Netflix's GENIUS Plan to Overthrow Crunchyroll
ฝัง

- Netflix has been heavily invested into the growth of its anime catalog. “Cyberpunk Edgerunners” just won anime of the year, and “the way of the house husband” animated a series many thought was impossible to do. Netflix clearly sees an opportunity in the Anime genre. They have been steadily increasing their library of titles over the past decade, with no signs of stopping. In fact, they are doubling down their investments into the genre, but there's one thing standing in their way.

True!
AI will beat piracy because the creator will also be the animator/distributor.

I’m not crazy about defending Netflix practices but Crunchyroll needs to be humbled badly
100% agree. I tried not to represent Netflix as some savior to the anime genre, but when you compare it to crunchyroll they look like saints 😂
Not only that, all we need right now is to make other companies give up their own streaming services (Disney+, Paramount+, Crunchyroll, Max, etc) and let Netflix ran all of these shows and movies in one platform instead, so NO ONE will waste their money into subscribing multiple platforms which is TOO EXPENSIVE let alone had enough money to afford their own house

Netflix ticked me off years ago when they showed support for snime then cancelled most of the shows, never getting an ending. I’ll trust netflix with anime after I go back 3 years later to see if they manage to complete most of their projects. They are king in cancelling shows.
Baki is and castlevaina seven deadly sins are the only ones on there i like netflix has good anime just not alot of anime

castlevania is not an anime, and the other two have dog shit animation
i quit Netflix after they kept increasing subscription prices and got rid of password sharing.
@@Ant_DawggIm horribly late but Season 2 was announced in january lol
I hope this doesn't happen. Netflix is the biggest culprit for upping their prices....
I hope it does, even if the price is high it’s beyond worth it, you have a huge library of releases like jjk, Naruto one piece all one piece movies and they just won anime of the year, they are gonna become the crunchy roll slayer if they lower their prices by a few bucks and continue the one piece series.
As an anime fan for almost 25years now, I really hope that the anime industry grows more, but more than that, is that the ANIMATORS will benefit directly also, especially with better wages and work life balance.
Yeah I think way less people would be so open about piracy if the animators, and behind the scenes workers were treated better than they are currently. It almost feels like supporting platforms like crunchyroll only enforces the awful working conditions in place right now.
@@ZellyJP Still wondering how much crack they were smoking at Crunchyroll to see any merit in High Guardian Spice.
I can dig American-made shots at anime but boy that was garbage.
You are old enough to know that anime becoming more popular has not improved the lives of those in the anime industry. The mangaka don’t get paid. The animators aren’t getting worked less or getting paid more. The services aren’t improved. The prices aren’t better
Ai gonna take their job in no time
@@ZellyJP They pay EVERYONE badly not just the animators... the pay for translators is also abysmal which give us bad translations and is super annoying.

Both own Sony, just they could connect both as form of if customer will want to buy thing or pay subscription. But this is just full subscrition.
foreal no more Funimation hiyah
Like yeah imagine logging into Funimation on March 31st and then the next day you get on and see it’s shut down you’re gonna think it’s a joke lol
Netflix has a habit of taking exclusive license to shows and then doing nothing about dubbing them. That's the only thing I hate about them. Also no typesetting.
whats not dubbed on netflix?
Netflix taking the crown from crunchyroll is just about the worst thing possible for the anime community. Sure, crunchyroll hasn't been great, but at least anime is their priority. Netflix has dozens of irons in the fire and just one of those is anime. It wouldn't be a focus for them.
It doesn't really matter though, netflix won't take over. They will just take funimation's spot as the runner up. They will continue to be the casual anime fan's place to watch main stream shows. Hidive has a better shot in the long run imo. Until then, Netflix will continue to get a handful of exclusives every season and crunchyroll will remain the big boss of anime in NA.
Yeah Netflix is notorious for not finishing series. This isn’t gonna end well.
I’m curious to see what Hulu does honestly because outside of crunchy role or other streaming services that only have anime Hulu has the most anime besides those services definitely more the Netflix does and curious to see what they do with Hulu original anime’s because I’ve noticed recently they have 4 or 5 anime that said they were Hulu originals and were all in there 1st season so it’s a pretty recent thing so interested to see where that goes
@@garrettstevens8299hulu is disneys place where they put everything they can’t put on disney+…i will say i do like some of the shows on hulu like Heavenly Delusion was quite enjoyable and there’s another show i want to watch on there can’t think of it at the moment but i much prefer hulu over netflix
Netflix has been good at honoring the translations so far. The voice acting on their exclusive anime is spot on. It's as if they try to base English voice actors on the japanese actors as best as they can.
Exactly, their Vinland Saga dub is top tier.
they absolutley do and they don't usually hire the same voice actors for EVERY fucking role and series unlike CR and funimation with the few acceptions
but atleast we don't get chris sabat in every fucking anime netflix makes or monica rial or josh grell
As long as they don't employ Jaimi Marchi
No only Englisgh, European dubbings are also great, in Edgerunners as production of Poland CD project was expectable that it will have good dubbings in Europe but like other random animes with Czech dubbing on Netflix really surprised me.

@@Natebeast35755 tbf, edgerunner's story feels very complete already. I don't think it needs another season.
The BIGGEST issue I have with anime on Netflix is the Character Limitation (42) and Line Treatment (2) it has for subtitles. In other words if you are watching an anime with a lot of dialog or multiple characters speaking at the same time you will only get some, not all, of what is said. One example is Komi Can't Communicate where there is A LOT of written dialog and/or characters speaking. Unless you can speak and read Japanese you're not getting much of what is said.
With subtitles is the best way, with the japanese VA feel more accurate. Dubbed versions are horrible, no matter how "good" are the foreign VA. The same for movies in English or Kdramas in Korean, I cannot stand their dubbed versions to my languange. Feels weird.
To be honest, if Netflix decided to not cut off 500 episodes off one piece and other anime, they easily win
They are doing a complete reboot of One Piece which streamlined story telling and updated animations.

As long as Oda is a part of production for The One Piece like he was for the original anime and the live action Im all for a One Piece with significantly better pacing
Oda has nothing to do with the current anime, that’s all Toei and it’s shown by the inconsistent quality
I don't think Oda needs to be a part of it. It was a big deal for live action because they're cutting out and amending a lot of the story, they condensed 45 episodes into 8 and the pacing wasn't even all that bad when that original 45 came out. but now they've got more than 20 years of chapters to work with, as long as they don't needlessly change the storyline they should be fine.
It's Wit studio it's in good hands.

Netflix still takes a year to add a season or straight up don’t add them like everything is spoiled or gone 😢
As long as Netflix keeps raising prices, I’ll stick with Crunchyroll. Recently cancelled my Netflix.
Price is also a big factor in this. If Netflix could do an anime only subscription for the same price as Crunchyroll then I’d be interested
you dumb?
Their library is very small compared to crunchyroll, it needs to be about $4-6 otherwise thats pointless to do, imo nothing can beat crunchyrolls price even if its $10-15, for the amount of anime they have, being over 300-1000 anime titles they acquired w/ funimation. I like ur brilliant idea, I just will be surprised if it ever happens.
100%, the closest option left is an ad supported plan. But at that point who wouldn’t pirate?
Me who is a pirate: “I see this as an absolute win”
One decision that Netflix made that I was confused about was their One Piece streaming. They made a huge jump from after ace's death straight to Egghead, skipping Punk Hazard, Dressrosa, and Wano.
I wouldnt mind if Netflix put up some old Anime shows that are hard to get. Maybe a translated version of Dangaioh or Macross series.

My only problem with anime on Netflix was the absolutely HORRENDOUS handling of JoJo pt. 6 Stone Ocean… Batch releases every like 3-6 months, it was so f***ing ass. The build up for the hype around Stone Ocean was insaneeeee on Twitter, there were literally accounts dedicated to “Is Stone Ocean animated yet?” That would tweet everyday with massive followings for YEARS, no joke… they released like 12 episodes out of 36 or something for the first batch, everyone was hype to get something about Stone Ocean, but it was so s*it because in Japan they released everything at once or at least simulcasted, can’t remember entirely, what I do remember is everyone here in the West getting absolutely shafted by Netflix. The way it was released decimated the hype, nobody talked about it anymore cause everyone would binge the 12 episode batches then literally just F-off & wait till the next batch release. I remember finishing Stone Ocean 1 year after episode 1 released, cause of the abominable batch-release method. I’m glad to see Netflix stepping up to challenge the Crunchyroll monopoly, I just REALLY hope they learned from the handling of Stone Ocean to never do batch-releases again.
Agreed.
Choose better anime. Jojo is so 19990's emo cringe. Could get past episode 3
If you thought that was bad, Uncle from another world was another anime on there which would release one episode or so maybe once every few months or whenever. At least with CR there's usually a weekly episode as it comes out from Japan's services as well.

Anime isn't exactly a genre. Anime is a type of animation that comprises many genres.
I would say Animation is the overarching medium, with Anime being its own genre. But I can see what youre saying and I think its all just how personal definition define anything animated.
@PYeah, I get what you're saying, but shonen, seinen, esakal, fantasy, action, shoujo... are more like genre within the style of Japanese animation that is anime. Note only outside of Japan is even decaffeinated from other forms of animation. In Japanese, the term anime is used to refer to all animated works, regardless of style or origin.
I’d say anime is a genre of animation with many genres of style and many genres of story telling
I would call Anime a visual medium, similar to animation as a whole but a sub medium, with genres branching from it.
@@ZellyJP anime is just a type of animation rooted in Japan, which grew alongside any other country's animation style. It's just that American and Japanese animation became the most popular. They both include different genres. In Japan, all cartoons or animations are called "anime", for example. Anime is just the Japan-rooted representation of the notion of "animation"; saying "anime is a genre" is like saying "Bollywood is a genre" - kind of.
I'm happy to have more competition in the anime space with Netflix, Crunchyroll, and HiDive all pushing each other.
The perks of anime coming to Netflix specifically is that a dub is almost always guaranteed, but the downside is that it can take years or maybe even never for an anime to get a Bluray release. I'm glad Sentai recently gave us a physical release for Carole & Tuesday, but I'm not holding my breath for Cyberpunk Edgerunners because Little Witch Academia, another Trigger anime, has yet to see a Western Bluray release despite releasing in 2017.
Very true. Streaming services in general have stripped the consumer of things that used to be commonplace for every new series. Time to start burning CD's again 😂

Some of the foreign distributors are getting access of the American dub tracks. I've bought 3 from China that have them.
I'm not, it's stupid having to buy 3 different subscriptions to watch shit
One thing I haven’t heard a lot of talk about is Hulu which I find interesting because outside of anime only streaming services they have the most anime on there platform by far it’s actually pretty impressive considering it’s not an anime streaming platform I will say they have cut down on the number of anime they have had but it’s still quite impressive and all I’ve seen about 4 or 5 Hulu original anime’s they have on there which I think
Is a pretty recent thing because there all in there 1st season so we will see how that pans out because I haven’t watched them to see if there are even good yet

Whats interesting is that CR is likely just a popular streaming platform in the West but I don't think it is exactly in Asia or some Eastern parts of the world.
When I was in the Philippines, I logged into my CR account and there was next to nothing on it with a Philippines internet connection. Maybe 20 or so entries.
