes a different camper, a heavier interior buildout, and I've added an offroad bumper/swingout which is carrying my extra fuel, propane, and other items. Only when fully loaded with all 10 gallons of extra fuel, a week's worth of water and all my gear for a weeklong trip, does the truck finally sit pretty close to level.
      Talking directly with the guys at Alldogs would be the best thing to do before making a decision. They know Frontiers in and out and can help you figure out the configuration of components that makes the most sense for how you use your truck and what you want to achieve. Congrats on the Frontier, and good luck!

    Hey! Great upload, thanks. When I first got my 2010 Frontier, I paid to have a spacer lift + level kit put on it. A week later, I paid to have that kit taken off! Alignment was gnar, fuel economy went down, and it just felt cheap and nasty … Now, you’ve got me thinking! Any of the aforementioned issues with the alldogs’ kit you’ve installed? TIA.

    • @softroadingthewest
      @softroadingthewest  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Zero impact on MPGs. With the new adjustable camber bolts, my alignment shop had no problem dialing it in…in fact he was skeptical going into it and was surprised how easily he got it aligned. Zero regrets here. 👍🏻

    why not just go with a 4 inch lift. I'm hearing there is not drive line mods needed with a 4". I was looking at all dogs as well. I wonder what all dogs quality is like.

      I don't really have an opinion, I'm not familiar with it and have no personal experience with it. The Nissan Frontier forum (clubfrontier.org) might be a good place to ask around, might find someone who has it and can provide feedback. Good luck!

    What do you think of the Asfir skid plates? I've looked at them for my truck and like the design but the international shipping wipes out any $ savings vs some of the big name/big dollar domestic companies.

    • @daywalker4029
      @daywalker4029 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      they are comparable in price to Hefty Fab's aluminum skid package. I've used mine in rocky stuff and they've taken quite a few decent hits. nothing is out of whack yet.

    • @softroadingthewest
      @softroadingthewest  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In this video, the truck has the stock rims (16") and stock Pro-4x tire size (265/75R16...~31"). If you look at more recent videos, you will see that I'm now running larger tires (285/75/R16...~33") on AllDogs Offroad's 16" Frontier/Xterra rims.
