Great video, I live in Britain and happen to own a genuine 19 Century blunderbuss on which that is modelled. It has a brass barrel and is marked "Royal Mail" because it was issued to the postman of the time carrying mail on stage coaches. It has "Tower of London" proof marks because at some time in the late 19 Century it was converted from flintlock to percussion cap as they all were. My family "acquired" it when it fell off the back of a Royal Mail coach onto a road near the family home during a severe storm one dark night. Somehow we never got around to asking if the Royal Mail wanted their gun back, dunno why, must have slipped our memory.
The moments before the chronograph readings where you can clearly see that Scott is aiming directly at the chronograph will never cease to send me into a laughing fit
The allure of the BLUNDERBUSS was that it basically could shoot anything that would fit inside the bore. Broken chunks of metal, nails, coins, marbles, small rocks, creek gravel, and even a compressed Furbie. Glow in the dark projectiles might be cool too on the night shots. NEVER leave a gap between projectiles and the powder charge, whatever you shoot. Can turn gun barrel into a bomb. Watch out for ricochets on hard targets.
Unfortunately it’s an urban myth that they loaded a blunderbuss with things like nails, coins, rocks etc as doing that would damage the barrel and also potentially cause a blockage in the barrel resulting in the gun exploding

Fun fact: The Blunderbuss or "Musketoon" was just a shortened musket with a flared barrel for easy loading. As mentioned they were made for riding on a moving vehicle. The flared muzzle didn't help with spread. It was just there to allow easier loading while being jostled on a carriage. Round ball fired out of these was pretty common. Scatter shot (shotgun loads) were adopted to help aim while firing from a moving/jostling carriage. Muskets like the Brown Bess were anywhere from .69 to .80 caliber. For reference the barrel of a 12ga is .71 caliber.
To be honest, that blunderbuss probably doesn't kick much more than a 12-gauge with 3" magnum loads, and certainly not as much as some of his double rifles.

That was sweet! When I was a kid, my father had a rifle collection. Sadly, our place got robbed while we were away, and the firearms were all taken. One of them, my favorite in fact, was a blunderbuss. It was roughly the same size as yours, and was also a black powder flintlock, but the barrel was a lot different, as it had a very much larger muzzle. It really flared out from a similar size barrel as yours had back at the stock end to a real bell-shaped muzzle. Never got to see it fired, so you can imagine my delight when you popped up with one! Thanks, Scott!
That was just plain fun to watch! Ya know back in the day, they would fill those things with just about anything, Rocks, scraps of barb wire, nails, just what ever happened to be handy and would reasonably fit down the bore. Thanks Scott, great fun!!!
Just tossing this out there, thats probably a myth. The amount of damage you'd do to the gun by shoving random crap in it (and out), compared to how easy it is to make lead shot (no matter the time period... I dont doubt that people did toss stuff in them for desperate situations, but I am quite sure there's no evidence it was standard procedure or even common
The old Blunderbuss was originally made to sweep the decks of ships of the enemy before the boarding party came over. It's the hand held version of the swivel cannon that was used from high decks.
This is the best intro you have ever done. I've never heard or seen a joke to that effect, and it caught me off guard. I kept trying to guess what the punchline was going to be. Phenomenal job Scott! 😊
When I first read Blunderbuss in the title my brain went and expected a loading montage set to Bob Segers "Old Time Rock & Roll". Also I imagine a bit more length on the barrel would help but might just be my personal taste. Now Scott just need to find a affordable Nock Gun :-) Thanks and Best of Luck.
Do it brother. I’d personally start by potentially casting a cannon rough then boring the size, or just straight bore in a solid piece. Some operations of electro etching allow you to even making rifling in barrels too.
I think Scott missed the boat😅! The Blunderbuss was made to shoot whatever you had lying around. Let's see some roofing nails, rocks and broken glass go down range.

Legally speaking in America non cartridge black powder guns aren’t considered firearms. Also I’m not a lawyer.
@@erroneous6947 I was going to point that out, but it wouldn’t go well with the joke. Important point in the future perhaps. Don’t tell ze furer
Having the ability to run a Mercedes limo through a pasture and into a table, directly after shooting a blunderbuss. Truly the american dream
It's a Cadillac
@samshobe this does not change my point lmao
@@Mr.Earthmanliving i know jest making sure you know and he is living the American dream 🦅🦅🦅🇺🇲🇺🇸
@samshobe whell what do ya know, learned i lil bit new just then. I knew mercedes was german but not that cadillac was American. Thank you
some of my favorite gun humor on TH-cam hands down.
😂 Scott, never change brother the lord gave you an awesome gift for brightening the days of others. Well done mate. Keep safe and God bless. Blessings from Australia.

Him as the shoulder talking had me rolling! Thanks scott i needed that laugh brother.
As accurate as a sneeze, as dangerous as a dinosaur stampede. I like it!
You gone and done it. Just when I think you have scraped the bottom of awesome you go and do this. 👏👏👏
The chronograph gag gets me every single time 🤣
Gets me, too. I don't have a chronograph, so it kinda hurts a little bit.
Donderbus in het Nederlands
And the Germans complained about it and tried to make it illegal to use in warfare.
“Jeff don’t stand so good”.. 😂😂
Blunderbuss might make a good hallway clearing gun.
@@RachDarastrix2?!?😑😑😑
I own a Blunderbuss from the year 1700. it is a flintlock and it still functions. Nails ,chain and even marbles.

Scott, you blundered on that dad joke… Still laughing though! 😂😂😂

AWESOME!
This is the best intro you have ever done. I've never heard or seen a joke to that effect, and it caught me off guard. I kept trying to guess what the punchline was going to be. Phenomenal job Scott! 😊
Thanks for keeping us entertained Scott. Nice to have something to chuckle at once in awhile 👍
3:36 You drew the map of the Imola track. 😆
When I first read Blunderbuss in the title my brain went and expected a loading montage set to Bob Segers "Old Time Rock & Roll".
Also I imagine a bit more length on the barrel would help but might just be my personal taste. Now Scott just need to find a affordable Nock Gun :-)
Thanks and Best of Luck.
That "Chip O Matic 6000" totally LOL'ed the heaven out of me :).
i love this big bore guns, not because they're big but because how satisfying is the delay between hammer *thunk* and powder ignition in slo-mo
Yeah, that sound feels oddly pleasant.

🤣🤣🤣 that Chrono, I'm dead 🤣🤣🤣
He "almost" missed! 😂
Hindsight is 20-20, forward sight is 30-30.
In fairness, so is the Chrono
That intro of your "shoulder" talking killed me LMAOOOOOOO 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Been thinking about building a blunderbuss for years now. I like the option of loading whatever I can find.
How about a 6 inch summer sausage coming in hot?
Some golf balls or foosballswould be funny. I made a potato gun that shot foosballs, it’s incredible how destructive they can be
That's not actually true. It's just an early shotgun with a flanged barrel for ease of loading when you're on the move.
You do actually have to be a little careful. You don't want anything that will get wedged in the barrel.
😂😂Scott you are hilarious

@ronkostars4258 I mean when he get the limo? Did he do a video before with it??

It cracked me up when Scott looked at the bullet holes he traced curiously and then blurts out "it looks like a shoe!"
Love your channel Scott! I'm always excited to see your videos!!
Did not expect to love this gun. I think the amount of light it produces is much fun to look at. Not the best tactical gun but the most fun.
