- The chorale prelude O Mensch, bewein dein Sünde gross BWV 622 is one of the 46 chorale prelude of the Orgelbüchlein (the "little book of organ"), written between 1708 and 1717.
We are lucky enough to have the manuscript of J.S. Bach. It shows that he intended to write 164 chorale preludes.
O Mensch bewein dein Sünde gross, for the time of Lent, is perhaps the most famous one, and one of the most beautiful ones. The melody of the choral is ornemented, and beautifully harmonized.

Here is the english translation of the text of the chorale :
O man, weep for your great sins
Because of which Christ left his Father’s bosom
And came upon the earth;
From a young woman pure and gentle
He was born here for us.
He wanted to become our mediator,
To the dead he gave life
And removed in this way all sickness
Until the time came
When he was sacrificed for us,
Bore the heavy burden of our sins
For a long time on the cross,

among the many beautiful works for organ or arranged for organ, by many composers, from many regions in the world (mostly of the time between about 1650 and 1750, but some others, too), this one remains to be one of the most beautiful pieces -- at least if performed so marvellous as here ! merci !

Ni mine torturée, ni facéties affriolantes : la musique, rien que la musique. Il est bon de rappeler que, quand l'affaire est menée avec exigence et sens du beau, cela suffit souvent à combler le spectateur d'un concert ou d'une vidéo d'orgue. Bravo pour cette série de propositions riches, sobres et maîtrisées !
