Hey Grant, just wanted to say thank you for the tutorials you have been making. I have watched you since august last year and you really inspired me and helped me get into 3d, I am now in University studying 3d animation and design and it is mostly because of you. Thank you!
Oooh, that's a nice-looking blunderbuss Grant! The modeling part is easy, but I'm eager to see how you'll go about painting it since that's something I've yet to learn.
This is probably one of the most useful tutorial series. When I first started out I always thought the geometry had to be connected to work. This made it so difficult for me to make complex objects. You made me think a different way in terms of modeling and have helped me model 10x faster than I would of in the past
The comment below is exactly what I was going to say. Purposely making a mistake, and then explaining how to fix it is very nice. I make those mistakes a lot. Great job!
I'm glad you mention,"How do you know when to make something all one object, or make it a separate object." This is something I struggle a bit with. Going too far as something being one object becomes a pain sometimes down the road....
I enjoy these type of video series that allow us to follow along. I went ahead and challenged myself to model the rest of the Blunderbuss. I will share my result on the Discord server.
I know you probably do it to show viewers what happens when you drag images in while in standard view and how to correct it, but... It's easier in general to just go to front view before dragging in the image, so it has the right orientation from the start.
would you eventually make a tutorial on sculpt vertex paint ? on a creature for exemple ? it would be so cool and you are the perfect teacher for this i believe!
Im already having problem with the importing of the picture. Not sure how, but the origin is at center, but not inside the picture at all making "resetting to center" impossible by just simply typing alt + g and alt + r :( Edit: Deleting the image and drag and drop it again to blender made its origin point to center. How nice, now it works. And done. Great lecture, got the basics right there and a bit of self learning. Cant wait to get to the part when we paint it!
Hey Grant, Is there a rule of thumb for how many segments you start with on a cylinder for low poly objects? I'm enrolled in your Blender course, and when you are making the low poly mech, you start the cylinders at 20 segments, if I remember correctly. I know it's super basic, but it's nice to know why you are choosing one over the other, so I can make good decisions when designing my own stuff. Thanks for the great tutorials! They are really helpful.
Hello Sir, Can you please explain the nodes section from basic to a professional in a single video. Please make a video on this. If you have already made please mention that here. Thank you
although not included in this vid, is there a difference between moving vertices with the grab tool and using G key twice? (unsure if its a different name)
The poly character when i upload to Mixamo it does not show complete color. I send you message in discord to help me fix it. how you will see "Yusf Murals Graffit"
for the drawing course, what’s the difference between a one time payment and a one time purchase? Will I get all future updates if I choose the one time purchase option?
I imagine you'll cover in future and that I'm just being impatient, but beyond CTRL+J, do all the separate parts need to be connected into one object for game models? I thought it was that way for years, but then others showed me that you should use a load of separate objects that are joined as one object but not as one big mesh?
@@RugbugRedfern That I get, but do they need to be one mesh is what I'm saying. Do all the separate objects need to have their meshes welded at the vertices together? Or can they just exist as the same object but not be physically joined.
@@hazchickgames2840 Oh yeah I never weld the vertices together, it makes it easier to adjust in post if I don't as well. There's no reason to except maybe minor performance benefits
All right, here it is: imgur.com/exvvDpZ imgur.com/0LvjCJS I'm not all happy with it, but it's a first effort. Btw, as I made it the engineer in me slowly realized that a blunderbuss is a spread-weapon. And it has a scope. :D A precision enhancer, on, what's essentially a shotgun with bigger spread.
@@grabbitt Thanks!. I'm looking forward for the rest of the tutorial too regardless, I'm sure there will be good advice in it, I was just in the mood for modelling so I went a bit forward.
i made the mistake of moving the center cursor and ended up getting farther in and realizing how dumb i was, the cursor doesn’t stick to images so everything wasn’t mirroring right
In-game it's easier to manage if they are all one object. Otherwise you have to manage 5 separate objects together. Being able to drag and drop one model into the game is a lot easier.
@@grabbitt a. for some reason. i was watching your video and a bit later i tried to click on the menu panels, suddenly worked like a charm, but not x-ray mode but you should look at viewport shading that works really well
im not sure if i understood u correctly but i think you should export the object in blender as FBX file or Obj file then import it into unity ? you go to file tab in blender then click export then choose the format you need click on FBX then drag that into your unity project?
@@Arrkail thanks for answer :D However the main problem is that the exported material that i made is just a black basic color instead of colorful one made in vector paint :(
If anyone tries to do this with Blender 3, the png file might not come in as a reference correctly. I had to re-export it as a png (used inkscape) in order to get the image in so that I could see it.
@@grabbitt It was. I literally just exported it as a png again with a different name. I think my download might have got corrupted as it was the only image that didn't work. Wanted to share though in case anyone else ran into. Love the content as always.

Loving your tutorials (the one with the PBR textured axe too), a must for anyone wanting to get into 3d and texturing with blender!!!
Excellent - looking forward to starting with some hand painted low poly. Thanks Grant, awesome as always...
whoa !! Abbitt with another great tutorial !!
ABBITTcadabra....Magic! This was really good, Thank you.
Excellent! Can't wait to stay up all night making this 🤭

its hand painted so you dont need to bake
