Thanks for another wonderful video Simon....as always full of interest. Your image of the creeping buttercup is quite stunning...I looked at it again and again and just thought WOW !
Beautiful images. The grass flower at 7:27 is stunning and definitely one I would put on my wall. Your descriptions of how you consider composition and make use of selective focus and shallow depth of field are particularly insightful and very helpful for beginners like me.
Thumbs up. Love the patient manner in which you explain your process, your composition, the choice of aperture, focus stack, etc. and then demonstrate the outcome of that considered process. Kudos for lugging the Mighty Benbo out and about. Not sure I'll ever be doing that again, but never say... Shame that the Bell thing is so important to your channel. I've got enough pavlovian notifications and tracking in my life. Instead I prefer to see what's new in my 'subscriptions' and view them when it suits (coffee time, generally!). Sorry to let you down on that front, Simon, but it is for good reason, on my part.

Hi Simon, Yet another great vlog. I always thoroughly enjoy your work and find it very inspirational. Notifications or not, I always watch your channel anyway.
Great video Simon. Always enjoy your narrative alongside the photo. Have you created a book before? I would imagine that the fantastic imagery combined with a snippet of text from your extensive knowledge would be a winner.
Hi Mike, I have considered a book and even more so recently, but nothing produced as yet. I thought of doing one titled "In Praise of Plants" but whilst I had considered it from a photographic perspective, I hadn't considered the ecological angle. It's good idea!
What stunning images. Off to a country park with two friends, just after six am . Hoping to find wild orchids. If not willl try to find some shots similar to yours.Taking your top tips and attempting to apply them. Tripod? Or Hand held? I must make up my mind!

Hi Phillip, I’m an ecologist by profession and have been keen on the natural world from a very young age. All of the subject matter I find on the videos is unplanned, so I can’t research beforehand. As yet, I haven’t come across anything that has stumped me on the day!
Hi Simon, I liked the meadow foxtail, and really saw focus stacking put to great purpose with the herb robert here. Shame about the sound, thought you'd be OK with the lav mike. Learning this video stuff myself at present. I'm with Barry Conway on the bell thing, but comments and likes are also important for youtube, so I've done both. Cheers Marshall
Simon, I also meant to ask what size still images you use in your videos? I was trying that out yesterday with 144ppi images with horrible results, my thinking was 72ppi for screen doubled to 144 so I could zoom in / pan around, YUK! Cheers Marshall
Hi Marshall. Thanks for the sub and the bell, I really appreciate it. That 10,000 seems like it's taken forever to get to. Whatever happens after that I'm fine with. The Lav mic is usually very good but twice now this has happened and both times it's been down to user error. It's as simple as the mic plug had not been pushed in fully so all that I get is the rustling from inside my pocket, which the voice recorder mic picks up.I have to be grateful that the wind was as light as it was otherwise the whole film would have been ruined.
@@MrMB2652For the pan and zooms, I size my images to 4000 pixels along the longest edge and for the full screen 1080 pixels along the shortest edge so they fill the vertical on a 1080p TV. I let the long edge do whatever unless it exceeds 1920pixels in which case I go with 1920 pixels as my longest dimension. For full screen just crop 1080 x 1920. I only ever use 300 ppi.
