      It was founded by Ivo Lukačovič, founder of Seznam.cz, which is basically czech "Google" (and that is why Google gives us new features among the first ones to compete :) ) and he is an avid helicopter pilot and even owns an airport right next to Prague :) So that is maybe why.

    First time commenting on your channel. Just joined your channel, too, as a supporting member. Have enjoyed your videos for some time now. I am 60+ years old and, after many starts and stops, plan to realize my dream of getting my private pilot license this year. Excited to see your videos about your upcoming around-the-world trip. Very inspiring! Thanks for all you do to create and put up these excellent videos!

    Nice video thanks ! but why filming it at the F1 ?

    • @StefanDrury
      @StefanDrury  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why not? Thought it would be more interesting than just filming it in a room or in one location. Just trying to keep it varied and creative.

    i would get notability it is around $5 and you can annotate, write notes and everything you could possible want, it is made for the apple pencil! it is a great app and defiantly if you are copying long taxi, or flight routing instructions as you have unlimited space and you can go back and delete things if need be. give it a try, i think it will make a large difference!!!! @stefan Drury

My base is “the flying ranch”, LSPN, in the heart of Switzerland. Anyway: enjoy your adventure😎

    Doesn't ForeFlight replace like 4 of them? Does flight plan filing worldwide, has Jeppesen Charts (even geo referenced), can use Flightstream, etc. Okay you can't update your Garmin hardware but i assume you don't do that every day.

  • @perrypike90
    @perrypike90 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Stephan, I take it you hit the lottery? How can you possibly afford this around the world flying adventure? You just mentioned that it’s over $3000 for just the one app,, and that’s not including the cost of Garmin. Then you have to figure in the cost for all the fuel you’re going to be using. Your gonna put some serious miles on EYZ let alone how many hours. By the time you get back it’s going to be time to overhaul the engine and yearly annual. Send me your easy money making program so that I may take part to get my leather crafting venture up and off the ground. I hope you have a lot of sponsors otherwise it’s going to be one painfull adventure. And adventure is what it’s gonna be. Don’t get me wrong I hope you can pull this around the world trip off. It will be the adventure of a lifetime.

      I have a USB charger that fits in the auxiliary power. A fuse is built into the unit, as an added bonus. If that doesn't work, I carry a power bank. For long trips, I carry 2 power banks. Also, FBOs are generally happy to charge your devices behind the desk while you grab lunch.

    I have FltPlanGO on my iPad and it is free. At least in the US you can have all of the charts, Victor routes, approaches and departures and a database of all of the airports with information such as FBOs, fuel prices, METARs and TAFs and other information. You just need an email address to get all of it. With you being in Australia, I don't know if you would just get the AUS information or if you could get all of the info that I do. One reason that Jeppesen is so expensive now is that it is a part of the Boeing Company along with ForeFlight.

    I've only ever flown privately across the Canada-U.S. border. The Americans want eAPIS entering and leaving the country plus a chat with the CBP dudes when you land. Coming back to Canada you just phone it in. 99% of the time they don't even meet you at the airport, just do the customs stuff over the phone. "Here's your report number. Have a nice day."

      Thanks VFRAv, glad you like Windy too, amazing app. And thanks re Garmin sponsorship, maybe, who knows. I could try and approach Bose again, but y'know... :)

    This was very cool but you are at risk of making this look easy.
    But you're right, you'll need some Netflix or whatever plus I recommend 'Monument Valley' for hours of mental stimulation.

    Because of heritage I've been (and still am) a Ferrarista. It's becoming harder and harder to justify that loyalty but, hey...pasta rulez, right? 🤣👍

      Yeah it's changed a lot over the years, but there's still something really special about Ferrari of course. And anything related to Italy is fantastic in my humble opinion, love the country, the people, and yes the pasta!

    Hi Stef who / how will you be organising “overfly or entry permits” and ground logistics? Will this form one of your TH-cam’s ?

    • @StefanDrury

      Yes I’ll cover this in a future video, but I have a company helping with clearances and handling through certain regions.

    The most important question that has been bugging me is whether you’ll be flying with a three of four Bladed prob. For (fuel) efficiency and stuff..

    • @StefanDrury
      @StefanDrury  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      3 blade for the RTW trip. It’s stronger than the composite blade, and a tiny bit less drag in the cruise. So I’m happy to sacrifice a little climb performance and the aerodynamic braking benefits of the 4 for the economy of the 3.

    Great post. Having very limited XC exoerience, what is Jeppesen providing that was not included in your RocketRoute briefing package?

    • @StefanDrury
      @StefanDrury  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Kim, Jeppesen gives me all the charts (Instrument Approaches, taxi diagrams, etc) for when I'm flying, whereas the Briefing Pack for RocketRoute gives me current information along the specific route I'm flying and forms I need to get in and out of countries. Think of it like RocketRoute is preparation for the flight, Jeppesen is how I fly the flight.

    Hi Stef great video. Do you use LogTen for a digital logbook or still paper? I use both but especially LogTen for all the analytics you can do.

      Thanks Grant, I use a paper logbook but also have a digital backup which is a simple cloud based spreadsheet.

    I was gonna recommend you to create an autorouter account, but seems rocket route already does the same. It basically checks for the optimal route, taking current and filed traffic into consideration, aswell as giving an alternate as need be. It is a service by eurocontrol. And you can, by what I have been told file your flight plan directly there. You also can save different airplanes as a preset including all those things such as perfomance charts and basically have the entire weight and balance and so on be done automatically.
    Anyway, before i write much more, I am really excited about seeing your preparations for the upcoming trip and the videos of the trip. Best wishes

    • @StefanDrury
      @StefanDrury  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Blackout. I've heard of Autorouter but as you say I can get similar functionality from RocketRoute for routing especially through Eurocontrol and can validate a flight plan before I file it. Makes pre-planning a lot easier and RR does have weight and balance and aircraft performance capabilities, but I'm not using those. Only using it to check/file flight plans.
