Ajuga always reminds me of my late mother, and makes me smile. She planted it when I was a kid back in the 80’s and lived to regret it. It would spread from the flower beds into the lawn every year. She hated her purple and green lawn. She was constantly digging it out of the lawn and giving it away to neighbors. Everyone besides her loved the plant lol. This video made me smile at a time of year that I’m really missing her. Thanks for the memory. I keep forgetting to plant some in my garden her honor. Love your videos.

Ooh, I really like that plant. Late in the season, I got a six pack of the same ajuga and planted four between two carex underneath my multi-stem redbud. I hope they stand out from the dirt or mulch, certainly when it's blooming. The other two are in full sun across the yard. My own experiment, I guess.
It's so nice to still see green grass. I shoveled this weekend and the snow was at least six inches deep. I'd be happy if that's all the snowfall we get, but I know that's a fool's dream.
You did an awesome job moving the cameras around so we could really watch you plant.

I appreciate this video, Jenny. I have just the spot for some Black Scallop ajuga. The spot gets full sun all day all year. I’m in southeastern NC, zone 8a; you know it’ll be hot. I did not know there’s an ajuga that can take the sun. Thanks for that info.
I was also thinking you were adding another layer to your garden. As time passes and the plants mature, your spaces will be more lovely. Also, your kids will be growing like weeds.

Ajuga is very easy to grow. When it would grow too near something I would just pull some out and literally throw it to an area on the hill figuring that it would become compost/mulch and I would say 90% of the time it would take root. Also I once divided a hosta and put it near a tree. I went inside to get the auger and some friends arrived and I totally forgot about it. Really forgot about it for weeks. It didn't care. It just sent those roots into the ground and lives there happily

  • @BarbaraWilhelm

I planted ajuga bronze beauty and it was looking glorious for months. Then I noticed a few with what looked like spider webs. In hindsight; I believe was spider mites. These plants were decimated by these little buggers. I still have 60% planted but I'm crossing my fingers that some will rebound and come back.

Jenny, the Black Scallops Ajuga is going to look fantastic between your flagstone stepping stones! I love the beautiful contrast they provide. I saw 'Ascot Rainbow' Euphorbia sitting there(?), is that what they are? That's another beautiful plant, where are you going to plant those? I purchased three last spring and I sure enjoyed that gorgeous foliage in my garden. I don't know if they are perennial in zone 5a (not tagged). It doesn't matter, I hope they come back in the spring because I'd plant them anyway for that lovely foliage. Enjoy your downtime while the greenhouse is closed to the public. Merry Christmas to your sweet hard-working family. ~Margie

Shucks, I wrote out a wonderful complimentary comment and then lost it. Maybe this will be ok since it will help with my current project: *Would Jerry show us what he is doing with the drainage pop-up.* If you've already shown us pls say so and I'll look thru your past videos. If this is a first for Jerry (to reveal what it is) would he go into a bit of detail to show us what it is supposed to do, very brief idea how to install it, and how it's supposed to work during rainy seasons, (Q1 & Q3 might be the same Q.) *I am currently going to put down/install a French Drainage Ditch (above ground) or even better -- something underground like what you are doing there in the back of your home patio area. Just wanting more info to think about which direction to go in. Thank you J & J*
    Love from Oregon : D
