One thing I learned from Rivals is that DPS needs impact without CC I notice no one has Cc except strategist and Vanguards

My username was BuffGenji for 1000 hours of overwatch and it never happened despite how shit he was to play outside of hardcore genji enable comps. Even if they finally choose to do it now after half the genji playerbase leaves, it’s too late, I’ve had it with overwatch

The whole point of a hero shooter is to experience the power fantasy and marvel rivals does a really good job at delivering that
everything is op thus nothing is op. everything feels powerful but obv theres some that are over tuned. I would rather have a broken fun game where i can play whatever hero i love playing and have a blast while having impact on the match than a "balanced" game where i have to literally counter swap to a specific character just to win the game
Agreed but there's always a meta. Balance doesn't really exist unless all kits are the same but when you slap the term competitive on anything there will people figure out metas.

Western shooter games you mean, I think we're gonna see a huge shift in the gaming sphere in the next few years as eastern gaming companies absolutely take over the competitive shooter scene, the only western studio that seemingly hasn't given into these ways of thinking are riot and shocker, league of legends is still good, so I have a feeling we're gonna see more games like marvel rivals where the balance is trully just to make the game fun and competitive and it's gonna tear down the western competitive shooter scene, because if you listen closely to how the devs answer in spilos interview you'll notice inclusion and making people feel good about themselves when they play seem to be their goals, which sound good on paper but that's the issue with dei as a whole, it sounds good until it's put into practice and you realise its actually the opposite of inclusive 😂
This actualy reminds me to a discussion I had with spilo about the hp changes. He pointed out that the biggest reason a lot of ppl hate the hp changes is that a lot of things have not been properly scaled, which has disproportionately affected the dps role since that is the role that has been scaled the less compared to the other 2 roles.
Why is it the case that the ppl that ask for the hp changes to be reverted come on the most part from dps players.
I think, in general, we need to scale up the dmg and pick potential of the dps role. Some need dmg increases (dps that center on dmg over time specialy), some might need other changes (on characters that already have good burst but lack in other departments. Junkrat, hanzo and soj being brought up as examples).
Once the dps role is properly scaled the power lvl might balance again, but until then its always the dps the role that will feel the worst to play
Damage scaling back up will simply result in the S9 changes being pointless, devs should have committed to the philosophy rather than realize 'yeah this is awkward' and then pick and choose how they wanna walk it back and for whom as well

I think the "new" factor can't be overlooked. I agree with the sentiment overall but as people really start to min-max heroes/strats on rivals, the pain points will present themselves.
Trust me I'm not looking at it from the 'new' pov, we've scrimmed multi tank multi supp comps and it falls apart because DPS role has power and counter-ability in their picks , MoonKnight, Ironman and Wolverine(despite being bad, is very good into multi tank comps) tear it apart.

People don’t understand that Damage is the Focal point of any game where you compete against another person.
They are the ones that control Time to Kill, if they are weak then nothing dies and it’s a stalemate.
I’d rather have High Damage, Broken Characters with Counter Play than Weak Unimpactful Characters. I

everytime i see ow2 gameplay now since playing rivals, i sigh. it reminds me how i can only play certain heroes or i''m throwing. at least in rivals, when i'm eliminated in an op way, i say to myself, that's alright i'm also going to eliminate you in an op way when i come back.
Not unless i use loki immo. Get ressed after. Press q on mantis or luna or eat you with jeff or press q on psylocke. Its the same game wake up
I agree with most, but rivals support have some escape too. Raccoon can rocket jump and wall climb, Jeff can go underground or bubble w speed, Luna can skate away, Loki can tp through walls, Adam can self revive or soul bond, dagger can suzu and fly to high ground. Mantis can't but has sleep like Ana. The movement isn't as bursty like in OW but the 3rd person view means you can see flanks from a distance away. You don't really get surprised in Rivals like you do in OW.
I love the way every character feels strong, if everyone is op no one is, like dps are strong enough to break through high sustain comps. A couple of characters need buffs to match the others but its good so far
Support isnt the cause for a healing issue in Marvel Rivals. The reason there "seems" to be an issue is the fact that its not just support healing. Most of the roster has great self healing/self sustaning things attached to their cooldowns and if you are having that much trouble getting kills, thats a straight up skill issue. Kills are free as hell in this game if you're playing your character right. 😂 Especially on DPS.
Nah there definitely is a high potency to the healing in Marvel Rivals. Get a good support player and they can dominate the match and set the tempo for fights
@Kitten_Catapult Again its two fold it is not really the support role itselfs fault. There is a lot of self healing and a lot of ways for people to gain over health. If you think a support is setting tempo for the whole match, you really arent active enough or hitting your cd combos well. Maybe try different target priorities, Ive had no problem top fragging accross all roles and on multiple characters. Including Captain America one of the worst single target damage characters in the game, and still can dominate 1v1s even with a support helping them.
Man you just described what the OW classic mode was! Sad because I played OW since the beginning but got sick of it before OW2. I only came back to play the OW classic mode and it was so much fun! Not perfectly balanced but very fun and punished mistakes while encouraging team play, even it it was a les than ideal comp. There was variety and it was just fun. The marvel Rivals is ok, It doesnt feel smooth and polished like OW did in the beginning.
The issue with "if everything is op then nothing is" is that its the direct cause of counter swapping, because every hero is different they are op at different things which makes the only way to deal with someone being op at one thing is picking someone who is op at defending from that, or op at the weaknesses that the hero is missing, for example say spiderman is op at diving the backline, the only way to play against that would be to pick a backline that is op at surviving dives. Another example is overwatch itself, all the tanks are op and its what led to the long counter swapping problem because if an op hero cannot get value that its a very large difference in value between the 2 teams and you just win, if rivals wants to stay as a casual game then its most likely going to be fine, but to replace the competitive option for the competitive players you will need to inevitably balance heroes by making them all balanced
Thats not how it works at all, hitscan will always counter flyers no matter the balance, CC heroes will always counter flankers, zoning tanks will always counter dive, this is just hero design, you cannot escape from these in hero shooters at all no matter what
Paladins has this issue, Supervive has this issue(slightly), OW had this issue even in OW1 and OW2 has the issue and so will rivals
@AbbyOW2 but if a flyer isnt op then you can play around it with everyone, the sepcific point im making is that if flyers, melee heroes and hitscan are all op, and then i go and pick the op flying hero, you neccesarily need to counter pick into hitscan to deal with it, as a direct result of everyone being op in different ways

@@AbbyAZK do you need hitscan to deal with pharah? at least i dont think so, now if you changed the scenario such that pharah was broken at what she does, basically pharah mercy, then hitscan is neccesary, or at the very least a lot more neccesary then when she is more fairly balanced
Right now i can deal with scarlet but fighting iron fist and captain america can be hard because once they are on me i can’t get them off and mantis can be really hard to kill

Who u play? Dr strange, BP, and spider man work well against him, once he gets within range you can run up walls as spidy venom and BP
With strange it'll be a skill matchup but his barrier will provide a lot of sustain for you, aim his shots at his head and expel dark energy and he should flop, iron fist really isn't that "broken"
Would be so cool for Overwatch, of we get just 1 new ability for all characters from PvE just to shake up game. Just something need to this game

They need to bring back the second tank to full-time status (the writing is already on the wall that it will happen in a season or two after this next one). Their experiment with 5v5 has fucked with balance. They can't make things feel good for all roles with one tank eating up so much focus.
Yeh DPS is really fun in rivals and support is too I love playing mantis and I love playing all the genji adjacent characters like panther psylocke and Spiderman

so true. in rivals all heroes are broken in some way. but as a dps(spiderman main) i can still do dmg and kill people. or if i cant i can disenage. and wait for the team. i thing i noticed is in rivals heroes feel lore accurate like spiderman he is like an actual spider, u can swing around the map in 2 swings and make insane plays. and then there is genji, he is cybernetic ninja with a magic dragon power, but i do less dng than kiri headshot and thats a support. we wont have a problem with kiri headshot if genji also did atleast 120 ith his fucking dragon embued katana.
This is my problem with the game balance philosophy. They choose to power creep majority of heroes rather than nerf the existing strong heroes. Which is totally okay IF IT IS CONSISTENT. Which it’s not. we’ve seen hero after hero get their buffs to be brought to the levels of majority of the newer heroes like mauga, juno, kiri. etc. What im saying is they will buff a lot of the ow1 heroes. Like my perfect example of this is winston. He’s so powerful and powercrept so hard. The lastest tank version is doom. On support we’ve had moira and lucio and zen and hell even brig. And like I said this is totally find. But wheres the buffs for the dps? Literally the only viable dps right now is tracer ashe widow and maybe cass depending on the map thats it. Rest are fucking useless. And if they have a torb, cass, brig, etc then welp gg tracer is also useless. Which essentially forces dps players to only play ashe widow. This is bad for dps players as we want more variety and not just hitscan poke boring heroes, but this leads to other players being frustrated by these heroes but we have no other choice to compete. Why not buff soldier 76? or genji? these heroes are literally useless along with half the dps role which is already the most difficult and least impactful role. they pick and choose who they will power creep and it’s not fair. Another prime example is mercy. Why is she still useless? I honestly feel like they are just keeping the heroes with a high skill ceiling nerfed to the ground that way everyone else with no skill can play their braindead heroes and have fun. These previous dps matchups used to be pretty skillful. for example a genji vs a cass, or a tracer vs a torb, hanzo vs ashe widow vs somb, Now they are more onesided to the heroes who require less skill which is honestly absurd. And the season 9 changes forever amplified that. I knew things were going downhill once they started nerfing tracer. I understand she’s strong and hard to kill, but if you get killed, pulsed, etc thats honestly a skill issue. doing that thing requires so much skill, aim, movement, pathing, setup, etc that not everyone can do it unlike other heroes. Now she can’t even 1 clip which is insane. Half the time you land pulse on a squishy nothing dies. suzu, pull, lamp, rally, nano, cass roll, etc and it doesnt even make a budge on tanks when they use their I AM INVINCIBLE button. I am by no means a tracer player I am a genji main, but I use her for this example because she is one of the highest skill ceiling hero in the game and she’s very fair and honest. I never die to a tracer and think oh thats bs. I simply got outplayed. Where as to half the other heroes and especially support and tanks I do. I find it ridiculous that the average player is so soft now that they can’t handle a skill gap. Like thats literally part of the competitive ranked experience. Hell thats what got me into playing genji. I used to only main hitscan. One game I got cooked by a genji so hard it inspired me to play him. Every hero I would play he was there cass deflecting my nade, widow deflecting me to a headshot, hell even on soj he reflected my ult and killed me. And to most players they would cry and say genji is op, but to me that was inspirational. I was like damn i just got gapped, so thats the power of this hero in the right hands and fell in love. Now i have 700 hrs high masters on console. Sorry for the rant I just feel very strongly about the game, balance, competitive aspect, gameplay experience and my hero genji :). Ps just because his pickrates and winerates are decent DOES NOT mean he is good or balanced.
The reason you lose a fight even after you get 2 kills with ult and tank losing is because tank have bigger hp and supports healing numbers are buffed over and over again, even after bigger hp changes. GIga healing for that reason is way more unhealthy and busted in ow than rivals
You know i have been grinding DPS since s10 to get in to plat, so this month i decided to play tank and after some time I hit plat 4 and still going
i hope that 6v6 is gonna restore the balance to the roles
Or maybe I'm bad but I don't think it's easy to heal on Marvel Rivals. I am main heal. Doing good Heal on Marvel Rivals is really very hard, half of the characters fly or jump to the other side of the world. Very difficult to follow So them. I really have the impression of being useless and being just a healing pack with legs. Waiting for the characters to come back to me for healing. To go from indispensable on overwatch to just Object on Marvel Rivals hurts !! x) On Overwatch you attack in groups, on Marvel Rivals it's spread out too much.
Don't think it's a dps issue. I think it's a Giga Buff tank issue. I had so much fun when there were two tanks that can be punished when I was playing kingmaker.
Tanks have top tier survivability, so do supports, part of the reason behind it is DPS cannot do the burst needed to tear through sustain in abilities and healing unless its a full commitment from team
@AbbyOW2 I wouldn't say that is supports vault entirely though. I would blame it on the season 9 health changes. If I remember right, alot of the dps didn't get compensated for the health increases. They got left in the dust rapidly. I feel like if they get compensated that might fix alot of dps struggles

Think of it this way the healing is op so that the player could heal you fully and move on to doing other fun things like doing some dpsing and get kills, cause i gotta say nerfing the heals is not the answer heal botting and baby setting is boring, they went out and made every role fun and that i appreciate. Marvel Rivals is peak
i disagree. I main support but play dps alot and used to be a tank main. Honestly tank in my opinion is lacking in play making. DPS have lost of ways to do it. Support as well. I know people hated the kaiju tank patch,but for most tanks unless they have a good dice roll cannot make huge plays. dps are the ones who are supposed to take down every role. Tanks as well but they dont.I will say that support does need some ideas. like stop buffing bap or lower everyones health pool. because to be frank. people were crying about dying so much that now no one dies at all. People will get angry at blizzard for that patch and forget that most people wanted it(casual people). but they could do what i think is to try a few quick play hacked with stuff like more buffs to all characters identites?(lower widow graple or increase the number of mines,Give rein faster sheild movement, give mei her freeze but make it take longer than it was before(on her gun),give some more unique passives. Those are ideas i dont know.sorry this is just a ramble

Most of these supports are really obnoxious to kill, ok great most of them can't escape but do you need to when u have crazy damage and crazy high mostly auto aim healing? not you specifically but people act like 'OW needs to learn from MR' are 'just glazing hard. Yes, OW needs more uncounterable instant win ults like Psylocke. Genius game design right there.
I love play Cloak & Dagger but they gotta remove the auto aim on both characters it's way too easy otherwise
I don't mind the autoaim, the fights can get way too chaotic to keep up with so in a third person game I get it, at best they can tone it down and tighten the aim region
Remove every stun remove every immortality and nerf boops of 50% and buff dps passive of 10% and that’s it

@ sure let’s have fun with Ashe randomly throwing nade and kill things with random spam, let’s junk rat delete dive tanks just boop them around, let’s Lucio delete soldier ultimate just boop him, let’s sigma randomly throwing a rock with 4.0 projectle size delete every dive hero, let’s Ana perma sleeping tanks, let’s Ashe boop all around without been punish for positioning mistake. This is why the game is dying and that’s why brain dead character like Ashe and cass had 0 playtime when they are not broken while doom and genji keep played even when they are throwing picks.
CC skill are so powerful that is difficult have them + op dps. Support damage should be nerfed too

I like that u admit that marvel rivals does have its issues, but the game literally just came out so I expect them to be dealt with. I think heroes like Moon Knight, Psylocke, Star-Lord are on the side of strong they should strive for, so buff characters like Cap and nerf others like Hela and it'll be fine. However there are some problems like Peni Parker and Jeff ult which are hard to fix
Im always going to be honest and never sugar coat it, Im not gonna let the 'excitement' pull me away from what I think is too good or too bad.

The only thing holding DPS back from being as powerful as they should is legitimately the HP changes. Love it or hate it, 5v5 could be fun for DPS when everything was more killable. Of course, you can't just revert HP changes without at least dialing back the projectile size changes as well.
The tank role is unsalvageable. May as well just make the experience fun for the other 2 roles instead of letting them be miserable (particularly DPS) for the sake of slightly more tank enjoyment.
Revert S9. Let things explode again. See how 6v6 goes.

@its_lucky2526 We don't mind dying (getting punished for mistakes). We mind not killing things, and having 1000 damage per elimination.
Rather, I should say that the positives of having lower HP outweigh the negatives.
As soon as I saw the hp pools increase on the day of the season 9 patch I knew it was cooked, not a soul asked for those changes in season 9, yet here we are.
6:30 true but lets not kid ourselves, most the flanks and dps dont require much aim either, alot of heros either have melee or giant projectiles, so i personally have not had issues with auto aim in marvel rivals, in ow it requires full focus and actual aim training before a gaming session and than your enemy goes sombra and steals your abilities for free, gets in your face and melts you while youre helpless, or moira just doesnt aim at all or the supports are sitting back barely trying while ana is sweating, you gotta compare this stuff to the games theyre in and auto aim just isnt as oppressive when half the cast is melee or easy to aim on, i mean psylockes the only hero who feels difficult to aim on, i cant aim on hanzo to save my life half the time while hawkeye makes me feel like i cant miss, so idk if you can just make comparisons directly like that, auto aim heals feel alot more fair in marvel rivals than ow for a variety of reason but it definitely feels more fair.. also theres more movement, idk how you heal a black panther without a little auto aim, honestly it kinda balances the game in some regard since if all the supports needed aim to heal inna game like marvel rivals, it could create a sustain meta oddly enough since than youll never wanna play the more mobile heros since theyre just not worth the effort to attempt healing them, we dont have anything rven remotely as mobile as black panther that isnt a tank therfore theyre huge or theyre tracer so they die to everything anyway and can easy fall back for med packs because shes so hard to track and kill, panther cant just teleport away, if he tried fallint back for a med pack he will most likely get spotted and killed since you see where panther goes when he moves.
Hot take.. Marvel Rivals in its current balance state feels like if OW2 went from 5v5 to 6v6 without actually addressing balance issues that were present in 5v5.
Tanks are underwhelming, they're sponges that don't really do a lot of damage, and they lack satisfying visual feedback (Magneto) or straight up feel odd to play (Thor/Cap/Hulk)
Support is very strong role, and the healing and their survivability is bonkers, characters like Jeff, Mantis and Luna are overtuned and too mobile.
DPS is 50:50, majority of the cast feels situational. Heroes like Iron Fist, Hawkeye and Psylocke are easily the most consistent characters that can take down these problematic supports and move the match forward.
I'm still gathering my map knowledge, but it feels like off angling is way too risky, and the lack of global HP regen is very noticeable. With the way people play right now, it feels like both teams are sleeping on main very often and just poking each other, nobody is dying unless a support makes a silly mistake or you get bursted down by someone like Hela that luckily hit triple HS or Hawkeye.
It's also not uncommon for both DPS and Support to end up with 7k dmg or 7k+ healing without anyone dying and they end with 1-3 elims/assists.
For a game that's 6v6, they have a lot of balancing to do and establish what they want the game to be like. Not to mention the game is extremely unoptimized, and sadly I feel like if this issue doesn't get solved, people on PC are going to drop the game.
also Hawkeye is way worse, as in way better than Widow/Hanzo in OW but people too busy deep throating MR right now to talk about that.

They already have a moira like hero and she's much more fair to play into, and the reason they don't have a brig is because they aren't stupid enough to add that probably 😂
But scarlet witch is actually fair to face mainly because the flanks and high mobile heros that Moira would annoy with her auto aim, are actually good in marvel rivals, and if they add brig as she is currently in ow I believe it would be solved by this as well, turns out nothings broken when everything is allowed to be strong and actually have their hero fantasy lol
The devs don't understand that when you make a hero like genji who needs to get kills to access his full kill, that it isn't fun when the heros he's supposed to kill are immortal, or that tracer isn't fun when everyone's hp goes up yet everyone can still 1 shot you and all they give to compensate you is a dps passive which results in your best way of playing to be poking from afar with your close range smgs 😂
both genji and tracer are still good because the act of flanking is a super important role, it's so important that it should have its own category like tank or support tbh, so being able to get into a backline in ow is always gonna be useful but it's been reduced to applying the dps passive from their own backline and distracting rather than the hero fantasy its supposed to be.
That’s just not how it works tho lol, you’d know that if you played the game for a decent while. No role entirely controls the game in rivals, that’s why it’s so much better. People just play duelists more because that’s what gamers typically do in every game. And pretty much every game I’ve had at least 1 tank and supp in comp and it can work in plenty of scenarios

@ultimateblaze23 it's not glazing, marvel rivals legitimately knows how to balance, it's not even that hard, paladins has been balanced imo for along time, now ofc you ask a hard-core paladins player and they'll tell you otherwise but thats the case with every Game, the difference is I hear this kinda talk from silvers in overwatch lmao, it's part of overwatches culture that it can't be balanced, their poor balance transcends anything ive seen in other games, like paladins I always feel like my character can do stuff, like when I face my own fav heros in paladins, I sometimes have thoughts like "wow that feels abit oppressive" than remember that's my main and every hero in this game can feel oppressive when played well, and very few are just oppressive at their skill floor.
Like how I explained that genji and tracer have effectively lost everything that makes them fun, how about instead of trying to dismiss me with some buzz word like "glazing" you actually argue my points and explain to me why tracer and genji haven't lost their hero fantasies.
It would be cool to see characters have more power and style in Overwatch. Give stuff like Mcree and Hanzos old abilities back, bring back lootboxes, get rid of that crappy monetization and id probably play the game again but they really messed everything up

After playing ow classic, this def isn’t the way to go, they felt horrible to play against. You can bring more power into everyone’s kits without making it feel horrible tho. And loot boxes aren’t coming back, it’s a free to play game now, they’re gonna make you pay for skins. Back in ow1 you had to pay for the base game so they didn’t need as much money from people paying for skins
All of the content creators and streamers suggestions will ruin Rivals just like they did with OW.

@@AbbyAZK Yeh the constant complaining from the creators was not responsible for a single change... give me a break. The whole reason role queu was introduced was because of the constant complaining about goats and Brig. That was the beginning of the end.

The reason Role Q was introduced was because they couldn't balance brig after 22+ nerfs LMFAO, it was a problem that couldn't be solved because GOATS couldn't die, every creator and pro suggested Nerf AOE healing + sustain, all those years later, its the same problem, AOE heal + high sustain, none of that ever gets nerfed.
If they'd listen, Genji wouldn't be garbage, Mercy would be the best support, Rein would be gigabuffed and meta in proplay, etc. Pointing fingers at creators is funny because the complaints and dissatisfactions happens BECAUSE they don't listen to any of us.
