India ordered another lot of 517 fairly recently and my understanding was that the 516 was discontinued due to lack of military orders and could be woken up if they received new orders. India also ordered a lot of ammunition for them as they were getting really bad results using their locally produced 7.62x51 which is made for their machine guns. The order was due to more issues getting the AK-203 production going and their original orders were just meant to be a stopgap until AK-203's were available. They have a couple of hundred thousand 517's there now or will have and my understanding is that once they stopped using locally made MG ammunition in them that the troops using them are very happy with them.

I'm 99.99% sure his role is in small arms training and they don't have him currently fighting on the front lines. He's fully capable of that work but he appears to be more valuable to Ukraine as a trainer. It would certainly explain not only his extensive knowledge of a wide variety of weapons systems but also his ease of access to them.

516 should still be available by contract. If not, the MCX is a good alternative, albeit more expensive, either the Virtus or Spear LT.

I think you might have it set to adverse. Which increases gas flow and reduces parts life. You should only use that setting if the weather is harsh or the rifle is very dirty. Just a friendly tip. Absolutely... We should've begun slowly leaving there in 2013-2015 anyway, then started shipping gear that was to be de-milled or for regular ANA directly to Ukraine following the Russian occupation of Crimea... Instead we are still currently sending national guard levek shit to Ukraine years after the full scale invasion, yet also left Afghanistan in the absolute dumbest possible way... Like you said though atleast some of the gear is going to a good cause... But the amount of military equipment demilled/scrapped starting around 2012 would have made a HUGE difference for Ukraine immediately following the invasion of Crimea/Donbass and built a better foundation for scaling up after the full scale invasion... Instead we paid more to have MRAPs, engines, spare parts, generators, all types of ordinance/ ammo destroyed for less cost than shipping it to Ukraine... Now add all that to what we left behind intact... Yet people complain about spending a fraction of what we spent per year in Afghanistan to help Ukraine for multiple years... Shameful! We seem to be all about supporting freedom and democracy with military aid or deployment, unless a country's population actually has those same values, is actually willing to fight for it themselves without handholding, and really needs that military hardware... Then it's suddenly a money/political topic?! 🤦‍♂️ Absolute stupidity by most of our elected officials, from both sides of that same coin... 😠

My friend! I pray and hope that you survive this war, then afterwards I wish that you move to America and then have your own TH-cam channel. You would be so very popular. Your knowledge and expertise is second to none! You have real hands on war fighting Knowledge and every video is so in-depth and absolutely 100% accurate and correct! You would always be a wealthy man living in America and would probably have every gun you’d want legally, but you are definitely made for TH-cam or similar platform for videos! Keep your head down and survive this war. Enjoying the video very much, Slava Ukraine from America!

I have a Sig 716 Patrol. It is the 7.62x51mm NATO version of this rifle and it also shares the same piston operating mechanism. The newer Sig 716i is the direct impingement version. I've found the rifle to be very reliable for a 7.62x51 AR10 type rifle. As you pointed out there is no standard for piston ARs and that situation is even worse for AR10s because the Sig 716 is completely proprietary and isn't even compatible with other SR25/LR308 uppers and lowers from what I've read. The gun is much heavier than a DI AR10 but its relatively accurate for what it is and its gassed decently well. Recoil is definitely harsher on the .308
I'm extremely surprised to see this turn up in Ukraine, tbh. Have you come across any BCM Ar15 rifles? I've seen videos with them being used.

Great video. For someone from Ukraine you know a lot about America's Rifle. I own two 516's a 14.5" that I bought se one, and a 11.5" that I bought new as a 16" but sent off and had cut down to 11.5. i have one older lancer extended forend that I replaced the quad rail with that has big slotts. I got a newer lancer for the 11.5 and they now have smaller slots set up for M-loç. The lancers are fairly thin but they are dàm strong m, not quad rail strong but better than the M-4 plastic ones. Midwest industries makes a nice aluminum one now as well. I went to buy a H&K MR-556 in 2016 and the salesman at the gun store handed me a SIG-516 and said the same engineer designed them both and fixed all the known issues with the 416 when he designed the 516, (I had never heard of the 516 at that point) so the Sign is a better gun. Then he said, Oh and by the way, you can get two Sigs for the same price as the H&K. I told him sign me up. Be safe

I have a couple of the 10.5 variants. So far, they've been really good. BTW, Midwest Industries here in the U.S. still has/makes a MLOK handguard for the 516. I seen mixed reviews on it with the main complaint being of improper alignment with the receiver. These work very well suppressed. NOTE: with a B&T Rotex, I recommend running on standard gas setting for Battlefield reliability. On the suppressed setting, it may or may not cycle due to how the Rotex is internally designed. ADDITIONAL NOTE: supposedly the 516 was a design improvement of the HK 416 and the designer(s) of the 416/516 then moved on to Caracal in the UAE and further "refined" the design to develop the Caracal 816 series.
