A few people mentioned the distance planner tool is only available to premium (paid) users of the Windy app. My bad, I didn't notice that. I do pay for a premium subscription to Windy mainly because it's an awesome product and I want to support the developers. But you can absolutely get loads of useful and accurate weather information from just the free version. But my apologies if that is confusing from the video. Thanks everyone who mentioned that 🙏 stef

Be very careful with an iPad on the flight deck. (Or any loose objects). A Chinook went down not so long back, when the pilot monitoring dropped an iPad down on to the anti-torque pedals. When pilot flying applied pedal input , the pedals jammed. The PM could not reach down to retrieve the iPad due their harness. It was all over in a few seconds.
Fly safe - learn from the mistake of others; and not your own.
    Take care.

You omitted an app preference for log books. The data should include breakdowns of VMC, IMC/IFR, day/night, PIC/PM, student/instructor/check pilot, touch-and-goes, full stops, takeoff/landing airfields, with aircraft types/tail numbers and maintenance squawks. A great feature would be to automatically back up the data to the cloud, especially if the tablet is damaged, lost, or stolen.

I hadn't noticed the "Route Planning" button in Windy before (which is skipped over in the video -- that's what brings up the VFR/IFR/etc menu). However, the really useful "weather during the flight" stuff is blurred out... you have to pay for "Premium" Windy to get it. Likewise 10-day forecasts. :(

Windy is great! I know some Important People who use it, unofficially, to supplement official weather data.
I've flown with a Bad Elf GPS for years and its app draws pretty maps. Much better GPS data than the iPad's internal GPS. Best of all, it amuses me. 🙂

Google Earth is even better. It includes three-dimensional terrain and partly 3D buildings.
