    I was obsessed back in the day with ultra fast apertures. I got the 1.1 and the old FD 1.2L and the 1.0 Voightlander too. Now I can't look at the character of those lenses without feeling a little nostalgic, but also assigning my own amateurishness to it. So I've kind of ruined everything faster than f1.4 for myself.

    The noctilus is like a supermodel: it does one thing very well. It's terrible at the everyday things. If you aren't specifically shooting a portrait and obliterating the background, you just end up wishing you had a Summilix instead.

      The Nikon 58mm 1.4G has incredible bokeh, but an awful focus shift making it difficult to get in focus images. Nowadays I'd recommend the Sony 50mm 1.2 GM. Crazy good bokeh, extremely fast af and incredible sharpness.

  • @stefan_becker
    @stefan_becker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice video! But all the Noctilux versions are imho not a good investment. I used to have one of these in analog days and only got lots of soft images out of it because I could not focus precisely enough with the range finder. Also the bokeh isn't that great imho - swirly. Nowadays a far more reasonable option is imho the Sony 50mm 1.2 GM. Its autofocus is fast and extremely precise. Add a Sony Alpha 1 and you get a combo that is imho far far superior for the price of one Noctilux. And if you like the nostalgic vintage look and amazing bokeh, get a Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f1.2.

    V1 E58 give you glow images especially on skin and more dreamy.

    I think that, as engineers design lenses, their main focus at the time was to create the best optical system possible; just like Nikon has the best 0.95 lens today (most correct optically). I truly believe that all the dreamy imperfections were not necesseraly intended, but welcome adverse effects.

  • @weisserth
    @weisserth 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yeah... I don't know. I'd rather buy a Summilux ASPH and add a modern Voigtländer Nokton F1.2 or F1.0 and I'd still have enough money to add a used Leica M10 rather than buying just one Noctilux. The Voigtländer does the "not quite perfect" thing too and I am willing to bet that side by side only owners of a Noctilux would be able to tell if an image was shot by a Noctilux or Nokton and which one is "better". With the modern Voigtländer VM lenses, they've really upped their game and other than brand loyalty, status display and collecting Leicas, there is no good reason to buy the top expensive Leica lenses anymore - including their APO lenses.
