Thanks for sharing. I have a small batch on my stove right now. I don't have an evaporator because I only have a few trees. This year I only tapped two because the others are in the woods and I know the ticks are out. I got Lyme and Babsiosis from a tick bite last year. Now I'm paranoid to go in there without dowsing myself with Deet. I live in New Hampshire. The potatoes looked delicious.
My goodness that looks good! We are looking forward to making those potatoes with our elk steaks the next time we have them. I do a bit of canning and would like to make maple syrup someday, thank you for making it look so easy.
Once you start making your own syrup you’ll get hooked! I love doing it. The leftover onion soup potatoes make great hash browns the next morning also! Thanks for watching. 😊
Meat looked delicious. I never had elk on my bucket list. I love moose and deer so I imagine elk is great. Beautiful fire cooking set up. Maple syrup looks great. Weather has been weird here in northern Ontario too.
OK now, that was cruel. I wanted to reach through the screen and grab one of those maple syrup, drenched pancakes, but I couldn’t. Lol and then the to finish it off with one of my favorite meals elk Steaks on a grill. It’s like the perfect day. The wintering ground for the elk in Estes Park and Rocky Mountain national Park are literally in our backyard down the hill about 25 miles from Estes Park on US 34. The last couple of days we have had about 400 elk just over our fence in an alfalfa field. I never get tired of seeing them.
Once you boil down the sap and evaporate the water the sugar sand is the result of the extra minerals left in the syrup. They are edible, just not very tasty. Filtering removes them.
Wow! That breakfast looked awesome!
Thanks!

I started out small also. It will taste amazing! With our warm weather we’ve been concerned about ticks already as well. Thanks for watching!

@@ADifferentKindofQuiet Joe and I are enjoying your channel
Awesome video!! Never done it before. Mainly cause know one in the house cares for maple syrup 🤦♂️ Looks delicious
Thanks!! That’s a shame, do you dislike it also? Maple syrup season is what makes winter tolerable for my wife.
@@ADifferentKindofQuiet no I love it!!

Elk is delicious! This is our first and we are enjoying it. Moose is definitely on Barb’s bucket list someday. Thanks for watching. ☺️

They are an awesome animal and delicious also. Barb harvested that one last fall near Gunnison Colorado
@@ADifferentKindofQuiet very nice. I heard that they introduced elk to the lower peninsula of Michigan years ago. Is that true or just a rumor?
The ring of ice you tossed out when gathering sap would that have been negligable for actual sap and more water?
The water freezes first so I typically toss the small ice rings. If it’s a significant size we put it in the evaporator. Thanks for watching! 😊
Explain sugar sand
