This is great! (You're single-handedly responsible for getting me to my first 1000 subscribers) We've got some folks coming from the Tournament of Books going on right now that didn't even know there was a thing called booktube and then suddenly think it's all YA because they haven't widened their parameters. This helps!

Even though you said it’s legit I feel so bad doing this 🙊 BUT I make booktube videos regularly on my channel ‘Helene Jeppesen’ and I primarily read adult fiction because I can’t get enough of it (literary fiction, classics, horror, historical fiction, etc.). But at the same time, I would like to recommend Ange from beyondthepages who reads and reviews a crazy amount of adult (classic and historical) fiction each month 🙂 Now I’m going to check out all of your recommendations that I didn’t already know of ... 😁

Thanks for including me in the shoutout. 😊 Adult channels do tend to be overwhelmed by the YA ones, but we’re here if you look! In addition to all the others, I love Sam from Sam’s Nonsense, who reads a lot of adult fantasy fiction as well as the occasional classic (Count of Monte Cristo and such).

Thank you so much for including me in this list :) I agree it isn't too hard to find adult booktubers if you know where to look! But it is nice to see our section of booktube growing. I am always looking for new channels, so I will check out all of the other channels you recommended that I'm not already subscribed to.

Thanks for making this video and including me on the list! I think your advice is spot-on. Booktube seemed super YA-focused when I started because like you said, if you just type "booktube" into the search bar, that's the most common result. But the more I engage with youtube (either through my own videos or through watching/commenting), the more it becomes tailored to what I'm interested in.
Two more adult booktubers I love: splitreads and Insert Literary Pun Here

  • @EricKarlAnderson
    @EricKarlAnderson 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

This is great and really practical advice since I often find it challenging to find literary fiction booktubers. On my channel I often talk about new literary fiction, but also increasingly classic fiction since I started a ‘Rediscover the Classics’ reading group. And I frequently talk about book prizes and prizes like the Booker or the Women’s Prize for Fiction since I often read the lists for these. You’ve already listed many of my fav channels but I’d also recommend InsertLiteraryPunHere and MatthewSciarappa.

I review SFF, Horror, Mystery, Literary fiction and anything else I happen to pick up. I agree that it definitely took a little digging to get past all the YA when I first discovered Booktube, but I'm thankful I kept searching and eventually joined the community because I've made some great friends. Some recommendations I have that are not on your list: Courtagonist (cozy mysteries), Becks Books (SFF), Chapter32 (Horror/Thriller), Beth Chats Books (literary), Happily Ever Esch (literary, classics, nonfiction) and Carla's Book Bits (literary, horror/thriller) who just returned to Booktube.

Excellent tips! Thank you so much for sharing! I am older than most Booktubers I see, but I enjoy YA, along with "adult" thrillers, contemporary fiction and romance, so I don't mind. However, my challenge is finding older booktubers who are interesting, so I'm going to use your tips to see who I can find - I'll also check out your list! While I enjoy younger Booktubers, I can't relate to them talking about struggles with undergrad studies etc...💕 My channel is mostly lifestyle and beauty, but I've started adding in more book content because I don't have time to manage more than 1 channel/IG account etc...

Thank you so much for this! Finding them is harder than 45 seconds especially when you don't much time. You organize them in the description box better than most do in their bios/about sections. Thanks again, so glad I found great reviewers in the list 💙

Stumbling upon this just now while looking for adult booktubers, so clearly a good resource!! I've seen you've been on abreak just now, hope you'll be joining in again soon!
I mainly review adult books. I've tried rekindling my previous love for YA but I've been striking out on that front, so I guess I'll mainly be sticking to adult again.
Thanks to this video I have a lot of new booktube channels to check out!

Thank you so, so much for the tips! I’m new to booktube and I’ve been on the hunt for other channels to watch. I love watching the YA reviewers and they make me want to branch out but I love to read history, biographies and thrillers so I want to see those channels as well. I just started my own channel, so it’s great to be able to watch the videos of those who read similar books. :) Love your recommendations!

Hahahah, ohmygosh. Rincey linked this video on twitter and I am watching your intro and MAN, I live in a little booktube bubble. I forgot there were YA booktubers because I watch only[mostly] adult book booktubers. I don't think that was proper English, but whatever. Aaaaand I am subscribed to over 300 people. I think I started with ClimbtheStacks but it is usually pretty easy for me, my favorite thing to do is search the comments of videos and look to see if they have a channel. This is a lot easier/more fun with smaller channels where booktubers are commenting on each other videos. I am happily subscribed to most of the people you mentioned, but I will check out the others. And yes, I do make videos...but of the low-fi, unedited version. I appreciate you making this list, I see a lot of friends here :)

One of the ways I've found a lot of smaller channels with tastes/interests that overlap with my own is through the comments on videos that pop up through those other searches that you mentioned. I've found dozens of brilliant channels that way (ETA: two of my favourites are Mel's bookland adventure and Garden Scriptorium).
It always surprises me when I see comments on videos about non-YA titles with "You're the only booktuber I know who reads adult/nonfiction/poetry/etc" when those comments are usually framed by ones from other booktubers who are making that content that they're supposedly looking for. Obviously with some of the larger channels that will be a huge list of names to click on, but I've had that comment on my videos before, and my channel is small enough that there's usually only a handful that they'd need to look at!

This is so helpful. I have only started looking at booktubers and everyone I have checked out all seem to do YA and fantasy etc. I have been getting very frustrated with not being able to find someone who does adult fiction. Just took a chance on you and so glad I did. Really appreciate the list and will start checking them out. Thanks again.

Wonderful list! There are half I watch and half new to me so double thank you. I review horror on my channel and no young adult as I focus on extreme and indie horror for the most part. Your fist tip is so true, as searching for particular books is how I found reviewers like you, and also how and why I started talking books on TH-cam since there were loads of books no one was talking about! There seems to be more adult fiction reviewers so I think this is getting easier year by year. Great video!

I’m an adult Booktuber and most of the Booktubers I subscribe to are adults. I had no problem finding others, so this is a great set of suggestions. Also since I read diversely, I find that there is a greater age range among Booktubers of colour, LGBTQ Booktubers etc...

Looking for reviews of my book. What is the process of having you review it on your channel?

    • @kipolem53
      @kipolem53 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Four years later, now Booktubers don't review YA books, although techncially even books that CLAIM to review books don't eriod dont' even do that. I see a lot of videos calling themselves "reviews," and all they do is tell you the synopsis and whether the content creator liekd or didn't liek the book. That is NOT a review. It's not like looking up the synopsis is a challenge anyway. I guess ome of those videos also address whether the synopsis is misleading or not, but that doens't hapen as often as one would perhaps expect.
I get that people are anti-spoilers, but like Booktube doing this basically kills discussion for books, becasue they can't talk about what actually hapens in it that isn't provided by the synopsis. There is one channel I know of that definitely doesn't shy away from spoilers, Nikki's Book Nook, or at least that I noticed, maybe she only does that wiht a few titles. Or gives off the air of doing that which is honestly better wthan what other Booktube channels offer.

    • @perpetualgains6559
      @perpetualgains6559 ปีที่แล้ว

You do not read " diversely" I unsubscribed to you, because all you read is LGBTQHIJKLMN, whatever. Just clicked on your page upon seeing your comment, and yes, you are still indeed, a closed and narrow minded reader.

Awesome video, Katie! And thanks for including me in the list! I think it's become increasingly easier and easier to find adult booktubers, especially since a lot of the booktubers who started making primarily YA videos have grown to love a variety of genres.

Wow this is perfectly timed. I've been getting back into reading lately and have been wanting to find some content creators with similar tastes to my own to help expand my tbr, but was having a bit of trouble getting through the Young Adult Hype Machine that is that is the surface of booktube. Thank you for the great tips! I also think if we search some booktube events that we like, we'll also be able to find some adult fiction booktubers we like. I found *MCS-Books* during Femmeuary (well, he found my channel first lol), and now he is now one of my fave booktubers. Other example would be if you love mystery you can find a lot of people participate in the March Mystery Madness. Or if you love classics you can find people who take part in *Victober* XD

This was a great video, and there are definitely lots of great booktubers who reviews Adult fiction. I myself have a channel and I read mostly Fantasy from the in the Adult genre, but I also read the occasional MG and YA, but I'm a little more selective about those.
As for recommendations that I didn't see mentioned in the description box: I recommend Rachel from Kalandi (Sci-Fi), Shannon Ridler (SFF and classic plays such as Shakespeare), Sams Nonsense (Fantasy), James Chatham (Fantasy and Sci-Fi), and probably a lot more that I forgot to mention here.
I'll go and check the ones you mentioned that I haven't known about before.

Thank you for doing this. The recommendation to look for specific reviews was one that hadn't occurred to me, but it's a very good idea. I'll also look through the links in the descriptions and the rest of the comments to this video.

Thank you for making this video! It's easy to get stuck in a YA rut on Booktube. One of the ways I've been finding new people is to search for videos on literary prizes, for example the women's prize longlist was just announced so lots of booktubers might make reaction videos. This might skew more towards literary fiction though.

Great video!! You are right, it's usually the people who don't put in the actual effort to look for their audience of choice. I love watching all types of Booktubers and it rocks because I have heard about so many books that I normally would not have picked up.
I also love Lisa - Books & Smiles and Sarah - Sarah's Nightstand. The both read a ton of everything, I personally enjoy their thriller/mystery talks.
I haven't ventured into "reviews" too much because I just ramble and it turns into a hot mess. But I love to read thriller/mystery, fantasy, dark fairy tale re-tellings, and middle grade!

Some of my favorite booktubers besides you are RinceyReads, The Poptimist, and Claire Reads Books.
What I do after reading a book is search the book title and add ‘book review’ like you mentioned. As I grew older my taste in books changed so I mainly like seeing reviews of adult fiction and nonfiction. There are rare times where I read a YA book and I still go through the same search process. I click on the ones I know they’ll have an actual review and not just give me a synopsis feeling like it’s an advertisement 😂

I am brandnew to booktube so I'm still developing content. I plan having a variety. I have quite a few classics on my TBR however this next month I'm taking it easy with som YA's and books that have recently become movies.

I feel like it's never going to not be awkward to do this but HELLO EVERYONE I'm Kate and I make BookTube videos primarily about adult fiction - everywhere from translated fiction to thrillers to general literary fiction. I do read some YA here and there as a warning, but I guess I'm most well known on the internet for my videos about Haruki Murakami - book reviews, discussion and "Where to Start." My favorite genres are usually Magical Realism and Translated fiction that I feature pretty heavily on my channel. Please don't be turned away by any kpop/college videos lol they're put up pretty sporatically since I'm mostly a BookTuber 😊😊 I post at least once a week but usually more than that and I'm ALWAYS in the comments sections of my videos and on twitter chatting with people!

Sometimes you have to make what you want to see... to find more of what you want to see! :) And since a shameless plug is permitted, I'm an adult booktuber who reads pretty much everything... I'm an omnivore! I'm known for my Project Poirot & my book discussions.

I'd like to recommend Steve Donoghue. He reads an insane amount of books (mainly historical non-fiction, but also literary fiction, thriller and on occasion romance and comics) and his mail hauls are always a sight. He also has a very cute puppy named frieda. In case you nees more reason to check him out. 😊

    Great video!

The problem with 'adult' BookTube channels is that they tend to have more of a niche focus. There are simply a larger number and more kinds of 'adult' book. Whether it's someone dedicated to a sub-genre like sci-fi or horror, or someone who focuses on classics, or even some channels focussing on history books or Christian theology books, for example. YA, in contrast - and I hope I am not generalising too much - is a community with less breadth of content where one might focus, which makes 'YA' readers a more homogenous community. Also I would say TH-cam - like social media - in general is utilised by younger audiences, so that explains why YA is the most popular 'genre'.
Such a great list! The channel that I miss in your list and which got me into BookTube is StrippedCoverLit. Adrian makes videos about a variety of topics, from literary fiction/classics to poetry.
And of course I will recommend people check my channel out. I mainly focus on poetry and classic literature ;)

I read YA mostly and I think it might be because characters are similar across different YA books. At the very least their age has to be similar. That's why I think people complain about tropes all the time...yet keep reading YA. (That really annoys me.)

I love this video! I'm relatively new to booktube. At first, I felt like I shouldn't bother making my own channel because (1) I'm older than most of the booktubers who review YA; and (2) I don't really read that much YA. Then, I started watching booktubers who read adult fiction--you and Bree Hill were my first. Seeing your great content, and watching other channels who cover adult books, has made me feel like making a channel may be worth it.

I’m currently looking for non-fiction and harder sci-fi books which I do expect to take at least a few days. In part to see about starting my own channel.
    Thanks for these tips.

I like Matthew Sciarappa for literary fiction, Courtagonist for cozy mysteries, Elliot Brooks and Frankie Reads for Sci-Fi/Fantasy, The Novel Lush for urban/paranormal, and Books Like Whoa for mysteries and bit of everything else. My own channel is a mix of YA and adult if anyone is interested. I focus heavily on Sci-Fi/Fantasy and diverse authors, but I also read a bit of everything else- romance, thrillers, literary fiction, some graphic novels, etc.

I love this video! Thank you so much for the recommendations! It's really cool that you're giving other channels shoutouts.
Other channels I would recommend are:
    -Kate Pfeil (adult fiction)
    -Wolfshot Publishing (horror/fantasy)
    -Elliot Brooks (fantasy)
    -Chareads (classics/adult fiction)

Fantastic list! I love most of the booktubers you’ve mentioned here (Olive and Rincey particularly) and will be checking out the others. One I would definitely add is Jennifer from Insert Literary Pun Here. Jennifer is probably the smartest booktuber I’ve come across, expresses her thoughts eloquently, and goes into detail about WHY she likes or doesn’t like a book. I’m still a relative booktube newbie, but try to post weekly about mostly adult fiction, be it literary, contemporary, or genre, and will be including non fiction in the future too. But, I have mentioned YA books, and will probably add middle grade to the mix too. Just books, no particular niche :)

Thank you for this. Majority of the book tubers I follow are mail into YA or children's book. But I have been able to find a few who like the same genres as me; I also would love to get into more adult books :)

I recently saw a tweet about this exact topic and was floored because (while I admit, it’s much easier to find YA booktube channels) I’ve found so many booktubers that I love who focus on adult novels! I’m kind of a mix of the two, but as I’ve been growing increasingly interested in adult books the past year I’ve found myself talking more and more about them. My favorite “adult” booktuber lately is definitely Jennifer from Insert Literary Pun Here. She reads such a wide breadth of genres, but focuses a lot on women authors and books nominated for literary prizes.

Awesome list! I just started my channel about a month ago, so I only have two reviews on my channel right now, and one is YA (I like to be well-rounded), but I do focus on reading adult books. I read primarily literary fiction, contemporary, and adult fantasy. I occasionally do read YA for quick reads and to stay current on what's new, but I'd say I'm 85%+ adult fiction.

Thank you for this,I live in middle of nowhere in Queensland, Australia - no book shops in sight so I love watching book hauls/reviews on you tube as this gives me ideas for books to order online. I like some new adult books but don’t want ya to be all I buy.

Thanks for the tips :) As a woman over 50 I am frustrated with always landing on YA book channels. I want to hear reviews on long established authors, including books 30-40 years old, like Peter Benchley, Mario Puzo, VC Andrews, Danielle Steele, Judith Michael, Stephen King, John Saul, etc... I have looked several times, but I guess I've been giving up too soon.
