    SOP in US Army is to remove the safety clip before moving out. Never seen those individual cans, when I was in, they just came in a crate. Fun fact they shaped them like that because Americans are used to throwing baseballs. I wouldn't trust that 15m kill zone either. Never threw one in combat but I can tell you on the range when you're watching others on the fire line, you're behind this thick glass in a bunker about 50m behind the line, and when they detonate, shrapnel would still hit the glass that far away. Stay safe bro

      its not a 15m kill zone its a 15m injury zone and a 5m kill zone. A lot of the time ammo techs will take them out of the cans before hand to save time.

      @@D.Trout222 this is all correct. I am a range safety officer. they are always in the cans, some units prep them for the troops. we do not because it is how they will be issued to them in combat.

      Schrodinger's frag grenades.
      I don't trust them to kill anything reliably past 5 meters radius.
      Still, I don't want to be anywhere 50 meters away line of sight from grenade.

    Take the bottom half of that container with you. You can use it to make a very basic tripwire trap. Just tie some wire around the fuse pull the pin and stuff it in the tube. Ideally you are supposed to set them up so they swing out above the heads of the enemy before going off.

    late to the party but a point about these grenades. infantrymen, at least marines would actually use electrical tape and tape around the grenade body and spoon, overlap a bit, and create a pull tab with the end of the tape for easy removal before use. Reasoning for this is the pin can actually break. The one time I didnt tape a grenade, the pin broke. No idea how. Guess I bumped into something hard, activating the fuse. Luckily it was a smoke grenade, which uses the same fuse and I had an extremely red plate carrier for the rest of my deployment. The afghan children always looked at me in horror thinking it was blood.

      @berryreading4809 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good advice, but I'm guessing these grenades aren't often carried around for multiple missions/vehicle entries/exits before actually being used or even just left laying in a prepared grenade pile when it's time to unass an area extremely quickly... But if it happens Im sure the word will travel quickly! Thank God yours was just smoke... But of course it had to be red... Also glad you didn't get burnt to hell! 😂👍 (Hopefully the TDF guys and rear forces leave them clipped or tape them... If they happen to even get any M67s...)

    The only time I was issued grenades for combat was the Panama Invasion of 1989-90. Once we were issued our grenades usually 4 per man, we never took off the two safety pins and wrapped them with electrical tape around the spoon, pin, and safety pins and placed them on our ammo pouches in the grenade holders, or placed them inside the pockets of our FLAK jackets for better security. Iraq was different, we had flash bang grenades to recuse collateral damage to civilians but the concussion was just as bad as the concussion offensive grenades which were also issued in Panama. The problem with the offensive grenades were the body was made out of card board, the explosive round doughnuts would fall out at the bottom which we had to tape the bottoms. They sucked when they got wet where the card board would get soaked and deform. During training we would use all of them because once issued it has to be thrown and detonated. They look like M18 style cylindrical smoke grenade bodies but they suck. The Panama Invasion was the last time I know when it was used. From there Uncle Sugar just wanted to use the M67 after.

    Hi Val.
    The Americans do have an offensive grenade. The Mk3 concussion grenade.
    It's basically a cardboard tube sealed with asphalt and fiberglass, loaded up with nothing but 230g of TNT. Not actively produced, but can be seen once in a blue moon with SF elements.
    I also know you love the RGO series of impact fuzed grenades, and I think you'll love the M68 as well. Same exact concept as the defensive RGO but in an M67 form factor.

    • @Vsor
      @Vsor ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As I understand it the mk3 concussive was removed from service in the mid 70s, because that fiberglass liner was in fact, 50% asbestos. That knowledge is from wikipedia though, I have no first hand experience.

    You should probably watch Brent0331. He makes videos usually for US Marines on equipment. Have story from cousin that was in Iraq around 2004. He and other fellow soldiers noticed when they began patrolling the cites early in the war pissed off Iraqi kids would try grab on soldiers. Well each soldier had M67 grenades attached on their vest. If the Iraqi kids approached a soldier to gang up soldiers would give the biggest kid a quick light buttstroke of the rifle to face. That would usually take the encouragement out of group. Pretty cruel but if one of those kids pulled a pin well you already know.

    ... You need big effort to put in it, or to prepare it before, straighten the split wire passing trough the spoon, and try few times, befor let it in Your pocket for combat use... Directly from the box is almost impossible to use it, extremely hard pin to pool out!

    The US does have an offensive hand grenade, the Mk 3... but apparently they "have been found to contain 17-50 percent chrysotile asbestos in the fiber body and is restricted for use in contingency operations only. In case of emergency use, commanders must limit unit personnel exposure to two or fewer MK3-series grenades detonations in an 8-hour period." So they're considered too dangerous for training and only allowed to be issued in actual combat so most people never actually come across one (even when deployed I never saw one). A new model, the M111 Offensive Hand Grenade is supposedly being fielded (only within the past couple years) to replace the Mk3
