  • After three years of using the 2000 watt Victron Inverter/Charger we are upgrading. This system has been great for us but it's time for a change.

I love the cut in of you sitting on your side-by-side. My wife says why is the road blocked I said look closer honey. There’s a berm and a pallet. It’s a shooting range. Lol. Everybody I knew that had acreage in the UP had one. That will be one of my projects at my cabin make a safe place to keep the rifles sighted in.

@@ADifferentKindofQuiet I have been involved in the shooting sports, both hunting and on a rifle team since I was 10 years old. When I lived in Arizona, I volunteered for the Arizona Game And Fish Department at Ben Avery shooting range just north of Phoenix. They have ranges from 25 yards out to 1000 yards, on their complex one of the largest in the US. I was a line safety officer for the people who would come out to practice and or sight in their firearms. It was easy to pick out a shooting range lol I am in the process of learning about solar. I think it’s a great way to go out in the boonies at a cabin. thanks for the video.

Be careful, make sure your inverter doesn’t demand more batteries! Some of them say you need a certain amount; perhaps you need something closer to eight Battle Born Batteries - make sure you read the manual.

Good point, however we spoke with the Victron Representative and he said this would work with our current set up. Thanks for watching!

Just came across your channel! Getting ideas from you all! We live off grid also in Maine but haven’t stay over winter yet. We don’t have a well or any water. We collect rainwater currently. We use a 1000w bluetti solar generator (battery/converter in one) and a gas generator to supplement.

I hope you find a way to stay as long as you want! We didn’t stay here the first winter either. It just wasn’t ready. We’ve now been here three full years and wouldn’t go back. Thanks for watching. ☺️

By the way, you always turn off solar first, then batteries. Then, when you start up again, you turn on the batteries first, and then solar. Otherwise, you can burn out your charge controller!

Nice off-grid upgrade for sure. Your loads you mentioned were not anything to high but something to keep in mind is to watch for ripple current. Because you did not increase the wire gauge going to the larger inverter or the fuse, there may be some restriction to power flow that will cause the ripple current. The inverter will protect itself if it is to high but it will give you a warning as well. The manual recommends 4/0 battery cables and a 400 amp fuse.

One of the off putting things for me is having to take a panel off and go inside the unit to connect and disconnect the wiering. I believe Victron make other units where you have access to the connections from the outside the box. The inner connections is prob a safety feature which i understand.
