My best advice for this game, when you wake up in town at the beginning and get your weapons, DON'T go straight to the gate and continue the main story. There's a quest in the church that gives a good bit of XP, plenty of hidden treasure/climbing practice in/on the houses, and one of the quests available in the inn offers a very good starting weapon for the Strider class. Also, when you get to the main city, check the inn's storage, and you'll find an item that let's you infinitely fast travel (as long as it's the Dark Arisen version). That's all, have fun!
You can get gear anywhere at level 1 without leveling a single time. Then if so inclined go to BBI. Never said it was easy but that's what makes it fun it's an actual challenge

I like that you get to create your own companion and can share him/her online as well as hire other players companions. Makes it feel like beating this game is a community effort.

Whereas now, I actually have the time to play it, especially since I can take it anywhere. I'm still waiting for my copy, I really wanted a physical edition which meant having it imported from the US as you can only get it digital here.
Bro it's so worth it, but you probably know that by now. So much content and so many ways to mess around. Theres some good channels on youtube that deep dive into the game and it's more intricate mechanics. 3rd time buying it was for the switch since I got it on ps3 and PC. Probably gonna get it on ps4. Love this game and I need a sequel haha
-It has real dragons instead of wyverns like in Skyrim -You can climb on big monsters -You can pick up small enemies and throw them off cliffs -You can jump and attack in mid air -Tons of magic skills. -Castle and Fort sieges -Most locations have unique loot -Side quests are actually interesting
This is one of those games that gets even better as it progresses. The vocation system and stat building is amazing and so much fun! Story wise, it's not really the greatest, but the gameplay itself is worth it!
I find myself getting bored with the stories and skipping cut scenes in pretty much every game anyway so I just care about the gameplay and how rewarding the progression feels
Kraz3e987 there is a hack where later you can farm undead that comes out continues for massive exp...try to recruit a strong support that is lvl infinity. Lol let them do the farming for you.
Glad it got a second chance at life. It was heavily ignored on 360 and PS3. This game is a pure GEM. It's got its issues, as any game does, but finally people are embracing it. It's pushing up on 9 years old as of 2021 so it was older than 6 years at the time of this review.

I played through skyrim once.... Tried playing again a few times, but couldn't get into it. I've been, steadily, playing DD since I first got it around Christmas 2012.
I put more hours into DD on PS3 than I did Skyrim. I still hold out hope for a sequel that features a bigger world and a few more towns with a bigger, more lively population
Hard Mode gamers go to bitter black early quick experience. mainly run in the beginning lure enemies to kill themselves and bomb throws for those skeleton horde xp runs. explore more and gather loot fast enough to get into those early fights so loot spawns faster.
Strange that this game is 13gb so it's probably on a 16gb cartridge. And for the price...why couldn't Capcom not put Mega Man Legacy collection on a single cart.
Don't get CapCom. RE collection will be full retail price and still one game you'll have to download. If this game is 29.99 and as I assume on a 16gb cartridge. Why not release RE which costs double on 2 cartridges. Just doesn't make sense.
Guys if you stuck or missed out some important quest don't worry all you have to do is play hard mode from the start and all your level, gear, skill, item and pawn will be carry over and just go to option anytime to change the dificulty after starting again this is an awoesome feature in DDDA that other game don't have, its was like NG+ but can be done anytime and many time you like
Awww, you need to play way more than just a few hours of Dragon's Dogma to get it. Did you ever end up playing more? You don't really start to appreciate the depth and gameplay until after the first quests into the Witchwood and the Everfall!
Just bought a Switch and this was the first game I chose. I wanted Skyrim but I’m trying to get into other things (Yeah, I pretty much have only played Skyrim since it came out) so since this looked kinda close I chose it. Saw my package was delivered today so when I get home I’m gonna check it out!

The game is a weird trickster in which it tries to go all out and in some aspects it nails it, some feel downright awful and in the end you somehow feel its one of the best and worst games of its kind. The overall description would be that this game is an unpolished groundbreaking mess :) it somehow feels advanced and cheap at the same time. . For instance: - the fighting mechanics are one of the best in the genre, but some choices (the stats progression system) leave you baffled. - The character creation is great and characters actually look good (take a lesson Besthesda) but the world and characters feel dead - Everyone feels like a pawn. . and there are more examples like that.

Cool video BTW, the game definitely needs to be recognized and its really cheap too :)
Technically, DD is actually better than Skyrim in three points: 1. Gameplay (you can climb monsters here and stab them as much as you want, similar to SOC. The pawn system is really a must since the enemies are x2 the difficulty of dealing with them. Just imagine Dark Souls 3 enemy.) 2. Animation (when your character reaches high level, the spells are dope. The wizard in this game levitates.) 3. Bosses (the bosses in DD are actually huge and challenging. Imagine the bosses in Shadow of the Colossus.) Well, the narrative is not that super great, but it's a fair story that keeps you doing the quests to advance the narrative which is fun.
Love this title. Bought the original on the PS3 way back when. Then bought it when I saw it came to the Switch, finished 5 times already just on the Switch alone.
An open world plus the fighting system of devil may cry/monster hunter = bad ass fights, especially when you start seeing high level enemies as "normal" enemies later in higher lvl dungeons.
I may now have to get a Switch. Too many great PS3 games I own. Now if we can just stay get Kingdom's Of Amalure: Reckoning, I'd be set. And yes, imo, this is better than Skyrim.

This game is all about the journey and I don’t mean that in a cringey self help kinda way but literally, you don’t really go to dungeons and go through linear sections like that it’s all about the journey, the road and what you encounter.
Ive played thru this game about 5 or 6 times and I learn new things about it and different ways to play it I majorly enjoy pushing thru this game more and more and it gets better after you beat the pre game campaign and I always enjoy playing thru it again
I like it but I cannot recommend the port unless you have patience with the network issues making loading times 7x longer, the audio bug where battle music never ends until next load screen, and odd visual bugs like hair looking like legos when wet. If none of that bothers you than yeah grab it on switch but if not well best get it on a different platform.
Hey Eric I just got the game myself and honestly I had wanted to play it when it was out for the ps4 but that little voice inside kept telling me to wait so I waited until now and I am glad that I did.
I think I'll pick it up and give it another chance. I just encountered have breaking bugs in kingdoms of amalur for the switch and nothing was fixed as far as bugs go. This game usually takes the hit when I need to survive for the month so I hardly ever give my chance to enjoy the game. I enjoyed what I played of it. I never liked Skyrim, mostly because I watched my ex wife play that game and fallout new vegas agnausium in the PS3.
Yeah I noticed that too. Makes me think he hasn't played it. The way he pronounces 'Arisen' as /əˈrʌɪzən/ ... I mean, the pawns call you 'Arisen' /əˈrɪsən/ all the God damn time. How do you miss that?

I played a few hours of this game and just couldn’t get into it. I think its the MMO style of the game. I like playing solo and didn’t care for the PAWNS and found their constant chatter really annoying. I need a good story too and it just isn’t there. Combat was pretty good though.
My friend josh keeps wanting me to get it lol. Theirs a pain system where you can import your friends. He plays tons of the game and beat it like 4 times, so yeah once I pick it up if your still playing it I'll send you hes details so you can plow through some of the harder ones
Apparently skyrim is the only fantasy game nowadays to compare everything to. Dragon's dogma is more like DMC + witcher + monster hunter + screw all that, it is its own thing.
Great game and I'm loving it, still holds up today, I'm 70 hours into my first play through, but I will say this. There's a few games on the Switch in the same vein, Witcher 3, Skyrim, BOTW, I'd even say Dark Soul's and Assassin's Creed rebel collection are both quite close too. I've played them all because those are the types of games I enjoy, Dragons Dogma is quite similar to them all. But it is by far the worst with the exception of Assassin's Creed which I think they are about on par with each other, this is a fun game but it has soo many issues that are not glitches, it's just bad gameplay design. Bad companion system (pawns). Bad mini map UI, bad Map UI, shoddy enemy UI (why are they all running past me for?), Bad Quest UI... OH and bad UI for items. Just bad UI in general.

You have an eternal use ferrystone and can easily drop down 3 port stones wherever you want on the map. Not too bad!

Dark arisen fixed a bunch of issues over the original vanilla version biggest on is the fast travel which the vanilla didn’t have.

@@8-BitEric Hi thanks for reply, well for now I started with modding DDDA. So I just make it next Gen myself. I am used to it because of Skyrim, it has almost the same issue, its a great game but with outdated graphics :p

This game is all about the journey and I don’t mean that in a cringey self help kinda way but literally, you don’t really go to dungeons and go through linear sections like that it’s all about the journey, the road and what you encounter.

Ive played thru this game about 5 or 6 times and I learn new things about it and different ways to play it I majorly enjoy pushing thru this game more and more and it gets better after you beat the pre game campaign and I always enjoy playing thru it again
I like it but I cannot recommend the port unless you have patience with the network issues making loading times 7x longer, the audio bug where battle music never ends until next load screen, and odd visual bugs like hair looking like legos when wet. If none of that bothers you than yeah grab it on switch but if not well best get it on a different platform.

Both. Most of what you see is of the base game. Dark Arisen is intended to be high level stuff usually done after the main story
Hey Eric I just got the game myself and honestly I had wanted to play it when it was out for the ps4 but that little voice inside kept telling me to wait so I waited until now and I am glad that I did.
I think I'll pick it up and give it another chance. I just encountered have breaking bugs in kingdoms of amalur for the switch and nothing was fixed as far as bugs go. This game usually takes the hit when I need to survive for the month so I hardly ever give my chance to enjoy the game. I enjoyed what I played of it. I never liked Skyrim, mostly because I watched my ex wife play that game and fallout new vegas agnausium in the PS3.
This game is the best....if you know how to farm and get top gears...fighting the ice and fire dragon and then zombie dragon was fucking fun.

The game pronounces it the right way. Pawns say it all the time. Every other character says it all the time. Listen to the dialog.
If only multiple characters in the game would shout the word directly at you over and over a ridiculous amount so he’d know how to pronounce it... oh wait

I played a few hours of this game and just couldn’t get into it. I think its the MMO style of the game. I like playing solo and didn’t care for the PAWNS and found their constant chatter really annoying. I need a good story too and it just isn’t there. Combat was pretty good though.
I picked it up a few days ago. Never played it tell now. Haven't played much yet due to mk11 sucking up my free time but I will get to it.
My friend josh keeps wanting me to get it lol. Theirs a pain system where you can import your friends. He plays tons of the game and beat it like 4 times, so yeah once I pick it up if your still playing it I'll send you hes details so you can plow through some of the harder ones

Apparently skyrim is the only fantasy game nowadays to compare everything to.
Dragon's dogma is more like DMC + witcher + monster hunter + screw all that, it is its own thing.

Great game and I'm loving it, still holds up today, I'm 70 hours into my first play through, but I will say this.
There's a few games on the Switch in the same vein, Witcher 3, Skyrim, BOTW, I'd even say Dark Soul's and Assassin's Creed rebel collection are both quite close too.
I've played them all because those are the types of games I enjoy, Dragons Dogma is quite similar to them all.
But it is by far the worst with the exception of Assassin's Creed which I think they are about on par with each other, this is a fun game but it has soo many issues that are not glitches, it's just bad gameplay design.
Bad companion system (pawns).
Bad mini map UI, bad Map UI, shoddy enemy UI (why are they all running past me for?), Bad Quest UI... OH and bad UI for items.
Just bad UI in general.
I know people prolly already said this but dude you went straight to Bitterblack Isle.
Comparing this to Skyrim is insulting. Unlike Skyrim, Dragons Dogma is actually a good game.
