To be fair he pretty much always uses kosher salt, which looks like a lot if you compare it to table salt. One pinch of table salt is like 2-3 pinches of kosher salt.
I appreciate how ramsay is a multimillionaire but he still takes the time to mention the cheapness of some of these dishes and the little meal prep tips. Wholesome, humble guy.

For real? This show is written and scripted to appeal to the masses and make Gordon appear relateable. There's a vast number of people working on this, a small industry if you will including the "creative team" coming up with his lines and the decoration of the studio (or the part of his house) .You make it sound as if Ramsay is making lunch and happens to encounter a bloke with a camera who films it. I think that nothing of this isn't in some way "improved" or "enhanced". They propably do many takes on all the scenes...
The way he narrates, talks about food, he could even make my life seem interesting. Love the way you cook and share the knowledge Gordon! Thanks for this!
Going to point out that there are very different salt's. kosher salt is a very airy salt where as table salt is very concentrated. So where as a handful of table salt is alot for a airy salt it may not be alot. No excuse for the milk though half a bottle is not a touch.
@@generalharness8266 It's a pretty small bottle. If you use his hand as scale you can tell. It's pretty normal chiefs language. Touch, pinch, handful, etc. It's not very exact and with most ingredients it's often not important to be exact. Unless you are baking. That's very exact in many cases.
He is using diamond crystal kosher salt. Much less salty. Like less than half of normal kosher salt. That’s why it looks like he’s using a ton. You can use a lot of it and get a great not too salty flavor. Best for grilled meat too.
That's one hell of a compliment, as an american, thank you for recognizing our love for extremely hearty, rich and overindulgent breakfasts. That bacon looked delicious!
It is coarse salt, so it looks like more in volume compared to regular table salt which is much more fine. But it is less salt because the same volume of coarse salt is much less dense than the same volume of fine salt. So when adding coarse salt to any dish it will look like a lot more salt than you would need if you are used to fine salt.
@@TheGeenat It really isn't, if you paid attention to what I said you would realize it. If you crushed down what he added to a finer consistency it would only be about roughly two teaspoons which for soup is a good amount.
Gordon: "Time for a thrifty lunch" - makes loaded corn and potato soup with scratch biscuits. Me: "Time for a thrifty lunch" - pushes #2 on microwave to heat up a hot pocket 😂😂
All of that soup would last you so much longer than a comparable amount of hot pockets dollar for dollar. That entire pot of soup is literally like 8 dollars (can of cream corn: ~50 cents. Same goes for the soup stock. 2 potatoes comes out to like 30 cents. Onions are also roughly the same price. Milk is a few dollars per gallon. Butter, multiple sticks for a couple dollars... you get my point) Have fun with your 10 hotpockets that will leave you hungry after an hour and offers little in the way of nutritional value. Also the biscuits are cheap to make as well and biscuits also increase how full you are, especially when paired with soup. Only lazy (or i guess ignorant) people think that processed microwaved food is cheaper than cooking your own food.

Europe doesn't smoke their bacon, Asia doesn't have a breakfast equivalent, and Africa just passed on it. Asia does have a variety of thick sliced pork belly, but nothing the US would call bacon.
If you've also never bought "slab bacon", literally just unsliced bacon, you're missing out. Cut it into thick lardons (1"x1/4" matchsticks), render it out in a cast iron, remove, then use the fat to roast up some brussels sprouts or some other veg. Add the bacon back in at the end.
@@spzaruba5089 Europeans do smoke their bacon. In the the UK we get either back bacon or streaky bacon, both of which can be smoked or unsmoked. I know 3 things. People watch Gordon to cook his tutorials. People watch Gordon because food tutorials are therapeutic. People watch Gordon for his attitude (whether passionate towards food or completely merciless towards people). That third one is kinda all of us.
It’s different though, this is for home cooks mostly, people on a shoestring budget or just starting out on their cooking journey. It’s not always possible for people to access fresh produce all of the time so they need to make do with what they can get and I love that he showcases this. Your point is totally valid though, it sounds contradictory until you analyse who the target audience is. His kitchen nightmares, he is talking to people in the business, not just an amateur home cook.
It's really simple. People don't go to eat in a restaurant to get canned and frozen stuff. Especially if establishment position itself as having fresh and local ingredients, as many of the restaurants in Kitchen Nightmares did. You accept the fact that if you go to a fast food place everything will arrive packaged and frozen, half the time just needing reheating. But not in an establishment where you pay 25$ for a single dish. At home, however - canned and frozen foods are a godsend. Since it allows you to eat healthy on a budget.
Huh...I've been preparing pretty much that exact same "soup" for somewhat around 20 years now. Mostly for parties where drinking was involved. This really can keep you going all night long...well at least in terms of drinking.
@@him050 People who don't want to pass out when the party just started? At some point you just NEED some food in your system to keep on going and soup tends to not break your teeth when it comes out the way it got in...if you know what I mean.
When making the hashbrowns, I might suggest holding off on the olive oil and the various seasonings until after you've squeezed the water out. Do add salt though, that will help with extracting water.
@@WickdGamr Yep. He knows that it's not economical for you to do absolutely everything fresh at home. So you focus on the primary ingredients being the best and as fresh as you can, and things like stocks, bulk and freeze. But if you're going to pay money for a dish at a restaurant it better not be something that you could pull out of the freezer at the house.
I learned a lot from watching these videos. I learned always buy food at the beginning of the week and cook everything at the end by turning them into soup and storage them so you can repeat the process for next week. You save a ton of money, but honestly a lot of time in the kitchen. What I learned through a really good chef can make dishes on what's on sale at the market. My Dad always made random shit throughout the week, now I know why. Cause he cooks based on pricing.
Crazy how this pops up right after I got done cooking bacon.. Edit: I am legit salivating over these dishes. Them cheese biscuits! and caramelized bacon over that hash brown..what a tease!
Gordon Ramsay does American inspired cuisine all the time. Its a great cuisine, only lame "I hate murican" idiots think its terrible. It is much better than native British cuisine which is quite universally accepted as bad.
@Hasi Mausi There's plenty of American dishes lol, many of them you can't even exactly specify its European origins. Perhaps the most prominent is the American BBQ. Virtually no other cuisine in the world has an extensive list of low and slow cooking of meat, with the long process of dry rubbing and marinating that goes into it. With this weak logic you can pretty much take away cuisine from any more modern, even modern European country since they probably "stole it" or was inspired by a neighbouring country.

well he has to make food that we all can relate to otherwise nobody would care to watch him, and watching him is where he makes most of his money.
he may well make common food for the camera and then after the video throw it in the trash while saying "peasant scum food" and then he gets his caviar and lobster out of the fridge and munches down on it. you wouldn't know would you
@@bkbk4003 If there's one thing chefs never do it's waste food. That's the reason ramsay is so good at what he does. He takes the time in somewhat simple foods so that way they're enjoyable for everyone. But you clearly know so much more than we do about Ramsay's lifestyle.
He also came from a poor background, so knowi g how to do things on the cheap for him is very important
It was only like a 3 or 4 finger pinch which was not a lot. Watch again
He is using diamond crystal kosher salt. Much less salty. Like less than half of normal kosher salt. That’s why it looks like he’s using a ton. You can use a lot of it and get a great not too salty flavor. Best for grilled meat too.

It is coarse salt, so it looks like more in volume compared to regular table salt which is much more fine.
But it is less salt because the same volume of coarse salt is much less dense than the same volume of fine salt.

Gordon: "Time for a thrifty lunch" - makes loaded corn and potato soup with scratch biscuits.
Me: "Time for a thrifty lunch" - pushes #2 on microwave to heat up a hot pocket 😂😂
Tbf, one portion of that soup probably costs less than your hot pocket.
Now that I've watched a lot of Kitchen Nightmares, it's weird seeing Gordon recommending fresh frozen or ready-made ingredients
Never thought I'd see you here, fellow shrimp
It's really simple. People don't go to eat in a restaurant to get canned and frozen stuff. Especially if establishment position itself as having fresh and local ingredients, as many of the restaurants in Kitchen Nightmares did. You accept the fact that if you go to a fast food place everything will arrive packaged and frozen, half the time just needing reheating. But not in an establishment where you pay 25$ for a single dish. At home, however - canned and frozen foods are a godsend. Since it allows you to eat healthy on a budget.

@@him050 People who don't want to pass out when the party just started? At some point you just NEED some food in your system to keep on going and soup tends to not break your teeth when it comes out the way it got in...if you know what I mean.
wat
When making the hashbrowns, I might suggest holding off on the olive oil and the various seasonings until after you've squeezed the water out. Do add salt though, that will help with extracting water.
i think he did that to make sure it could crisp up, but not dry out in the oven
Why isn't this the top comment?
Really surprised I had to scroll so far for this.
yuh came here to say this wtf
Gordon: **gets angry over fresh frozen**
Gordon again: fresh frozen
fresh, frozen. not freshfrozen thats just him talking too fast as always
@@danielevans8000 its the same thing. He just fully supports having frozen foods at home. Not in a restaurant you pay good money at.
@@WickdGamr agreed
@@WickdGamr Yep. He knows that it's not economical for you to do absolutely everything fresh at home. So you focus on the primary ingredients being the best and as fresh as you can, and things like stocks, bulk and freeze. But if you're going to pay money for a dish at a restaurant it better not be something that you could pull out of the freezer at the house.
vegan teacher's getting so pissy its hilarious, gordon isn't the only person or chef who cooks meat. everyone does yet she goes after gordon.

I make random shit every day based on what I have in a fridge 😬
Crazy how this pops up right after I got done cooking bacon..
Edit: I am legit salivating over these dishes. Them cheese biscuits! and caramelized bacon over that hash brown..what a tease!

i feel like such a proud murrcan when he compliments american breakfast
I dare you to find what he made in an American kitchen!
Gordon Ramsay does American inspired cuisine all the time. Its a great cuisine, only lame "I hate murican" idiots think its terrible. It is much better than native British cuisine which is quite universally accepted as bad.
@@SmellsLikeNirvanna not that bad just bland and traditional
@Hasi Mausi There's plenty of American dishes lol, many of them you can't even exactly specify its European origins. Perhaps the most prominent is the American BBQ. Virtually no other cuisine in the world has an extensive list of low and slow cooking of meat, with the long process of dry rubbing and marinating that goes into it. With this weak logic you can pretty much take away cuisine from any more modern, even modern European country since they probably "stole it" or was inspired by a neighbouring country.
Its the finesse that makes his cooking. Not average ingredience, perfect. Not quick efficient work, tje extra 10%. Makes a large difference in preserving Vitamins and minerals in the food result....well done
Gordon let me get some of that time lmao 😂 you're always non-stop making multiple shows and doing so many things in such little. Its actually inspiring.
Getting paid to do what you're passionate about truly is the dream

Man if I could ever have Gordon Ramsey cook for me once that would be a good day
