Thanks so much. I played this piece at my mother’s funeral. It is very special to me. Beautiful registration. Nice and simple and with superb musicality and feeling. Bravo maestro!! Marvelous execution of trills. Phrasing is perfect. 😀. Greetings from Waukesha Wisconsin USA 🇺🇸

Superbe interprétation avec un minimum de jeux et cadence qui invite à la prière et à la méditation, l'apaisement pour notre âme, grand merci Monsieur Wiersinga !
I can't help reacting to your saying it was a favourite piece "in your teenage years". I learnt this piece (as a your organist) in my 14th year, and I am as moved today as I was at 14. I can't believe my 14 year old self (34 years ago!) could react to it with any depth of feeling or understanding. And yet, here I am, feeling it and understanding and loving it as if for the first time. Gosh. :-)

I was playing this very piece on my Rogers 110 Organ in my home and the next day I ran into my neighbor and he told me he just lost his grandmother and he started sobbing listening to this piece. It has that effect.
One of those pieces i wanted to analyze in a pure harmonic analysis a while ago, and you learn so much from these organ works by Bach. There's usually so much to wonder about the aesthetic taste and also compositional practices in Bach's works for example how he uses melodies that came from a total different tonal system, but sometimes the harmony is just the most inspirational part
Well put. Most of the compositions were written down for Bach's students as practice material, so they are educational by nature. Bach was famous for his improvisational skills, so the idea that he actually performed the notated organ works is in all probability false. Also the tuning of the organs that were available to him at the time differed from equal temperament.
@@rjwusher this kinda boggles my mind for a while too, I mean, which organ could Bach use to play BWV 542 for example, because it probably isn't supposed to be played in meantone temperatement
Back in my thoroughly irreverent university days when I studied the or-goo, as we called it (in stead of the French “orgue”), one of the other first year students, not being very knowledgeable about German called this gorgeous piece, “O Wench, Be Mine,” by mistake! It stuck, as I’ve never been able to get that out of my mind! It made our teacher-a student of Marie-Claire Alain-absolutely crack up!,
Verbluffend mooi gespeeld.
This keeps being recommended, so I’m finally watching it so that I can delete it in future! The reason is, the organ undergraduate students (including me) used to make up silly names for pieces as we studied them in Organ Repertory class, as an aid to memory...this was, “O Wench, Be Mine”!! It is such a gorgeous piece, but my favorite version is by Marie-Claire Alain, in any one of the 3 recordings she made of Bach’s complete works. If I can’t get it out of my mind, I’ll have to get it off of my recommendations, lol!!
Simple on the surface, gaining great depth as it continues. Played on a great organ. (Would love to hear a piece requiring "full power). From Chicago, U.S.A.
Uitstekend gespeeld Erwin!
Bach is, by far, the best musician ever and a great believer in God and his son Jesus Christ. Curiously, opening the competition to occupy the position of director of the music school and the church of Saint Thomas in Leipzig, several musicians presented themselves. After the presentation of the respective works, Johann Sebastian Bach occupies sixth place. Due to different reasons, the five before him resigned, Bach did accept the position of school and church musician. Councilman Platz observed in the final committee session that, "since we can't get any of the best musicians we will have to choose a mediocre one." What an unfair and lapidary phrase! How many times are people's lives decided in this way!Bach's music is that of a huge believer in Christian dogmas. Most of his works have the following inscription at the beginning: I.I (Iesus iuva: Jesus help me) and ends with S.D.G (Soli Deo Gloria: only glory to God). Such was Bach's faith that, in the words of his son Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach, "the whole family began daily activities by praying the creed."
O man, mourn your great sins, for which Christ left his Father's bosom and came to earth; from a virgin pure and tender he was born here for us, he wished to become our Intercessor, he gave life to the dead and laid aside all sickness until the time approached that he would be offered for us, bearing the heavy burden of our sins indeed for a long time on the Cross.
Sometimes I realize how lucky we are to listen to this music.
Simply heavenly.
I'm humbled by the thought that we have heard Bach's music probably more times than he did in his lifetime.

Nothing beats a principal 8' + tremulant as solo stop.
Especially on an organ like this. Sounds fabulous.
Thanks!
sounds more like a 4' prestant ?
@@remi-chapalain It is a principal 4, but since he plays it an octave lower it sounds like a principal 8'

What has he got for the left hand?

Definitely. If the piece wasn't polyphonic you could easily mistake it for romantic piece.
