It's unfortunate that you put out this review today because BYD just launched the 2025 Seal in China today. It has a lot of improvements: LiDAR and greatly enhanced ADAS, 800V architecture allowing much faster charging than this 150kW (optimistically) version, SiC modules allowing greater efficiency, a new 12-in-1 motor with a maximum speed of 240 km/h. Same battery capacity and acceleration. If anyone's interested in the Seal, I'd recommend waiting for the 2025 version.
Not unfortunate, it means that the new one is even better...
It's now even better. Not sure when the new one will be available in Europe. But for now, we still get this one
800v architecture mostly you can enjoy that in China. Most countries are behind ev charging tech, plus it will take another 2-3years before it they will export it. Most of the time they test in locally in China before exporting it.
The only unfortunate thing is that unless you live in China or can afford the 100% US regime and EU tariffs, it's out of reach.
And the new 2025 BYD Seal is Equipped with a brand new DiSus-C intelligent body control system suspension
Have had a Seal Performance, Excellence for you. Great review. One thing the glass roof really keeps out the heat of our 40c summers. Way better than the model 3 or any other pano roof we’ve had or tested. It has a special silver layer to reject heat. Just an FYI as we’ve had it nearly a year. Cheers from Australia
Thanks for reporting that. Sounds promising! Do you still enjoy the car?
Great to hear. I've been worried about the sunroof because of Aussie summers, so this is great news. Thanks!
The Danish viewer said it all. I couldn't agree more. Best review I've ever seen. Thank you from Germany 😂
Thanks mate!
I agree - but he most definitely isn't danish 😂
🙏

I was referring to another comment by a Danish guy. Not to the Swedish author of the review. 😅
@@MikeP59DE arh sorry - my bad 😅
You have by far the best and always most detailed review, great video - and what a great and nice looking car from BYD. All the best from DK.
Thank you mate! ⭐Greetings from Stockholm
They look amazing when you see one on the road. Possibly the best looking sedan ive seen, esp at this price level
Yes, I agree!
It's a lovely car. Beautiful in Black too. I did a 4k close up video with a Black one. Stunning.
Only seen it in black in a car hall. Looked great though. Will check your video out
Like with most EVs the RWD single motor version is the best value, longest range and most practical. Both versions are awesome. SEAL design is gorgeous.
Agree! And in most cases RWD is more than enough. I wish they had an excellent version without AWD
I went with the RWD, I just wish it had the HUD, I don't need all that power (or, insurance cost, tbh)
@ThePrimateKing nice choice! Do you enjoy it?
@@ItsOnlyElectric yep, it's a very nice drive. A fun, and practical car to drive for us.
Charging speed or range hasn't been an issue here in the UK, approaching about 5000km driven, and with a couple of holiday trips on it.
My biggest complaint is the auto lights can be a bit sensitive on bright days.
It looks great, and we get a lot of unsolicited comments on it when out and about :)
@ThePrimateKing cool! Nice to hear. 5000km is a good amount of distance
A TH-camr in Australia owns a Seal and a Model Y and Model S he has done a full video on the heat through the glass roof in his Model Y vs his Seal and thanks to the silver coating on the Seal glass it has a massively lower temp coming into the car unlike the Tesla. I also love the look of the Seal and would have chose it but I needed more space in the back for ability to haul things like lawn mowers and beekeeping gear and only am a single parent so one car(2024 Kona EV) not two but if I had two the Seal would be by other choice. I'd like to rent one at some point in future just to see how it goes. The other thing not sure if Sweden gets it is a lighter interior colour option which I prefer to help lower interior temps.
Here we can choose between this black or kind of a light blue interior
Hej 👋🏽 great review as always. Not a big fan of the interior design, too “wavy” or sea related for me, but overall, I think it’s a good car. BYD is promising for the future 🙂
Looking forward for the video around the range and the noise level
Tjena! Thanks mate!
After getting used to Teslas interior this is a bit to "noisy" but still ok I think. Especially when compared to Dolphin and Atto 3.
Range and noise tests on the way.
I think interior design is so subjective, the wife and I loved the seal interior, especially the wave design 😂 but not really big fans of the M3
About the panoramic roof. The seal panoramic roof is silvercoated and handles the heat better than for example Tesla. It also comes issued with physical covers but they are manually mounted.
The seal gets OTA updates regularly that actually changes things for the better.
The new updated seal will most likely also future Lidar support and a new interior design, a more brownish colour. Higher DC charging aswell.
Hopefully we also get super ITAC like in China. Which gives driftmode and higher top speed.
What do you think of the Seal vs the Han btw?
Thanks for sharing!
I did forgot to mention it in the video but I see no reason to go for the HAN over the Seal. The Seal eats the HAN alive. I have no idea about how BYD will be able to sell the HAN at all now with the Seal.
what is "super ITAC" ?
@@davids8345 its BYDs name for the intelligent torque vectoring. The Super ITAC is basicly another mode made for track/drifting that is available only for the chinese market.
@@UgglemannenFTW oh I see... Why isn't it globally available? Is it just a software thing or do the China vehicles have different hardware as well?
@@davids8345 What I know of it its just a software thing. But its hard to find information because of it being in chinese.
Very nice car! Currently have a BYD Atto 3, and I am very happy with it, great car. But my next one, might be this, the BYD Seal, or if they come to Sweden the Sea lion 07 or the Song L. Nice review man
Nice, Sea lion seems like a good alternative.
Thanks 🙏
@@ItsOnlyElectricNothing official confirmed, but maybe you know something "behind the scenes" if the Sealion 07 or Song L will come to Europe? Also great looking and speced electric cars from BYD.
Haven't heard anything from my contacts yet..
Have to say this is nice looking car, sporty and polished, no wonder they have former AUDI designer as chief designer
Agree!
Wow that's amazing 😍🤩 Love From Nepal 🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵
The actual brake pedal has blended braking, which also provides regeneration.
Yes BYD regen is more brake orientated.
Yes, almost all brands applies Regen when branding.. But I still think the option of OPD should excist.
@@ItsOnlyElectricAgree about OPD. The latest software in Australia already has stronger lift off regeneration in High mode, compared to the original launch software. Maybe they will add OPD as the next step.
Note that Teslas do not have blended brakes, they are friction brakes only.
@@vasil7410have had a Performance with the latest OTA update and the brake regen hasn’t changed since the original firmware last October. It has had the same amount on high as when factory new, which isn’t much at all.
@@Audios81 It's was different for me and the regen is quite good. Not OPD like my Tesla, but High regen in the Seal means I don't have to press the brake pedal a lot of the time. It's easy to swap between the Seal and the Tesla.
The best and informative Video about BYD SEAL , i have seen. One thing maybe you have to check, that BYD SEAL uses also LFP (LiFePO4) batery pack, said blade battery pack? Isn't that right?
It's LFP blade batteries. I said it wrong but the captions are correct. Thanks 🙏
Just ordered an excellence on company lease, arriving late November. I am not a fan of EVs and I'm currently driving a 3.0l A8, but I will give it a try. Thanks for the indepth review.
Cool, that's an exciting step to take. I hope you'll enjoy it
@ItsOnlyElectric not looking forward to long waits at service stations, probably cost me a fortune in coffee. My average daily trip is between 160-230 miles and around 40,000 miles per year
@tranquilmindspace501 wow that's a lot of travel!
Can’t wait till this comes to America
lol you can go to Maxico
Don't hold your breath!
The battery chemistry is not NMC but LFP - it's a BYD Blade Battery after all. just fyi :) love your reviews!
Did I say LFP? In the text I say LFP at least, my mistake. 😂
Thank you for your explanations. I also bought this model. But my question is, why is 4x4 not specified?
I don't get your question. The car in the test is an AWD.
Thank you for converting km to mph for us Americans
it's probably more for those in UK, Americans would need to wait until you have a more reasonable leadership.
No problem 🙏 I always do that .
Great Video! Are the assistance systems better now? I see older videos where these were unfortunately criticized.
Still far from other brands like Tesla, Xpeng, Nio, BMW.
Thx. for another great review...! How would you compare the BYD Seal to the XPeng G6?
G6 is a SUV and more practical, a bit unfair to compare. G6 has better charging, SW and self driving capabilities.
@@ItsOnlyElectric ...understood. But in the end , they roughly cost the same... would you say the G6 has also a better ride, comfort, noise insulation for long trips?
Both vars silent and comfortable. The G6 a bit more comfortable and faster charging for long trips.
I always wonder how long the seat padding will last. I hope it's better than most Citroëns...
31:12 - FYI the battery packs have already been confirmed for the 2025 model year - the packs are smaller in total kWh than the current packs - the largest pack will be 80.6kWh (net) which is slightly less than the current 82.5 kWh.
The range has actually decreased by a much larger factor than the change in net battery size, CLTC from 700km (old pack) to 650km (new pack) and WLTP from 570km to 530 km - not sure why this is the case.
Yes, but still only for Chinese version? I think it's two different production lines
@@ItsOnlyElectric Battery pack sizes also confirmed for Australia, New Zealand, Brazil & Thailand so far - In Australia & NZ we will get the first shipments in late Sep/early October
What makes me most upset is that they didn't go for byd blade 2.0.
I reckon the new gen of BLADE BATTERY will increase charging speed to about 180kW maybe higher.
Yes, 800v also so will be better charging if the conditioning is strong enough.
Where do you get spare parts and crash damage fixed?
In Sweden it's sold serviced and repaired by one of the biggest resellers.
@@ItsOnlyElectric So BYD don’t have their own sales and servicing garages? I haven’t seen a single BYD here in SW France.
@LysanderLH don't know their strategy for all European countries.
Game over for Tesla!
Great review! When will you do the review of Zeekr 001? It's a bit more expensive but very comparable to Seal and Han.
I'm picking up a Zeekr 001 privilege today. 😉
Looks great. Never tesla for me. Not supporting elons hate agenda.
So you buy Chinese? 😂😂😂
@@danzill13 definitely. Haven't seen them in any wars in a while, what say you?

looks great, but who knows about the longevity and services?
Will take time to prove. But in Sweden they havev Hedin bil as reseller and service partner. That at least creates some extra confidence.
Can you drive using the navigation and keep the cam on the tablet? I would like to see if they fixed the software.
Didn't try that. Sorry
Recently I rented a model 3 in Spain ....the solar roof at 39-40 degrees or even at around 30 degrees was getting extremely hot, bringing the heat inside. Did you have the chance to check that in the BYD? In Sweden I understand...it won't get that hot but still...
Not close to those temps here. My test was in around 20. 🥳
Not sure if you noticed this during the test drive, I did yesterday on my second test drive trying to decide between this and the IONIC 6, I accidently whilst trying to lean forward to pick up a sweet which i put on the charging pad for safe keeping managed to knock the car out of drive at 25mph, why is this possible, i cant do it in the tesla m3 we have but i can in the seal, not sure if it would go all the way to R but this needs to be addressed in an update where you cant change drive mode when going over say +_5 mph
You put into neutral I guess? That possible with most cars. Not R.
@@ItsOnlyElectric Yeh it went into N, prestty sure the tesla wont do this not like i have tried, you think most EV will do this ?
@gavinbillington7193 i know that a lot EVs do go into neutral.
@@gavinbillington7193 Tesla go into neutral but you need to hold the stalk up for a second for it to do it.
Cool car but I would wait for the refreshed version that should be released quite soon
It's official in China. Not sure when it hits Europe.
Is that the Shadow Green colour?
Yes, amazing color
The BYD is just about to release the new Seal, it will get the same interior of the Sea Lion, it will look a lot more like the dynasty series. It will also get LiDAR option and other equipment.
I personally like more this current interior design, it is more sporty. But both are very great.
Looking forward to test the updated version. But will take a while before it's available in Europe I guess.
If you buy an electric car, you will never want to drive a fuel car again. They are completely products of two different eras.
Totally agree!
Small corrections to your captions: You mis-typed 'length', and it's Kerb Weight (as in 'the empty vehicle weight at the kerbside'), not Curb Weight. The two words sound similar, but they have very different meanings. Because....English. 😉 And people in these islands have to live with the language!
Haha!! Thank you for noticing will correct in upcoming videos 💪
Current charge speed is the only real Achilles Heel of this car, hope the soon to be released Sealion 7 has a faster charge
Yeah the seal has a 800V architect but charges slower than a 400V system...very strange.
Here In Norway It's just two small weeks 🏁 of waiting again for my Black Seal 4x4 Excellence (Performance AWD) to arrive , Nice REvIEW
Cool! Let me know how you like it once you get it 💪
I could rent/test a Seal Premium (RWD, long range) for a week. It is a very comfortable and powerful car (even too powerful for me). Unfortunately, the seating positions i too low for me and the Seal is too big for my needs. I also don't like the trunk.
I own a BYD Dolphin since 1 year (more than 26,000 km) and I am very satisfied with the car. Unfortunately, the lights and the ADAS is not as good as with the Seal.
Thank you for sharing! Congratulations to the Atto 3
You can adjust the seating positions vertically((up/low).
I think the Design is the more “practical” version. Better range and almost the same features. I think the only difference is heated steering wheel and ITAC? (And less range). But if you need that 3.8seconds…then there’s no choice. Lol
But not AWD. If you don't expect snow that much you will be perfectly fine.
Her the price difference is so low for what you get. HUD, active dampers , AWD etc
Good deal for real!
Can you exchange battery?
No
Nice review. You guys pay a lot of taxes on these as in Australia the top spec one works out to be less than €40k. Even Tesla have dropped €10k from the new model 3 to remain price competitive. This price war will only improve down under as we have around 10 new electric vehicles coming by the end of 24. As we no longer have a car industry to protect the government no longer imposes ridiculous import tariffs like the USA does (as one example).
That's good for the consumers!
Did i see you in Lidingö with this car few days ago ? :)
Driving around in most parts of Stockholm when testing, so not impossible. But haven't been too Lidingö with this one. 🤔
Can you not alter regen with a voice command?
You probably can but couldn't find a working command.
How is it compared to Nio ET5?
ET5 feels more premium especially on the inside.
This car is very nice. I drove one the other day. My only problem with it, at least here in Denmark, is that BYD is relying on a third party company for sell and maintenance. Kinda weird business setup. Not sure how reliable this is.
Isn't that the way all companies worked the last 50 years?
In Sweden It's quite bad in my own experience.
MAPS when driving North/South are better in Vertical/Portrait. YES BYD has translation issues across all languages...maybe a Bot is doing it. Local humans matter.
Good point, didn't test that. 👍
Looks way better and also less common than the Tesla.
8:13 Looks great but still non adjustable headrest, if one have let's say "good posture" and not "gaming neck" it's simply torture to sit in, just like Volvo Zeekr any Korean or Japanese car... My Toyota I replaced with VSG headrest with adjustable in forward position, but I want to change car but still cannot find any good hybrid (skoda and VW has but don't want them) or Ev that let me sit in a proper posture 😢
My posture is bad so they work for me. 😂
But headrests are bad in most EVs. You need to jump up a notch and look at bigger cars from BMW, MB, XPeng, Nio etc to get really adjustable ones.
@@ItsOnlyElectric Your right, but actually not only EV, so far all brands are terrible and doing it in the name of "crash safety" so far I never crashed at all and I would argue that the bad posture is over time worse than any potential neck injury....
Then again Im not normal case, most people have poor posture :(
@JoelBergmark I guess you want it to be able to push backwards so you can sit more straight ?
@@ItsOnlyElectric Not so extreme x axis adjustment just have back and neck support on the same y axis is more or less fine.
I bought a VGS headrest and it fits in my Toyota so replaced driver side and it's almost perfect. But most new cars I tested. Don't have the steal legs so not possible to replace 🤦
Najs bil. Men köper hellre en zeekr om jag inte köper en model 3 performance igen.
Ok. Teslan blir det. 😊 💪
Testar Zeekr 001 nästa v. 👍
This is not a fully dedicated electric platform - BYD make a hybrid version of the Seal with an internal combustion engine.
Sure about that? Seal uses e platform 3 and is ev only.
@@ItsOnlyElectricIt’s called the BYD Seal 07 DM-i
@froggy0162 but that's another platform
@@froggy0162that's a different car on a different platform.
BYD releases hybrid version as Seal sales in China are poor, Too many competitors in this segment
I thought this was a redesign but I think it's a first for the Chinese market.
The newer model has a much better interior and there are changes in battery charging, etc. So this model will not be relevant for long.
I guess BYD reduces battery weight by 20% and do not add extra 20% cells (potentially price cut...)
Also a good point. Cheaper cars to the people!
looks ok, but I personally, would never be caught dead in a Chinese car
I love the Seal but ultimately picked the Ioniq 6 over it
Nice, what was the main reason to go for the Ioniq 6 at the end?
@@ItsOnlyElectric That’s a really good question! The infotainment/dash of the Seal seemed a bit ‘immature’ and half baked to me with a lot of useless info. Some people love it bit for me it wasn’t my thing.
The lack of a centre front sensor also makes it slightly harder to park in tight spaces, am aware it has two front side sensors next to the headlights but these just aren’t enough to properly detect objects directly in-front.
I’ve got my Ioniq 6 for three years, which i feel is a direct competitor to the Seal along with the Model 3 (which is never going to be an option for me bc of Elon), the BMW i4 and possibly the Polestar 2. I’ll be checking back in with BYD when my Ioniq 6 lease is over, and hopefully they’ll have fixed a lot of the teething issues that a lot of people see with it, because the Seal is an absolutely beautiful car to look at.
The Ioniq 6 is a great car. The current seal looks better but currently there's not good enough to replace I6. The next gen Seal maybe.
AT LAST !!!
No shades to tesla but I'm really not a fan of Tesla's over minimalistic interior design. It's not luxurious nor practical in my POV. I think even in EVs, they need more traditional cabins
BYD has sold 8,000,000 NEVs (they are currently building at least 6 plants outside of China that will take them to 18,000,000 by 2030). What does this prove? It proves that outside of the Church of TESLA most people don't give a shit about software, AP, AI and such they just want to drive their car or truck. For anyone going from a cheaper, earlier EV to a Seal 150kW charging is double or triple what they had before. Even though the later NISSAN Leaf (2021 with 62kWh pack) can charge to 100kW how many CHADEMO stations do you see that are better than 60kW max and average only 50kW? If you go from a Leaf or Kona or E-Niro to a SEAL you don't have any complaints...OKAY the Leaf has one-pedal...I will concede that. But overall it is night versus day.
Their growth rate is amazing. Will be very interesting to see how the market share looks 5 years from now
@@ItsOnlyElectric Do you know about the 100,000 vehicle BYD/Uber deal ?
Yes, that's big. Don't know any details though.
The sell a lot of cars in China - they sold fewer than 300,000 BEVs ouside of China in 2023 almost all to Australia, SE Asia and South America. They are yet to break into Europe in any meaningfull way.

Yes, not in Europe yet..
It has the same problem as every other ev in Sweden, the price is way too high. Also the high electricity prices does not help.
Electricity prices currently record low if you charge at home. But agree on the fact that car prices really need to get lower. But there just is a matter of time.
@@ItsOnlyElectric Not sure about record low? My last electric bil, I paid almost exactly 1sek / kwh :) But I guess it depends on where you live, I am in SE3. And I used to have low rate, but when my contract ended it went up like a rocket lol. :)
@@ItsOnlyElectric had to check, in 2021 July I paid 467sek for electricity, and in 2020 july I paid 337 sek.. now it was over 1000 sek :/
Is it because of Sweden has high tax on EV or the dealership/middle man? BYD is known for it builds almost all parts of its cars, so cost is not a problem, unlikely they would directly sell cars abroad at the same high prices like the European ones.
BYD are building a factory in Hungary that should help against EU Tariffs.
