      I've started a handful myself and quit because I can't fully enjoy the game on console. Why does the premier gaming consoles not even remotely compete with an office tool designed for work? Is it really that terrible to think gaming consoles should wax the floor in every aspect of gaming versus a PC? Like Xbox and Playstation are specifically designed for gaming, but compared to a PC the consoles are like playing an Atari underwhelming for what we pay for the system and all the other pricey extras that more often than not don't even come close to what PC has to offer. If I didn't have children I would trade the console off and start a revolution to either force the consoles to step up or be buried and forgotten.

    • @CityZilla
      @CityZilla  2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I understand your frustration. I think the problem though is price. Top tier PC builds right now are about 4000 dollars. Even with Microsoft getting a deal on mass purchases for there consoles if they wanted to build something comparable they would have to sell it for a lot more than what an Xbox costs.

    • @eyespyyourspy1328
      @eyespyyourspy1328 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@CityZilla I don't think the consoles need to keep up with the top tiers, but they should in the very least be equal to if not better than the lower end models. The other thought is what does Microsoft's PC sales have to do with Playstation. Playstation needs to step way up as they have been in the business longer and they are becoming an absolute joke. I used to be willing to die on the Playstation hill. Now it's clear that Cartrige Consoles of old are superior to these new models. My NES still fires right up where as I can't find an OG PS or XBOX that hasn't been refurbished to the point only the shell is original. Pay $700 for a console and get destroyed by kids on a $400 Walmart computer. My $700 should be competitive in every aspect with the cheapo PC .

    Man this series is a blessing, I was having so many issues with my cities and after watching just the first episode I was already able to start a new city much more streamlined and realistic. I kept having issues with traffic and bottle necks which would spiral to emergency responders and Hurst's not being able to get to the people.

    • @CityZilla

      Traffic can be really tricky in this game. Even with the most efficient layouts

  • @rockmcdwayne1710

    As far as i know with warehouses is that ''fill'' means you want to fill them up and keep it so. ''Empty'' means that everything that is stored there will be exported and ''Balanced'' is a mix and match.
    If you want your factories that rely on raw materials to function properly, you would want small warhouses with said materials to be set ''fill'' so your factories wont run out of materials.
    If you have a large part of your industry producing raw materials, warehouses with ''fill'' are in higher priority when storing your raw materials. In my case, everything that is left over will be sent to warehouses with ''empty'' for immediate export. Basically what that means is that, you also dont want your raw material producing facilities just stand there leeching money because they do not have free space in a warehouse!
    Large warhouse set to ''empty'' for export and profit.
    Small warehouse set to ''fill'' for local use.
    warehouses with ''balanced'' option seemed to mess up whole production chains. Sometimes there's not enough goods for local factories and sometimes they are all full when big harvest comes in. In your case, in this example, you have ALOT of fields producing raw goods so i assume you need multiple large warehouses set on ''empty'' to get all the produce to global market pronto!
    Once you get rail and other cargo transportations going, its going to be alot smoother though but, untill you rely on trucks you might want to keep these details in mind.
    Anyway, just my 2 cents on the matter, havent played the game for a while though. Currently waiting CS2 to come out.

    This whole series is the holy grail for C:S beginners. I also love your attention to details and the realism you bring to every scenario and even the role-playing and backstories. Like, you look at it more as a RPG rather than a simulator. Subscribed.

    What you can do to make your trumpet interchanges even more realistic is to use the regular curve tool and make a clothoid curve, where one 'arm' is longer than the other. Say, your curve radius is 10 units, you'll want to go 12 units in and then 10 units to the left or right. This creates a much gentler transition and in real life it allows for higher entry and exit speeds. We do this a lot in Germany, along with banking the curves, which is one reason why we get by without a general speed limit.

      @@CityZilla Also if you don't have a problem with installing mods, I definitely recommend the following ones:
      - *Network Anarchy* lets you manipulate roads, railways and fences much more precisely and without building restrictions.
      - *Move It!* enables you to fix roads and misplaced pillars without demolishing and redrawing them.
      - *Node Controller* lets you fix janky nodes, e.g. the game will make all intersections and transitions "flat" which turns slopes into rollercoasters. Node Controller can disable that.
      - *TM:PE* lets you dial in how intersections work much more precisely and massively improve traffic flow, as well as create custom traffic light timings.
      - *Prop Line Tool* lets you place props, e.g. trees in a line like you would place roads.
      - *Intersection Marking Tool* is purely ornamental but looks nifty.
      I personally wouldn't play the game without the first 5 mods, the last one is optional but gives your road network a HUGE boost in realism and looks.

      Man when I went to Germany and got to drive much faster at the highway it sure was a shock to feel how incredibly tight your curves going off the highway were... I had to break all the way down from 160 to like 40 at some of them and I'm used to just going back from 120/130 to 60/50... It was something I didn't expect considering you'd be allowed to approach them faster. (Maybe it's not the same everywhere and I was just taking a few in the middle of nowhere that they were sort of extremely short and tightly curved)
      I'm not sure if I understand correctly but the difference in being limitless on the highway to having to reduce your speed so abruptly when getting off and on the cloverleaf (e.g.) felt very extreme to me. But I think that's just because I'm so used to the huge cloverleafs we have where I live.
      The funny thing is seeing all my flow countrymen thing they can just take a left lane and pass on someone without speeding up, I mean... that just seemed logical to me to double check and make sure there's nobody flying by with 200+ but these Dutch people be thinking they're driving in Holland still... A tleast I got that part covered knowing it would be a difference, haha. But seriously, all the time I saw someone go to the left lane like a snail and have some honking mad German almost hug them from behind, it was someone with the yellow plates from a little further west...
      Regards, your orange neighbour.

    From what I've read, the warehouses on balanced buy goods until the reach 50% and then sell everything until they reach 50%. The other ones speak for themselves haha. Love the series, had Cities bought for a while but only recently started getting into it. Fun to play but can get really in depth with all the different expansions. So I really appreciate that you go in order of which you implement them in your cities normally. Although I do like to build the parks quite early because I think they dress up the residential quite well. Keep it up!

    I'm really enjoying this series! You are doing a really good job of explaining your methodology when building out this city (and all your cities in general). You've done a very good job in explaining how to make the game's mechanics work for the player.
    The aesthetic for this small farm town is looking very good.
    One thing I have heard other C:S creators mention is having a narrative that drives the development of the city, so I'd be curious to hear how that idea plays into your build style.
    Lastly, you failed to mention that players need to be very careful when landscaping around fertile land due to trees/bushes deleting fertile/agriculture resource. So maybe add a little mention at the start of the next episode.
    All in all a very enjoyable and educational episode.

    Again, super helpful!
    Watching you (and really, most folks focusing on Cities content) build 'slowly' and with intent is a big reminder of you don't ever have to grow, just "building more because bar says there is demand" is the Sisyphusian task that gets the amateur player like me into problems even just 10k more population later.
    Seeing how to use roads to frame out curves for things like the highway interchange are huge! I build gawd awful highway connections and really really struggled with the limited set of tools and a limited understanding of how to make things like the curve and snapping tools work best together, and that made it really frustrating to get to bigger city sizes and then watch things fall apart on the traffic side. Seeing how to use roads to frame out a predictable loop, and how to plan the different elevation levels for basket weaving the ramps through to where they need to be was educational. My own attempt at a trumpet interchange roughly following yours is still a bit bumpy and a bit too compact, but by damn I actually built a very functional one that distributes cars to my city rather than collects them like a dragon.
    Just hearing you basically say "yeaaahhhhh.... industry traffic is going to be a pain in the ass" is a nice level of permission of showing something that can be frustrating to a player of any skill and may just take a lot of tweaking and experience to get right at at a larger scale.

This is of benefit to students since it allows for students to interact with other students in an environment that is not just a school, which can often be suffocating. However, that place was a high school, not an elementary school, and it was in a historic part of town.
    22:50: also, in the same city I used to live in, there were homes zoned along the collector, and they were not apartments. I hated that too, but one benefit to having that is the ability to allow low cost housing prices. The problem is that living there is miserable for a family…

      Very true about the low cost housing. We may have to implement this to be more realistic

    Hey man. I recently got an appendectomy, and I have been in serious pain. This series has been so relaxing and distracting to watch while in pain, and I have been loving it! I do have a question though, i have been continuosly wondering why you are using gravel roads, and not paved roads? Thanks again, and have good one man

      In glad it is helping even just a little! I use gravel early on because it saves money.

    The trick of removing one tile of zoning next to collector roads is pretty clever. I don't know if the game models that - but one of the drawbacks of many similar roads in USA (and CS is clearly modelling US cities) is that they actually do have driveways connected right to it. Which conflicts with the purpose - because collector is a road, not a street - and the intention is undisrupted heavier/faster traffic flow.

    • @CityZilla
      @CityZilla  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't stand having houses connected to bigger roads. It's one of the reason I usually try to have a seperation

    You probably already knew this and maybe even covered it in an episode I haven't watched yet, but if you select a tree and click a road with trees it will change the tree type along that road.

  • @Hannodb1961
    @Hannodb1961 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes. That's a major flaw in the game: The inability to define a road reserve for future arterials. I am very aware of those in my area as its increasing in density.

    I prefer to keep in mind map theme. If the map is near the ocean or tropics then I rarely use tunnels being from Florida I can attest that digging one is not the best choice. For most other map types I choose through road for one connector and the Ramps the other. Usually through roads are tunnels and ramps are bridges.

I have learned to funnel traffic like a champ. My maps are not road beautiful though and i have no crime or noise pollution no sick at all. Grided map.

    03:20 "because of all the buildings we put on it" lol - there are literally zero buildings and two parks placed on that road. You'd briefly lose a few in the residential zoned areas right next to the highway but fewer than the ones you already took out by upgrading the other collectors. I feel like your initial instinct to make that a collector also makes a ton of sense since you are heavily populated in old town, but your first collector is after you've already driven past it
