    Dooku belonged to another time. In the Republics past his abilities and beliefs would've been heralded and couldve been the greatest of the Jedi. But he was born in a time were corruption was inescapable. Dookus story ultimately shows how even the nobilist of people can become twisted.

      He's a lot more grey in the Legends continuity and displayed nobler traits, and he didn't fully fall to the Dark Side until the last year or so of the Clone Wars. Also Ventress was never a Dathomiri Night Sister, but a Rattataki who fell after her master died, and by the end of the war about half of her was reinforced with cybernetics and simply left the Core after Dooku betrayed her, and disappeared into the Outer Rim.

      He played at being a villain but he never really tried to fix the Jedi. He made a lot of accusations but couldn't follow a plan or provide one. He clearly dabbled in dark power but seems to have been playing some foppish game.

    A man who, in his eyes, tried to do the right thing, held humanitarian values, but ultimately was left with no-one. Also, I don’t believe he was as much of a pawn of Sidious’ as people believe. For example, in Episode II, he revealed to Obi-Wan the senate was under the control of ‘a dark lord of the Sith.’ If only Obi-Wan had believed Dooku, perhaps Palpatine would have been exposed. Plus, Dooku trained his apprentices to a much higher standard than Sidious permitted him to, suggesting to me that Dooku had plans of his own. Either way, he is certainly an interesting character; the films of which do not do him justice.

      According to Wookieepedia, Jenza planned to reveal Dooku's secrets to the Republic and that sort of backed him into corner. As for Sifo-Dyas, my guess is Sidious ordered his death to both cover their tracks and also to test Dooku's loyalties. Considering how in deep Dooku was with the Dark Side by that point, it's not really too surprising.

    • @austinkersey2445
      @austinkersey2445 4 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      @@ArcRogerr Legends Dooku hadn't even given in besides academic studies and usage. He didn't fall fully until the last half of the Clone Wars. Honestly I prefer this since you get to see him fall slowly over the course of the war, as it wears down his morals and gives Palpatine and the Dark Side the oppurtunity to corrupt him. It's actually pretty tragic since he had designs to betray Sidious and instate the Jedi as the governing body of a new government and bring peace and prosperity to the galaxy. The reason was so that they could be the police and reduce tragedies and calamities in the galaxy, and prevent them when they could. Is it good? No, but it's much more benevolent than what Palpatine had in mind. Though that would mean that it would be harder to rebel since most could see him as a benevolent ruler, whereas people in the Outer and some of the Mid Rim didn't really like Palpatine after he became Emperor. Is it bad that this reminds me of Batman if he became world dictator?

    Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

    There is somewhat of a plothole in my opinion when it comes to Dooku's story. What I'm talking about is the case of Dooku killing one of his good friends, Syfo Dias, out of just pure Darkness, and then later being sad that Qui-gon was dead, another friend. It's debatable, as it's known that the Dark Side is fueled by emotions, and therefore pain and loss is real for Sith Lords, but I don't like the idea that Dooku had it in him to kill Syfo, even if Palpatine ordered it. I feel like Dooku should have been emotional of the thought of it and decide to somehow use Syfo as a secret apprentice or ally. But for Dooku to just kill him is out to character. Plus, he doesn't have sith eyes.

    Way back when, I started liking Count Dooku just because he's played by my all-time favorite actor, Sir Christopher Lee, but the more I learned about the character himself, the more I like him. He's a gentleman, just like the actor who played him. He didn't want galactic conquest, he was trying to restructure the galactic government so that it would function more effectively and would actually accomplish what it needed to, rather than the endless squabbling of the Republic's senators. The Sith were a means to an end for him, but he got pulled in a little too far.

    Dooku as my main favorite Sith Lord from the Star Wars Saga and mainly from the prequel movies, for some reason I've always sympathize with him more than with other Sith Lords, and sometimes even more than with other Jedis. Although I do also sympathize with Vader as well, but with Dooku its totally different. This is because I always looked at the Count as a more of a respectable Sith Lord than Vader or the Emperor. His siding with the dark side came more from a place of ambition and desire for power than from a place of evil and desire of destruction. And as well Dooku felt much more moderate like a Sith Lord. This we can see it through his lines of dialogue, like when he is speaking directly to Anakin or Yoda, it seemed to me that Dooku was a charismatic leader and mainly he treated his enemies with respect and courtesy, even if they where prisoners. His cultivated presence proves that Sith Lords doesn't necessarily need to be destructive beings of rage.

      @johnr797 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@daniellegibbs7391 i agree. Dooku knew Qui-Gon was just as conflicted as he was. Telling him how clueless they all really were seems like a push to have Obi-Wan give up partisanship in general, so that they could both be Grey Jedi. I don't think Dooku was ever fully on the dark side.

    • @ForgottenFafnir
      @ForgottenFafnir 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dooku was never a true sith, rather a Jedi who had accepted the Dark Side part of himself. He never truly shared Palpatine's vision or desire to rule the galaxy, merely wanting to purify the Jedi order and Senate of its corruption, and bring balance to the universe.
      As a character he was very similar to Mace Windu, in strength, in beliefs, and in their emotions. Both had powerful emotions yet always kept them under control, never giving in.
      That's why I feel its out of character for him to have been 'consumed by the dark side to the point where he would kill his friends and family'. But why didn't he attempt to convince his friend to join him? He knew they had similar beliefs and goals, but never tried to recruit him? He's smarter than that. He could've invited his friend to meet in secret, and then kill him if he disagreed. It wasn't like he couldn't. And yet he never tried, and instead hired not fully trusted or reliable assassins to kill him. Did he not have access to Boba Fett or hell, Cad Bane and any of the other Bounty Hunters?
      As for his sister, I feel like he would've killed her regardless as a necessary evil. He loved her as his one surviving family member, but she planned to expose and ruin everything. There was no need for them to say it was the dark side that made him do it. Same with his apprentices

      The Jedi had different schools of thought as highlighted by the lightsaber colours. Some were more pro intervention and others saw it as their job to follow the will of the force. The philosophy of the Jedi evolved continuously like any institution and was also vulnerable to manipulation. Their intentions weren’t evil but they had strayed from their core mission when they obeyed the Republic rather than their ideals. Doesn’t make them bad, it made them ineffective though.
