    The Binghamton Rumble Ponies stadium is pronounced “NICE-EGG”. It stands for New York State Electric and Gas. The reason why there is so much blue is bc the team before the ponies main color was blue ( RIP Binghamton Mets 1992-2016). We are also the only double a team in NY! I really love the videos!! Riverfront Stadium is unusually large for a AA stadium because it was built to be a AAA stadium. However, the rearrangement of the Minor Leagues brought the WindSurge into the Minnesota Twins' organization as their AA ball club, because MLB was interested in putting the AAA clubs closer to the MLB club (this is also why the Saint Paul Saints have an unusually small AAA stadium - though the Saints' ownership group undoubtedly has plans to expand the stands)

    Fun facts about Canal Park: It's named for the Ohio Canal (as most will know by the name. The Ohio & Erie Canal is an old shipping channel)
    The asymmetrical layout in CF is because there's businesses and volleyball courts that were built prior to the park's construction in 1996-97.
    The finish line of the Akron Half Marathon and Marathon is set up on the infield. You enter the stadium from just right of dead center field on the right side of the batter's eye. (the Start is at Stan Hywet Hall, which is a home created for Frank Seiberling, co-founder of Goodyear Tire and Rubber)

    A few thoughts: First, as far as Pensacola goes, that's "the Defending NCAA Division II National Champion West Florida Argonauts" to you (lol); that program started up within the last 5-10 years and they won a national title. Second, Somerset's stadium is right next to an NJ Transit train station, specifically, the Bridgewater station on the Raritan Valley Line, so you can take a train from New York to watch the Yankees' AA team. Third, those are luxury apartments behind the outfield at Frisco's ballpark (I live 25 minutes away in Flower Mound, so I'm in that area a lot). Fourth, the Smokies are reportedly planning to move to a new stadium closer in Downtown Knoxville by 2023, with construction planned to start this fall. And, finally, it's Ack-RIN, not Ack-RON for Akron.

      The Tennessee Smokies (AA-Cubs) are owned by Randy Boyd and family. A move to downtown Knoxville is indeed upcoming. Having been inside Regions Field in downtown B'ham, there's a similar feel with the upcoming Knoxville stadium. Ironically, Randy Boyd owns two of the better known pubs near the new stadium as it's a social district. Much closer and easier to get to for those on the western side of the city. Not sure what will become of the existing Smokies stadium once the transition is completed. The debate is whether the area could support two professional teams. One offers an urban population while the other depends mainly on tourism. Guess we'll see.

    Dr. Pepper Park got a swimming pool/small water park by right side of the outfield. Water comes down the wall from the pool.
    Sod Poodles is another name for prairie dog. It's one of many ways of teams coming up with silly names so they can print it on a shirt or jersey and sell it. That area of Texas is very flat with plains and farm lands.
    Momentum Bank Ballpark in Midland is one of many stadium name changes ever since the stadium opened in early 2000s. Originally it was First American Bank Ballpark follow with Security Bank then now Momentum. Reasons for the name changes because the banks merged. There's a splash pad by center field area. Reason called the Rockhounds by geology. This area is oil fields along with various rock formations. Not shown is the football stadium built next to it. Scenes from Friday Night Lights movie are shot there. It also helps I live there and would spent my nights at the stadium watching games. The stadium lower the wall by the bullpen (at right and left corner of the field) hoping for easy homeruns compared when it opened. They are still Oakland A's AA affiliate since 1998. I think the Asheville Tourists are now High A. Now affiliated with the Houston Astros. We had a rookie league team of the Astros in Greeneville Tn 2004-2013 of the Appalachian League. The MLB disbanded the Appy League and has now created a wooden bat league as replacement this summer.(college age players, little or no chance of a draft to the MLB). We'll see how that works out.

    I’ve been to a few Travs games at Dickey-Stephens Park and I hope to go to some more. I remember almost getting a home run ball when I was a kid. I also barely remember going to a game at the Travelers’ previous ballpark, Ray Winder Field, when I was really little. Unfortunately, that stadium is now a parking lot for a nearby hospital, but at least the scoreboard is still there to mark the location/history.

    The first stadium the O AA Affiliate Bowie Baysox called home was Memorial Stadium on 33rd Street in Baltimore, in 1993, they closed the upper deck, and drew 7500 a game. It was used in the movie Major League 2 as the visiting teams stadium. Next season they played at several fields until Prince Georges County Stadium was ready enough. They are shopping naming rights.

    The Curve may have sold the naming rights, but to those of us who go there, it will always be Blair County Ballpark. The roller coaster is part of Lakemont Park, an old-fashioned "trolley park." When the coaster is running, the cars are painted to spell out "Go Curve" as they go around.
    One of their mascots is a guy dressed in a costume that makes him look like a goldfish. He stays out behind the outfield fence, and every time the Curve scores, he comes out into center field and does a little dance...his name is (wait for it) Al Tuna.

    It’s quite on the nose that the AA affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, whose stadium has a Marriott hotel built into it with field-view rooms, plays at a stadium with a Hilton next door that also has field-view rooms.
    Also Bowie, MD (pronounced BOO-ey), has its ballpark named for the County it’s in, in the DC suburbs.

  • @stephenroot6067
    @stephenroot6067 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great Video! Just thought I'd add a little bit to the conversation about the ballparks. For FNB Field, although the location seems great on paper, there are way too many trees, and you are unable to actually see the Susquehanna River. Another thing that I don't really like about the stadium is that it doesn't face Harrisburg at all, instead facing upstream. This means that you cannot see the Capitol building, which would really tie into the name of the Senators. However, that would cause the sun to be in the eyes of the batter in the evening games. This could be fixed by rotating it slightly in either direction, and would be better than the city of Harrisburg being just left of the backstop and being unable to be seen no matter where you are in the park. Also, for the amount of people that attend games, the seating isn't concentrated enough. At FNB Field, you can't really feel the crowd, and they almost always sound dead. An example of how the seating being more concentrated would help is People's Bank Park in York, PA. This is the home of the York Revolution, an Atlantic League Professional Baseball (ALPB) team. They generally have about half the attendance, but the more concentrated seating makes the stadium feel much more alive. Lastly, the Mayflies at FNB Field can get really bad, but it is generally just a minor inconvenience with the exception of fireworks. When they do fireworks after the game, they turn off the lights in center field, causing the mayflies to move towards the foul lines, where many people are sitting, causing a major inconvenience and severely taking away from the experience.
    Thanks for reading this far!

    The Rubber Ducks name is because Goodyear tires was founded in Akron. If you get as low as Low A, my home stadium Grainger Stadium in Kinston, North Carolina is actually called Municipal Stadium but everyone calls it Grainger Stadium as that was the last name of the guy who donated the land and the name of the old High School that was next to it at one time. It has an old wooden roof on top of the main grandstands and short dimensions with it 335 down the lines and 390 to straightaway center field.

    • @kiltedwolf2
      @kiltedwolf2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      MLB demoted 40 teams from their minor league rosters. . . which eliminated roughly 1000 player positions. This gutted the Appalachian League which has had teams dating back to the early 20th Century. Since I live in east Tn, this bothered me to no end. Then, I found out why this move was made: MLB has invested in the player development and they deemed that these stadiums simply didn't have the facilities to service their players. Old showers. Few. .if any. . rehab facilities. Poorly maintained fields. While it hurts to see the MLB affiliations go, I can see their point. Btw, the Appy League is a collegiate league along the ranks of Cape Cod so the quality of baseball is still there.

Also, they’re called the lookouts, because one of the biggest mountains here is called Lookout Mountain, Im not sure but i’m sure “lookouts” has something to do with the Civil War, since there is a battlefield on top of Lookout Mountain. I could be wrong on that though. Regardless, great video!

    "Ran out of room and had to..." is one of the reasons these are closer in spirit to the old jewel box ballparks (the other is the more intimate environment, relative lack of box seats, when there are upper decks they're closer to the action). The old jewel box ballparks literally were shoehorned in and had to have quirky layouts because they ran out of room. Nowadays the retro MLB ballparks have all the $$$ and space they need, and the quirks are just there to be quirky after Camden Yards made it kewl again. A bunch of these AA ballparks don't have the $$ to buy the space they needed, so they are quirky because they needed to be. (Except for 3:10, what am I looking at???)
