I saw him in 1982, in Mobile, Alabama. My best friend and I went to it together. We actually went to several concerts together. Not Peter Frampton or Fleetwood Mac though, we hadn't met yet, she was a grade younger than me. Billy Squier's drummer is hilarious. He went ape shit on them drums. I'll never forget it. The concerts were great at the Mobile municipal auditorium, it was general admission, so if you got there really early, you can get right in front of the stage. I did it every time. One of the places in Dallas had general admission and my boyfriend and I went there for a few concerts. Ted Nugent was one of them. He's great in concert. He did only have his loin cloth on. 😂
I just turned 65, woke up singing to this song. Thankful to the Gods of Rock & Roll that my ears have heard and my feet have danced to the greatest music ever made by mankind.🙏

Dad bought me this cassette for Christmas when it came out. I was 10 or 11. He took me to see Billy with Pat Benatar a little while later. Dad was cool.

He asked for my address, said he had something he wanted to send me. I gave it to him. A few days later an envelope arrived in my mailbox. Inside? The ticket stub from THAT concert! Billy Squier and Queen at the glass house in Portland, OR!! He'd actually held onto our ticket stubs from that show for 40 years, and I was beyond blown away when he gifted me the stub of the ticket I'd used to enter the show on that amazing night!

It was a magical summer, for sure! We went to probably 15 or 20 shows that summer...Aerosmith, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Motorhead, Saxon, Girls School, Black Sabbath (with Dio), Ozzy (without Sabbath), Devo, Loverboy, Heart, Foreigner, Blue Oyster Cult, Sting, Cheap Trick.... wow, I'm sure I'm forgetting some! It was a great time to be a teen, for sure!

! Great backup band he had! The drummer and the other guitarist sadly passed away a couple of years ago.. Bobby chuinard and I forgot the guitarist name. The bass player was top notch and the keyboard player had strong backing vocals, overall a great band.

I am a mom of four boys and My youngest son was recently diagnosed at fourteen with severe schizoohrenia and this song seems to relate to some of the emotions I feel for him LOST in the dark 😢
Had to come back and tell you I listened to the song again right after my above comment, and I will never hear the song the same way again! And that's not a bad thing, for me, meaning now I have another association to go with this song., even though I'm sad that your misfortune resulted in my new association!! The second verse always reminded me of my older sister, as when the song was out, I was just starting to really "learn" about my sister, iykwim. I saw the show in Albuquerque in '83. Def Leppard opened and was excellent. Don't let anyone tell you different. Billy Squire crushed it that night. Both bands were my faves and I was so excited to see them both and see them both throw down. Excellent concert, and this song killed!
I saw the show at the Spectrum March 29 1983. Def Leppard opened also. I drove my 1972 Impala loaded with friends, despite not having any power steering from the Jersey shore.
Saw that same show in Atlanta! Was fantastic. Def Leppard was about to blow with Pyromania, but at the time Squier was at the top of his game with tons of hits!

As a GenX kid that grew up in the 80s and 90s I can honestly say that this song was badass in it's day and Bill Squire was underrated and under-appreciated.

This song and the stroke got my whole soccer team fired up in the 80's. Then blasting it in my Trans Am to look for chicks was some of the best memories of that time. 40 years my kids play it for my grandkids to fire them up before their sporting events.
In The Dark came out when I was living in SF. I couldn't get enough of it. I eventually moved back to the piney woods of East Texas, but "In The Dark" went with me. Still one of my all time faves.

Saw Squire open for Blue Oyster Cult at the Cow Palace in '79 and again a week or two later, I saw him open for Todd Rungren. They all did an amazing job. I feel blessed and honored to be able to see them at their prime.
I remember being about 17 or 18, so 91 or 92, and this guy in a badass '86 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe with a huge sound system was blasting "The Stroke" as he pulled up to the 1 four way stop light in Kearney, MO at 92 and 33. I stood there and thought "Now that guy is freakin' cool!".... I went and bought every Billy Squire CD i could find at Camelot. Then I was the one blasting Billy Squire in my car!

This is one great rock album... the swagger, the song writing, edgy, great guitar work... I don't understand the backlash against this guy a few years after this album, but he hits it out of the park with this gem.
It was from the MTV video for this song. I had forgotten about it until someone posted about it. It was considered trashy back then. I remember him being upset about the fuss made about it. No one would bat an eye at it today.
Homophobic young males killed his career because of "Rock Me Tonight." Today, it wouldn't even be a thing. Billy was straight anyway, but God forbid a man wear pink and silk and dance in the 80's.

The second verse always reminded me of my older sister, as when the song was out, I was just starting to really "learn" about my sister, iykwim.

I saw the show in Albuquerque in '83. Def Leppard opened and was excellent. Don't let anyone tell you different. Billy Squire crushed it that night. Both bands were my faves and I was so excited to see them both and see them both throw down. Excellent concert, and this song killed!

I saw the show at the Spectrum March 29 1983. Def Leppard opened also. I drove my 1972 Impala loaded with friends, despite not having any power steering from the Jersey shore.
I saw the same tour in Irvine, Ca. Was my first concert to go to at age 15. Great night with both bands.
I saw the show in Portland, ME. I also saw him the summer before in Worcester, MA. He opened for Pat Benatar that night. Both were awesome concerts!!
Saw that same show in Atlanta! Was fantastic. Def Leppard was about to blow with Pyromania, but at the time Squier was at the top of his game with tons of hits!

As a GenX kid that grew up in the 80s and 90s I can honestly say that this song was badass in it's day and Bill Squire was underrated and under-appreciated.

This song and the stroke got my whole soccer team fired up in the 80's. Then blasting it in my Trans Am to look for chicks was some of the best memories of that time. 40 years my kids play it for my grandkids to fire them up before their sporting events.

In The Dark came out when I was living in SF. I couldn't get enough of it. I eventually moved back to the piney woods of East Texas, but "In The Dark" went with me. Still one of my all time faves.

It made Forinigor sound bad. Maybe a bad night. Been a long time fan. I don't think Billy Squire opened for them anymore.

Saw Squire open for Blue Oyster Cult at the Cow Palace in '79 and again a week or two later, I saw him open for Todd Rungren. They all did an amazing job. I feel blessed and honored to be able to see them at their prime.

I remember being about 17 or 18, so 91 or 92, and this guy in a badass '86 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe with a huge sound system was blasting "The Stroke" as he pulled up to the 1 four way stop light in Kearney, MO at 92 and 33. I stood there and thought "Now that guy is freakin' cool!".... I went and bought every Billy Squire CD i could find at Camelot. Then I was the one blasting Billy Squire in my car!
Saw him in Huntsville Alabama back in 81 or 82. He opened up for Foreigner and blew them away! One of the best lyricist ever. Rock on Billy!

This is one great rock album... the swagger, the song writing, edgy, great guitar work... I don't understand the backlash against this guy a few years after this album, but he hits it out of the park with this gem.
It was from the MTV video for this song. I had forgotten about it until someone posted about it. It was considered trashy back then. I remember him being upset about the fuss made about it. No one would bat an eye at it today.
