    I really appreciate this deskquest of yours! I'm sure there's a lot of us that are going back and forth between choosing a budget set up or investing a bit more for a sturdier, more long term build. This has definitely given more insight on both options. I think I'm going to look into the Karlby option for sure. Definitely keep us updated if you come across any more findings!

      I'm so happy to hear that this has helped someone :D Curious to hear what path you end up going down, either way, just steer clear of the Lagkapten!

    Thank you for making this video. I'm now 100% certain that the Karlby battlestation will be my next desk.

    Is the middle leg required for the 72" Karlby? Does it sag without the leg?

    Whats that middle leg? How you mount it and did you buy it from Ikea too? Model name?

    I ordered the 98” Karlby and it’s so big I had rented a u-haul to carry it and man gonna struggle bringing it up the stairs I hate to imagine how hard it’ll be whenever I move

    Thank you for your video amigo...After watching your videos about the Ikea desks. I decided to get rid of my old Lagkapten and go for the Karlby. I'm upgrading my monitor to the Samsung Oddysey G9 57 inches and I don't want to take any risks. I have my doubts about the Lagkapten being able to withstand such a heavy monitor...I like your reasoning at the end of the video. If in doubt, or if you think it may not be strong enough why risk it? Thanks amigo. I'm looking forward to setting up my Karlby. :)

    I have questions lol firstly which length did you go with? I see they have 74 all the way up to 98. Secondly do I need to bolt or screw anything onto the karlby or does it simply just sit on top of the Alex drawers? I’m looking for a super long, but sturdy desk to fit at least 3 monitors, an Xbox, keyboard, speakers, mic, etc. i know that’s a helluva lot to ask of you but I truly appreciated this breakdown and became so intrigued with where your journey finished. Hope it’s not too much to ask for lol

    • @ohpinyanated1692
      @ohpinyanated1692  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey!
      I went with the 74" which fits my triple monitor setup just right. I think the 98" would be a bit too large with anything placed at the ends being out of reach.
      No bolting required! I only added some 3M felt pads to the Alex drawers and the Karlby has enough weight to sit nicely without moving.
      Based on your planned use case and the items you've described, I think you'd have no issue going with a 74". Saves you money and has just enough space, though this is assuming your monitors are ~27" like mine. If they're a bit larger, it should still work though your desktop/laptop might have to be stored on the ground next to your desk. Really depends on your specific set up. The keyboard and speakers should be a non issue unless the speakers are bulky and will fight for space with the monitors.
      Hope that helps!

    Thank you so much for this video you summed up my decision. Also, you gave so much useful information. I can’t thank you enough. Question, on top of drawers did u put anything?

  • @wrigleycapital7274
    @wrigleycapital7274 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is there an overhang in the back? It looks perfectly flush in the front but I noticed the dimensions of the Karlby and the Alex drawers aren't exactly the same

    • @ohpinyanated1692
      @ohpinyanated1692  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good eye! Yes, there is overhang but I think it's helpful as it provides additional space for monitor arms. The over hang is 2-3" which doesn't cause any issues for me.

  • @probabilistic

    How is this setup doing, a year later? Still no sagging in the middle? Also I'm curious if you considered any of the IKEA desk underframe options? I think the RODULF is the only one that "fits" the KARLBY.

    Looks good! Did you buy the ADILS leg separately or did it come with the KARLBY?

    • @ohpinyanated1692
      @ohpinyanated1692  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I bought the ADILS separately, and at $5, that's a solid deal. It's generally a not so great product but when used to just support the midpoint of the Karlby, it gets the job done.

    How sturdy is the desk, does it wobble when gaming or working?

  • @JJ-tn6fw
    @JJ-tn6fw 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    For the Lagkapten desk: Would attaching metal supports help? Ive been thinking about buying two metal trapezoid legs, and some inexpensive slotted angle iron rods (about the same length to the tabletop). Then attach the legs to the rods to create a metal frame. And attach that tabletop to the rods. Will this greatly reduce the wobble, and at the same time increase the rigidity to prevent the sagging issue?
    Edit 1:I changed the design. I realized the legs are wide and bulky enough to prevent the wobbling issue. So i decided to attach the rods to the length side of the tabletop (basically recreating a wooden shelf). This will allow me to use my mic, monitor, and camera clamps without the compression issue in the recycled paper areas. And Im thinking about buying cheap black spray paint to give it a modern/rustic feel, since cheap paint scratches off fairly easily.
    Edit 2: about the same price as 1 alex drawer

      @ohpinyanated1692  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, thanks for asking. Based on what I was able to understand, it seems like more work than its worth. If you have to put so much work in to bolstering the Lagkapten, makes more sense to just get a solid wood desktop and skip all the additional steps. Ultimately, the Lag's flaw is that it has a hollow construction which will always make it inferior to conventional solid desktops.

      @@ohpinyanated1692 Your 100% right. I got all the material yesterday and finished the build today. The desk is fairly sturdy but I don't think it was worth it. I should've spent the extra 50 bucks to save hours of my time.

    Is the Alex and Karlby combo WITHOUT the leg stands still too high for shorter people? 5'6 or shorter? Just wondering would a KARLBY and HELMER combo work? Helmer is 26" high without castors but would 2 of these support the Karlby?
