Met Nina and Louise at Tower Records during a record signing. I left because it was super crowded. Happened to be close by hours later and stopped back in for the hell of it. They were still there making sure they met everyone that wanted to say hi. They were so nice. Probably the nicest musicians I’ve ever met.

American Thighs was one of those rare CDs (back when you had to buy an entire CD even though all you knew from it was the one hit single) where you were pleasantly surprised because every song on the album was a complete banger.
Their first record “American Thighs,” was one of the records that played often in my room when it came out. My room was the place where all my friends came to hang out, kind of a home base, and that record was constantly chosen by my friends to listen to. I loved their first two albums but the first was the one I remember word for word to this day

Louise Post was one of my first adolescent crushes. I remember seeing her in the 'All Hail Me' video when I was about 14 and thinking "That is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen..."
It's hard to believe that it's been five years since Ghost Notes came out. It's truly a great album. One of the few albums to equal or surpass a group's initial heyday. I was disappointed that they didn't announce a new album in this video.
I only (re)discovered Veruca salt a few years ago. I was aware of them tangentially back in the 90's but it was only when Ghost Notes was released that I really noticed them and then rushed to go over their back catalog. They rock! Both then and now.

Phenomenal interview!!! So great to see them all in the same room. I'm not alone when I say "With David Bowie" could be one of the best (if not THE best) Veruca Salt song. Still my all-time favorite.
Great interview. Refreshing to see an interviewer who doesn't feel the need to set him/herself centerstage the whole time. All attention on the guests. Henry, much respect to you, as always.
These ladies came out with 'Seether' ...that's enough in my book...one of the greatest songs of all time...they've made their mark big time ...big respect
I remember going to Wax Trax! Records as a senior in high school. Amazing store. Sometimes I miss Chicago. Best release on the label: Pailhead's "Trait," hands down.
Besides their amazing harmonies, people sometimes overlook the phenomenal amount of changes that packed the punches in those amazing songs! I mean, like the Beatles and Frank Black, V.S. would write these infectiously, catchy tunes with like 7 changes in a 3 minute song! Who does that? VerucaSalt does that, and amazingly kicks ass doing that, and whenever I hear American Thighs, 8 arms(not to mention Resolver& Everything my hero Louise has done) I get to turn it up and friggin' love the world! I love this band and I love them loud as fuk!!!peace
There are a trillion bands that would still be together, making great music, if they only had a small portion of the grace and understanding that Mrs. Post, and Mrs. Gordon demonstrated in this video.
American Thighs is still an album I can listen to front to back and love the whole thing. I'm from St. Louis and was totally in love with local girl Louise. Lol...
When Henry was asking them about how many 'dues' they paid, how long they 'gigged' by van, I wonder if they realized how stark the contrast in their and Henry's touring history. They spent 'a few months' in the van, Henry and the various iterations of Black Flag spent years upon grueling years crisscrossing the country, to oftentimes thankless crowds.
Hmmmn.soooo tru.but at the same time in the end it paid off for henry bczz he is pretty much a household name wth a catalog of priceless music.compared to veruca salt which is pretty much a one hit wonder that Hardly anyone remembers
Paying road dues should never be a competition. I suspect Veruca Salt are more than aware that Henry toured in vans way more than they did. I don't think they were trying to say that they put in as many pre-fame miles as he did, but what should they have done? Debased themselves by saying, "Sorry, we're fakers who never lifted an amp in our lives"? That's not the truth. They gave an honest and humble answer to Henry's question.

Yeah it wasn’t their fault that they got picked up so quickly. I know people used to call them industry plants but sounds like the vultures were circling from the first few months. Veruca Salt is absolutely one of my favorite 90's bands. The American Thighs album holds a very special spot in my heart and mind. I love to see these two back together.
Undeniably underrated band. Killer songs, killer voices, great lyrics... those first two records are outstanding. They have a slew of B-sides that are just as good. God I love that band. I met Nina years ago and made a fool of myself. 😆 Never meet you’re heroes, kids.

March 26, 1995 I saw Veruca Salt perform at The Boathouse in Norfolk, VA. Superb show. They opened with "Get Back." The mix was perfect and sounded as close to the album as any band I've ever seen. My only regret is they didn't get to play an encore because a girl crowd surfing fell to the floor, landed on hear head and was knocked unconscious. Steve Lack saw what had happened and said "we're gonna take a quick break." Everyone on stage bolted. The bouncers came out and said "show's over. Go home." And that was that. Still, one of the best shows I've ever experienced.
