If rhe engine has a wet belt, i'd be stearing clear and stick to the older generation transporters. Wet belts are a ticking time bomb especially with the stupidly long service intervals.
Most wet belt problems will happen after warranty is up, so thats next to useless. In 5 years all builds using these 2nd hand vans will have to factor in this cost to make vans sellable. Sad to see the end of the T6 😢
Here in Norway both Ford Transit and Transporter come with 5 year warranty. It's been like that for many years. I own a 2018 Ford Transit Custom, and the only issue I’ve encountered was the replacement of one diesel injector. Other than that, it runs flawlessly. With 84,000 km on the clock, I plan to replace the wet belt in January.
That’s great to hear. There will be many others also enjoying problem free motoring, but no one ever talks about days they drove and didn’t have a problem
The positive thing is that converters have been working on the new Transit custom for almost a year so will have experience of designing furniture and fittings for the VW variant already, so expect them to be churned out bigtime at the end of 2025. A couple of UK converters have already dabbled with the new VW multivan. Onwards and upwards for VW campers.
@@KennyRoberts-w3z There could be a few tweaks needed as even internally not exactly the same, but they are along way there. It won’t take long and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few at the NEC Show in October, albeit prototypes as it will be very early
The newer wet belts are better, we had 3 transits at work and lost engines in 2 due to wet belt failure. We serviced them independently and missed a software update, this update supposedly changes fuelling during dpf regen, essentially to regen the dpf you have to inject fuel after the ign stroke so as to set a fire further downstream in the exhaust to get the dpf hotter, this was overfueling and some fuel would go past piston rings into the oil. The fuel in oil massively degrades the wet belts. Also we used high grade oil but not the Ford spec oil, this was developed to stop the belts delaminating. I’m still not convinced by wet belts but with hindsight we could’ve avoided 2 engine failures. We now drop the oil every 10k and use the Ford spec oil on the 1 transit we have. The other transits we had have been replaced with crafters.
@StaycationLifestyle the engine hasn't been revised some possibility that the belt has been revised but it's down to oil changes and they altered the service interval the engines are still snapping or stripping belts. was a dumb idea having a wet belt engine. so think the vw community will soon go off them. think this why they have gone down the 5 year, services included route. unfortunately it's a Ford van. not vw. that's the issue.

I got it that most panel vans sales goes off to fleet managers or lease companies, and that the retail price is determinant for a model to succeed. But the VW strategy is ambiguous at best, the T7 is the high end multivan, the next generation California as well. And the new transporter panel vans are rebadged Ford transits. Should they want to kill the conversion camper vans legend they contributed hugely to build, they would not do it otherwise. The point looks very obvious, pay the price for the OEM California or go convert a ford transit... Maybe the entry levels Fords will cost more, but I'm certain this comes with a better standard equipment . Same vehicle it is, so one should compare as is.
@StaycationLifestyle yes, I must admit I commented before the end of the video. I don't think VW will ever offer the 5 year included services and stuff like that here in France. Maybe in some leases for an extra monthly cost.. we'll see but I'm not really convinced for a new transporter yet.
