- I have put together this beginner guide for the DJI Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Classic to help those who are brand new to flying drones get familiarized with their equipment and get prepared for their very first flight. This video is from the perspective of a new user who has never flown a drone before. I keep things simple and go over some important things you should know before you take your first flight with the DJI Mavic 3. We go over topics such as included hardware, an overview of the controller and drone, best memory to use, how to charge the drone, activation, updating firmware, and many other useful topics a new drone pilot should know. Along the way, we also offer some tips to help ensure a successful first flight.

Wow! A Mavic 3 for a first drone! So lucky!
If you can race an RC Car you can pretty much fly any drone/quadcopter. Now RC Airplanes, much harder. RC Helicopters, you better be a pro! So challenging, especially doing 3D flights.
And 2 years later I purchased this drone half the price flymore combo it's the best drone with this you don't really need the pro version, have only flown it once and this lesson is a good resource for beginners like me, I appreciate
Such a soothing enjoyable instruction video! Thank You!💖👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
I'm not a beginner, but I did receive the Mavic3 from an employer and this video helped me to quickly find the things I need without blowing through a battery trying to figure them out on my own. Thanks!
1st drone. Just bought the mavic 3 classic yesterday. Watching lots of video before I fly it. Really liked yours and subscribed
Thank you very much and welcome aboard
Honestly, this was the best very beginning/er instruction video I have ever watched. You covered everything, with clarity and comprehensive explanation. Well done!
im choosing this as my first so....THANK YOU!!
I recently purchased the M3 as my first drone so I appreciate the video walk-through!
First time flyer with mavic 3 I appreciate this
What an amazing all in one overview; and I believe it’s the first I’ve watched covering so so much. Really; a big thank you for this 🎅
Nervous new flier here coming to say thanks! This step-by-step approach helped put my mind at ease.
I’m so excited this is not my first drone but it’s my first dji. This all started with a little cheap drone from harbor freight that my wife got me for my birthday and I’ve moved up a few times but I have been saving for almost 2 years and the day has finally come I’m going to get my first dji in any day now
Thank you so much. My Dji Mavic 3 Classic will be arriving in 2 days. This Video is great
Great Channel. New 107 pilot. Love this as my first drone.
1st DRONE FLIGHT
I recently bought my first drone. A top of the line, recently released, consumer level drone. And the “recently released” part is driving me crazy! I bought a DJI Mavic 3 Cine model with the RC Pro Controller. Though the order was promised in three days, it took nearly a month to arrive. It sat in the box on my office floor for another three weeks before I muscled up the courage to take it on its first test flight on Tuesday, July 5.
I did a lot of research prior to the purchase, the result being that flying it anywhere near my home would be a challenge. For starters, per the FAA, no drone may be flown above 100 feet in my surrounding neighborhood due to our proximity (3.7 miles) to Oakland Airport.
Every video I watched and every user’s guide I read implored first time drone operators to launch from a field with few or any obstacles (trees, etc.) and there is a suitable City park just three blocks from our house. Enter City of Oakland drone laws: no drone may be launched from any city park nor flown over or near any city property without a permit from the City which requires a commercial drone pilot’s license. Our backyard is filled with trees and bushes with little open space to fly a drone safely.
DJI’s User Guide is a mere 69 pages and glosses over the drone’s features without explaining under what circumstances they should be implemented. TH-cam presenters do offer several videos on DJI’s newest drone, but few on my Cine model and fewer using the RC Pro Controller which contains its own bright screen without having to attach an iPhone as used in the standard controllers.
If your head is spinning right now from all this gobbledygook, welcome to my nightmare! So, Tuesday I said Damn The Torpedos, grabbed Pat, and headed out to our backyard patio. One thing I had learned from my research was that when first instructed to takeoff, the drone raises to a level of five feet above the ground where it hovers for further instructions, hence a liftoff and landing would be safe from encountering obstructions. The unit does have obstacle avoidance sensors which I quickly learned I had not set properly as I tried to increase the drone’s flight altitude to roof level but it refused to go above ten feet.
After half an hour of monkeying about, my brain was fried, I realized I needed to go back to do some more research to overcome the obstacles I had encountered, and packed it in. During the short test flights I did manage to record video with the drone’s camera and I decided to take it all back into the house to download.
Like all of DJI’s previous models, this one comes with an SD card slot but unlike the other models, it also has an internal 1TB hard drive. Since there is no SD card drive slot on my 2020 iMac, I felt the hard drive would be enough. Good news: the drone saved the video to the internal hard drive. Bad news: DJI’s User Guide has no info on how to download the saved video to a computer. iPhone or iPad, yes; iMac no.
The DJI Mavic 3 Cine kit does come with a USB-3 cable to connect the drone’s hard drive to the port on the back of my 2020 iMac but, after turning the drone on and expecting to see its hard drive appear on my Mac’s monitor screen, no dice. Tonight, I turned on both the drone and the controller and started parsing my choices and after twenty minutes of trial and error was finally able to download the short videos I had recorded with the drone. But when I played them back on the iMac, there was no sound! So back to the research all around.
None of the TH-cam videos I found/watched delved into this subject. They also never mentioned how to change the controller’s measurement system from metric to Imperial (meters to feet) and I spent half a day resolving that issue via trial & error.
Bottom line: I’m overwhelmed but with so much $$$ invested, have little choice but to figure things out on my own until some TH-cam presenters offer up demos on issues pertinent to my drone’s equipment configuration. FYI: the best resource TH-cam presenter to date was Air Photography, hence all of his distance/altitude tips were in metric units.

Dude I love your videos, I used your tutorial for my mavic 2 years ago and now after I decided to grab mavic 3 cine, Im back again ;)
Wow thank you so much! I just got the Mavic 3 as my first done!
Awesome… What a first drone. Enjoy my friend
@@AirPhotography Thank you! I'm thrilled. I plan on watching much more of your content :)
thank you ...I just got the Mavic 4 Classic and can't wait to take it out.
I assume you mean Mavic 3 classic. Enjoy your new drone 🙂
His videos are the best quality both in terms of image production and richness of content. Even for those who already have some experience with drones, it serves to review and remember the details. I suggest just as a contribution, balancing the volume of external and internal outlets. Thanks!
Thank you very much and thanks for the feedback. Others have mentioned that as well it is something I’m going to look into and work on
Nice tutorial! I think you've covered all the bases here! Happy flight Mavic 3 pilots!
You don't know how nice it is as a Canadian to see Canadian links for recommended products in the description. Just bought this drone and recently got my Pilot's cert - really looking forward to taking this thing out to Owen Sound. Thank you brother, greetings from Toronto :)
Well done. This is the video DJI should have done.
Thank you
Thank you great video followed ur whole tutorial & took my first flight only minutes ago
Thank you very much. I appreciate that and congratulations on your first place. First of many flights
Hi Sean -just got a mavik 3 fly more combo and your video was invaluable in helping me get set up and registered -I look forward to learning more with your other videos - Pat
Thanks Pat it’s always great to hear when people enjoy my videos. Enjoy your new drone.
Great video!
Really nice and helpful video!
Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed it
Big thumbs up buddy. Nice job
Mikey
Thanks dude!
Thanks so much for the tutorial❤
You’re very very welcome thanks for watching
WOWZERS. Just finished lol. Well well well done.... 👍👍⭐⭐

Wow great video
Hello Sean, I have some experience using DJI Mavic Air and recently brought the Mavic 3. I was trying to follow the quick start instruction guide from DJI but could not understand how to charge the battery that comes with the Drone (I have the base version with Single Battery). Your explanation in this video really helped to gain the clarity with the basic function of the Mavic 3. Very clear explanations - look forward to viewing your other videos.
Thank you very much. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
I concur!👏👏👏👍👍👍
Thank you so much, explained💯
Excellent intro video!
Thanks!
Add GPS and being "connected to a satellite": You are not connected to a satellite like you are connected to a cellphone tower. The GPS satellite send data packages with a timestamp and the device just listens for them. The device compares the time of the received packages and calculates where you have to be in order to be able to receive them.
An initial startup can be very slow and take several minutes to complete because the data speed of GPS satellites is quite slow. On a phone it works much faster because you can use more different sensors (eg. a known WLAN nearby with a public position) and you can update satellite position via mobile connection.
Getting this drone soon, just have to wait on shipping
Best review yet👍🏾👏🏾💪🏾✌🏾
Awsome tips. thanks!
Quite helpful! Thank you!
I love your channel and your thorough reviews. The Mavic 3 does look like a great drone, but the price tag is a bit much. With the Air 2 and the DJI FPV (which I LOVE) I have all the drone I need for a good while, and I'll go out on a limb and predict a long life for the Air 2S. But it's still very interesting watching overviews on the Mavic 3 from knowledgeable people like yourself.
Indeed the air to us as one incredible drone and still one of my personal favorites
I’ve picked the mavic 3 as my first drone. I’m going to be trying to start a business with it, providing footage for events, real estate and putting stock footage online (at least at first), so having a high quality camera was high on my list
The mavic 3 seemed like a good option within my price range for starting my business. It’s just on charge at the minute so looking forward to testing out the camera shortly
@@oligould8575 I'm waiting for my Mavic 3 to arrive.
I'll be using it on a cattle/sheep property to check watering troughs, stock and fences.
The tracks turn to mud after every rain and will save on fuel costs, wear and tear on vehicles.
Good luck with your new business and long life to your M3.
Thanks for the tutorial, will get the drone in 1 week. 🛩🛩👏👏
Awesome enjoy your new drone when you get it
I always watched your videos about drones, I hope i get one :)
Thank you
Great video! Par for the course for you my friend. Thanks for always being a reliable source for drone tutorials. I especially appreciate this one since I did just get the Mavic 3!today and for the life of me could not get the micro SD card to go in and had no idea you need to put it in upside down which makes no sense but thanks to your video I did it properly and didn’t damage anything trying to jam it in there right side up. Two Thumbs Up 👍🏼 👍🏼
Thanks, Need more information 👍
thanks. very informative
2:26 one more difference is the extra nd filters but not so important
Does Mavic3 works with CrystalSky monitor ?
Unfortunately no it does not, crystal sky for the most part is not gonna be compatible with any newer drones do to it it’s 32-bit architecture. All modern apps run on 64 bit
Hi,
can you tell me if we can switch the function of the sticks ? Your video is crystal clear and help a lot !
I’m m new! Thank u
You’re welcome 😊
✊🏿thanks bro
G'day Shaun. Just to be sure if I heard you right, you did say that the cini version also comes with a mini sd card slot, correct? On top of the terrabite storage already available. Btw, always a great presentation mate, thank you!
How to set Home-Point as a controller location????? I am traveling with a boat or on a bicycle with a controller. So I want drone to return home to controller location.
Excellent 👍
You forgot to mention that in the Cine combo you get an extra set of ND filters also
I like the logic.
Ive never even flown a drown so let me buy the mavic 3 Cine model as my first lol.
Whats scary is there are people (even if very very few) like that... Eish i were rich.. But i have a mini 2 so im very happy
Just got my RC Pro and M3 today and its taking forever to update to the new firmware something is not right
If i never owned a drone and always wanted one for travel 1/2 holidays a year :) is mavic 3 overkill ? :) thanks
good video.. i got the fly more combo.. have you noticed that the charging brick gets really hot while charging the batteries? i used a thermal gun to take a temperature. it got up to 135 Degrees F
Mine does get very warm, I haven’t taken a temperature of it yet. I’ll look into it to see if mine is the same temperature
Okay, so after much fussing around I finally perfected a way to easily change settings, including Metric to Imperial units:
FLIGHT CONTROL SETTINGS
Tap on Go Fly
Tap 3 dots in far upper right of screen
Tap Safety:
Avoidance settings (Brake or Go Around)
RTH settings
Update Home Point
Set Max altitude & Max distance
Compass calibration
Unlock Geo Zone
Advanced safety settings
Tap Control:
Units: Metric or Imperial
Gimbal mode/calibration
Stick mode
Tap Camera:
Video format: .MP4 or .MOV
Color settings
Video encoding: H-264
White Balance
USB Mode
On for video transfer to iMac
Off for flying drone
Bought a mavic 3 as first drone
VERY GOOD
Thank you
I’d patiently wait for a Phantom 5 so I can pick up both of them.
Interesting apparently not all of the Mavic 3 versions come with the ND filters with the fly more combo. At least mine didn't.
Do you have the classic? Or the original Mavic 3
@@AirPhotography The Cine. But I did figure out why. If you order the drone with the fly more bundle directly from DJI they include the filters free as a gift. I bought my drone from an Ebay DJI certified seller Store named Camrise LLC that has a location in a mall somewhere in New Jersey. They apparently do not include the filters free of charge.
Very comprehensive and great information thanks! Did you find the controls of the mavic 3 a little spongy? I’ve owned a few dji’s now and it feels a little strange…
Well personally myself I found after the update the controls feel a little different I find them very touchy compared to how they were before
i just got the cine today, i haven't open the box yet!
Nice. Have fun with your new drone
Hello, when charging the battery, do I need to leave all three on the charger and it will progress through them or do I have to remove each batter when full so it can charge the next battery?
DJI tell you to fully charge the batteries separately for the first charge don't use the charging hub.
Indeed, once one battery is fully charged, you can remove it and it will continue charging the others
@@chadgilmore5046 I only have the charging hub to charge the batteries, what do you mean not to use the hub? Or do you mean just charge one at a time?
@@sab35263 Just one at a time not all 3 on the hub but I put the batteries in the drone and charge them separately it’s up too you
How long should the initial charge take?
Around an hour perhaps slightly longer
@@AirPhotography Appreciate you. Subscribed!
Thank you
One question: I can use my 87watts charger from Apple ? or is that not good at all ?
Yes you can.
@@AirPhotography Thanks great video!
Question: I've noticed that in every manual and video I've watched on my DJI Mavic 3 Cine, all measurements are in metric units on the controller. How do I change that to U.S. imperial units (feet/mph)? This is my first drone and I've yet to launch it; given the price tag, I'm extremely cautious and want to have a good understanding of the product before my first flight.
When you go into the settings in the fly app I forget what menu it’s under but there’s an option there you can set it to imperial or metric
@@AirPhotography : I do wish someone would research this as I can't find it!
@@leedonehower3112 under safety settings in the Dji fly app there is the option to change to imperial units. I hope you enjoy your drone.
You can put a sd card into the controller
Well I ordered the Mavic 3 from Amazon warehouse, wish me luck
Enjoy your new drone
My first drone is mavic 3 so I guess there’s that
i miss the old startup sound lol
My favorite is at 9:09 but I have a dirty mind.
Hello, can you please tell me if the Mavic 3 has Tapfly, Can do Dlog in Quickshots and Mastershots and fps available in these 2 settings and Can it shoot RAW for hyperlapses?
I bought Mavic 3 CINE. For the last two months the RCPRO is continually disconnecting from the drone. While it’s on my hand 1 m above 10m above n 100m above. Frustrating and the dji gives me lane excuses. Wouldnt recommend this drone nor any other from dji. This happened suddenly. And they want me to connect the drone to dji asssistant 2 to fix it n my iMac doesn’t have recognise that app. I have to buy a windows operating computer.
That was scary
In Ukraine our drone restrictions have been some what relaxed
why do you always say id like to make a begginers guide
its 2 clicks
youll here
beginners with mavic pro 3 LOL
Some people are buying it for the very first drone.
@@AirPhotography second degree 😉
Charging the batteries slower will extend the life of the battery plus get you a little better overall charge . If your not in a hurry charge them slowly .
Blame canada.
Sir please Create review for mavic 3 in 2023., for new users like me.. with the latest Firmware.. Thank you Sir.regards from Philippines🫡😇
